two suspects walked through the back door of the bakery you see there encountered the victim, there was a struggle. one of the suspects fired a shot hitting that victim in the neck. that bullet went through her airway and lodged near her spine and right now she remains in critical condition at a local hospital. the shooting has gripped this overbrook neighborhood. >> we're scared. we scared. it's scary. friendly, neighbor, friend. >> we have she needs we are there for her and we are there for her every day as we are anybody in our community that needs anything. >> reporter: investigators say this is the second crime at the best cake bakery during the past week. last friday, there was an attempted robbery but she fought off the would be thieves and police believe today's armed robbery was planned. >> understanding from week that she pays her employees on friday so this is why they targeted her on friday so it clearly was a setup robbery as far as we're concerned.

>> reporter: police say the suspects took her apron. she kept her cash inside it instead of the register. friends and neighbors say she is a kind soul who gives people second chances and always thinks of those in need. >> she's a wonderful lady. i've bought cup cakes from her for my children's birthday parties. she's donated -- i've seen her feed homeless people around here. been here for years. wonderful lady it's a shame. >> reporter: and police right now have no suspects. they have been working to get some surveillance video but so far have had no luck. i'm live in overbrook, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, chad. the new jersey turnpike has reopened in cherry hill after a brief shutdown this afternoon. authorities say just before noon, a contractor struck a pse&g gas line at a nearby demolition site on woodcrest road. officials closed the turnpike between interchanges three and four as crews capped the line and secured the scene.

the turnpike reopened about an hour later. high levels of carbon monoxide forced evacuations at an assisted living facility in hockessin delaware. it happened at 8:30 at the coax bury assisted living facility on the 700 block of loveville road. firefighters say the problem was caused by a boil they are backfired. five residents were taken to the hospital as a precaution. everybody else was let back into the building at 3 o'clock. pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane is expected to surrender tomorrow. kane is facing criminal charges. prosecutors say she leaked information about a grand jury investigation and allegedly lied about her actions under oath. sources tell "action news" that kane will turn herself in tomorrow for an arraignment in montgomery county. kane said she intends to defend herself and remain in office. only "action news" was there as the bicycle belonging

to an 11-year-old boy found dead in delaware county earlier this week was recovered by police. laquan lattimore's body was found in the darby creek on monday. his bicycle was found today in glenolden. lattimore's backpack was also found at a. investigators don't suspect foul play. they say he drowned. there are so many issues to think about in preparation for the pope's visit in september and in this day and age, expanding cell service in the area of the parkway is certainly one of them. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live along the parkway tonight. john, we have been saying about a million and a half people are come to the parkway. that means a million and a half smartphones as well. >> reporter: think about it, jim, when they start texting and tweeting and skyping and posting videos en masse it's going to stress the system that we've all come to rely on more and more. for instance, the live picture you're looking at right now doesn't get back to channel

six by satellite. instead, it uses a device here in the "action news" van right here that is connected through multiple connections to the cellular system. near logan square justin was using his phone today. >> checking e-mail and making a phone call, yeah. no issues. >> reporter: no problems because there was only a routine number of cell phone users along the parkway. but during the papal visit a million plus people could crowd this space at the same time. >> using their smartphones and or tablets and whether they want to share the event on social media or texting or phone calls, this is a challenge. >> reporter: the concern, the demand could overwell existing towers. part of the solution an upgrade including three dozen small towers like this one being installed across from the library. both verizon and at&t say they have studied usage at past mass events from new year's at times square to welcome america. >> what we did was project that usage into what we knew

or what we could assume was going to happen on the parkway next month. >> reporter: the goal, to quadruple existing capacity in parts of center city. the price tag $47 million. such costs not a factor the last time such crowds gathered here during the 1979 visit of pope john paul ii. cell phones were still experimental. 36 years later, they are everywhere. >> it is our expectation that when you press send, that call or that data session is going to go through. >> reporter: the intent to provide full cellular service during the visit unlike the pope's january visit to the philippines. there service was reportedly switched off at times because of government fears a signal could trigger an explosive device. they were testing some of the new towers today. they also planned to bring in some temporary towers that are affectionately known as cows short for cell o wheels.

the goal is to provide service for however many people ends up showing up. it will be a big crowd we know that. live on the art museum steps, john rawlins channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, john. septa will hold another online lottery for special transit passes during the pope's visit. this time three day passes for trolley routes 101 and 102 and the norristown hig high speedli. they will be up for grabs much the lottery opens at 12:01 a.m. on wednesday august 12 and and closes at 11:59 p.m. that night. riders must select one of six stations opened on saturday september 26th through monday the 28th. they are the springfield mall and leamy avenue for the route 101 trolley, north street and clifton-aldan station for the route 102 to lean the gulf mills and villanova stations for the norristown high speedline. other transit issues here. county tonight. david, what's the expected impact on that suburban community? >> reporter: jim, the potential is huge and that is why they are getting ready. radnor township is bracing for double trouble. this is the only location that has not one but two septa stations that will be used by people going in to see the pope. >> the the word to the motoring public is have patience much everybody is going the need to have patience throughout this week coming and going. >> reporter: 10,000 people will be coming and going from the radnor train station both saturday and sunday. compare that with the 600 passengers a day during the average work week. and thousands will also be using the villanova stop on the norristown high speedline. the stations are just a mile apart and traffic and parking will be a hassle. >> essentially it's to mitigate the traffic that will be coming into the township to get to those people to the train stations in a very safe and efficient manner. >> reporter: villanova

university is canceling classes on friday the 25th and saturday the 26th. that will open up the huge parking lot along lancaster avenue for people headed to see the pope. parking will be much tighter around the paoli train station in tredyffrin township. the only other stop in the western suburbs. merchants worry about the congestion. >> i know it's going to be a little crazy and chaotic but i feel like they have total control over who is going to be coming in and out, making sure it's patrons versus people just trying to park here. >> reporter: tredyffrin township police are still working on the parking logistics. they would like you to hitch a ride to the station, if you can. >> and we'll have a pattern set up where they can very systemically come in, drop someone off and kind of be on their way. >> reporter: it will be all hands-on deck for police in both townships. >> i plan to literally be living here for about three or four days. my command staff will be doing that as well and so will my

the festival tonight. musikfest runs through august 16th. 6abc is the media sponsor for the tenth straight year and as you can see, the crowds are building at musikfest. a bucks county world war ii veteran received one of the nation's highest honors today 70 years in the making. 90-year-old robert patterson was awarded the bronze star along with nine other medals that happened at horsham council chambers today. patterson fought in the battle of the bulge. he was discharged after the war without receiving the medals he earned. his daughter-in-law lobbied senator pat toomey who in turn lobbied the army and the bronze star is the military's fifth highest combat decoration. schools are already getting ready to welcome back their students later this month. and a number of programs are helping kids get ready, too. he have have a pilgrim has that story.

>> reporter: kids lined up in hunting park to celebrate all things back to school. >> i'm looking forward to most the games. >> you can play. i like being here. >> reporter: the special needs program at saint christopher's hospital for children hosted its fifth annual back to school carnival across street from the hospital at lighthouse field. the fun was for the entire community. there were games to play, things to learn and both fun foods like cotton candy and healthy food like watermelon. >> the kids there we serve and have the privilege of working with. it's one of the highlights of their summer and for us it's really fun, also, to be having fun with them. >> reporter: the hospital and its partners gave away about 3,000 book bags today, bags that will help these kids get ready to head back to the classroom. >> second grade. >> crayons and pencils. >> i like adding a lot, subtracting, dividing. >> reporter: over in north philadelphia philadelphia housing authority was also celebrating back to school. >> book bags and dancing.

>> weekend accuweather forecast. here's cecily tynan. >> jim it's going to be a gorgeous weekend. about as nice as you can get for august weather. storm tracker6 live double scan showing that we are dry finally this afternoon the lingering showers moved off the coast and the action cam was taking a look in longport, new jersey, where you can see surf is up. if you're a boater bear in mind that we do have small craft advisories in effect for the delaware and jersey coasts into tomorrow night. we're looking at wind gusts up to about 25 knots that's 28 miles per hour and the waves could be up to about 5 feet thanks to a storm system off shore that could cause a few problems as well as rip currents. temperature-wise feels really nice. 85 degrees in philadelphia down from a high of 87 which is just 1 degree above the average high for this time of the year. allentown 80. trenton 82. millville 81 and a little bit cooler down the shore avalon and the boardwalk currently

75 degrees. and dewpoints are pretty low. this time of the year you get dewpoints below 60 degrees it's a very dry air mass with winds generally out of the northeast, out of canada and our dewpoints will remain on the low side right through the weekend. so, we're looking at seasonable temperatures and low humidity. satellite6 along with action radar showing the clouds cleared out very quickly in philadelphia this morning. they're still lingering though near atlantic city and dover and we do have a few high thin clouds moving in across the poconos. these clouds all associated with a low pressure that's finally moving off the coast of virginia. it's going to be intensifying as it mover to the northeast. it won't bring any rain to our region but it will bring some lingering clouds down the shore and also a risk of some rip currents. you do really want to be careful if you're on the beaches this weekend. next 12 hours though for this friday night mostly clear and seasonable, 59 degrees in the cooler suburbs, 68 degrees for center city. so a great night for sleeping and tomorrow we'll see a good amount of sunshine.

this low pressure down to the south will bring a few morning clouds down the shore but generally with this high pressure bringing us winds out of the northeast from canada, we're looking at mostly sunny skies, low humidity and you like today's temperatures, you'll like tomorrow way high of 87 degrees. on sunday still looking pretty nice, that front will bring us rain on monday night and tuesday. that will spread a few high thin clouds so more of a filtered sunshine sky and again a high of 87 degrees. if you are down the shore again, you definitely want to listen to the lifeguards. don't swim when they're off duty with those rip currents. tomorrow breezy with some sunshine, 77 degrees. some morning clouds and sunday definitely the better of the two days down the shore. sunshine with a high of 80 degrees. if you're heading up to the poconos overnight lows dropping down into the mid-50's. afternoon high 77 and sunday looking really nice, partly sunny, 79. so the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, a winning weekend, mostly sunny, 87 degrees. on sunday, again lots of
