major closures are causing major headaches for a lot of people that live and work in center city. >> folks should start thinking ahead and making plans now because this event will impact the every day life of our city and our city government. >> reporter: all of centser city and west philadelphia will be closed off to vehicular traffic, spring garden up to girard and down the schuylkill river to south street and the delaware river, universe city is closed to powellton avenue to the north down university to grays ferry on the western and southern boundaries, the closures begin 6:00 p.m. friday anyone that has a vehicle within the boxes can drive out but you won't be able to get back in until monday morning but you'll be able to drive anywhere within the box, septa trolleys and buses will not be operating within the

boxes and the schuylkill expressway i-76 is closed eastbound the blue route to i-95, be westbound 76 will be closed from i-95 to route 1, the vine expressway, 676 will be closed in both directions riff to river and the ben franklin bridge is closed until noon monday. and in addition route 1 is closed from belmont avenue to ridge avenue because the pope is staying at the seminary in that area. as for the boxes, bicycles and pedestrians, will be able to move around in the boxes but it's not clear yet if there will be taxi service within the boxes, that has not been decided yet, only one bright spot, i-95 will not be closed despite speculation that it would. sharrie? >> i'm sure drivers can take any

bright spot. >> lets switch now to "action news" reporter, annie mccormick live on the steps of art museum for reaction to these closures. >> reporter: the art museum is probably the neighborhood that will have the best view when the pope is here in town the mayor said we are opening the city to the world and with that comes restrictions but he is asking for people to embrace that. residents are learning more about where they can and cannot go during the papal weekend when 1.5 million pilgrims are expected. >> i'm excited for people to come here and see what philly has to offer. penndot closes 76, i-676 and route 1 will be open using selective ramps, the ben franklin bridge will be shut down until monat noon.

troubled or violent behavior but quite the opposite, some that know him think he snapped but they don't know why. >> last night inside of his own home, allen goodrich, a retired neshaminy school teacher was killed. >> he was arraigned at midnight, charged was his 26-year-old son eli, it was their mother june that said the stabbing was intentional. she heard eli tell allen, you are not going to control my mind anymore and i have to kill you, he told his mother i love you and heard her husband say from a nearby room, you are going to kill me and june goodrich when into the room and she observed allen with a sword protruding from his stomach and he said don't worry mom it's a fake

a dart bus and an suv collided in wilmington, this is the scene shortly before 11:00 at 11thth north walnut, rescue crews had to rescue the driver of that suv. several people were taken to the hospital including the suv driver, all the injuries are non-life-threatening. old city is in for a new look tlrk is plans for an upscale high rise apartment, going up next to ray street at the ben franklin bridge, that has long been a vacant lot and this long awaited project is finally off the ground. >> there is nothing like this building in philadelphia, philadelphia's old city is getting a new neighbor. a ground breaking ceremony was held today for new apartment building known as the bridge project. at the corner of second and ray street, it's just a stones throw away from the delaware river

front, the project started 14 years ago in 2001 but it hit some snags. >> we started designs and ran into opposition and ran into a recession, and it took about five years and then we started to enjoy a tremendous resurgence of philadelphia. >> that resurgence started with the ray street pier a peer under the ben franklin bridge and then came along this new construction building at ray and columbus boulevard and now the bridge, city leaders hope it will connect old city to the waterfront, 17 stories high it includes parking for cars and bicycles and a gym and 24 hour concierge, the look is breathtaking and fresh. >> this design has evolved overtime but i think it reflects the best of what we can do in this city.

looks like in the last 30 seconds they got two of the left lanes open headed northbound and they have the right lane blocked here at cotman avenue, as you can imagine, and as evidenced by the travel time, the whole way is a parking lot to cotman avenue, but it looked like that truck was leaving, as we watch live along 95, progress there but a big delay. a big crash in hill top township, involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian, at apple wood drive, diamond would be a better bet. a wreck along 113 and one at the heart of landsdale at hancock at broad street. and elsewhere a crash that cleared along route 1 in buck county, near route 13 and then a second one in the backlog, you can see the backlog here is still pretty heavy because of two earlier accidents. we'll check this again monica and sharrie in the next half

officials have announced major closures and retail hospitals have made some plans, now ali gorman is here at the big board to explain this. >> reporter: plans have been in the works for a while and the health system of pennsylvania started working on preparations ever since they learned there was a possibility that the pope could visit. i met up with mark ross the reeceal manager for emergency preparedness, they say they train every month for large scale events and moneys. amtrak's train derailment in may was an example of agencies working together as millions of people come to the parkway for the pope's visit, ross says preparations are underway to make sure things run smoothly.

>> we are looking to make sure we have enough supplies and this way we are there to take care of patients that do present to our hospitals. >> and some hospitals may bring in staff before the weekend and they are in place so they don't have to travel through the clouds, and they are not scheduling elective surgeries around the weekend and they work closely with emergency medical crews and the idea is to make sure everyone is on the same page, they are confident that they will be. ali thank you. >> mississippi investigators are questioning a person of interesting, after someone repeatedly fired shots for a second consecutive day, soldiers training at the cap kamp reported shots fired into the air the same area where soldiers reported gunshots fired from a

not hit 90 in philadelphia but the heat wave has been broken but the official number has not yet come in and we'll know in the next half hour. you can feel the difference out there with the drop in humidity, a lot of folks flocking to the shore and it's packed in atlantic city with a westerly wind, speaking of the winds they are coming in from the west northwesterly direction everywhere with speeds of 15 miles per hour. and a land breeze at the shore, temperatures from cape may to beach haven to inland are fairly similar. 88 at the atlantic city airport and the same for millville and near 90 in dover and philadelphia the high so far today 88 degrees and north and west only in the low 80s, satellite and radar high pressure is in control and high clouds to the north and they will fade when we lose the sunshine, that bubbles them up during the day but as we look to

the west there is low pressure to the west of st. louis, the warm front stretching its legs through ohio and the tennessee valley and this is moving due east and will scrape our viewing area with some rain for the end of the week, sunshine is in control at 9:00 and as we get into the afternoon, the rain is backing out the low pressure to the south and clouds start to filter in from the south and west and make our way through the region by late tomorrow afternoon, and tomorrow evening and early on friday, the low is to the south and this is the best area of seeing rain is the jersey shore as well as the delaware beaches and as far north as philadelphia, but most of southeastern pennsylvania, is cloudy on friday missing out on that southern rain as it is looking right now, partly cloudy tonight and comfortable, 67 philadelphia and at the shore 63 and 66 degrees and the five-day at 5:00 forecast, sun giving way to clouds at 84 degrees, a lot

plus, one security company is looking to hire dozens of people ahead of pope francis's visit to philadelphia ain call to justice demands from several advocacy groups to philadelphia police in the wake of a deadly traffic stop late last year. and now a major break in the mystery of malaysia air flight 370, over a year ago the jet disappeared over the indian ocean and now officials have confirmed that a wing that washed up is part of the wreckage. >> reporter: sharrie and monica, officials say they still expect to find more teb rebut for now based on that one piece

days and counting from pope francis's historic visit to philadelphia and we got our first look at how tough the traffic situation is that weekend. the city will effectively shut down for drivers, all streets on your screen including all of center city, and september 25th at 6:00 p.m., the closures will extend west of the schuylkill river the same night starting at 10:00 p.m., and closures will also effect the schuylkill and the vine and the ben franklin bridge, and we'll have team coverage breaking it all down for you coming up at 6:00. meantime, and the security company is now hiring in anticipation of the pope's visit, this morning they held a special job fair in hopes of finding help for crowd control, katherine scott talked to job seekers hoping to lan a position. >> i have been looking for a job for a long time. >> this could be the opportunity

that jasmine taylor is looking for. with millions of people expected for the world meeting of families, they need security and today u.s. security associates is hiring. >> the pope is coming and millions of people will be around and the urgency to have the best out there. they hosted the event at the career link center and hundreds applied. these candidates will help with crowd control, these are three week full-time positions that pay between 8,000 and $10,000 an hour. these security positions will be made available as a result of the increased traffic that is expected for the papal visit. >> they have to be on time and know the rules and be able to communicate with crowds of people, many of whom have never been to the city before. this could be a foot in the door

from our new jersey newsroom, a man is arrested in colorado for shipping gummy bears laced with lsd to the garden state. tray brasher was taken into custody and will be extradited to new jersey. police need your help finding a man that stole 6,000 there's worth of appliances from a home, it happened at 3:15 in the morning and surveillance video shows the man in the back of the house and police say he forced open a window and stole several appliances from the home. if you recognize this man call philadelphia police. this afternoon in philadelphia, the naacp held a press conference calling for justice in the brandon tate brown case, police fatally shot the man and police say it happened when tate resisted

arrest. they were cleared of wrong doing but today the naacp gathered at the 1600 block of tate avenue where brown was shot. and they called for the officers and an independent investigation by the departments of justice and attorney general. >> when have you sworn officers who lied and basically purgered themselves, this case should be reopened and re-examined and people need to be taken off the streets until we come to the bottom of this. >> the d.a. will not reopen the case for these philadelphia police officers, especially the ones that shot and killed brandon tate brown. and now the update on the evening commute.

>> not many. >> they are suffering from habitat loss and poaching, and these guys are beautiful and they want them for medicinal or trophy reasons. >> so sad. >> very. >> we have one here his twin brother is roaming around and they are pretty young, these guys are baby, howl are they. >> they just turned 3 years old and they have dinner birthdays, he was born on the 28th and wiz after midnight so technically the 29 and. >> they are built for cold weather. >> they can top out at 600 pounds and our boys are 400 pounds right now, they would be all fat and bluber and a much thicker coat. >> obviously they don't just eat milk what is their diet like?
