what about the condition of the girl and what about the search for the driver? >> reporter: jim, first the little girl karley green's family tells me she's stable and her situation is improving tonight. as for the suspect police sources tell me they do have some leads but he remains free and on the lam and at large at this hour. five-year-old karley green is due to be released from saint christopher's hospital late today in the wake of a hit and run accident on lambert street late yesterday afternoon that missed killing her by inches. police are still looking for the hit and run driver. the child was visiting on lambert with her cousins a number of youngsters were playing out in the street when karley was hit by a light colored suv. karley's mother tells me she's making a miraculous recover 43 a concussion and various cuts and bruises. >> she doesn't really remember too much of what happened. in the beginning she was still kind of incoherent blurting out random things. now she's fully aware what's going on. she knows she was in an accident. >> reporter: karley's family has nothing but praise for the

than 20,000 people in support of a fired catholic schoolteacher. margie winters lost her job in merion station because of her same-sex marriage. today's petition is asking archbishop charles chaput not to get involved with staffing decisions at catholic schools. winters also had this request. >> we asked for full inclusion at the table and in the church. and we ask now for a moratorium on firing any lgbt employee. >> the archdiocese responded today saying waldron mercy does not fall under its administrative reach because it is a private catholic school. however, it reiterated that archbishop chaput does support the decision to fire winters. police in westminster county have released a sketch of a home invasion suspect. lawmakers say he beat and robbed an elderly homeowner on

"action news" reporter annie mccormick is live in west vincent township tonight. annie, what's the latest here. >> reporter: jim the police chief here says they haven't had a home invasion in more than a decade in this area of chester county. he says in this case the suspect made off with cash jewelry a laptop and also prescription medication. he also says that suspect repeatedly beat the victim who is in his 80's. this is a sketch west vincent township police want the public to z they believe this man is responsible for the home invasion that left an 81-year-old korean war veteran seriously battered and bruised. the suspect said he worked for the water company. >> he asked the elderly male if he had a water problem. the elderly male said no he did not have a water problem and at that point the white male suspect forced his way into the home. >> reporter: it happened on bert left lane school road in a quiet section just after 7:00 p.m. on sunday july 26th. >> he said where is the money at? that that point the elderly male then showed him and pointed to him where the

money was and he said if you call the police, i will shoot you. >> reporter: police say he was unarmed but the threats were serious. after beating the victim he tied him to his bed. police are hoping that someone saw something. >> he is described as a white male in his 30's with an average build. at the time of the crime he was wearing a dark blue or black baseball cap dark clothing dark shirt dark pants and dark views and that's pretty much all we have to go off of in in. >> reporter: there was a white station wagon seen in the area at the time of the crime possibly a subaru. police have been checking surrounding townships to see if there's reports of any people posing as water utility workers or if there have been any recent home invasions. they haven't seen anybody file any of those reports. if you have any information you're urged to contact police. head to our web site 6abc.com to find the west vincent township police just contact information. for now we're live in west vincent township, annie

mccormack channel6 "action news. >> police identified a woman who died in a crash in lower makefield bucks county. 20-year-old natasha belot of bloomfield new jersey was a passenger in a jeep that overturned off the northbound lanes. state police say the jeep had just passed another vehicle at high speed. she and some friends were traveling home if an american idol audition at temple university. five other people were hurt including the 17-year-old girl who was driving. septa's lottery for special papal passes opened today. you can sign up until 11:59 tonight. you must enter to have a chance at getting regional rail passes for september 26th and 27th. septa is selling a total of 350,000 passes for both days. the winners will be selected at random through an online database and notified by e-mail on thursday. you can find a link to the to enter on our web site

6abc.com. there's some light at the end of the heat wave tunnel. it won't be tomorrow. live at the "action news" big board is meteorologist cecily tynan. cecily, you've got the story from accuweather. >> jim we've had a full week now of heat. today 93 degrees. the seventh day of heat wave number three. the average high for this time of the year is 87 degrees. and even now it's still 90 degrees in philadelphia. little bit cooler in allentown and reading, 85 degrees. millville 88. wilmington 87. and with that sea breeze at the shore a lot cooler on the beaches, temperatures there in the 80's. however, with that sea breeze, you also get higher humidity at the shore with dewpoints in the 70's but inland generally we're looking at dewpoints in the low to mid 60's. so, it's just slightly humid. the humidity is not oppressive. but it's higher than over the weekend and tomorrow will be another hot and humid day. but satellite6 along with action radar showing what will end our heat wave. it's a cold front across the great lakes. that will be moving through tomorrow and as it does, it could touch off a few

head out. philadelphia police are trying to track down the bandit who has been installing atm skimming devices in center city and olde city. and now there's a lot of cash for anybody who can provide information that leads to an arrest and conviction. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live at the major crimes division in west philadelphia. chad. >> reporter: jim, we're actually across the street from major crimes and investigators there tell us that the skimming devices look so real it's tough for people to tell the difference. they'll put the skimmer right here on the face of the card in slot and it will be the same color but they'll put a camera up here which will shoot down and watch you put your pin number in. once they have all that information, they go to work stealing your cash. philadelphia police say this is the man who has been placing skimming devices on center city atm's during the past month. investigators say he put a skimmer and a camera on this 7-eleven atm on the 800 block

of walnut not once but twice in mid-july. each time he likely left it there for a day or two before retrieving the skimmer and the valuable information he captured from people's debit and credit cards. >> you would be surprised at the number of people who use atm machines now within a two day period 600 to a thousand people use 1atm machine. >> reporter: captain rowland lee of major crime says criminals are using skimmer devices to steal money and charge goods. the suspect is also wanted for installing the device on the 200 block of market and may be responsible for several crimes in montgomery county. >> any time you use the atm machine myself i give eight little jiggle. i know it's being a little paranoid but i give eight little jiggle to make sure it's legitimate. >> reporter: and police say when you are putting your pin number in you should use your other hand to cover up your other finger when you're touching the numbers so if there is a camera it won't see what your pin number s now

>> a 29-year-old man is in police custody tonight for allegedly slashing tires on a south philadelphia street. it happened about 1:15 this morning along the 1000 block of ellsworth. officers spotted a man fitting the suspect's description at broad and carpenter. they say he was armed with a knife and some of the victims say they just can't believe this happened. >> to get into my car to go to work and saw that my one tire was slashed along with a lot of tires on the street. >> a total of nine cars were vandalized this morning. police have arrested five people. they're looking for three others in a home rental scam with victims across the united states. verna nowell and ronald miles what arrested last week. chase madden ronald miles senior and shirley watson were arrested today. they ran a scheme out of smyrna delaware. they allegedly paid people in

running back. our jeff skversky joins us live from south philadelphia with the latest on demarco murray. jeff. >> hey, ducis. chip kelly completely blew up this roster. 10 and six in his minds was not good enough. he did not think they were capable of winning playoff games so there are nine new starters, five on offense and one of the best running backs in all of football is now a philadelphia eagle. let's take a look. new eagles pro bowl running back demarco murray for the eagles trying to replace the eagles all time leading rusher lesean mccoy. murray who led the nfl in rushing last year is trying to learn this new offense in a new city. his first four years in the league were on the other side of the heated rivalry playing for the hated cowboys. now he's an eagle but does he feel at home here in philadelphia yet? >> i do. i definitely do. i've been here for a couple months and become part of this team and great team, great group of guys, great group of coaches and great organization so like i said i definitely

it's a warm evening. pottstown 82. fleetwood though a rain cooled 78 degrees and levittown currently 88 degrees. center city and chester 87 and south jersey hammonton 86, vineland 88. sea isle city with that sea breeze 80 degrees and smyrna delaware 85. satellite six showing the cold front that will bring an end to the heat wave that's currently hack i don't say the great lakes. this will be moving through tomorrow and what this will do is finally trop the drop the heat and humidity by the middle of the week. 75 degrees tonight in philadelphia, 66 in allentown 74 in cape may with a possibility of some thunderstorms and future tracker showing actually some strong storms rolling through in the wee hours of the morning showing a good cluster right now around 1:30 in the morning of some gusty thunderstorms with heavy downpours. could have another batch moving through for the beginning of the morning commute and then the sunshine is back by the afternoon and it's another hot day.

90 degrees tomorrow with again a few thunderstorms mainly east as that cold front rolls through. behind that front on wednesday we get a breath of fresh air. sun mixing with clouds. it will be seasonably warm, 88 degrees. much lower humidity. but this cold front will stall south of us a wave of lope develops along that and what this will do is bring us the threat of some heavy rain thursday night into friday. along with it, much cooler temperatures. if you're down the shore tomorrow morning clouds, afternoon sunshine. it will be a warm day. atlantic city 87. ocean city 88 and the beaches in delaware should touch 90 degrees tomorrow afternoon. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast hot and humid tomorrow 90 degrees. we hit that. that is day eight of our heat wave. on wednesday slightly cooler, lower humidity, feeling better 88 degrees. on thursday, a cool day, the high only 80. clouds roll in with rain developing especially late in the day and friday looks to be a cloudy, cool and wet day
