perform before quite an audience. they learned they'll play for pope francis what it komentz to town and beaches are closed at a popular shore town after underwater cliffs develop thanks to strong current. the big story is rescue of two people in a dog from burning boat off the coast of ocean city and that boat went up in flames a bit before 11:00 this 340r7g this morning. andy dominianni jins us live from the coastguard station with the full store yes, i hi, annie. >> it happened off the coast of association city. we're told one person on the boat was sleeping and other at the helm when and then began to smell smoke. all three are safe tonight and were rescued and nobody was injured. >> just before 11 a.m. this 46 foot sailboat turned into a floating ball of fire. just off the coast of ocean city, new jersey. and thick, black smoke poured from the ship and on board, two people and their dog. this photo shows one of the boats's owners with jack the

4-year-old golden retriever this was taken after the rescue. tonight, all three on the boat are safe on land. and according to the coastguard a good samaritan radioed for help while the three on board jumped on a dinghy stocked with life investigates and minutes later this response boat arrived in time to rescue the trio and coastguard officials say the people on board were experienced and that saved crucial minutes. >> it could have been life or death it could have been. if they didn't have anything ready or get off the boat immediately with how quick it went up from what they told us they could have died on the boat. >> now a record according to the coastguard they lived on the boat and they lost everything. the boat did sink and there's an investigation into how this fire started. tonight, though, the local police department is helping that couple get on their feet and get a rental car to stay with family. for now reporting live in ocean city, new jersey, andy dominianni, channel 6 "action

news", walter. thank you, annie a 1 19-year-old 23r west philadelphia about to go off to college was shot and wounded at a party being held to celebrate his accomplish thes. 11:00 last night the gunman showed up at the parent and couldn't frotd the the victim outside of home and that's when the attacker pulled a gun and struck the teenager twice in the hip. the teenagers was taken to presbyterian hospital where he remains in stable condition tonight and the gunman remains on the loose. >> a 21-year-old mans with killed during a one-car crash overnight in sent senior yet and ten happened 3:30 this morning lombard street. the man was speeding when he lost control and struck a tree. the vehicle then went airborne and slammed into the old pine community center. there were four people inside that vehicle. the driver was killed and the other three walked away uninjured. >> and more than a dozen beaches in avalon are closed today because strong current carved out dangerous underwater cliffs along the shoreline. those cliffs as you can see are

up to 5 feet deep. officials were afraid someone could get hurt or fall off the cliff especially someone young or inexperienced the bureau wrapped up a beach replenishment project and recent strong tides and gusty winds combined to wash away a lot of. it local officials are hoping to rebeachs tomorrow. >> overall, it was a pretty good day to be at the beach. it was sunny and mild condition and wind did kick up a bit today. meteorologist adam joseph in for melissa magee and joins us with the first check of the accuweather forecast. hey, adam. >> walter, the winds at the shore and winds starting to wrap out of the easterly direction and again that's pulling that winds no friction off the ocean. it kind of hits the land pretty briskly so to speak and that's dropping temperatures into the mid 70s despite the sun right now and cloudy inland, 79 wilmington and 78 philadelphia and 80 reading and there's also a couple of showers spinning from time to time if you're heading home or know someone who is heading home from the shore especially as they lift

knowledge of 95 away from millville and even a downpour north and east of wilmington moving over the delaware river and just south ever the commodore barry bridge heading to swedesboro and that's the only downpour and no thunderstorms associated with that. it's all in response to a warm front that will arrive late tomorrow and low pressure which is situated just west and southwest of kansas city and this will carve its way across the great lakes and north and west monday night into tuesday and that will bring the humidity and chance for downpours and thunderstorms for the beginning of the week. so in that accuweather forecast we'll talk about the humidity really making a come back and a very bleak beginning of the week and even torrential rain with the possibility of some very strong storms. we'll let you know the timing on that walter coming up in the full accuweather forecast. >> thank you, adam. >> well steps ahead extended deadline for those of you who won the regional rail papal path lottery. you have until tomorrow 3 p.m. to finalize purchase.

marching band will perform on sunday, september 27 at atlantic aviation for pope francis as he deperts philadelphia. >> obvious excitement and tears as the magnitude of personing for the roman catholic church sets in. >> it's extraordinary i'm policed to be able to do this. >> it's a great opportunity. because not a lot of schools get to do that. >> it's amazing opportunity. for being i part of the o'hara family and being really focused on our catholic faith to be able to have an opportunity as great as it is. >> the cardinal o'hara marching band will perform on surprised, september 27 at the airport and as he boards a plane to return to the vatican. and in downingtown bishop shanahan marching band got the news they'll perform when the holy father arrives in philadelphia the day before. for cardinal o'hara senior liz bradley performing for this pope will have special meaning. >> i have such an apreciation

>> from our delaware newsroom a police officer is recovering from injuries after recovered from a crash in wilmington. someone tried making a left turn from right lean and ended up slamming into unmarked squad car ever the officer's car hit a hole at the intersection of walnut and a street. police officer and two other people were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. >> and well two people were left homeless after a fire on north broad earlier this morningch the fire started 1 a.m. in a vacant home before spreading the two other neighbors buildings. one of those buildings housed a chinese restaurant with

apartments upstairs. and the owners of that restaurant lived in one of those apartments and were able to escape without injury. vengttors say this fire may have been set intentionally. >> and kindred the family soul hosted annual free family reunion today. the party at kingsessing park in south west philadelphia is on to the public and there was plenty of water ice, softball and kick ball games and face painting and live perform ass as well. kindred the family soul is a local husband and wife r & b due own and they're also the parents of six children and this family is dedicated to biving back to the community. kling

locations. double scan as we close in closer there is one downpour really the only one in the entire viewing area right over penn's grove. 1:30 heading just to the east of penn's grove along 25 and we'll stay west and southwest of swedesboro. this is really only flare-up so to speak this afternoon with brief, heavy rain falls. winds have kicked in off the aetion and that's drop of temperatures mid 0s and with wind persistent out of the east today there was moderate risk of rip current and winds drain and eventually southeast there will be water pie pilingp around the shores tomorrow with more rip current and inland locations upper 70s with clouds and with some flashes of sun in the lehigh valley at 8. as we look at satellite and radar. not much going on at the present time. front to the west and low pressure developing south and west of st. louis and this will be tracking across the country

monday into tuesday. but, for tonight, a lot of clouds around. the stars will peek through from time to time turning muggy as well by tomorrow morning. 64 suburbs and 69 for center city and high pressure parks east of cape cod and again the highs have winds wrapping around clockwise. that will flow off the water. it's breezy, humid tomorrow and 83 degrees. and the system we're watching is well west. so early sun gives way to clouds in the afternoon and shower or downpour isolate around. but it's monday night to early tuesday morning that the heaviest of the storms and downpours will pass as a warm front approaches and associated low moves just to the north. and even isolated thunderstorm again tuesday afternoon. so here's the timeline. during the day tomorrow, hazy sun. breezy, humid, with an isolated downpour in a couple spots and no severe weather. it's 1:00 in the morning through 5:00 in the morning on tuesday that's strongest of the storms will pass through and

gusty winds, vivid lightning and few areas of localized flooding and then tuesday, scattered storms leftover and heaviest of it or strongest should occur when asleep monday night early tuesday. down the shore tomorrow, upper 70s. hazy, humid again watch for rip current and same for beachs in delaware with ocean tem tube of 76. >> the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. tomorrow, humid, clouds, scattered showers in the afternoon of 8 and heaviest storms are early in the morning tuesday. here's the snapshot. 2:00 in the morning as they roll through philadelphia and then tuesday afternoon, still isolated downpour or thunderstorm. then the front moves away and wednesday, thursday, beautiful picture perfect days, low humidity and a lot of surprise. highs in low 80s and turns warmer but not oppressively humid friday into the weekend. but high temperatures a little above average in the upper 80s. water. >> looks nice. >> thank you, adam. >> earlier today the sounds of hundreds of young dancers
