tree limb a lot of folks without all that power and it's hot too in a lot of these places. almost 400 severe storm reports in just the last 24 hours and this morning we even have flash flooding happening in philadelphia. overnight, lightning striking and transformers blowing from georgia to tennessee. and now an overhead look at the flooding catastrophe in johnson county kentucky racing floodwaters ripped homes from their foundation and swept them away. >> oh my god. >> reporter: you can see what's left. homes carried downriver, gutted. cars tossed. today, they will again search for the six missing people. almost 400 severe storm reports including this tornado in central tennessee. >> it's a nightmare. >> reporter: and up in western new york. >> everything is underwater. >> reporter: this was a street. now a channel of swift water

ripping through this neighborhood. >> i can just hear somebody screaming. >> reporter: this woman getting caught up in rushing waters. rescuers getting to her just in time. >> she probably would have gone under water. >> reporter: she's recovering this minor injuries. >> she was scared to death. >> the flash flood warning in eastern pennsylvania but also just south of lexington, kentucky also just south of indianapolis. now, where will the severe weather be today? there are three pockets we have to watch for along that same cold front that has such a history of damaging wind and certainly the isolated tornado, you go from parts of georgia back into south carolina even a little bit of north carolina and then too back in the northern plain, grand island bismarck all have to be on alert. so much more coming up george. >> thank you, ginger. the latest on that boston police captain's son arrested for plotting a terror attack on u.s. soil. the isis loyalist in court tuesday held without bail and for the first time we hear from him as interrogation tapes are played in court and brian ross

here with the story. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning, the interrogation tape reveals a young man completely committed to isis defending executions and prepared to take actions on its behalf. because of power of what alexander ciccolo said on the tape, the fbi blacked out his face for fear it could be used by isis as propaganda. this was 23-year-old alexander ciccolo hours after being arrested by the fbi on july 4th as a suspected terrorist. >> in your mind is all the united states an enemy? >> yes. >> and every person. >> yes, it's unjust. >> reporter: for the first time on a tape played in court one of the young americans accused of plotting to attack america on behalf of isis defending isis and its gruesome executions. >> people that you see being executed are criminals. they're criminals. they're the lowest of the low. >> reporter: the fbi says ciccolo wanted to pull off a

massacre worse than the boston marathon bombing where his own father boston police captain robert ciccolo was on the scene. it was kappes ciccolo who first alerted federal agents that his son had gone off the deep end. >> the group that calls itself isis or isil, they're doing a good thing? >> yeah, yeah, they are. they're doing a good thing. >> reporter: what part of what they're doing is good? like what's good? >> they're implementing the sharia they're freeing people from oppression. >> reporter: according to the fbi, ciccolo plotted to attack a major college campus and a nearby gay bar with pressure cooker bombs like the ones used in the boston marathon attack. and then the fbi says he planned to execute non-muslim students and broadcast it live on the internet. >> now, the islamic state come in with guns. they don't come in peacefully. they come in with knives and

take people's heads off. >> they kill enemies. they kilo pressers. you understand. >> reporter: after watching that tape a federal judge ordered ciccolo held without bail calling him a danger to the community. while some members of his family were present in the court, his father the police captain who first tipped off the fbi about him was not there. amy. >> all right, brian, thank you for the latest details on that. to the fallout from that nuclear deal with iran. there were celebrations on the streets of tehran. people there welcoming the historic agreement. the reaction back here at home mixed. republicans vowing to fight the deal in congress and abc's martha raddatz is in tehran with the very latest. >> reporter: secretary of state john kerry arrived back in the u.s. overnight after weeks of marathon negotiations ending with that historic deal but it is clear his work is not over. despite the excitement about the agreement here in tehran. fervent reactions to the nuclear deal resonating around the

world. on the streets of tehran those who suffered under sanctions for years danced overnight in celebration. but in israel, prime minister benjamin netanyahu was the deal's biggest critic calling it a mistake of historic proportions. >> the world is a much more dangerous place today than it was yesterday. >> reporter: house speaker john boehner spoke out against the deal threatening to halt it. >> going to hand a dangerous regime billions of dollars in sanctions relief while paving a way for a nuclear iran, if, in fact it's as bad a deal as i think it is we'll do everything to stop it. >> reporter: now house speaker and congress have 60 days to review it and accept or reject it but president obama has threatened to veto a congressional rejection telling "the new york times" -- >> this by a wide margin is the

most definitive path by which iran will not get a nuclear weapon. >> reporter: and secretary of state john kerry argued that there is no great alternative to the deal. >> the alternative is to what go to war immediately, bomb them sanction them further? well wait no you can't sanction them further. >> reporter: but president obama acknowledged in his interview with "the new york times" that some of the money that iran receives from sanctions relief could be used to sponsor terrorism against its enemies in the region. the president saying we will have to systemically guard against that. george. >> okay martha thanks. the president will continue to push this today at 1 p.m. press conference. the race for the white house. your voice, your vote. new poll for "usa today" shows trump leading the way. for now it's fueling his rise. >> reporter: his comments controversial, offensive.

he's been attacked by democrats and republicans. but his popularity has actually gone up. take a look at the latest abc news/"washington post" poll. back in may just 16% viewed him favorably. that number is now doubled 33% saying they view donald trump favorably. it's a remarkable increase george but trump remains the most divisive person in this race democrat or republican, by far. look at this. 61% even in that poll say they view him unfavorably, the largest unfavorable rating by far of any of the candidates. >> which may explain why jeb bush has decided to take him on full bore. >> reporter: he sure has. bush was in iowa yesterday and he went right at donald trump over those immigration comments. >> mr. trump has every right to have every belief he has. he's going to run, that's fine but i don't want to be associated with the kind of vitriol that he's spewing out these days. >> reporter: the bottom line here george is that

republicans used to think they could ignore donald trump. but now as you see with jeb bush they clearly no longer think that and go right at him. >> first debate coming up in a couple weeks. thanks very much. now to that massive manhunt for one of the world's most dangerous drug lords. a nearly $4 million reward being offered for el chapo and this morning new video from the moment he slipped out of his cell and getting our first look inside that mile-long tunnel he escaped through. abc's gio benitez is in mexico. good morning, gio. >> reporter: amy, good morning to you. three prison officials have already lost their jobs over this escape and this morning now for the first time we're seeing the most revealing video yet. this morning, new eye-opening surveillance videos capturing the crucial moments before joaquin "el chapo" guzman escapes from that maximum security prison. watch as he paces back and forth before taking off the tracking bracelet monitoring his every move. he walks to his shower area ducks behind the wall bends down and vanishes.

el chapo sporting a full head of hair and a mustache successfully dodging two surveillance cameras, one mounted outside his cell's entrance the other a close circuit lens inside. mexican officials conceding the dangerous and infamous drug lord exploited that obvious blind spot. his shower stall deliberately set up to protect the inmate's privacy and something else look there even appears to be an electronic device maybe an ipad or iphone next to his bed. all right. we're inside the el chapo tunnel. now for the first time we're personally seeing up close the inside of that tunnel. but as you can see, you've got electricity in here. he had lights that would have led all the way down through that tunnel powered by this generator here. mexican government taking abc through the now notorious tunnel running nearly a full mile underground from the shower in his cell to a half built house used to hide an estimated 379

truckloads of dirt pulled out of the ground to make that tunnel. you can see there's an electric pulley system to pull things out and another hole 30 feet deep that officials say leads right to a deeper part of that tunnel. look closely. you can see rails. authorities finding this modified motorcycle down below, as well. this must have been in the works for a long time. inside the underground chamber we walk up the stairs he would have used to escape. and here it is. this is the house where he just walked into and disappeared. el chapo's responsible for about a quarter of the drugs in the u.s. up to 60% of the drugs in chicago alone. so this morning chicago has once again named el chapo public enemy number one, george. >> i'll bet they have. gio, thanks very much. to a frightening skywest flight causing major change for the airline. the faa imposed unusual restricts on the carrier after

one of its planes fell 12,000 feet during an april flight. the airline now ordered to fly at lower altitudes and david kerley covering the story from reagan national airport. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, george. this really is a highly unusual move by the government really placing a limit on how high an airline can fly its planes because one of them started falling out of the sky. it happened back in april, a skywest united express flight from denver to oklahoma city it was at 39,000 feet when the pilot stalled the aircraft. it started falling out of the sky. 12,000 feet before they regained control. now, flying at altitude the air is a little thinner and the margin of error for pilots is much smaller and you can get into a stall quicker. now you probably heard of skywest, they fly for some of the major airlines flights for united american delta, us airways and alaska airlines. skywest itself is rejecting the faa's statement and is calling this just a slow speed event and it says that the altitude cap

for three types of its aircraft they call that a head scratcher. despite that skywest says it is using this incident to provide additional training to its pilots so george this morning three types of aircraft for skywest can only go so high. >> david kerley thanks very much. to paula faris with today's other top stories starting with a war crime conviction from world war ii. >> good morning. the guilty verdict came in from germany for the man known as the bookkeeper of auschwitz. oscar groene convicted on 3,000 counts of accessory to murder and sentenced to four years in prison. back in 1944 he was in charge of collecting money stolen from jews before they were killed. and deliberations get under way this morning in the colorado movie massacre trial after nearly three months and more than 250 witnesses, the jury must decide whether james holmes was insane when he opened fire at that "batman" premiere killing 12 people. and terrifying moments for a

florida police officer run down by a car. look at this. it happened in orlando. the officer approaches the driver with his gun drawn then the passenger runs away. as the officer moves in that direction, the driver is going to slam into him. there's the passenger running out. the driver will then slam into him flipping him over the hood right there, shots fired. the officer managed to fire off three shots. he is okay. that passenger, however, is still on the run. a scare along a freeway in southern california. what started as a car fire exploded then spread into the hillside. the flames so intense, three lanes of traffic had to be shut down. however, no injuries were reported. and former cincinnati reds great pete rose received a standing ovation at last night's all-star game in cincinnati being honored as one of the reds best i have players. rose of course banned from baseball for gambling. he is waiting to discuss his possible reinstatement. you could hear everyone chanting

encounter with what so many of us grew up thinking was our ninth planet. abc's t.j. holmes is here with more on it. good morning t.j. >> pluto is getting a bit of how do you like me now moment. here's the first glimpse this morning at a part of the universe that has captured imaginations since its discovery 85 years ago. nasa's new horizons spacecraft sent back these first ever images of pluto's surface. humanity's first glimpse of the former ninth planet farthest from the moon and subject to endless curiosity. the discovery part of a space odyssey that's taken nine years and over 3 billion miles. the new horizons vessel traveled 31,000 miles per hour as it cruised 6,000 miles away from the surface. pluto was downgraded to a dwarf planet back in 2006 but turns out little pluto is bigger than anyone thought. this mission proving it's almost 1500 miles across. >> all: three, two, one.

a california couple vindicated. denise huskins and investigators believe the suspect has committed this crime before. abc's cecilia vega is tracking the case from vallejo, california. good morning, cecilia. >> reporter: hey, george good morning to you. just when you think the story couldn't get stranger it does. could this alleged kidnapper behind other break-ins. they're looking into similar cases with the same m.o. masked attackers terrifying their victims. this morning investigators say the alleged mastermind behind a bizarre northern california kidnapping plot could have even more victims. >> we were happy to hear that the name had surfaced again. >> reporter: 38-year-old matthew muller behind bars accused of breaking into this vallejo home in march and abducting denise huskins as she and her boyfriend aaron quinn slept. muller is now suspected also in a 2009 home invasion in palo alto. police calling them eerily

similar. >> he restrained her, blindfolded her and threatened to rob her and sexually assault her. >> reporter: police doubted the story. many saying it resembled the blockbuster "gone girl." >> i feel like i could disappear. >> reporter: now this morning yet another bizarre turn. according to court documents the whole thing may have been a case of mistaken identity. the fbi says huskins' abductor told her they were looking for quinn's ex-fiancee saying they target someone for money. among the items investigators say they found in a storage unit linked to muller duct tape wireless video cameras and drones. shortly after huskins released the kidnappers e-mailing this photo to the san francisco chronicle claiming this is the bed where she was held. the abductors not only taking credit for the disappearance, but expressing remorse writing we are deeply ashamed and regretful of our unforgivable conduct. muller's attorney says his client will plead not guilty and

that he suffers from bipolar disorder. >> the mental illness he has suffered is something that's debilitating and has really degraded his entire life. >> reporter: vallejo police called this case a hoax. this morning they are still not apologizing. does the vallejo police department owe this couple an apology? >> we'll evaluate that when the investigation is complete and go from there. >> reporter: did you drop the ball. >> i don't believe so no. >> reporter: yeah police here still standing by those comments from four months ago that this whole thing was a waste of valuable city resources. that captain telling me george it is all under investigation this morning. >> okay cecilia, thanks very much. let's talk to dan abrams about this. still scratching my head. >> it's unbelievable. it's unbelievable that now you read through this 59-page arrest warrant that comes from the fbi. it's an unbelievable page turner every page you go through and say no way and then this happened and then this happened. they were able to link this back to him because he allegedly

tried to do this to somebody else. he leaves his cell phone there. they're able to link the cell phone back to him. they then of course get a search warrant, they find what was apparently the stolen computer from these two victims' homes and now the fbi are clearly saying looks, we've got all this evidence that links it back so why are they still saying -- >> that's my question. how could the police get it so wrong in the first place and what could possibly be served by them digging in now? >> you know look i think that they're embarrassed and, look here's their position. their position is there were inconsistencies in their stories, that the victims' stories were not consistent as they talked to them about what happened. okay maybe they weren't. but if what i read in that arrest warrant is true i don't see how the police department -- remember that's an fbi arrest warrant and now talking about a separate local police department who is saying we are not conceding that we got it wrong. >> i spoke to the couple's

lawyer yesterday. how vulnerable is the police department now to a lawsuit? >> police departments get things wrong and just because they get things wrong doesn't mean they can get successfully sued. what's different here are the public statements that they made. and as a result that does make them more vulnerable to possibly lawsuits but sounds like they're ready to fight it. >> dan abrams thanks very much. all right, guy, thanks very much. new details on that incredible survival story in washington state. the teenage girl who walked away from a small plane crash and out of the wilderness. two days later she is back home and we are hearing from her for the first time on that 911 call from after she was found. abc's ryan owens has the story. >> reporter: autumn veatch is wake up in her own bed after spending one night in the hospital. a remarkable recovery complete with the 16-year-old's favorite food chicken nuggets. and a front row seat to news coverage of her almost unbelievable survival story.

>> we crashed and i was the only one that made it out. >> reporter: this morning we're hearing autumn's voice for the first time as she tells a 911 operator how she lived through a plane crash that killed her stepgrandparents. >> i have a lot of burns on my hands and i'm like kind of covered in bruises and scratches and stuff. >> reporter: the crash happened saturday afternoon as the three were flying from montana to washington state. investigators say the small plane hit bad weather and slammed into the side of a mountain. the sheriff says the teen stayed with the plane's wreckage that first night but with no sign of help she started hiking down the mountain following a creek that led to a river. she slept that second night on a sandbar in the water. on monday she kept walking the river until she finally found a road and flagged down a car. >> she's amazing. she's remarkable. she really had the courage and will to continue on.

>> reporter: autumn's father says she learned how to navigate this rugged terrain. >> let's go. >> yeah. >> reporter: by watching survival shows on tv. the host of "naked and afraid" on discovery says he's impressed with the teen. >> this girl made the right decision. head downstream. because downstream is where civilization is going to be. >> reporter: life-saving lessons that brought a teenager home at long last. for "good morning america," ryan owens, abc news, brewster, washington. >> remarkable. >> it sure is, boy. >> thanks to ryan for that. storms in the southwest bringing down trees and causing so much of that flash flooding we've been talking >> right monsoon is on and you can see the damage in some places like phoenix arizona and the video we have just there -- see that flash flooding across street someone trying to make it through and they are beyond lucky. if it was an inch or two higherly they would not a foot to 2 feet can knock a car right off. warm moisture going to be feeding in from delores. that will take a track and weaken.

behind a car, rock or building where the water is calm and then defensive swimming feet up floating on your back when you need to rest but now i'm on my own. without an inflated life vest. about to get real. i try aggressive swimming. >> close to the eddy. >> reporter: i do it a couple of times. i never realized how hard it is to swim fully clothed clinging to floating debris like this cooler may be the rest you need but to simulate the most dangerous floods we head to whitewater. so we have camera here camera here gopros on and kayakers rescuers and a camera 900 feet up on that bridge. this time it's all about defensive swimming. keeping my feet up so i don't get dragged under. the goal just making it out. it was like being in a giant

hurricane-force winds. lightning blew up transformers across the south. tornadoes tore apart homes and snapped trees in tennessee and in western new york some areas were swamped by up to 2 inches of rain per hour. this is the result of the severe flooding that washed away homes in kentucky six people are missing and we're going to have ginger's forecast straight ahead. president obama will be making his case for the nuclear agreement with iran at a news conference later this afternoon. congressional republicans are slamming this deal. some calling it unacceptable. the president says he will veto any effort to derail the deal. opponents however need a two-thirds majority in congress to override that presidential veto. new video showing the moment the mexican drug lord known as el chapo escaped from prison. see him pacing in his cell right here. he takes off his electric monitoring bracelet and ducks behind the wall of his shower never to be seen again. it led to this mile-long tunnel ventilated and discussion tom built for el chapo's 5'6" frame.

this next story perhaps every parent's worst nightmare. leaving your baby at day care and then returning a few hours later to find your child has mysteriously died. that's what happened to one family here in new york. abc's mara schiavocampo has details. >> reporter: this morning, an unlicensed new york city day care being investigated after an infant died suddenly on his very first day under their care. 3-month-old karl towndro found unresponsive 15 minutes after being put down for his midday nap. >> parents are distraught. a little bit in shock and trying to get a handle on what what happened. >> reporter: according to police mary ellen astronautman called 911. dispatchers talking her through the steps of cpr until first responders arrived. the cause of death is still unknown. now the owner is being questioned by police and the center has been shut down. highlighting a danger to parents

everywhere. the exact number of unlicensed child care providers nationally is unknown. but they aren't subject to basic training requirements and background checks and could be putting children at risk. one study finding children at un-lanced facilities in virginia are five times more likely to die of physical abuse, neglect or even sudden unexplained infant death than children in state regulated homes. for "good morning america," mara schiavocampo abc news new york. so tragic. our thoughts and prayers go out to that family. a passing to note. a member of our abc family. marlene sanders was a pioneer in the industry. in 1964 she became the first woman to anchor a nightly newscast. she reported from vietnam in 1966 became the first female vice president of a news division. sanders was 84 years old. and finally, some bridesmaids going the extra mile to get where they needed to be with their thumb. here they are hitchhiking after

>> ♪♪ >> good morning. sky6 taking a live look at the ben franklin bridge. strong storms moved through the region and this morning and they're still hitting parts of south jersey right now. let's go to meteorologist karen rogers in for david. >> we have flash flood warnings because of that and also in northampton and monroe counties and cutting through the heart of o your region until 9:15. storm tracker6 live double scan showing us that we have now 400 you 426 lightning strikes. it's picking up in norristown phoenixville along 422 and media. in philadelphia see that area of yellow headed right towards the city because it's moving up to the northwest. you'll be getting that as well. in south jersey that's where

we have the most lightning strikes and the most active pattern. not seeing a lot of redevelopment to the west. i think as this pushes off the coast it's going to show some improvement for us. here's a quick look at your forecast. a high of 85, warm and humid. we're dealing with the thunderstorms early on and then it's going to ease up a little bit. a chance of a downpour at any time this evening. >> let's turn to matt pelman looking out for flash flash flooding out there. >> definitely some puddles. a vehicle fire less than an hour ago on the schuylkill expressway eastbound side by the boulevard. a lot of flames but the fire crews extinguished the fire. they towed away the vehicle that used to be on fire. now gone. eastbound though still heavy from the conshohocken curve on in. westbound even slower, 41 minutes with volume and you want to avoid the westbound pennsylvania turnpike basically solid from delaware valley the whole way out to mid-county way crash in the mix. bensalem taking out a lane. a crash on the northeast extension is now off to the side.

rain and lightning strikes. karen rogers is in. >> storm tracker6 live radar we can see the heaviest rain is pushing off the coast. starting to see the barkeep of some of the intense rain right now. i want you to take a closer look as we go into the area of philadelphia and you can see up close that we've got still some heavy rain moving through the area. you see that by the area of yellow so right now in philadelphia you've got some good downpours hitting you although the real lightning and activity is farther down to the south and pushing off the coastline. 335 lightning strikes right here alone the national weather service has added atlantic ocean and burlington counties to the flash flood warnings that we have already existing until 12:45. matt you never want to 35 through the flooded waters. >> karen thanks. let's go to matt pelman for a look at those roads. >> we had high water on some of the area highways this morning matt and we had a crash as well here on 202 northbound side in frazier cleared off to the side and the work zone. extra heavy from boot towed 401. crash on the pennsylvania
