i am tracking heat wave number three which will begin tomorrow. today we're just dealing with a warm and very muggy day with dewpoints in philadelphia 67 degrees. we have some dewpoints in the 70's and that's bringing a lost moisture in the air and with that moisture we are seeing some isolated spotty downpours. they're really not moving much at all. no lightning strikes but we have spotty downpours in south jersey and this one line right now through northeast philadelphia into camden county as we zoom in here, this is right over frankford over bustleton avenue, over i-95 palmyra right now and we've seen this sitting here for about the past 45 minutes so really no steering winds to move it along. so, some of these areas have seen more than a half inch of rain. so, with the high moisture content in the air any spotty downpour can really drop a lot of rain in a short period of time. temperature-wise, though it's not that hot yet. 85 degrees in philadelphia. we can handle that. normal my for this time of the

security perimeter extending around and well beyond the ben franklin parkway. >> want to be very, very clear with all of you. no official security perimeter has been announced or fully and finally determined. >> reporter: the mayor said the city is working with the federal government to strike a balance between security safety and accessibility while hosting the leader of the roman catholic church who is also ahead of state. >> i am not planning to give every nut case in the universe a significant amount of advanced information from a security standpoint as to exactly where and when and how and what route pope francis is going to be transported. >> i'm sure that our city has an exact plan but as far as the citizens go, we'll find out eventually. yeah, i'm going with the flow. i think people should be happy that he's coming its a great thing, you know.

couldn't traffic report tostark ondraft contrast to yesterday. mother and daughter remain in stable condition. the couple had a history of domestic strife. >> every time it would be back and forth. you could hear them back and forth. this time it was like a cry please somebody help me. she was saying please stop. >> reporter: donna bowlds from lancaster was visiting her mother next door when she heard bloodcurdling screams and saw the woman pinned to the floor and on the top burton stabbing her repeatedly. she called police but by the time they arrived burton had fled in his car. he was arrested last night in maryland apparently without incident. >> she don't have to worry he's in custody and everybody can rest. i even got some sleep last night, so with him being locked up it's -- it's great. >> reporter: sharrie, again burton's extradition hearing

is set for tomorrow morning in the city of baltimore. live at the north detective division, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news" in olney. >> okay, vernon, thank you. now from our delaware news room, the death of a young man from middletown has been ruled accidental. 20-year-old ty sawyer died after getting into a fight. there's no evidence the fight itself caused sawyer's death t his parents disagree and have spoken out about their son's death. police in burlington county are investigating a robbery at a cvs pharmacy. they say it may be related to other crimes in the tri-state. you can see the suspect. police say he pulled out a handgun and ordered two employees in the office to grab cash from the safe. over the weekend two men held up a cvs in aston delaware county. police say in that case the workers were tied up during the robbery. earlier this month a man robbed the cvs in wilmington like the were 91 new jersey it happened about 7:00 a.m.

burlington township police say they're reaching tout other local agencies to see if any of this information matches up. >> the boy scouts of america board is expected to vote today on ending the group's blanket ban on gay scout leaders. the national executive board adopted a resolution early this month that would change the longstanding policy. the change still has to be put to a vote but it is expected to pass and if approved, local chapters would be allowed to make their own decisions on allowing gay leaders. today's vote comes two years after the boy scouts lifted a national ban on gay youths in there organization. >> time right now for a check of our "action news" traffic report monday night. >> matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. how was the weekend matt. >> the weekend was great. you guys enjoy yours? >> once we got home. took some time, though. >> it will take a little time this afternoon not a ton but a little. things are getting better though rick and monica, at the ben franklin bridge. our good buddy ben had some police activity up until just about two minutes ago. they were blocking the eastbound right lane but police just pulled away.

now this is also good news because they had to suspend all service on the one set of patco tracks that remains opened. this set of course out of construction -- out of commission for construction. so, with that police activity gone, now the patco trains can move again between center city and camden. things returning to normal at this hour on the ben franklin bridge. but we still have that accident involving the truck that was pulling the trailer and the trailer flipped over here in springfield township delaware county. you want to avoid baltimore pike at norwinden drive by the chucky cheese. this is 422 westbound our normal afternoon. little bit of slowing and watch out for construction here each night this week starting at 7 o'clock by trooper road. going to see delays then on 422 as well. here in that mount laurel there's a bad crash this afternoon along 295 northbound near route 73 with some restrictions there. and in camden they're tearing down the old commerce building so all week long federal street and broadway are closed but you can get to the walter rand transportation center. there's the good news for if you, rick and monica. >> always a silver lining.

>> there are nine wildfires burning right now across the state of california. campgrounds were evacuated and residents put on alert as one of the fires continues to threaten hundreds of structures in sierra national forest. the fire is only 5 percent contained. meanwhile another wildfire burning in napa valley wine country is now 70 percent contained tonight. >> well, in health check tonight the u.s. may finally have reached a turning point in the battle against obesity. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman is at the big board with that story tonight. ali. >> hi, guys. there is still a long way to go but the message may finally be getting through that eating and drinking too much is harmful to your health.

because according to store sales and food diaries americans are now eating less. for adults calorie consumption peaked in 2003 but that has been declining slowly ever since. for children, it's dropped 9 percent for the average child. the biggest shift has been in full calorie soda. that's down 25 percent since the late 1990's. now, americans still are not eating nearly enough fruits and vegetables and still eating too much jung food but the downward trend is encouraging. also today the u.s. air force has a new unit for transporting patients with ebola or other highly contagious diseases. the transporter isolation system fits into a c17 transporter plane. it can handle multiple patients. during last year's ebola outbreak patients were flown back to the u.s. one at a time in a cramped charter jet. now, this will also boost the quality of care. >> we can provide critical

care in the air inside the transport isolation system. other units really aren't capable of doing that. >> air force officials hope that there are no outbreaks like the ebola outbreak but said that they will be ready just in case. and finally today for new parents there is always a lot of advice out there but are they getting the right advice from trusted sources? a new study finds that may not be the case. a survey of more than 1,000 new moms shows up to half don't remember getting advice from their doctors about key topics. were 915 didn't recall advice about breastfeeding. more than half reported no advice on pacifier use. and one in four say their healthcare provider didn't discuss the best way for babies to sleep on their back. now, it is possible that some of this information was given but the new moms were overwhelmed. many experts recommend new parents write out a list of questions covering those important topics and ask your doctor before the baby arrives.

>> ♪♪ >> verizon workers in nine states have voted to go on strike over disputes about a new contract. the contract which expires august 1st covers 39,000 workers. the union says verizon is demanding workers sharply increase healthcare can be bruces and macon sessions on pensions. the company has been training nonunion employees to take over in the event of a strike. it is the record fine for fiat-chrysler. the company has been ordered to pay more than $100 million for allegedly mishandling the recalls on 11 million vehicles. regulators say jeep, dodge and chrysler vehicles were on the road with defective steering

parts, bad axles electrical problems and more. at least 75 people have died in crash-related fires. fiat-chrysler says it accepts the consequences and promises to improve how they handle recalls from now on. >> almost that time of year believe it or not time to get ready for back to school but good news, families could be spending a little less this year. a national retail federation released its annual back to school spending survey. it found families of children in grades k through 12 planned to spend about 600 thrift dollars that's down a bit from the $669 last year. overall $68 billion will be spent on back to school including college student shoppers. in the last decade school spending, though has gone up overall 42 percent. >> during the summer the shore is the place to be and one group in particular has special day of fun. about 75 kids and adults from 21 down were given the royal treatment at the shore. all of them have down's syndrome. but today that didn't matter

as this was their annual beach day. they hit the ocean to swim and to surf on the boards. it's organized and hosted by the lifeguards at wildwood beach. >> surrounded by lifeguards, different professionals that actually know what they're doing in the water that,y can help the kids feel confident. >> the favorite part of the day is just seeing the kids smile. the smiles on their face are just phenomenal and some of the kids they might not be vocal, they might not speak but did you see that huge smile. >> yeah, the smile says it all. this is the seventh year in a row that the lifeguards at wildwood beach put this on for the kids and the adults with down's syndrome so as you can see the kids love it but not only do they love it but the lifeguards and that business community that pitches in to make this happen, they say it's really their best day of the summer as well. >> how nice. >> we love watching it. thank you sharrie. >> yeah. >> up next at 5:00 we will check that accuweather forecast for you. >> meantime looking live outside, the beach here in atlantic city, it's certainly packed tonight. meteorologist cecily tynan has details from accuweather.

storm tracker6 live double scan showing we have isolated downpours beginning to die off, one in northeast philadelphia and one in montgomery county near willow grove and a few across burlington county. dropping pretty heavy downpours with the high moisture content in the air. temperature-wise, we're generally in the low to mid 80's. philadelphia 85 degrees. allentown 86. trenton 85. millville 83. you'll notice, though, with those winds out of the southeast it is cooler on the beaches with that sea breeze. the boardwalk in atlantic city 76 and sea isle city 77. you factor in dewpoints in the upper 60's and around 70, it feels like 88 degrees in philadelphia. it feels like 90 in allentown. but tomorrow is when temperatures will climb into the 90's and the heat index by wednesday and thursday could be around 100. so, it's going to get hotter and more humid. satellite6 along with action radar showing isolated downpours, not a lot of

activity here. i have been tracking low pressure down over florida. last week some of the computer models were indicating that this low pressure could become a tropical storm but now it's really just getting sheered. the top of it is getting cut off by winds so this will not become tropical. it will just shift to the east and it has been dropping some very heavy rain across parts of florida but that's something that really will not be affecting our weather. we're just going to be hot and humid. tonight partly cloudy, a warm and muggy night 73 degrees in philadelphia. allentown 65. wilmington 71. trenton 70. cape may 73 and the atlantic city airport 72 degrees. future tracker showing the heat index will be in the low 90's. temperatures in the low 90's. humidity not a huge factor on wednesday and thursday. this is really going to be the peek of the heat. we're looking at a heat index up into the upper 90's and it could be around 100 on thursday. the heat index. so, it is going to be hot and humid. for the five day at 5:00

williams and monica malpass. >> hello again and here's what's happening on "action news" tonight. several wildfires are burning in california. the threat to hundreds of homes tonight. police think a man who was killed this month may really have been a serial killer. the disturbing items they recovered from his car and the crimes he may be responsible for. plus, the story behind this magazine cover featuring dozens of bill cosby's accusers and one powerful image. >> now the details on the wildfires that are forcing evacuations in california. crews are fighting nine different blazes in the state tonight. the flames that spread quickly in hot dry conditions and the fight has become dangerous for crews on the ground. just yesterday four firefighters were injured. abc's brandi hitt is live in los angeles tonight's with more. brandy. >> reporter: hi, rick, yeah, one of those firefighters is recovering from serious burns right now and it's not just the heat. the terrain is brutal out there. it is so difficult for fire

crews to navigate these steep mountain sides. homeowners are stepping in and trying to help. raising infernos in the west. several out of control wildfires continue to race up california's drought stricken mountainside. >> fires are burning quickly. >> reporter: the fight is becoming increasingly dangerous. at least four firefighters have been injured battling the hot fast moving load fire east of sacramento one suffering serious burns. the rugged terrain also not making it easy for the 1100 men and women now on the ground relying heavily on air support to save hundreds of homes threatened. >> personnel from as far away as santa cruz had driven to save my home. >> reporter: some families helping out and bull dozing their own fire lines. >> i hope everything at least keeps the property safe enough to say that the fire has moved up the road. >> reporter: since january there have been more than 5200 wildfires in california

burning roughly 75,000 acres. >> it's been so dry. everything is so brown. >> reporter: those bone dry conditions also fueling this wildfire 250 miles south near bass lake where campgrounds have been evacuated and more homes are in danger. and unfortunately extreme heat is in store this week and as we get deeper into summer and fall fire crews say conditions eat again drier meaning what's now a year long fire season here in california will likely get worse. reporting live in los angeles brandi hitt channel6 "action news. back to you monica. >> thank you brandy. police believe a man killed this month in west virginia may have actually been a serial killer responsible for the death of up to 10 women. 45-year-old kneel falls was killed july 18th when police say he tried to attack an escort whom he met online. now, that woman told investigators falls drew a gun on her and tried to strangle her. she says she grabbed the gun

and shot him. police later found what they call a kill kit in his car. it included handcuffs knives, shovels and cleaning supplies. detectives now suspect he is linked to the death or disappearances of women in nevada illinois and ohio. they have asked the fbi to join that investigation. >> at the "action news" big board now it's a cover story that's sure to get a lot of attention. instead of the traditional one person cover, how about this? 35 women are featured on the cover of new york magazine. all 35 have accused bill cosby of sexual assault. well the stark black and white image shows the women sitting in chairs with their hands clasped or on their laps. the stories are about the explosive allegations against the legendary sitcom start. the cover which is out today shows 35 of the 46 women who have come forward publically to accuse bill cosby of rape or sexual assault. many of the accusers say they

were also drugged. the 78-year-old comedian has denied it and has not been charged with a crime. but in a 2005 court deposition made public three weeks ago cosby stated that he intended to give quaaludes to young women with whom he wanted to have sex with. okay. inside the article the women shared their individual stories of when they say cosby sexually assaulted them and we also want you to take a closer look at this. on the last row of the cover new york magazine left a 36th claire vacant, possibly for those who have yet to come forward. cosby's rep says he has no comment on this magazine cover. over to monica. >> all right sharrie thank you. the initial phase of an autopsy is now complete on bobbi kristina brown. it shows no medical conditions or significant injuries that could have led to her death. a medical examer said the case is complicated though, because so much time has passed between the day she became unresponsive in january until her eventual death

yesterday. police initially described it as a drowning. brown was found face down in a bathtub at her georgia townhome sinal lar to the way officials discovered her mom whitney houston three years ago. >> from our delaware news room tonight police are trying to identify the man suspected in three bank robberies in wilmington over the past few months. detectives believe he robbed the artisan's bank on silver side road back on may 14 and then again on june 8th. he's also suspected of robbing the wsfs bank on concorde pike on friday. in each case police say he showed a weapon to the bank teller and demanded cash. no one was hurt during any of the robberies. in philadelphia police are trying to find the man who robbed a payless shoe store in hunting park. this is new surveillance video of the holdup on june 28th. investigators say the man pretended to want to buy a pair of sandals from the store on east hunting park avenue. the 51-year-old employee started to ring him up. that's when the man went behind the counterclaiming he had a gun. still unclear how much money

he got away with but anyone who recognizes him should contact philadelphia police. >> investigators say one man's social media account helped them bust a marijuana growing operation in camden county. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic shows us the suspect and the images police used to track him down. >> sometimes people want to brag about the wrong things and this one came back to haunt him. >> reporter: winslow township police recently arrested 20-year-old connor kennedy of sicklerville on possession and intent to distribute marijuana charges after they identified him as the suspect allegedly growing pot in the backyard of an abandoned home on brierly drive a few doors from his house. seen here in a video where he appears to be smoking marijuana, kennedy unwittingly helped police make the case against him by posting pictures of himself and the pot plants on instagram and tumbler writing if you plant it, it will grow. >> the police department utilizes a lot of social media to find out information and everything you put on social

media can be seen or used against you. >> reporter: police had photos of kennedy taken with surveillance cameras and were able to use the pictures he posted with his pot plants online to place him at the scene. >> the geo tag goals on the picture and then we can extract that to find out where the location was. >> reporter: these days police use all the tools they can to solve crime including computer savvy cops and technology. it's an extra bonus though when the criminals take pictures of themselves doing it and post it online. >> some things you just like stand back and shake your head and say i can't believe that that really happened but it does. >> the generation growing up with social media it is so nonchalant people don't understand the ramifications of what they post. >> an individual did something he shouldn't have done and got caught because he bragged about it on social media. >> reporter: it's a lesson police say connor kennedy is learning the hard way. in sicklerville, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." >> a man survived a shooting

in kensington. this 18-year-old was shot on his bicycle just after midnight. police say he winds to buy his mom a drink at a corner store on norris street. he managed to crawl onto north fourth street after the attack where police found him and took him to the hospital. now investigators believe that two suspects were involved. >> president obama continues his historic trip through africa tonight. earlier today he took the cha and to call out his critics on the international stage. mr. obama is in ethiopia this evening. he's the first sitting president to visit the eve african country. during a state dinner the president addressed criticism of his landmark nuclear deal with iran. >> there's a reason why 99 percent of the world thinks this is a good deal is 'cause it's a good deal. there's a reason why the overwhelming majority of nuclear scientists and nonproliferation experts think it's a good deal. it's 'cause it's a good deal. >> before ling to dinner the

>> crews in florida have now searched an area the size of indiana looking for two teenagers who disappeared offer the coast. perry cohen and austin stephanos were last seen friday buying boat fuel in jupiter florida hours before thunderstorms hit that area. they were believed to have been heading toward the bahamas. their boat was found yesterday more than 180 miles north of

lows. and then as we look at high pressure that's really in control, there's two high pressures double barrel high, one to the northwest, one to the southeast for your to us. it's mostly sunny hot and humid although the humidity will drop a little bit tomorrow compared to today. 92 degrees. it will feel close to 93 in the afternoon and then wednesday could be the hottest day of the year so far of 96. but not the hottest heat index because the atmosphere again is a little drier than it was the previous weekend when we hit 105 a week ago on sunday. association it will be close to 100 here on wednesday with a combination of that air temperature and the humidity. down the shore is the place to be this week. 73 the ocean temperature. the air temperature 82. lots of sunshine, humid with that afternoon sea breeze going to work to cool you off. as we look at the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, hazy hot humid tuesday. 92 degrees. and then dangerous heat on wednesday, up to 96 but again that humidity will be low enough that we should stay at
