hamels is back in the stadium today to collect some belongings and say his goodbyes. he left here for the airport immediately afterwards. hamels will pitch for the rangers tomorrow in their game against the san francisco giants. hamels had a really good run here with the phillies, 114 victories, that's six most in team history. a world series m.v.p. and a no-hitter just last week. he leaves the only professional team he has ever known. >> you know, this is a huge, huge part of who i. and what i've become. this is, you know, it's number one opportunity that i've been able to be given in playing baseball and especially to play for, you know, the historical city of philadelphia. you know, some of the best memories i've ever had. this is where i've had to grow. you guys have been there. you know, you've been there through everything that i've had to learn and endure in not only my baseball career but

two-year-old daughter until she was murdered inside her port richmond home and police say her child was at home at the time. now they're trying to find out just who would want this woman dead. chad pradelli live at the crime scene this afternoon. chad has the latest on the investigation. chad. >> reporter: brian, we've seen a steady stream of people coming here to the crime scene. they've been placing teddy teddy bears lighting candles laying flowers and paying their respects. they describe a young mother way bright future and police tell me that they don't believe this was a random act but this home was targeted. it was the morning of disbelief and sadness for friends and family of tool-year-old stephanie dzikowski. late last night the killer walked into the aramingo avenue home and shot her once in the head while dzikowski's two-year-old daughter sat on the bed next to her. >> how could it happen? she's never -- she never did anything. she had everything going for her. >> i'm numb. i'm still trying to suck it all in.

i don't believe -- i'm still thinking she's going to walk down the street and say hi, i'll be right back. >> reporter: marie harkins is a friend and long time neighbor. she as well as police say dzikowski's boyfriend was getting groceries when the killing occurred. he found the body and ran next door in a panic. harkins told him to calm down and rushed to the crime scene. >> i got scared first and then i got a sick feeling in my stomach and it was just like nothing but blood. >> reporter: another neighbor saw a man in a gray hoodie run from the home seconds after the gun shot. this is surveillance video that may have captured the killer fleeing down aramingo. neighbors say earlier in the day a man in a gray hoodie kept riding his bicycle up and down the block which seemed odd with temperatures in the 90's. police have no suspects. relatives worry about the little girl left without a mother. >> i know our family, she'll definitely be taken care of, you know what i mean.

>> reporter: and those who knew the victim say there will be a vigil held here tonight at 8:00 p.m. live in port richmond, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> it is a disheartening story, chad. thank you. cars and houses were hit with bullets during an early morning shooting in philadelphia's feltonville section around 2:30 this morning on the 300 block of east rockland a police say the bullet holes came from opposite directions leading them to believe al shootout happened on the corner. vernon odom talked to neighbors who were startled out of their sleep by the gun shots. he'll have more at 5 o'clock. >> in new jersey today police announced arrests in an organized retail theft ring dubbed operation pandora. police say these six people you see right here plus another unidentified woman stole more than $800,000 in jewelry from various states including new jersey. state police investigators were tipped off to the ring back in may of last year. that's when the group allegedly followed a vehicle from a jewelry trade show in

mount laurel. then robbed the occupants once they stopped at the clara barton service area on the new jersey turnpike in salem county. police say the ring is also behind two jewelry store thefts in mercer county back in 2013 and 14. at tindal diamonds in robbinsville ring members allegedly stole about $100,000 in loose diamonds by distracting a clerk and then reaching over a display counter to grab the jewels. this ring, by the way has also been linked to thefts in new york, pennsylvania illinois virginia and rhode island and today brian, six of them plus one other arrested. >> all right, alicia thank you very much. a nasty crash involving a dump truck tied up traffic for hours today on the northeast extension of the pennsylvania turnpike. it happened in the southbound lanes in nether providence township. the crash involved three vehicles including that dump truck. police have not said if anyone was hurt but chopper six was overhead as medics took

someone away on a stretcher. the wreck blocked entire highway for hours but all of the lanes are back opened this afternoon. >> we are just 56 days away from the pope's visit to philadelphia but city officials are not the only ones planning for the occasion. some people are looking for places to stay while others are looking to get out of town to avoid the crowds and that has led to a very unique rental market. john rawlins is covering this story for us. he's live at the art museum with the details. >> reporter: what you described right there is that the sound of opportunity knocking. if you're going to get out of town anyway and you have an empty apartment why don't you rent it out maybe for hundreds possibly thousands of dollars. easy money right? well, you better be sure what you're doing. >> i rented on air b and b how much money do you think i could get. >> reporter: the lure of short term rentals modest apartments upscale condos entire homes on craigslist, air b and b. the world meeting of families partner home stay, asking

prices $18,000 a week or more not uncommon. but before you dive in and become a papal visit landlord consider some issues or it could cost. if you're a renter does your landlord allow subleasing. many don't. even if you own a condo you may be in for a shock says chuck homer. he works for a firm that manages condos just blocks from the art museum. he checks online sites looking for offerings in his building to warn owners such rentals violate the rules and for good reason. you think you may be rendering to a pair of quiet pilgrim but a much bigger group arrives and causes damage. >> a lot of the owners aren't even looking at the risk exposure to themselves and most people, i mean, it's a natural 10 desi in human nature to be self interested. they're not even looking at if their insurance doesn't protect them and someone comes and steals their belongings or damages their home. >> reporter: this is a worst case scenario. $75,000 worth of damage to a canadian home. four adults hosted a party of

in the "action news" traffic center and it looks like no one is going anywhere quickly. >> you want to say your prayers before you head out on this friday afternoon. it is a mess on the roadways, brian and sharif it's a friday afternoon in the summertime so things are very busy with shore traffic and a bunch of events and a crash on the schuylkill expressway. eastbound side the accident is at south street taking out the left lane. as the sign here by montgomery tells you but that's not where the delay begins. begins the whole way back at city avenue and then it's just a long slow crawl like this on into south side street. that travel time of nearly 50 minutes should be about 15 on the eastbound side. travel times are double, triple even quadruple what they should be in many cases this afternoon. and yes, like i said, several events around the region. a j cole concert at 6:30 in camden a phils game at 7:05 and then weird sal at the mann at 7:30. in addition to the shore traffic people are headed to all those different events. a crash in upper darby along route three west chester pike

>> police in northeastern pennsylvania are looking for a teenager who was abducted from her home. an amber al slower in effect for 16-year-old jena patterson. patterson on the left was taken from her home in wilkes-barre at gun point yesterday according to police. she was last seen wearing gray yoga pants an multi-colored t-shirt. police say the man on the right walter louis was the one who took her. he's accused of -- he's considered armed and dangerous. officials believe lewis is driving a red car. anyone with information is asked to call 911. >> the man accused of gunning down nine people inside a charleston church last month wants to plead guilty to the crimes. during an arraignment in federal court today dylann roof's lawyers said that his client wanted to enter a guilty plea to all 33 charges against him but that he could

not advise him to do so. the judge then entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. roof wore shackles and did not speak other than to say yes to several of the judge's questions today. >> confirmation for a few days now but analysts believe this piece of a wing from a boeing 777 is in fact missing from malaysia airlines flight 370. that wing part washed ashore on a remote island in the indian ocean off the southeastern coast of africa and it's on its way to france to be analyzed by forensic investigators. what experts can say for sure is that it is from a boeing 777 and that there are no other planes like that missing in the world. it's also white the same color as the missing aircraft. the part called the flaperon helps the plane slow down for landings. the fact that it's mostly intact offers some pretty vital clues. >> an indication that the flaps were deployed, that somebody wanted higher lift on

the airplane as if they were trying to land or ditch the air plan on the water. >> the part won't lead crews to the wreckage but it indicates the search area near australia is correct. the same man who spotted wing part also discovered suitcase that washed up on the island. malaysian officials are also looking into a possible connection there. still a lot of unanswered questions, sharrie but possibly a clue. >> possibly so. let's hope so. alicia thank you. cvs accused of intentionally overcharging customers for generic prescription drugs. the lawsuit alleges the pricing scheme has been going on since 2008 and that it involves customers who buy medications through third party plans. that lawsuit claims cvs has been submitting claims to those third parties at inflated prices sometimes three or four times the usual price. that third party plan is called health savings pass. it's a discounter program not insurance. a cvs spokesman said company

not comment on the case but says a similar case was dismissed in massachusetts. now here's a look at today's closing numbers. stocks were down on the day across-the-board but it was a big july on wall street overall. the dow was up for the month the nasdaq rose about 3 percent and the s & p grew 2 percent. also oil was down 20 percent. >> well, it's something eagles fans look forward to all summer long. the birds will report to training camp this weekend. the players report tomorrow then hold their first practice on sunday. most of the camp is closed to the public but the team will hold two open practices at lincoln financial field. the first one is on tuesday and then the second one is sunday august 9th. you don't need a ticket and it's free to get in. the eagles first preseason game, it's august 16th just three weeks from now. beijing china will host the 2022 winter olympics. the international olympic committee made that

this is day four and countering of our heat wave. normal for us this time of year is 87. you can see on tuesday that's when the heat started out across the region with the high of 93. we stayed at 93 wednesday. thursday 91 and so far today in the city coming in at 90 degrees. here's satellite6 along with action radar. really quiet conditions across the region. you can see the showers and storms with that frontal boundary that triggered the activity across our region yesterday. out along the atlantic. it's mostly clear from new england all the way down across the midatlantic region with high pressure staying in control. so the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight it's warm but it's pretty comfortable underneath a moonlit sky. just a touch of humidity overhead. 73 for the overnight low in the city and 63 in allentown along the coast in cape may we'll drop down to 72. you've heard the term once in a blue moon. well, you can catch it later on tonight. it's not exactly blue in color but this is the second full moon this month and this is pretty rare. it only happens once every three years. the next time this will occur

will be in 2018. if you want to check out the moon, you look to the east just after sunset so it is a sight to see but the moon is actually a gray and clear in color, not blue. here's the call from accuweather as we look at future tracker six as we head into our weekend on saturday, 2 o'clock in the afternoon it's mostly clear but there could be a couple showers and thunderstorms that fire up north of the city. the weekend get away, you can see in the city mostly sunny a high of 91. a land breeze at the shore tomorrow and at 88. sunny with an isolated thunderstorm up in the poconos. here is your four day at 4:00. continued heat for sunday with a high temperature of 91 degrees. the peek of the heat on monday and at 94 it's hot and partly sunny as we get into tuesday with a high temperature coming in at 90. so looks like this heat wave is going to continue but the humidity at least for the first weekend of august, guys, will stay in check. >> so, is that why you wore blue today the blue moon tonight? >> i was thinking of that song. >> ♪♪ >> blue moon.

afternoon forecast from accuweather. >> that sounds good all by itself. and the word going into the weekend is comfortable thanks to a break from the humidity. meteorologist melissa magee is live at the big board with more on this. hi melissa. >> hi sharrie and brian. we have the relief, a nice break from the humidity today in comparison to the oppressive conditions we had across our region just yesterday but it's still pretty hot. 90 in the city. 88 in new york city along that 95 corridor down in our nation's capitol, 91 and 90 as well there in richmond, virginia. here is the big change today. we have high pressure well out to our west out across the ohio valley. the winds are coming in from a westerly direction and that helps to drain in drier air across the region so any time you have dewpoint temperatures at 50 degrees or 54 where they currently are in philadelphia, woo he have got a nice and comfortable air mass overhead. 50's up and down that 95 corridor from new york city all the way down to washington, d.c. so we've got the weekend outlook for you. tomorrow's mostly sunny the humidity still stays in check with a high temperature at 91.

humphries and glen ballard of croydon on a lazy day floating down the delaware river with family. >> with the rain and all concerned about the current but it's beautiful. >> when you're looking at it right now it looks pretty calm and it's flat but there's low spots, there's a lot of rocks hidden branches, trees that are under water. >> it's very deceiving the currents. >> reporter: sergeant carl saturday is the field training officer for the new jersey state police marine unit and served 30 years with the coast guard reserves. after a string of recent drownings inn on the river in mid-july he personally recovered three victims in three days he's reminding everyone who uses the delaware for recreation to put on the life jacket. >> life jacket is the most important piece of equipment you'll have. it's the most important piece of equipment to wear. >> i respect the water and even though it doesn't make sense i am -- drowning is always in the back of my mind so when we feel unsafe we make sure that we have our life jackets on. >> they're not very comfortable and we don't always wear them like we should. >> reporter: the sergeant says in many cases people who

are good swimmers or have experience with the river develop a false senses of security or just don't want to put a life vest on. >> they're hot cumbersome, people don't want to wear them, they're uncomfortable but a life jacket is not something you'll think of immediately when you encounter a situation that you need the life jacket. by the time you realize you need the life jacket it's often too late. >> reporter: if a kayak tips or you fall out of a tube or a boat he says even experienced people panic so his recommendation to zip up, strap in and be safe. association have fun but protect yourself and your family. put those live jackets on. live along the delaware river in lambertville, i'm nora muchanic, channel6 "action news." brian. >> allall right, only takes a second to do but so important. nora thanks so much. at sung set tonight the coast guard says it will suspend its search efforts for those two teenaged boys who have been missing now for a week. the 14-year-olds perry cohen and austin stephanos were last seen last friday as they set out on a fishing trip from

florida to the bahamas. their boat was found capsized on sunday. their families say they'll continue a private search even after the coast guard's efforts end. >> a senior citizen was seriously injured when his bicycle collided with another in new castle county this afternoon. it happened near the intersection of kirkwood highway in elsmere. police tell "action news" that the 69-year-old man was unresponsive when rushed to christiana hospital. they haven't released information on the other cyclist's condition or details on what caused this collision. >> philadelphia police still have yet to make an arrest in a deadly high speed crash in the city's bustleton section. yvette gonzalez and sabrina rhodes both 17 years old were killed after they were thrown from a car. a third victim 20-year-old felipe hernandez of medford was found trapped inside the wreckage. two others in the car were hurt including the driver. police say they're still trying to track down a seconde

this is the schuylkill expressway, were you ever our major problems right now. eastbound side not moving from 202 into the conshohocken curve where we're getting reports of an accident. clearly there's something up ahead because this traffic is not getting anywhere. want to stick with 23 conshohocken state road, even 30 lancaster or stay on ridge pike instead. the eastbound schuylkill through the conshohocken area this afternoon. farther east we have that crash by south street. that's gone but still a local line from city avenue on in. now there's a wreck on 95 northbound by the walt whitman bridge. extra problematic with people trying to get across the bridge to get to the shore. crash is on the shoulder but you're looking at speeds in the teens coming north side of the airport and in camden watch out for a wreck along 676 southbound at collings avenue. you don't want to head for 295 northbound in gloucester county. all lanes blocked past thorofare because of an accident. single digits speeds there. use kings highway locally or the northbound new jersey turnpike through gloucester county. but in burlington county on the jersey turnpike southbound exit four route 73 there's an overturned truck blocking

storms across our region yesterday. that cold front along the midatlantic. it's mostly clear and quiet from new england down across the midatlantic westward through the ohio valley. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight a touch of humidity overhead. we'll drop down to 63 in the suburbs and 73 in philadelphia with that west-southwesterly wind. over the weekend yeah it's going to be a hot one but not so humid especially for the first day of august come tomorrow. you have this high pressure, this heat pump overhead so we're tapping into those westerly winds so it will be hot with that moisture and the winds down sloping east of the appalachians, it compresses and warm at the surface. high temps will be in the 90's, it's sunny and dry. it's not until this high shifts to our east on the western periphery of that high that you will tap into that humidity and that's not occurring until we get into the start of next week. so if you're traveling up north of the city in the poconos we've got a good big race weekend going on. saturday is the truck series. high temperature 80 degrees with an isolated thunderstorm
