charged in a 29-count indictment on charges ranges from conspiracy to bank fraud to bribery. it is wednesday night. and the big story on "action news" tonight is the federal indictment of chaka fattah. the u.s. attorney made the announcement today and described fattah allegedly engaged in four schemes. fattah accused of ill legally using federal grants and donations to his non-profit educational foundation to pay back a $600,000 debt from his failed mayoral campaign in 2007. and to net him hundreds of thousands in profits. the indictment also accuses him of trying to steer a $15 million federal grant to a consultant in exchange for forgiving of a debt. charges say that fattah tried to use campaign funds to pay back $23,000 of his son's student loans. and the indictment talks about an $18,000 bribe from a lobbyist

to finance a vacation home in the poconos. >> the public expects public officials to act with honesty and ti integrity. these type of criminal acts betray the public truck and undermine faith in government. >> and fattah has a very different take on the matter. >> i have never been involved in wrongdoing, ill legal activity. >> fattah is keeping a busy schedule throughout the investigation including to flying to philadelphia along air force one with the president. he resigned a post today, but he says he will continue to serve his constituents. and getting reaction to all of this, we begin with dann on north 54th street outside of fattah's philadelphia office.

>> it is sad to see anything go through this process, but especially someone i have known to work with for a long, long period of time. >> fattah served as years as a state representative and a state senator before winning his congressional seat in 1994. he ran for mayor in 2007. and it was the funding for that campaign that stands at the center much today's indictment. with that said, political analyst says if the allegations are true, it's not terribly surprising. >> the pressure on men and women running for office to raise money, that's not an excuse for wrong behavior. >> during a neighborhood event earlier today, the daryl clark said it is important to keep in mind at this point these are simply allegations. >> surely the congressman will put up a vigorous defense. we will see how this plays out. but it is an unfortunate event. >> and all those we spoke with that emphasized that congressman fattah is innocent until proven

guilty in court. reporting live from the courthouse from channel 6 "action news." four other indictments today including two of fattah's aides. and fattah's son, chaka fattah, jr. say waiting trial in another federal case. pan -- an indictment says he misspent thousands in educational funding, lied on income on tax returns and took out business loans wife he then used to payoff personal and gambling debts. he has denied all wrong-doing. and congressman fattah is not the only prominent poll situation from this area currently fighting corruption charges while serving in washington. new jersey senator robert menendez is it vigorously defending himself on a bribery scene involving a political donor he calls his close, personal friend. the indictment handed down in april. the coverage of chaka fattah's indictment continues on

the mid to upper 90s, but they could briefly hit 100 degrees in a few areas before a cold front moves through late tomorrow afternoon. now stormtracker 6 double scan showing the front right now doesn't have a lot of moisture to work with. it is across central ohio into kentucky. this system will be heading our way. what it will do is knock down some of this humidity by friday. but as it does, it will create an unsettled day. it looks like the period of most of the organized activity will be around 5:00 in the evening. and stormtracker showing a good line of squall lines that can have heavy downpours and gusty winds. and also dealing with some downpours earlier in the day. i will talk about that in the full accuweather seven-day forecast. >> thank you. a tantalizing crew turned up in the missing malaysia plane crash. what piece of debris has found.

the wreckage came from the trailing edge of a boeing 777 wing. it washed ashore on a french island off the coast of africa. that is 4,000 miles away from where the plane was presumed down. the mh370 in the indian ocean in march of 2014. investigators hope to determine with certainty whether the wing piece came from the plane, but experts same it still won't solve the mystery of why the plane went down and why its final resting place may be. a woman tried to take a picture had to be rescued at penns landing. backing up to frame a shop when she tumbled into the delaware river. they plucked the unidentified woman from the river and refused medical treatment. she is ok. and officials have little to go on in a deadly shooting. a man murdered at the arborwood's apartments at 8:00

and other detalgs -- details released. this fire finally out but not before it went to four-alarm. burning on the unit blocks of north main street in the downtown district. the building house as hair salon with apartments above. fortunately nobody was hurt. this is the woman police say struck and killed a little boy on a southwest philadelphia street back in april. she is 27-year-old shanika mason from sharon hill. and today she turned herself in. investigators say that a 4-year-old was playing outside when he ran into the street. they say mason struck the child, knocking him to the ground. they say when she decided to flee the scene she struck him again, causing the injuries that led to his death. tonight a 46-year-old man recovering from utterly dramatic emergency surgery performed on railroad tracks in northeast

philadelphia. he lost his foot, but he gained more life. tonight "action news" reporter sharrie williams talked to the doctors. >> it was in the middle of the night when the doctors got the call. >> it was a little surreal, but i think it's one of those situations where we're trained to just act and think about it afterwards. >> a pedestrian on the train tracks in northeast philadelphia was hit by a cfx freight train. the leg pinned under the wheel needed to be amputated. part of the medical team called on for situations like this >> you want to make sure the patient is make it through it. >> a 46-year-old male, and the train tracks became their operating room. a far cry from the involved environment that they are used to, but both doctors are trained to perform operations in the field. but performing this amputation under these conditions would be

a first. >> physically crawling under the train and another medic was up under the train by the patient's head. >> it was the harsh conditions i had to work in. it was def def >> it was definitely over 100 degrees. >> and he had to the have part of his leg amputated. and the man was conscious but heavily sedated. >> we used a surgical saw and another saw. >> a successful surgery that only lasted about 10 minutes. it was the first time these doctors ever performed an amputation in the field and it saved a life. >> it was the right thing to do in the right time. and getting that patient out when we did probably saved his life. >> in northeast philadelphia, sharrie williams channel 6

a former university of cincinnati police officer is expected to be arraigned on murder charges tomorrow for killing a man during a traffic stop earlier this month. it was captured on the officer's body cam and one the prosecutor

says was senseless. the officer pulled over a 43 year old for a missing front license plate. the video lasts 10 minutes. what it shows, left the prosecutors shocked. >> i think he lost thinks temper. when you see this you will not believe how quickly he pulls his gun and shoots him in the head. >> unarmed, his family is calling for peace saying they are grateful they are getting justice. and the officer has been fired from his job and faces life in prison if convicted. international outrage growing against a minnesota dentist who killed a protected lion earlier this month in zimbabwe. protesters showed up outside of the office are walter palmer today. palmer killed a lion named cecil who was illegally lured from the santuary where he lived. it is believed that palmer shot cecil with a cross bow and tracked the wounded cat for 40 hours before killing him with a

gun. palmer says he had no idea the lion was protected. a horse jockey accused of shooting a trainer at delaware park race track today. witnesses say it was all over a woman. chopper 6 hd over the scene just after it happened at 9:00. police say the jockey, ruben rojas of wilmington, shot the trainer near the stables, tossed his weapon and then took off. investigators tracked him down at an apartment complex a few miles away. the victim is in the hospital in stable condition. ♪ this is vote 2016 tonight and the g.o.p. field has grown once again. jim gilmore filed paperwork today. there are now 17 republicans running for president. gilmore is a former governor of the state of virginia. it is a crowded field, to say the very least. absolutely. accuweather forecast might be just a little cooler

action radar showing the line right there, that's the cold front. it doesn't look all that impressive right now, but it will be gathering some moisture as it moves to the east. and future tracker showing tomorrow a lot of clouds and a few spotty downpours. not widespread, but any downpore can have a lot of rain with all of the moisture in the air. heading into the afternoon, this is when the cold front gets a little closer. by 1:00, some breaks of sunshine south and east. and futuretracker showing a pretty good squall line through the i-95 corridor around 5:30 in the evening and reaching the shore about 9:00. that front will drop humidity levels onfully. what are we looking at tomorrow? the biggest risk, dangerous lightning and heavy downpours. one of the scenarios when you hear that thunder get inside immediately. and the downpours could cause localized flooding. also, a low-to-moderate risk of

strong winds. unfortunately a low risk of hail or torontos. and at the shore the main line of storms holds off until tomorrow evening. keep your eye to the sky, there will be a few pop-ups earlier in the day. otherwise clouds and sun, and humid and warm 85 degrees at the shore. the exculusive accuweather forecast, tomorrow not that hot, 90. but humidity feeling like 100. thunderstorms are rolling through, especially late in the day tomorrow evening. friday still a hot day, 90. the dewpoints will be in the 50s. so it will be much more comfortable. and sunday, monday and tuesday in the 90s, and a strong cold front tuesday night, finally brabing the heat wave wednesday. the high only 87 degrees. and david murphy will have the latest on the storms coming up tomorrow morning beginning at 4:30. >> thank you.
