>> and i'm brian taff. the big story on "action news" is the investigation into the death of a bartram high school student as mentioned in southwest philadelphia. vernon odom live at police headquarters today and vernon police want to talk to the victim's brother here. >> reporter: indeed, brian. some 22 hours after that shooting in southwest philadelphia, the 18-year-old brother in question has still not made himself available to police for further questioning. this is corey tunnel a 16-year-old bartram high student who died last night from a bullet wound in the head. tonight police need to question his 18-year-old brother an friend who was at the scene. it happened inside the tunnel's cousin's reedland street row house. the surviving brother his friend and the gun have remained nowhere to be found since the shooting. police want to know if this was the result of teens playing with guns or an intentional killing. >> it could be an accident. it could be an intentional act. we don't know and we won't know until one of those two individuals comes in and talks to us. >> reporter: neighbors along

the 6300 block of reedland believe it was an accident. they ran to the house when the shooting occurred. >> he was still alive but when i walked out the door he wasn't breathing no more. they said that they revised him on the stretcher but when i left out the house he was gone. >> they took him in an ambulance. i drove the family to the hospital by the time we got there they were not letting nobody see him and stuff but from what i know, he was at the basketball court and he don't get in no trouble at all. he's a good kid. >> reporter: tonight police and family members are demanding that the 18-year-old brother and that third party who was an eyewitness come in and deliver their version of how corey tunnel was killed. >> we need the 18-year-old brother and the friend to come into the homicide unit and tell us exactly what happened inside of that house. >> reporter: argument or accident? >> we don't know. we have no idea. >> reporter: so, tonight brian, as you can see and hear police are still not drawing any conclusions as to why

16-year-old corey tunnel was shot and killed last night or how it happened. live at police headquarters in center city, vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> all right, vernon thanks very much. a woman is now charged with driving under the influence after she slammed her car into the home of a retired police officer. investigators say 34-year-old katherine ryan crashed overnight on the 8600 block of bustleton avenue in northeast philadelphia. the 85-year-old homeowner suffered some cuts and was able to walk out on his own. a neighbor tells us the man just lost his wife last week and now because of this he's been forced out of his home. he was lucky, though. he was upstairs when this happened just after midnight. police say he was jolted out of his seat when the car burst into flames in the basement. >> he just -- flames like crazy up in the roof. i was like -- i thought -- within one moment i thought my house was going, too. i was like wow. >> and the driver is also charged with simple assault

and reckless endangerment. >> saint louis county, missouri is under a state of emergency right now. this is police and protesters in ferguson are bracing for what could be another night filled with tense demonstrations. marci gonzalez is following the latest from new york. marcy. >> reporter: that state of emergency was just declared this afternoon in response to last night's violence and demonstrators are back out again today and there have already been a few arrests: today in saint louis, loud protests. >> ♪ >> reporter: and peaceful marches. following last night's violence in ferguson. [gunfire] >> reporter: gun shots and looting, bottles thrown at police. the chaos marring a day of quiet remembrance on the first anniversary of the shooting death of michael brown by a ferguson police officer. >> he's bleeding out man. please get him some help, man.

please get him some help. >> reporter: last night police shooting this 18-year-old they say ran from this scene where two rival groups were firing at each other. [gunfire] >> reporter: investigators saying tyrone harris then shot at a police suv with four detectives inside. when they got out, police claim harris continued firing at them with a stolen semi automatic handgun. police explaining all four detectives shot back leaving the teen in critical condition. today police are still at the scene concerned about the potential for another tense night. >> my prayer is that we can move forward without the violence that is unfortunately been associated with this because the stakes are very high here. i've talked a lot about the fact that you can not do this forever without a tragedy. >> reporter: meanwhile today at least three officers are recovering after one was hit in the face by a rock during yesterday's protests and two

were hit with pepper spray. reporting live marci gonzalez channel6 "action news." brian back to you. >> we'll be watching that one closely. thank you. a truck ended up stuck under tractor-trailer today after a crash on i-95 in chester. chopper six was over the lanes. the crash happened about 1:30 this afternoon and you can see the back of the tractor-trailer was on top of part that of truck. we're still working to find out if anyone was hurt. matt pelman wil will have an update on traffic in a few minutes. >> philadelphia police are looking for the man involved in a craigslist scam. there is an active arrest warrant for the man you see there, 44-year-old harry moore. investigators say he duped people who want to rent his west oak lane apartment on north fayette street. people say he accept eddie profit money but then refused to refund it after he claimed it was no longer available. anyone who knows about his whereabouts should contact northwest detectives.

>> well, a beautiful weekend giving way to a cloudy and gray monday. we hope it doesn't stay that way as we get a first check of the accuweather forecast. >> we go to meteorologist adam joseph live at the big board and trying read your facial expression. >> kind of a bleak start to the beginning of the week here. we got winds coming out of the southeasterly direction kind of bringing in the humidity. also the cloud cover, 78 in philadelphia right now, 74 on the boardwalk so pretty similar numbers no matter where you are down from those highs of 85 and 86 degrees this weekend. double scan live radar within those clouds there are a couple showers especially in southern chester county, delaware county, new castle county, salem and cumberland county. nothing heavy at this point but we are tracking some very heavy rain and also some pretty impressive thunderstorms in the ohio valley. there's a warm front draped near pittsburgh. that warm front will be lifting through overnight tonight. in addition to that warm front, we have very strong winds above the atmosphere called a low level jet that will be pushing through with

the warm front so that will keep those thunderstorms going as they pull in from the west so they will not fall apart. so, overnight tonight ahead in the accuweather forecast we'll be talking about those late night storms that could really kind of jolt you out of bed after about the 1 o'clock hour in the morning with very heavy downpours and vivid lightning. we'll have the exact timing on future tracker six and let you know when the storms will exit if it's in time for that morning rush hour coming up in that full accuweather forecast. brian. >> adam see you in a little bit. thank you. there's been a lot of talk lately about books, hotels and closed roads surrounding the pope's visit. many are trying to change the focus opening their arms by opening their doors to travelers around the world and you can be one of them. "action news" reporter katherine scott explains. when patricia hughey found out the world meeting of families was taking place in philadelphia she assumed visitors would be looking beyond hotels for accommodations. sure enough host families are

in demand and she, her husband and their cat barney will be hosting four people in their two spare bedrooms in south philadelphia. >> i'll be be kind of like a b and b host. i'm going to offer breakfast every day before they leave. >> reporter: there are more than 2100 host families in a 120-mile radius typically charging between $25 and $50 a night. hughey has been e-mailing with a couple from california and a pair of brothers from the democratic republican lick of congo who will be staying here. she thinks the pope's visit will give the city a chance to shine. >> i think philadelphia's a little bit underrated, under known for him to go to new york or d.c. wouldn't surprise anybody but maybe philadelphia did. >> reporter: her guests are using public transportation most of the week but she lives outside the restricted traffic box which could bring some challenges. >> the woman who is coming from california recently had knee surgery, so i'm a little

>> it was a violent day in turkey with two separate attacks. first, two women opened fire at the u.s. consulate in is stainablistanbul. one of the women was injured in the crossfire and captured in a nearby building where she was hiding. police are still searching for the other female. police holding machine guns blocked off streets leading to the consulate. the building was intact and its flag was flying. also in istanbul someone

set off a car bomb at a police station, then fired on police inspecting the scene. four people died in that explosion. the two attackers were reportedly killed in an exchange of gunfire with police. at least 10 people including civilians were hurt. there were no immediate claims of responsibility. brian. >> all right alicia. crews on four different commercial flights say they spotted a drone while they were getting ready to land at newark liberty interception nat airport this past weekend. the faa says the planes were between two and 3,000 feet and less than 15 miles from the airport when they saw the drone. none of the pilots had to change their landing patterns because of it but the faa says complaints about drones have become more common as more and more people buy them. turns out flying a drone near an airport is illegal and also comes way $25,000 fine. >> wegmans is still hiring workers for its new store in delaware county. between 100 and 125 positions

up 26 and a half points on the day. diet pepsi getting rid of a key ingredient in hopes of getting more people to drink more soda. pepsi says it's diet formula will no longer contai couldn't aspertame. sales of diet soda has been falling off and eliminating it could make them buy it again. the diet versions of coke dr. pepper and others still use it. >> astronauts on the international space station are eating their greens today and this is not your typical farm to table fresh fair. check this out. nasa says astronauts ate red romaine lettuce today that you grown on the space station itself. it is the first food that humans have ever grown in space. nasa says the concept of a space garden is necessary for any deep space mission since astronauts will be in transit for so long. experts are specifically targeting a mission to mars. how cool is that.

>> makes me feel pathetic because i can barely grow anything on earth and they're doing it up there. >> i know somebody who has a garden that is something to boast about right. >> meteorologist adam joseph. >> wait, have i brought you guys in any veggies. >> i'm just saying. >> i have to step up my game. speaking of lettuce an green thumb there's some green on the radar here just south of vineland and also an area just to the south and west of philadelphia on the border of new jersey, delaware and the state of pennsylvania. there you can see some of these light showers near malvern heading towards berwyn as well as west chester, chadds ford, down to wilmington. fairly dampening the ground as they're pushing from the south to the north but the real heavy action will hold off until after the midnight hour. if you're heading up towards musikfest, though, in the lehigh valley we've got jerry seinfeld on the stage here tonight, 8:30 p.m., a lot of clouds. there could be an isolated shower around with temperatures at 71 degrees. so, bring some rain gear just in case this evening. right now it's 73 in the

lehigh valley. it looks cool everywhere with temperatures in the low 70's because of that wind off of the water and once again as expected we have those rip currents at the shore because of that persistent wind coming in out of the southeasterly direction and also the atmosphere is a little more humid than it was over the weekend. if we take a wider look at satellite and radar, there's a warm front in the ohio valley approaching pittsburgh and that is where we're seeing the thunderstorms really kick off along with some heavy downpours so future tracker will show by midnight tonight, still some scattered light showers but you're starting to see some of the reds and yellows to the west of lancaster. they moved through here between 2 o'clock and 5 o'clock in the morning. that's the heaviest action and then it pushes to the north and east in time for the morning rush hour right around 8 o'clock. most of it north of trenton towards new york city and it's really just cloudy with leftover damp roadways. so, what to expect here between about that 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock in the morning hour? those jolting thunderstorms. if you're a dreamer, sorry but

it may interrupt that dream tonight. three-quarters to an inch and a half of rain is expected overnight, ponding on the roadways and there could be that slow early morning commute especially if there's some leftover ponding on the roadways. tomorrow afternoon we're not going to see the action like we will overnight tonight. it's just scattered during the afternoon tomorrow with a leftover downpour or thunderstorm so again the worst of it will come through while most of us are sleeping. your four day at 4:00 humid with that scattered thunderstorm still possible tomorrow afternoon but really it's a cloudy muggy day at 82 degrees. wednesday clouds and sun, dropping humidity at 85 degrees. and then we take the clouds away and the humidity completely on thursday. the pick of the week. beautiful at 83 degrees and we warm it back up to 87 on friday but still low humidity, a lot of sun and just a few clouds, so late night tonight you got an early alarm clock for many of us. if you're a light sleeper.

>> brand new at 4:00 we know the names now of two people killed this morning in a nasty crash in philadelphia's lawncrest section. it happened around 2:30 a.m. at adams and whitaker avenues. police say 24-year-old rosaya galvez was speeding. she hit the curb then a utility box and that caused the vehicle to flip over. she and her passenger 30-year-old jeffrey chavez were both thrown from the car and they died at the scene. >> police in germantown are looking for the man who got into an argument with a convenience store worker and then ended up robbing the place. it happened at the in and out deli on the 5100 block of germantown avenue last thursday. police say the suspect was fighting with the clerk and started punching the plexiglas on the counter. he eventually broke it and video shows him reaching through the glass to then grab

>> it is 4:30 and "action news" continues with the latest on a story that is still developing at this hour. we now know that three people were shot in wilmington, delaware, this afternoon. one fatally. investigators say one victim was found inside a home on the 400 block of west seventh street around 2 o'clock this afternoon. another woman was found a block away. no other information has been released about the third victim or which victim died. police also say a child was taken to the hospital for treatment but it's not yet clear just why. we'll continue to monitor this story throughout the evening for you. stay with "action news" both on air and online at 6abc.com for the very latest developments. >> now to the latest on that criminal case involving pennsylvania's top prosecutor. you are looking now at a split screen as kathleen kane in 20's 13 and again this week.

in both she's wearing white surrounded by a sea of people but that's where the similarities end. on the left cane is being sworn in, on the right she's turning herself in. for more on what's next for that embattled attorney general we turn now to "action news" reporter john rawlins live in norristown. john. >> reporter: hi, brian. well, the attorney general when she was here saturday afternoon to turn herself in and to be arraigned in norristown she was stoic and silent. now the word comes that she will break that silence wednesday at a news conference in harrisburg. kathleen kane matter, the attorney general under indictment but vowing to stay in the job. do people care? is it on their radar screen? on a scale of one to five, five being very interested,. >> right now i'm about a one. it's unfortunate that these political things happen but i would want to know more about it before i could really say whether it bothers me or not. >> reporter: in a decidely

unscientific sample not a burning interest. >> to be honest, not really. if she's guilty, she should just resign. >> reporter: with kane to speak later this week public opinion could shift. for now the first democrat, the first woman ag who was swept into office maintains she is innocent but having the highest law enforcement officer in pennsylvania under a criminal cloud awkward say the least. george perry a philadelphia attorney and one time prosecutor wonders about the morale of the ag staff and wonders how kane can do her job while mounting her own defense an. >> she would open herself up to criticism. maybe people would want to say she's being hypocritical. >> reporter: there's been talks of effort to remove kane either by impeachment or administrative channels using something called rule 208 that due "egregious conduct" can be used to temporarily suspends an attorney's law license something an ag must have. perry explains how it might apply.

>> philadelphia police are trying to figure out why a young man viciously attacked a gas station clerk in strawberry mansion last week. surveillance video shows the suspect walking around the sunoco on the 1700 block of north 33rd street early last wednesday morning. about 90 minutes later cameras caught the man returning to the store and immediately kicking in a secured door that led to the cash register area. the suspect then attacked the 52-year-old clerk punching him in the head and face. police say he ran off without taking anything. if you have any information on this beating, call central detectives. >> emergency repairs are under way at this hour in center city after a sinkhole opened up right near city hall. the action cam was out along the area of 15th and chestnut this morning. that's where a portion of the road caved in sometime overnight. the philadelphia streets department blocked that hole with traffic cones and barricades. during the rush hour this morning. at least check, crews were still working to fix that situation. >> some thrill seekers got

when we go to bed overnight tonight. presently a lot of clouds in center city. it's dry but light showers west of the city. 78 is your temperature. the dewpoint back out of the 50's into the 60's so it's humid again with that southerly wind and the heat index sitting at 80 degrees but the real tropical humidity is still waiting in the wings south and west of pittsburgh, charles storks west virginia, roanoke in the low 70's right now for the dewpoints and that is what is going to push in overnight tonight and with the introduction of that tropical humidity you can see those downpours and thunderstorms erupting in that same area and as they move in from the southwest to the north and east overnight tonight they're not going to fall apart like they typically would because we have a lot of atmospheric energy overnight tonight in the form of that very strong winds just aloft so we'll be tracking those on future tracker to let you know exactly the timing we're expecting this tonight and we'll chat about a big drop in the humidity.

you might not believe it. this is dash cam video as a tornado approaches a roadway in taiwan over the weekend. it came aground with 120 miles an hour winds and picked up that white van like some kind of toy but keep watching here. as the tornado spins down the road, taking the van with it, a woman appears on the right-hand side of the road. there she is. take a look right where our channel six logo was. she was tossed into that scene. it's not clear where she came from but we found out she did suffer serious injuries. incredible stuff. >> ♪ on health check at 4 o'clock today, some words of warning as a man's best friend. if you use peanut butter in treats or to give your dog pills you better read the label first. kansas state university says the sweetener xylitol is showing up some pricier brands of peanut butter but it can be toxic to a dog if they get too much causing low blood sugar or even liver failure. university vets say so far it's not in the big name

that design also sparking outrage and anger. it reads keep calm and kill yourself. bike riders abound in our area especially in center city and there's a new bill being proposed by a pennsylvania lawmaker that's getting thrown under bus by a lot of those bike lifts. state representative anthony deluca from pittsburgh wants cyclists around the state to warwear reflective clothes when they bike at night. he likened it to the hunting gear worn by hunters to keep them visible and safe. bike advocates are not happy about this saying that forcing people to buy and wear app special vest will actually deter potential riders. the bike coalition of greater philadelphia started a petition saying this is bad legislation because right now cyclists are already required to have reflective lights on the fronts and backs of their bikes to make them visible. especially to drivers so isn't that enough, you need not wear the vest. whether you're hip to this

some of this rain. >> we desperately need the rain. >> your garden. >> yes, every gardens not just mine, every garden in the delaware valley needs a little drink of water and they'll get quite a bit overnight tonight. as we take a look look at double scan live radar even right now we're getting a couple sprinkles in parts of chester county, new castle county, some portions of southern new jersey. it's not very heavy but, hey, we'll take every little drop that we will get. malvern exof exton, west chester as you head straight down towards chadds ford and route one away from chadds ford towards oxford, a couple of sprinkles on the radar scope here hitting the windshield but this is nothing compared to what's going to pull through here after the midnight hour. 73 right now in allentown. temperatures are on the coolish side because of winds coming in off of the atlantic. not the best of beach days there. once again rip currents has been an issue. humidity increasing through the 70's is not terribly comfortable out there. you're starting to feel the humidity especially if you work outdoors.

satellite showing to the west clouds continue to really build up and on radar a bunch of downpours and thunderstorms in the ohio valley. there's a warm front draped right through here and that's what's going to push through here in the wee hours of the morning. so, you're going to see a lot on radar here. future tracker between about two, 5, 6 o'clock in the morning, torrential rain, vivid lightning as that area of rain and that warm front passes through. most of it should pass to the north during the morning rush. however, if it's timing is off just a little bit some of us still may deal with some of those torrential downpours during the morning rush. lunchtime tomorrow it's cloudy, muggy with scattered downpours and thunderstorms around and the same thing into the afternoon at 4 o'clock. the biggest concentration of and the widespread storms will pass through between 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock in the morning with that line of very heavy downpours and lightning and then 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon through 7 o'clock on tuesday, the storms are more scattered in variety and they

large explosion behind me and the whole house shook and i shook. >> reporter: the impact knocked 85-year-old carmen adamo right out of his chair. he was cut and bruised but alive. he thought there had been an explosion. >> smoke, dust all flying about me and it knocked me right out of the chair. >> reporter: carmen made his way upstairs and had to crawl down a fireman's ladder to safety. his next door neighbor in the twin house was jolted out of bed by the impact. the car burst into flames inside carmen's house. >> within no seconds it just flame like crazy up in the roof. i was like my -- i thought within one moment i thought my house is going, too. i was like wow. >> reporter: everyone got out safely including the driver of the car. police have charged 34-year-old katherine ryan of rhawnhurst with dui and other offenses. carmen says she came into his life at exactly the wrong time. last week he buried his wife, phyllis, who had b
