102 in atlantic city. 98 in philadelphia and allentown. trenton, 97, reading 98 degrees, no relief in sight at least in the form of thunderstorms. here's satellite and radar clear as a whistle out here, we have a combination of sun and clouds there's upper level feature swinging through to trigger showers and thunderstorms today. we're stuck in it. no relief. if you're outdoors take frequent breaks and hydrate. 96 degrees that's the forecasted high. combination of sun and clouds, hazy, hot and humid. feels-like temperatures over 100. tomorrow is another bad one better by tuesday there's relief in the seven-day forecast. you'll like the relief in the numbers, i'll show you in just a little bit. >> we continue to follow a developing story this noon, a massive fire that lit up the early morning sky in south philadelphia. it spread to several homes and forced nearby residents to

evacuate. now fire officials say the three-alarm blaze is suspicious. trish hartman has been on the story all morning and joins us live from the scene. trish. >> reporter: eva and nydia. firefighters are going inside to start to investigate the suspicious fire, but the structure is smoldering so they need to continue to pour water on the structure this afternoon. 17 people were forced out and some are thankfully to be back if their homes. ash and charred debris littered the neighborhood. folks here were evacuated and nervous about what they would find when they returned. >> a lot of time ash. >> reporter: this mother and daughter say they are grateful there was not more damage. >> there could have been more damage i'm just thankful. >> all the embers were falling

in front of us and behind us, i was worried about my roof. >> reporter: more than 100 firefighters were called to the scene around 3:30 when flames shot in the sky. the fire spread to four homes damaging the exterior. officials say the building was under renovation and had no power connected. it took almost two hours to control the blaze and firefighters continued to work in the blazing sun pouring water on the smoldering building. an eyewitness said he saw two men in the building before it burst into flames. investigators spent the morning looking at surveillance video and questioned a person of interest. >> around 2:30, 3:00 p.m., i seen a guy with a black hoodie enter the building and at the same time i seen a spanish male on the roof and then i seen the one guy leave the scene as he left the scene and ran east

toward snyder avenue, the whole building exploded. >> reporter: no injuries were reported. no word on a cause. the fire marshal is on the scene. he'll be here all day long. the red cross is assisting a family of three after the fire. snyder avenue is closed between broad and 12th police ask that you avoid the area if you can the road closures will be in place throughout the afternoon. trish hartman, channel 6 "action news." >> as trish said dangerous heat has settled in over the area and the corporation for aging has opened their heat help line. afternoon after her father couldn't contact her. police say there were no signs of forced entery that -- entry that could indicate she knew her attacker. a suspect opened fire inside danny's midnight concessions on south street. witnesses say he made a negative comment about gay merchandise and left and came back a few minutes later and pulled out a gun. the suspect and the clerk got into a struggle and the gun went off. the clerk is hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the back. several people have been taken to the hospital after a septa bus rear ended another septa bus at oxford circle. the accident happened at 10:30 a.m. a route 67 hit a route 24 bus. the driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. four passengers were taken to

the hospital their injuries appear to be minor. investigators are trying to determine why the one bus ran into the other bus. starting tomorrow, septa and patco will sell special passes to use during pope francis' visit. the passes will be available online or at the broadway station. they go on sale 9:00 a.m. for the pope's visit september 26th and 27. the rail trains will stop at jefferson station or 30th street, but not suburban station. you must specify your home station and select a window for your travel time. all riders will need the one day pass. trail passes are not valid. there are less than 70 days for the pope's visit. for an update on his visit and the world meeting of families, follow our twitter feed @ 6abc

that's why the excessive heat warning has been issued for the i-95 corridor. this pattern sticks around through monday afternoon. we'll see feels-like temperatures ranging from 100 to 105 today. probably more like 98 to one 02 tomorrow. this pattern sticks around monday night into tuesday morning. well have a cold front move in that will allow the winds to shift to cooler, drier air. the if you're going to be outdoors stay hydrated. water, gatorade power aid something with electrolytes. take breaks in the shade preferably in an air conditioned room. by 2:30, the model is trying to show thunderstorms popping up. most of us will stay dry.

happening right now investigator question a person of interest in this morning's fire in south philadelphia. >> heat warnings are out for the area as the heat index goes for triple digits. >> there's new information on how victims were lured to a bomber in iraq. >> more on those stories but first let's go outside with a check of the accuweather forecast with meteorologist chris sowers, it's awful out there. >> reporter: it is awful out here this afternoon. i almost wish this breeze would stop, because all it's doing is making it feel like a convection oven. it's stirring everything up. 89 in philadelphia. good afternoon to you. 9 degrees in reading. dover checking in at 89.

dewpoints this is the way we measure the amount of moisture in the air. anytime you get over 70 it becomes oppressive. you can see how high they are right now. dover and sea isle city are 78 degrees, to give you an idea how oppressive that it is, when you think of humidity, the place that come to mind are new orleans, the deep south right? get a load of this, 78 degrees in sea isle city. there's only one place in the south that's showing something higher than that that's mobile, alabama. the it will be sticking around through monday afternoon. hopefully by tuesday as long as the cold front stays on schedule things will calm down. if you're heading to citizens bank park, 1:35 start phillies taking on the marlins 95 degrees by the 9th inning

with feels-like temperatures ranging between 100 and 105. make sure you apply the sunscreen and apply it frequently. that's a check of the forecast for now i'll head back inside and cool it off. i'll see you in ten minutes. fire officials say a three-alarmer in south philadelphia appears suspicious. the blaze broke out at 3:30 in the 2000 block of juniper street and forced dozens from their homes. trish hartman joins us live from the fire scene with the latest. trish. >> reporter: eva and nydia investigators spent the morning looking at surveillance images and questioning a person of interest. firefighters are take a break and then they will be back at it. they've pouring water on the structure all morning long so investigators can get in there to figure out a cause.

police officials say several properties are unsafe. you can see the orange signs in the window, those folks are not allowed back in their homes on snyder street. 17 in to that were forced out by the fire. flames shot from the 2000 block of juniper street always officials went door to door telling people to leave their homes. >> we came out it was so hot. you can you could see the flames. >> when i looked out the buildings across the from me was full of flames. >> reporter: more than 100 firefighters were called to the scene around 3:30 when flames shot into the sky. the fire spread to four homes on snyder avenue damaging the exterior. official officials say the builds was under renovation expected to become condos and commercial space. it took two hours to control the blaze, firefighters worked in the blazing sun pouring water on the smoldering buildings.

adults. police are saying martinez is a person of interest. they are not saying what is relationship was to the victims. officers found the bodies when they went to a home after a request to check on the family. so far investigators have not indicated how the five people died. from our delaware newsroom. state police are investigating a nasty collision between a car and tow truck. it happened on the 4000 block on new castle avenue in wilmington. the driver was seriously hurt crashing into the back of the tow truck. the driver is critical condition. a driver was involved in a two car crash in wissinoming section the 57 block of tacony. the vehicles ran into each other at 125. a driver a man in his 30s were a thrown from his car he is being treated for several significant injuries. the other driver had minor injuries. in news around the world banks if greece reopen tomorrow

front here, this cold front will dive probably down to the mason dixon line and stall. the secondary front will pick it up and push everything to the south. there's nice, dry air behind the front. comfortable stuff up there that slides through tuesday evening. surface maps there's the front. hazy, hot and humid a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm. tomorrow the first front starts to die out the second one picks i meant up and starts to cool everything off. fach -- future tracker 6 one or two areas pick up a thunderstorm. same thing in the evening hours hit or miss thunderstorms. the majority of the viewing area is dry partly cloudy tomorrow morning, by afternoon sunshine, clouds mix and the slight east chance of thunderstorms as the front gets going and interacts with the soupy air. some of the thunderstorms could be gusty. it's only about 30 or 4% chance.
