good morning to you all. i'm t.j. holmes. >> i'm reena ninan. here are top headlines we're following this morning on "world news now." california's wildfire battle is focused near sacramento. four major fires burning this morning. hundreds of families have been forced from their homes, more than 1,000 others ready to go. full details in a moment. gone too soon. bobbi kristina brown has died at the age of 22. the only child of whitney houston and bobby brown lost in a tragedy eerily similar to one that claimed the life of her mom just three years ago. president obama becoming the first president sitting president to ever visit ethiopia. he met with diplomats at the u.s. embassy. and fee at chrysler hit with a record fine up to $105 million to settle legal problems

stemming from nearly two dozen recalls. those involve some 11 million vehicles including some of the company's most popular models. those are some of your top stories on this monday july 27th. from abc news this is "world news now" with t.j. holmes and reena ninan. good morning. we begin this half hour with a battle against wildfires. 24 major fires burning in five states this morning. four of them near sacramento california. >> hundreds of families have been forced from their homes. hundreds of others are ready to go. abc's clayton sandell on then already tough fire season. >> reporter: an air war. planes and helicopters knocking back flames in hard to reach terrain 45 miles northeast of sacramento. burning so hot, you can see it from space. >> we're hitting it with everything we have. >> reporter: firefighters are working to protect about 2,000 structures, hundreds of people

told to evacuate their homes. >> we decide to get home start packing and loading up the camper. this is always going to be our get away. >> reporter: it's already been a bad fire season. 5.6 million acres blacken so far compared to 1.6 million acres this time last year. >> how hot are these burning >> about 1800 degrees fahrenheit. >> reporter: at the federal fire sciences lab in montana, they study how wildfires spread but they warn stopping destructive fires is getting tougher. more building are building homes in wildfire prone areas and more flames are being put out before they naturally burn off dry trees and brush that can build up. >> that means will burn longer more intense, monster fires. >> monster fires and fires that do the kind you have damage that it's very difficult to recover from. >> reporter: that fire in california still burning out of control and firefighters have a new worry on monday. they expect strong winds that

could push flames even closer to homes. clayton sandell, abc news denver. too much rain has been the problem across the sunshine state. several straight days of heavy rain pushed rivers and lakes into neighborhoods. caused flooding from tampa to miami. some residents seen fishing in their front yards. one man joking he always wanted a house where he could fish off the front porch. as for today's weather, floridians can expect more rain. severe storms for the midwest. across to the great plains and even the rockies, scattered storms the northeast and southwest. >> phoenix gets up to 108 degrees today. slightly cooler 100 in dallas. readings in the high 80s around the great lakes. mid to upper 70s along the west coast. investigators in louisiana say the deadly attack on a movie theater was not a random act. they say the gunman john houser wrote down the theater, the movie, and the screening time that he targeted in a journal. but it's not clear why he attacked.

today, the two women who died at that theater will be laid to rest. two of the nine injured remain in the hospital. the desperate search for two teenage boy who's vanished on a fishing trip in florida continues overnight. the 14-year-old best friends set off with a lot of experience on the water but few supplies. abc's kendis gibson with the latest developments. >> reporter: an ominous clue in the search for two missing florida teenager the coast guard confirming a boast discovered overturned and damaged off the coast of central florida is the same single engine vessel the teens set out on but no sign still of it austin stempb knows and perry cohen. >> it's unimaginable for any parent to have to be faced with not snowing where your child is. >> reporter: the 14-year-olds left their home in jupiter, florida, friday morning to fish in a nearby inlet but by midday the duo was text messaging friends and posting on snap shat saying they were heading to the bahamas. at least 675 miles away. they had no gps on board their boat. >> we'll do anything to get them

back. >> reporter: the boys last spotted buying fuel at this marina. their parents calling authorities, joined by friend and neighbor hall of famer joe namath who has helped the family raising a reward for their safe return. local boaters on the lookout. more than 150 miles north of where the boys departed consistent with the current. the coast guard search area now spanning more than 25,000 square miles with boats and aircraft. it is a race against time to find these boys. at one time the families had their own planes and boats searching for the pair. >>. hillary clinton again defending her use of private e-mail while she was secretary of state. that server of course at a campaign event in iowa she said she never sent information on the server. more of those e-mails expected to be made public this week. clinton is also peeking out about climate change proposing a change in the tax code to promote renewable energy. and the latest polls so

from abc news this is "world news now" with t.j. holmes and reena ninan. good morning. we begin with the tragic death of bobbi kristina brown, the only daughter of whitney houston and bob a brown and the sole heir to her mother's estate. >> she was just 22 years old. of course, shattered by the loss of her superstar mom and the circumstances surrounding their deaths are eerily similar. we get the latest now from abc's brandi hitt synergy like the second act of a family tragedy, whitney houston's daughter has followed her mother in death. >> 21-year-old female in the bathtub, face down. pb is en route. >> reporter: she was found unresponsive in the bathtub of her home in this gated community outside atlanta. she was rushed to the hospital where doctors placed her on a ventilator. later she was moved to a special intensive care unit at another hospital in the city. then to hospice care as her condition deteriorated. her death too similar to her

mother's. >> paramedics apparently a 46-year-old female found in the bathroom. >> reporter: in february of 20122, whitney houston was found in a hotel bathtub where authorities say she accidentally drowned. they found a dozen bottles of pills in her suite and determined that cocaine contribute dodd her death. after houston died bobbi chris taken nas struggled at one point hospitalized for anxiety. she agreed to star in a reality tv series and addressed rumors drug and alcohol abuse following her mother's death in an interviewable with oprah winfrey. >> i'm getting through it, you know? i'm doing as good as i possibly. >> reporter: bob aif was the only child of whitney houston and bobby brown. known as chrissy, the sole heir to her mother's estate. her father survives her. she claimed to be married to nick gordon but her father's lawyers say the two were never truly married. bobbi kristina brown was 22 years old. brandi hitt abc news los angeles.

bobbi kristina pat houston said she passed away yesterday surrounded by family in a statement on behalf of the family she said she is finally at peace in the arms of god. we want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months. we continue to get reaction to bobbi kristina's brown passing. we'll bring that to you. we have coverage all morning long. our other major story this morning, coast guard crews working through the night to find two teens who vanished three days ago. the 14-year-olds set off from upter, florida, with few supplies but a lot of experience on the water. abc's richard cantu has more. >> reporter: the search for two teenage boys who took to sea has yielded only their boat damaged and empty. >> there was a life jacket located near the boat. we don't know the for sure for certain if it was with the boat or not. >> reporter: for the parents of austin and perry cohen, it's cold comfort. >> it's he devastating to know they found the boat capsized.

but it's a relief. >> it is a relief because we know we know that the concentration will be so much stronger now in a specific area. >> reporter: the 14-year-old best friends set out friday morning to go fishing. by midday they were text messaging friends and posting on snapchat saying they were bound for the bahamas at least 75 miles away. no gps board their boat. the two were last seen buying $110 worth of fuel at this marina. their boat found 150 miles north of where they embarked consistent with the gulf stream currents. hall of famer know namath is a family friend. >> we've got to believe and the good lord got to help us out. >> reporter: the coast guard searching more than 25,000 square miles. in florida, a vigil for their safe return. >> we pray for what our heart's desire is. >> richard cantu, abc news new york. new details about the

shooting a louisiana theater. john houser carefully planned that deadly attack at the motel where he stayed. they found wigs and glasses that he used as disguises and more disturbing, they found a journal in which his intentions were clear. >> in that journal? >> two young women were remembered at a number of prayer services over the weekend. this morning, funeral services are scheduled for both of the victims. major battles in iraq this morning as government forces retake territory isis. iraqi troopses are in full control of and bar university. the city still being held by isis. over the weekend, iraq's defense minister released a video showing a coalition strike on what they said was a weapons factory controlled by isis. al shabaab has claimed responsibility for this deadly blast in somalia. at least 13 people killed when a suicide bomber rammed a truck

planes and helicopters will be back in the sky this morning to take on the lowell wildfire burning near sacramento. four firings were injured on sunday. one still hospitalized. hundreds of families forced from their homes. more than 1,000 others ready to go. conditions are so dry, this fire may have been sparked just by the exhaust from a four-wheeler. too much rain across the sunshine state caused flooding from tampa to miami. hev rain pushed rivers and lakes straight into neighborhoods. some residents were seen fishing from their own -- see this? from his own front yard. one man joked he always wanted a house where he could fish off the front porch and he said for a day he had it.

six others on board were injured. police say the group was having dinner and drinks before accepting a ride on a boat from a man they just met. they visited several bars before crashing the way back. investigators in louisiana say the deadly attack on a movie theater was premeditated murder. they say the gunman john houser kept a journal in which he wrote down the theater the movie and screening time that he targeted. at his motel they also found wigs and glasses to use as disguises. today the two women who died in the attack will be laid to rest. two of the nine injured were in -- remain in the hospital. hillary clinton sharing new details about her plan to combat climate change. speaking to supporters in iowa clinton proposed a change in the tax code to promote renewable energy. we expect to hear more about her proposals during a speech today in des moines and during a stop in iowa. clinton denied ever sending classified e-mails from a private server while she was secretary of state. more on those e-mails will be made public this week. on the republican side, mike huckabee is sticking by his

well, several people hurt when this swing ride at a kentucky amusement park, well, it did that. it toppled over. employees and emergency workers had to free the folks that were trapped in the ride. most of the injuries bumps and bruises. state inspectors will be looking at the ride. this was in bowling green. they'll take a look at it later today. >> some big trouble for automaker fiat chrysler hit with a record fine by the government because of its handling of the vehicle recalls. >> some owners of around 11 million vehicles didn't know their cars had been recalled. abc's david kerley spoke to anthony foxx, transportation secretary, about the case. >> reporter: the government had to go to the expense of these crash tests because fiat chrysler refused to share its data, one of nearly two dozen recalls, 11 million cars the government says chrysler botched.

♪ finally this half hour, a story a lot of people can appreciate. who can appreciate breakfast on the house? >> it sounds simple enough. for a waitress who took care of a couple of firefighters the story has a deeper meaning. here's abc's john donvan. >> reporter: it was only a few days ago these two guys were just liz woodward's customers. she is a waitress here in new jersey where at 5:00 in the morning on thursday, those two guys walked in. >> as they walked in, they said i need the biggest cup of coffee that you have. as soon as they said that, i knew they had had a day. >> reporter: they sure had. one of them paul a volunteer

firefighter had just spent hours fighting this one at a new jersey warehouse. he and volunteer firemen tim young were exhausted when they stopped in for an early breakfast. >> we were done with breakfast and she landed me the bill. as of then, we had no bill. >> reporter: instead they got a note. your breakfast is on me today. thank you for all you do serving others. the guys were flabbergasted. >> here's this waitress working a midnight shift. who knows how much tips she made that night and she's throwing in her money for a couple of regular guys. >> reporter: they put it on facebook it gets a lot of the attention and that's whennet they find out some of liz's own story. >> here's this waitress doing something so nice for us when she is really the one who needs the help. >> reporter: because she's been trying to raise money for a specialized van for her dad, a quadriplegic and wasn't even halfway there. then they posted about her. and suddenly there's close to $60,000 pledged. this is liz when she found that out. >> it's because of you guys.
