search for these thieves who are taking people's value want in their presence. >> "action news" reporter chad pradelli live outsite upper merion police. chad you have the details. >> reporter: this pickpocket crew has been hitting this area since january but increasing frequency. now investigators want to put a stop to them and want you to take a close look at the suspects allegedly involved. this is surveillance video of an attempted theft inside wegmans earlier this month. the shopper in the bottom right is being engaged in conversation by one of the suspects. police say her partner is on the far left. soon he gets a signal and goes in. but as he goes to grab the wallet out of the purse, the shopper turns around and he pulls away. >> if you have your purse keep it zipped up snapped secured. >> reporter: upper merion police say a group of at least eight has been targeting shoppers in the king of prussia and tredyffrin areas over the past six months. upper merion has 20's cases in that time span, 10 in the last

two months. last week the thieves stole several wallets at gateway shopping center. once they get the wallet they go to work charging. >> a lot of times they'll try to get high end electronics if the cards will go through if they can make those purchases. often they'll just get gift cards and they're easy to sell on the street, repurpose them. >> i never thought about it. i just feel like this is a safe area and i just never imagined someone is going to do that here. >> reporter: police say always be aware of your surroundings place your purse between your feet, if possible and never place it on the back of a chair: do you ever hang it on the back of a chair. >> if i'm in a restaurant i do but that's an indoor restaurant. >> reporter: how do you keep an eye on it if it's behind you. >> i don't. >> they say that's one of the number one waze to get your wallet. >> yeah, i would believe that, yes. >> reporter: and police also recommend on the back of your credit cards do not sign your name but rather, put see identification or see i.d. i'm live in upper merion

township, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> all right, chad thanks very much. police sources are telling us tonight that a recent drexel graduate found murdered in her west philadelphia apartment may have known her killer. 27-year-old jasmine wright was discovered yesterday. police say it appeared she had been strangled and suffocated. officials think she was dead for nearly a day before she was found by the property manager. david henry explains what is missing from the crime scene that police think is a sign wright let her killer in voluntarily coming up at 6 o'clock tonight. >> a man was arrested this afternoon by darby police for a second attempted abduction. detectives think isaac dougba approached a 10-year-old girl last night and asked her if she wanted to get in his van much the little girl will be on her way to the store walking along darby terrace but she ran home crying and told her mom who called 911. dougba was identified as the suspect in a similar abduction attempt on july 9th. >> we are learning more this evening about the four marines shot and killed in yesterday's

shooting spree in tennessee. the marines identified the four victims this afternoon. gunnery sergeant to my nas j sullivan staff sergeant david wyatt. is that right sergeant holmquist and skip wells. all four marines were taken to dover air base. in the meantime investigators are investigating if the case was a case of domestic terrorism. >> we will continue to investigate it as an act of terrorism until the proof shows us otherwise. >> now police have zeroed in on this man, mohammod youssuf abdulazeez. his motive for the attack is still unclear. world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the investigation into abdulazeez and the crime spree tonight at 6:30 right after "action news" at 6:00. >> turning to the forecast temperatures are going to heat up this week and by sunday the conditions could actually be dangerous. let's go outside to get the details from meteorologist adam joseph and accuweather.

>> yeah, monica we've had a last break the last 48 hours from that intense heat, humidity and storms but as we get into the weekend it will be the hottest it's felt this entire year. in fact we take a look at the numbers right now. not bad. 78 in reading, 80 in millville. with the winds off the water at the shore not bad 78 degrees with the ocean of 74. as we look at double scan live radar all of the showers right now are to our north but there's a warm front just east of pittsburgh and west of washington. that's going to be migrating through later on tonight early tomorrow morning and that is going to throw that intense humidity back in and also will spark a couple of showers, downpours and thunderstorms. but the phillies are back in town after being absent for a week or so. the all-star games. hopefully the second half of the season they can turn things around against the marlins. clouds will be thickening up it will be turning muggy 80 degrees for your first pitch. by the ninth inning 75 degrees. over the next 24 hours, turns

jersey farms. vandals there are treating some fields as their personal palate using their cars to spin up designs that damage the turf beyond repair and that's got the farmers losing money and patience. nora muchanic explains. >> just makes your stomach turn. >> reporter: sod farmers and cousins phil and games bets of tuckahoe turf farm are frustrated. vandals tore through patches of lush green grass leaving tire tracks deep looping grooves and up to $3,000 worth of damage. >> lot of money, a the lot of time to repair it and our end product isn't as good. >> we are not sure if it will be harvestable. >> reporter: tuckahoe provides turf for baseball soccer throughout the east including citizens bank park. this isn't new for tuckahoe

turf or other sod farmers in the area. this farm backs up to the wharton state forest and there are often people in trucks and atv's coming onto the property to joyride. >> they ride down the edges of the roads and then decide to come out onto the grass and spin out and do doughnuts. why i don't know. it's our livelihood. >> reporter: tuckahoe farms posted pictures of the damage on facebook. they have been shared almost 2,000 times. >> we actually got some leads so hopefully we'll be able to catch this person that did this. >> reporter: home mon ton police say they are actively working the case and the bets family is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest. when they are caught james and phil say they intend to press charges hoping it will put a stop to this ongoing problem. in hammonton i'm nora muchanic, channel6 "action news." >> time for a check of that action new traffic report friday night. >> all right, autumn marisa in for matt pelman tonight in the "action news" traffic center. how are we looking. >> hi, brian and monica. very slow out there as you can imagine a lot of people looking forward to the week.

we did have an accident in the left-hand lane of the westbound lane of schuylkill right here. it's been pushed off to the side of the road. you can see police arriving at the scene right now but that traffic is beginning to move again. we are still seeing major delays on the schuylkill. you can see 44 minutes from the blue route down to the vine and almost an hour to go from the vine up to the blue route right now. taking a look at the speeds across the region, again out on 202, king of prussia 11 miles per hour. as you're making your way on 95 southbound towards delaware about 10 miles per hour. so very slow this evening. so, you need a lot of patience outer there and especially if you're heading down to the shore right now. taking a look at the 42 freeway, this is southbound right at creek road. from the walt whitman bridge down to the atlantic city expressway it's taking you about 20 minutes right now but again, very slow going. it's a great weekend and everybody wants to get where they're going. taking a look at the area bridges, starting with the walt whitman bridge -- rather with the ben franklin bridge you can see these are eastbound lanes heading over to new jersey. westbound lanes, we're down

>> the fbi is now investigating 34 reports of lasers being pointed at commercial flights on wednesday night alone. lasers of course can compromise the vision of the pilots putting the entire flight at risk. authorities have not yet determined if the incidents are connected. >> pennsylvania congressman patrick meehan wants the senate to take up a bill that would reform and expand research into life saving medical treatment. patients and advocates joined the republican today here at penn medicine in radnor where they all asked for action along with the increasing

>> ♪♪ >> apple is on track to bank largest annual profit in business history. apple is expected to rake in just under 53 billion in earnings by the end of this fiscal year in september. that is according to analysts surveyed by thomas reutters. in the final three months of

2014 apple posted its biggest quarterly profit of 18 billion. >> tuition at rutgers university is increasing for the upcoming school year. the university it's board of governors voted to raise tuition and fees by 2.3 percent. it will raise tuition fees room and board to just more than $26,000 for a new jersey resident. the board calls the increases "modest and necessary." student group though says the hikes are unjustified in light of increased revenue. bucks county students enrolled in the summer meals program had a special visitor during their lunch today. congressman mike fitzpatrick stopped by at the ywca creek side summer camp in bensalem. the camp feeds about 40 kids every day. after lunch the congressman met with leaders from area organizations. they asked him to support a bill that would expand summer nutrition programs for low income children. >> summer camp was double the fun today for some kids in north philadelphia.

youngsters is the salvation army kroc center here on wissahickon avenue shot hoops with the men's temple university basketball program. four to 14-year-olds went outside for a garden tour. they learned about fruits veggies and mother nature. a fun week at this 70 million-dollar facility. a day of fun. a block party in the overbrook section of philadelphia. the 19th police district hosted this event. there was a bounce house, a dunk tank, oops, there orgone, tons of food and some of the officers even showed off their dance moves when the music started to play. all right. got something going on there i like that. >> looked good. up next here at 5:00 we're going to check the forecast and looking outside sky6 hd, bright skies over the ben franklin bridge tonight. meteorologist adam joseph has got details from accuweather. >> a reminder when you see breaking news or severe weather we want to hi from you.

>> anything but normal around here the last two days feeling a little more september-like with the air temperatures in the 70's to near 80 and now we're going well above that over the weekend. as we're looking live on sky6 still a few folks in cape may right now on the shore with their feet in the sand. it's 5 o'clock. i think the happy hour bell rang and a lot of them have run out to grab a little drink and something to eat and also a reminder to we had dangerous rip currents today, a moderate risk so if you are at home right now, at the shore and you're thinking about going onto the sand and getting into the water probably not the best idea with the lifeguards now heading off duty. 81 on the boardwalk as well as sea isle city, 80 in millville, 82 in philadelphia. reading, lancaster and wilmington all temperatures there in the upper 70's. 90-degree day so far this year, kind of a split. we're right in the middle here. boston zero so far this year. new york city only one day has hit 90 degrees. 10 days in philadelphia. that's a little bit below the

average but we'll make up for it over the next few days but as you head to the south, it has been blistering this summer season so far from that washington richmond to raleigh where they've seen between about 22 to 26 days of 90 degrees or above. we are tracking a warm front. that warm front right now is draped just east of pittsburgh and west of washington. that's throwing clouds our way first and eventually the heat, the humidity behind that front and a chance for a few downpours and thunderstorms. in fact, at 6 o'clock tomorrow morning as the front migrating through, any one is fair game for a quick shower downpour or a rumble of thunder. the warm front lifts to the north tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. there will be hazy sunshine. clouds will fight the sky with the sunshine and there will still be those pop-ups in the afternoon but it won't be widespread around here for the beginning of the weekend and at the same time that we'll see some of those pop-ups develop, it's going the feel like 99 in philadelphia tomorrow afternoon the same for wilmington, upper 90's in the lehigh valley. a little bit of a break at the shore. you can see wildwood at 80 degrees and that number of

93 in atlantic city is in pomona at the airport which is 10 miles inland so you don't have to go far inland from the coast to see those numbers really spike up here tomorrow. here is that weekend kickoff for saturday. 90, a scattered afternoon thunderstorm at times in the city. at the shore clouds mixing with sun at 80 degrees. and in the poconos humid with an isolated storm temperatures there in the upper 70's. your five day at 5: forecast, 90 tomorrow, very humid with a scattered storm in the morning and again in the afternoon. and then dangerous heat sets in on sunday, 95 feeling like 100 to 105 and we take out the chance really of many thunderstorms here on sunday and then they come back. it's steamy, stormy monday, 92 degrees and that front will slip through here late monday and that will drop the humidity a little bit on tuesday but it stays hot at 90 degrees and another 90-degree day on wednesday with an afternoon thunderstorm so this will be another heat wave as we move

>> ♪♪ >> "action news" continues with meteorologist adam joseph, jaime apody rick williams and monica malpass. >> hello again. rick is off tonight, brian taff joins us and here's what's happening on "action news" tonight. a woman driving down a philadelphia street ends up in the hospital after being hit by a stray bullet. we have the latest on the search for the person who pulled that trigger. an out of control driver takes over a busy street in new castle delaware leaving a trail of destruction and he is accused of killing four marines during that shooting spree in tennessee. tonight, we are learning more about the accused gunman

mohammedmohammad youssefmohammod youssuf abdulazeez. >> a victim was driving in the area of 17th and susquehanna avenue in north philadelphia. the woman had no idea she had been hit until she was a few blocks away. "action news" reporter trish hartman now live outside the 22nd police district. trish you've got more on this incredible story. >> reporter: well, brian so far no suspect in this bizarre shooting that injured a 32-year-old olney woman. today police turned to surveillance video as they look for the shooter. detectives worked for hours in the businesses near the scene looking for footage that may help their investigation. they hope video from the china bull restaurant may help them identify witnesses or suspects. the owner of the e and i deli says cops were here for three hours looking at surveillance. the store's cameras were rolling when a 32-year-old woman was struck by a stray bullet inside her car. police say the woman was driving home with two female

friends from the yolo cafe when she was shot. >> only struck one time, struck in the rear trunk area. the bullet went through the rear seat and through the driver's seat and struck her in the back. >> reporter: a few blocks away at 17th and diamond she realized she was shot. the victim was taken into surgery at temple university hospital and was upgraded from critical to stable condition. her two passengers were uninjured. police say 10 bullet casings were found at the scene along with what appears to be crack cocaine. >> a lot of drugs around here. i don't know, it's very depressing very depressing. >> reporter: and no word what exactly police were able to find in that surveillance video they viewed today. again, no suspects and police are still looking for witnesses. if you saw anything last night, philadelphia police would like to hear from you. we're live in north philadelphia trish hartman channel6 "action news." brian. >> trish thanks very much. also in north philadelphia authorities are looking for the person responsible for a double shooting near north

front street and west clearfield. authorities say two men were hit during a drive by. both were wounded in the arm and taken to temple university hospital for treatment. detectives recovered several shell casings from the scene and say a bullet also went through a window of a nearby pool hall. >> authorities say a driver treated the streets of new castle like a demolition derby this morning. he is still on the run tonight. it started about 8:30 when the suspect rammed into several cars on route 13. one of the drivers who was hit spoke with "action news" right after it happened. >> driving up 13, this car come up alongside of me on my left-hand side, sideswiped the car, took the mirror off. >> the suspect eventually traveled onto route 273 and struck a minivan which overturned and hit a phone pole. the van's driver was inside and suffered minor injuries. the stolen vehicle then smashed through a fence and the driver got out and ran away. meantime also from our delaware news room state police released the name of the pedestrian now who was struck and killed last night

in newark. investigators say 42-year-old james duff of new york was trying to cross east chestnut hill road when he walked into the path of a jeep. duff was rushed to christiana hospital but doctors could not save him. the driver of the jeep was not hurt and remained at the scene. it's not clear if criminal charges will be filed. philadelphia police and the fbi are working together to catch man who robbed bank in olde city. these are pictures of the suspect in the td bank at fourth and market. authorities say he walked in about 8:00 a.m. today threatened the teller, took some cash and ran off. they think the same guy robbed the td bank on south 11th street two days ago. police do consider him armed and dangerous. >> the marines have now identified the four victims of yesterday's deadly shooting in tennessee. three of the victims gunnery sergeant to my nas j sullivan staff sergeant david wyatt and sergeant carson was active.

lance or rail skip wells corporal skip wells was a reserveist. there's an terror investigation. friends say they are shocked that the seemingly all american guy could pull off such a startling attack. abc's lana zak has more tonight. >> reporter: this leafy tree lined street outside chattanooga tennessee was home to mohammod youssuf abdulazeez abdulazeez. he was remembered as a good southern boy. >> he was just really a good guy. >> all american kid. >> reporter: so it is with disbelief they learned that the friend they knew as a jokester and a jock seen here in this youtube video is accused of killings four marines and wound throwing others in a shooting spree at two military installations yesterday. >> we're all pretty shocked. >> reporter: authorities now wondering what changed as investigators are searching for clues about what motivated

abdulazeez to act. a key question was it isis inspired. >> his communication devices are being -- they're on airplane going to washington, where they will be combed over very closely. we'll know a lot more probably in the next 12 hours. >> reporter: abdulazeez was born in kuwait but came to the u.s. when he was a toddler and it was in a sixth grade classroom that he saw the attack on the world trade center. >> when that happened it took it like an american. he didn't take it as a muslim. he didn't take it as, you know a kuwaiti he tyke as an american like all of us digit he was employed as an electrical engineering after graduating from the university of tennessee at chattanooga and his mother posting this graduation photo on facebook. authorities are actively investigating whether or not the alleged shooter acted alone. the fbi says that they have already tracked down 70 leads so far. in washington, lana zak channel6 "action news." back to you. >> and world news tonight with david muir will have the latest on the tennessee

shootings including more about that suspected gunman. you can watch that following "action news" at 6:00. >> well, new jersey has begun imminent domain proceedings for some beach front property so that dunes can be built to protect against storms. officials with the state department of environmental protection are focusing on these parcels of land in cape may and ocean counties. the filings stem from an ongoing disagreement with 244 coastal property owners who refuse to give up their land rights. governor christie signed an executive order after superstorm sandy directing the dep to obtain the easement so that dunes can be built. >> lots of folks are making their way to the shore even as we speak for this beautiful friday night. >> nice weekend to go. autumn marisa in for matt pelman. >> these vehicles making their way towards the vine street expressway wanting to get over the area bridges to get to the shore right now. those are very slow. we'll show you that in a bit.

>> my gosh. >> take a look at that tornado caught on camera in central illinois. one nearby town suffered major damage. gratefully no one was hurt. illinois' governor has activated an emergency operations stoned help the town clean up. state emergency responders are on stand by tonight in the event more help is need. two people rescued after a blast leveled a house in saint louis missouri. both of the people pulled from the rubble last night were taken to the hospital reason in critical condition right now. the explosion also burned two houses next door destroying one of them. fire officials are still trying to figure out just what happened but they say no one smelled natural gas in the area. >> an evening commute turned into a big payday for some

drivers in baltimore maryland. check it out as you can see in the picture there is cash everywhere. it flew into traffic when the back doors of an armored truck opened. police shut down the tunnel as they cleaned up the money. investigators are asking drivers who may have taken some of that dough to give it back. since the money didn't belong to them police say technically taking it is considered theft. two dads from south jersey have been charged for a bloody brawl that was caught on camera. this is the video showing michael barbella of vent none and michael duffy of mays landing beating each other up. barbella drove to the tournament to confront duffy over an ongoing dispute concerning the team on which their daughters once played together. that's a little rough. the local police cleve was disappointed but also said the man who stopped to film the fight didn't help. >> is somebody getting hurt? could i call help? could i get authorities here quickly?

dewpoints it's going to feel like 98 degrees. then on sunday, 95 degrees is the air temperature and thus far this year our highest heat index in philadelphia was 101. we're going for 104 on sunday afternoon. that is dangerous because we haven't really been acclimated to this kind of heat and humidity combination this year so far so you've got to take it easy here the second half of the week especially if you live in the highly urbanized areas around the heart of the delaware valley, anywhere in the orange where that heat index will be between 100 and 105. if you're heading to the poconos at least you're going to get it a little bit cooler, a little more comfortable. 79 tomorrow with a spotty thunderstorm around. sunday it's 86 up there very muggy but we won't have the heat indices in the 100's up in the mountains and at the shore 75 is the ocean temperature and with the sea breeze this weekend, it will also keep it equally as cool there. 80 on saturday, very humid with an isolated chance

montgomery counties and radnor police arrest five in a prostitution ring. plus the big story on "action news" tonight is new information in the murder of jasmine wright. the 27-year-old was found strangled inside her apartment near 50th and locust in west philadelphia yesterday but tonight law men say they are making progress in their efforts to find a suspect. "action news" reporter david henry is lie at police headquarters. david, we've learned more about the victim and more about the police investigation. >> reporter: that's right, jim and the medical examiner has ruled that jasmine wright was strangled but the question here remains who did it and why. and she may have been on the phone with one of her parents just before she died. >> we believe that she was on the phone with the mother or the father, one of them right before or during the incident. >> reporter: 27-year-old jasmine wright was found in the back bedroom of her third floor apartment at 50th and locust. the medical examiner says she was choked to death.

police say there were no signs of forced entry. they believe she knew her attacker. she was fully clothed and sources say she was not sexually assaulted. it appears to have been an act of rage. >> she was beaten very badly. ultimately she was strangled much that is the cause of death strangulation so it would appear that it was sort of perth but we don't know yet. >> reporter: jasmine appeared to have a bright future recently graduating with a master's degree from drexel in environmental and occupational health. that ended with the discovery of her body yesterday. she was found by the property manager. her father who lives in the bronx asked the manager to check in on her because he hadn't heard from her for a couple of days. jasmine's friends and former classmates have been pouring out their grief on social media stunned by the sudden end to such a promising young life. her neighbors are also frightened and upset. >> it's very upsetting devastating. i'm so sorry for her parents. oh my god.
