>> always wanted to be here and fight. you know i think that's kind of what, you know, the motto has always been is the fightan phils. >> but cole hamels has fought his last fight in a phillies uniform and today he said goodbye. he left citizens bank park with his two young boys to start a new chapter in his career in texas. it is friday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is the trade of cole hamels to the texas rangers. it finally became official today and it gave hamels a chance to say goodbye to his fans. sports director ducis rodgers is live at citizens bank park tonight. ducis, what was it like there today? >> kind of surreal, jim, to be honest with you. we knew this day would come eventually but nobody wanted it to actually happen. think about this. cole hamels was 18 when he was drafted by this team he made his major league debut at 22 so this team, this city is all he's known for his adult life. hamels and his family swung by the stadium earlier today before he boarded a flight for at this will he start for the

rangers if you can believe it tomorrow in their game against the san francisco giants. hamels had a great run with the phillies. a world series title a world series m.v.p. and 114 victories along the way. he may be a ranger now but philadelphia will always hold a special place in his heart. >> this was a huge, huge part of who i. and what i've become. this is, you know, it's a number one opportunity that i've been able to be given in playing baseball and especially to play for, you know the historical city of philadelphia. you know, some of the best memories i've ever had. >> i listened to a lot things about cole hamels and people talk about him being a prima donna and all this other business hollywood hamels. i will tell you this. we've had some very, very competitive players play here in philadelphia. i would put him up against any competitor we've had or any

"action news" reporter chad pradelli is live in the 3000 block of aramingo avenue in port richmond. chad, a man was seen running from the house. what do police know at this

time. >> reporter: well, jim, it's still early in the investigation at this point police do not know motive but they do have some ideas. now, behind me are some mementoes left behind by family and friends. you see balloons teddy bears and lit can developments the murder of 22-year-old stephanie dzikowski has left this port richmond neighborhood with heavy hearts. the young mother's boyfriend found her around 11:00 last night in an upstairs bedroom. he ran to neighbor marie larkins' house. >> he said somebody killed stephanie. and i was like what are you talking about, calm down. he was on the phone with the police at the same time. >> reporter: larkins ran into the crime scene. what she saw next she'll never forget. dzikowski was on the floor in the fetal position. she suffered a single gun shot to the head. >> i got scared first. and then i got this knot this sick feeling in my stomach and it was just like nothing but blood. >> reporter: neighbors say a manana gray hoodie was seen running from the scene down aramingo.

this is surveillance video obtained by "action news" that may have captured him. neighbors and police say he was riding a bike near the home earlier in the day. the hoodie seemed odd with temps in the 90's. >> right now it doesn't seem like this is any type of random home invasion or anything like that. seems like this particular home at least was targeted. but again, homicide is going the look into every aspect of this. >> reporter: dzikowski worked in a dental office. relatives say she was doting mother who had no enemies. they now worry about the little girl left without a mother. >> how could this happen? she's never -- she never did anything. she had everything going for her. >> reporter: and police have no suspects. a vigil will be held here tonight around 8 p.m. i'm live in port richmond, clad pradelli channel6 "action news. jim. >> all right, chad, thank you. today some people were a wakened by a gun battle that left their neighborhood riddled with bullets. a number of homes and cars were struck at 2:30 this morning. this was the 300 block of east

rock lands street in feltonville. police say damp indicates there was a shootout because bullets were coming from all directions. some of them spilled into one house where man was asleep with his family. >> like pop-pop. so, i sent my girlfriend to just stay down and then we heard like about another six or seven shots pop pop pop pop. >> police have assigned a special unit to investigate this case. six people have been charged in a theft ring that netted more than $800,000 worth of jewelry. these are the people charged in operation pandora. their alleged crime spree began in robbinsville in mercer county in 2013. police say they robbed tindal diamonds. prosecutors say they went on to commit 19 other crimes across new jersey, pennsylvania, illinois virginia and rhode island. four of the suspects are now in custody.

police are still looking for angie rodriguez and juan ramirez both from new york city. authorities have that issued a safety reminder after a string of recent drownings along the delaware river. the new jersey state police marine unit wants boaters tubers swimmers and kayakers to wear their life jackets. they say in many cases people who are good swimmers develop a false sense of security and don't bother with a life vest. >> they're hot they're cumbersome people don't want to wear them they're uncomfortable but a life jacket is not something you're going to think of immediately when you encounter situation when you need the life jacket. by the time you realize you need the life jacket it's often too late. >> the sergeant says he personally recovered three victims in three days this month from the delaware river. >> ♪♪ with all the people coming to philadelphia for the world meeting of families and the visit by the pope, there's going to be an enormous demand for places to stay. it might be possible for you to rent out your house or apartment.

but there are many things to consider before you do. "action news" reporter john rawlins has been studying up on the papal rental market. john, what's the deal on this? >> reporter: well, there's still a lot of offerings out there jim online though some folks think maybe the demand was not as great as first predicted. whatever the case there's other that think this is easy money that you can make hundreds maybe thousands but there's also potential down sides as well. >> i rented on air b and b how much money do you think i could get. >> reporter: it's tempting. you'll be out of town during the papal weekend. why not rent your empty home? but before committing online to being a papal visit landlord consider if you're a renter does your landlord allow subleasing? many don't. even if you own a condo you may be surprised. chuck homer works for a firm that manages condos just blocks from the art museum. he checks online posts like this. >> it says take over specifically. >> reporter: he's looking for offerings in his building. when he does he tells owners

to cease and desist. such rentals violate condo rooms for a number of concern. one concern you think a couple is renting. >> they put air mattresses in the living room pull out sofa and you have eight people, six people, in a one bedroom unit. >> reporter: bad things can happen. you're looking at $75,000 worth of damage to that a canadian home over a weekend instead of four adults a party bus drove up. rare, yes, but even if you can legally rent out your home, attorney jeffrey beard cautions protect yourself way written contract even far a short rental. >> a strong rental agreement i would liken it to some kind of vacation agreement f you're renting in the poconos something similar. >> reporter: with a security deposit for possible damage to your home. >> and there should be some process in your rental agreement that says i can use your security if xy occurs. >> reporter: if you're not a pro, if you haven't done this kind of rental before renting out your own house you would probably be well advised to talk to a lawyer at the very least your insurance agent or

>> one person was killed this morning when three cars collided in bucks county. shopper six was over the intersection of allentown road and route 663 in milford township at 7 o'clock. and it was a mess. pennsylvania state police have not released the name of the person who was killed. here is new video of two men accused of using a stolen credit card to withdraw someone else's cash. this pair allegedly took a police and fire federal credit union card from an 18-year-old and used it at several atm's around philadelphia. investigators are still trying to identify the suspects. they may be driving a white lexus suv. this may be the last day of july but on eakins oval it

oval into a pop up park bringing thousands of people into the oval for friday fun. food and blitz night featuring food and beer gardens. >> it's a wonderful way for people to get out and meet other people meet new friends, enjoy activities they wouldn't normally experience and just enjoy being outdoors here in philly in the summer. >> i love all these pop-ups. there's always something going on. it's fun and a good way to build community. >> reporter: for the novice synthetic ice skate area little ice. >> a lot like roller-blading. you have to stand up be confident you're going to go forward and not down. >> reporter: confidence is the key she says. now if you're not into ice skating there's plenty of other stuff to do. santa claus is going to be here and the featured movie el starts slowing at 9 o'clock. if you want to try your handled at ice skating maybe you can make it all the way around. the rink basketball hoped until 9 o'clock and friday and saturday until 7:00.

>> ducis rodgers is live at citizens bank park where for the first time in a decade ducis the roster does not include cole hamels. >> jim, he is gone, that is a reality right now. it took a couple days to get this trade done but it went official around noon today and that officially brings an tend to cole hamels career here in philadelphia. these pictures will be a lasting image, cole hamels leaving the stadium with his bags packed. he's due to arrive in texas this evening and kick believe it he'll pitch for the rangers tomorrow again the san francisco giants. ruben amaro jr. called hamels "a competitor." he certainly was.

>> it's been a fun ride. it's been a great ride playing for the philadelphia phillies. i've had my ups and downs for the past three seasons but you know it's -- i think it's been great. the fans, the coaches my teammates, everybody people i met here, the community it's just been all great. >> the phillies that remain will take on the braves tonight at 7:05. before the game at 6:30 a big honor for team member of the 2008 world series team, pat burrell will be inducted into the phillies wall of pavement he will be the first player from that championship team to get that honor. pat the bat can now be considered one of the all time greats in franchise history. >> i was here for a long time and every year they're putting somebody in that wall of fame, steve carleton, mike schmidt and you just never think you're in the same group with some of these guys.

>> lower humidity, lower dewpoints. it was comfortable out there today. >> it really was nice today jim and that trend will continue as we head into the weekend but the heat is staying put we'll talk about it all. storm tracker6 live double scan showing ugg it's dry and quiet with high pressure in control. we'll show you the picture outside. the action cam was outside earlier today down at the shore in ocean city new jersey. a lot of people just enjoying a really comfortable afternoon with a bright blue sky overhead. with their beach umbrellas and feet tucked in the sand as well. talk about some of the highlights today and as we head into our weekend the heat wave will continue but the good news it will stay less humid as we get into saturday and sunday. day four and countering of heat wave number three for our summer season. it started out on tuesday with a high of 93. we held at 93 midweek. yesterday's high 91 and today in the city maxing out at

90 degrees. less humid however. when you look at the dewpoints this is the big difference today in comparison to yesterday. any time you have dewpoint numbers at 60 degrees or below, we've got a pretty comfortable air mass overhead especially with those westerly winds. so it's 54 degrees as far as that dewpoint is concerned here in the city. and you can definitely feel the difference overhead. currently outside it's 89 in the city. 80 in the poconos. 86 in reading. 85 in allentown the lehigh valley. along the coast not bad. 82 in beach haven. 84 in wildwood. when you look at the water vapor imagery, this is what we have overhead and this is an indication of moisture in the atmosphere and you can see the yellows or the gold tint here from new england back across the midatlantic and the ohio valley. we've got dry conditions overhead. compare that to the green with the showers and storms and the humidity firing up just to our south and east. the humidity stays in check and for the most part, to our south and east for a if chunk of our weekend. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight it's the

moonlit sky a touch of humidity overhead but still nothing you unbearable for the end of july. 73 in the city for the overnight low, 63 in allentown and 72 in cape may. in fact we've got some pretty nice viewing conditions to check out the blue moon. not so much because it's blue in color but because of the rarity of the event. you've heard the term once in a blue moon. well it's happening for the second time this mon it only occurs every few years. so, the next time this will take place will be 2018. once the sun sets just look to the east and check out the blue moon. it's hot over the weekend but not too humid with high pressure in control with this bubble of high just sitting across the region so highs both saturday and sunday will be in the 90's. you have those westerly winds that down east of the appalachians it compresses and warms that air at the surface so it's sunny but it will be staying dry as we head into the weekend. good weekend if you're north of the city up in the poconos nascar weekend 80 on saturday,

80 and mostly sunny as we get into sunday. and down the shore no complaints. 73 degrees but as you head other beach and on the sand a bit of a land breeze over the weekend. heights will be in the upper 80's. here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. it's hot tomorrow. not too bad though and at 91. 91 on sunday the peek of the heat on monday with a high up to 94 degrees. a shower or thunderstorm is possible then. same thing on tuesday but we'll knock the temperature down to 90. then the heat wave finally comes to an end jim as we get into next wednesday. >> thank you melissa. >> yes. >> finally tonight one of philadelphia's oldest public spaces has reason to celebrate tonight. it has been nine years since franklin square was revamped with family friendly attractions. today's birthday party included an appearance by ben franklin. he and some young helpers gifted the square with a willow tree which is a common symbol for a ninth anniversary. partygoers also dined on some free birthday cake. abc's world news with david
