and good morning to you all. we begin with that breaking news from vienna. a landmark deal to limit iran's nuclear program has been reached. >> overnight meetings were the final phase of 20 months of high level negotiations. abc's bazi kanani has been watching the historic news unfold overnight. >> reporter: tense talks now stretching into another day. diplomats say after more than two weeks in vienna pushing past several deadlines the negotiators from iran and six world powers are finally there. iran's foreign minister exhausted but smiling as he answered reporters from his balcony. he is pushing for iran to have no more crippleing sanctions and for the right to develop peaceful nuclear programs. the u.s. wants sanctions on iran lifted gradually, strict nuclear inspections for at least ten years. iran essentially on probation.

diplomats say a deal will include a compromise giving nuclear inspectors access to iranian military sites with notice. they say whether to lift a u.n. arms embargo on iran is not decided. a group of american protesters expressed september schism voiced by republican leaders back in washington who fear the agreement will not be strict enough. this morning, on the cusp of a landmark deal with iran the white house says u.s. negotiators will push on. >> if it's necessary for them to continue conversations and if the conversations remain useful the negotiating team will remain in vienna. >> reporter: now any deal struck in vienna would need approval by officials in iran and other countries at the talks. ear here in the u.s. congress will have 60 days to review the agreement. t.j. reena. >> lots of people watching what congress will do. bazi kanani thanks so much. we'll have much more on this

historic morning later on "good morning america." well there's also breaking news at home. punishing storms turns deadly overnight. >> the powerful system moving from the ohio valley towards the east coast and the eastern great lakes also in the crosshairs as we speak. flash flooding in eastern kentucky has already claimed at least one life. as many as 11 people including a couple of children are missing. the man died when he got out of his stalled car on a roadway. the raging creeks also swept away cars and small structures. dozens of homes and buildings damaged including a number of mobile homes. >> it brought one tornado to central kansas. one or two homes were destroyed. others damaged. winds as high as 75 miles an hour reported. knocking down trees and power lines. the storm also dumped hail and much as 3 inches of rain on the region. >> more on today's storms tracking that for us justin povick. good morning to you, justin. >> t.j. and reena, thanks. good morning to you. we are tracking another complex of dangerous thunderstorms on

"el chapo" guzman on the run since saturday after escaping through an underground tunnel. three prison system officials including the director of the maximum security prison have been fired in connection with the escape. well after nearly three months of testimony closing arguments set to begin in the colorado movie theater shooting. the jury must decide if james holmes was legally insane when he opened fire at a midnight premiere killing 12 people and injuring 70 others. prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. if holmes is found not guilty by reason of insanity he would be committed indefinitely to a mental hospital frnts in a settlement in the death of a black man placed in a choke hold by a white new york city police officer. new york city has agreed to pay the family of eric garner $6 million. a jury declined to indict the officer who was trying to arrest him for selling loose grettas. garner saying i can't breathe 11 times before losing consciousness. it sparked nationwide protest and renewed the debate about

relations between police and minority communities. transgender members of the military will start serving openly next year. ash carter calls the current rues outdated and says the most important requirement for service members is whether they're willing and able to do their jobs. it's estimated that there are about 15,000 transgendered military service members. a major change could soon be coming to the boy scouts. the scouts executive committee voted unanimously to lift the ban on gay scout leaders. it will become official policy if ratified but the organization's 80-member national executive board will decide at the end of the month. several scout groups are already accepting gay leaders. a nasa spacecraft is making an historic flyby of absolute to this morning. this is what nasa thinks it might look like when it zooms by 8 8,000 miles above the planet. it endured a 3 billion-mile 9 1/2-year journey, 13 hours

prime service only on wednesday, though so walmart is countering with its own counts pointing out you don't need a subscription to do theirs. well there's a huge recall of frozen chicken products 1.7 million pounds barber foods. it recalled chicken tenders and stuffed chicken breast made over a three-month period. six have gotten sick. 50 cent might be down to his last 50 cents. he shocked his fans by filing for bankruptcies after "forbes" named him one of the wealthiest stars. just last week a jury ordered him to pay $5 million to a woman who accused him of posting her sex tape online. a chapter 11 filing will put now those proceedings on hold.
