>> we have breaking news from south philadelphia. dozens of people have been evacuated from a fire that's ripped through a commercial building and four homes. the action cam was on the scene after 3:30. the 2000 block of juniper street. when firefighters arrived they found towering flames coming out of the top floor. >> "action news" reporter, trish hartman is live with all the details on this breaking news. >> reporter: eva and nydia about

100 firefighters on the scene fighting the blaze. we got an update from the fire commissioner who said the fire is under control. they are vague down the build at the corner of snyder and juniper. no injuries were reported. 17 people are out of their homes right now. firefighters got the call around 3:30 flames were shooting from the upper floors when crews arrived. firefighters put on a second and third alarm when they arrived. the fire has spread to four homes in the 1300 block of snyder avenue. officials say the homes staged damage to the outside. police officers went door to door excavating residents in the 2,000 morocco of juniper street, as well as south 13th street. police told people to move to the school yard of south

scene after 3:30 a.m. again, the fire has spread to at least four homes. firefighters struck a second and third alarm. there is a shelter set up at south philadelphia high school. no word on what sparked the fire. stick with "action news" and 6abc.com for updates. some rare summer rain in drought ridden southern california is helping feathers battle a wildfire. flames sent people running for their lives 55 miles northeast of los angeles. the fire started under elevated lanes of interstate 15. drivers and passengers ran from their cars to escape the flames. the fire destroyed 20 vehicles, but evacuation orders in the area has been lifted. the fire scorched about 8 1/2 square miles. there were two minor injuries. >> developing out of central california, police are looking for a man in connection in connection with the defendant of three children and two adults.

martin martinez is a person of interest. officers went to the home yesterday afternoon in response to a request to conduct a welfare check. that's when they found the body. investigators have not indicated how the five people died. emotions are running high this weekend over the confed flag. two thousand people clashed on the ground of the south carolina state house the black educators were there to support the removal of the flag. members of the ku klux klan showed up. five people were arrested.

juniper street. the fire spread to four homes. firefighters struck a second and third alarm. >> "action news" reporter, trish hartman is live in south philadelphia with all the breaking details. trish? >> reporter: eva and nydia, the fire is under control but crews will be out here for several hours working. no injuries, but heavy damage to the residential building that was under construction on juniper street. the fire commissioner said it took an hour and 45 minutes to get the fire under control. crews are working here. we're near the corner of broad and snyder. a number of street closures because of the on going effort. no injuries reported let's go to video from earlier this morning. firefighters got the call around 3:30 a.m. flames shooting from the top of the buildings when crews arrived. firefighters put out a second and third alarm. once they got here the second floor collapsed into the first floor. the fire spread
