and bicycles. >> a little crazy that we have to move our cars off the street but that seems like it's going to be really burdensome for a lot of people. >> reporter: michael lieberman will have to get his car off the street. any parked car within the black outlines on this map will be towed when the secure zones go into effect. if your car is parked in a garage or parking lot it can stay but you won't be able to move it for at least three days. residents of the philadelphian are used to big events on the parkway but this will be different. >> i love all the events and i love the people having a good time. however i feel like i'm going to be a prisoner in my home. >> reporter: in addition to the zone within the black lines other major arteries will be off limits to all vehicles reserved for emergency vehicles only. lombard street is one of them. no parking and no access from river to river. the highrise condos and apartments around washington square will also feel the impact. most of the buildings have parking garages and vehicles will not be allowed to exit

those garages from friday through sunday. bill yonch is an emergency room physician at jefferson. >> i am going to be able to get to work because i only have a block to walk but i'm not sure if what else is going o to happen that weekend. >> reporter: the city says this will be a walking event and that's true for center city residents even if they're not attending the papal events. many are getting out of town. >> we're actually going out of the country. we were supposed to leaf on sunday but we can't because of the pope association we'll be leaving going to new york on thursday. >> reporter: the city is not making any arrangements for people who have to move their cars out of the vehicle security zones. they say they will be posting plenty of notices, signs on the -- on utility poles and elsewhere advising residents of when they've got to move their cars or be towed. live in washington square, david henry, channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> okay, david, thank you.

account at 6abc pope. and "action news" is going to pope francis' hometown next week. jim gardner will have live reports from buenos aires argentina. he'll be there to meet the people and see the places that help form the pope's views and opinions. jim's reports begin monday on "action news" at 6:00 and 11:00. >> rescue crews had to pull a man out of the creek today after his plane crashed in allentown. chopper six was over the wreckage near the lily high creek. the plane went down after 11 o'clock this morning west of i-78 an faa official says this was an experimental plane but they don't yet know why it crashed. the pilot was the only person on board and medics say he was conscious when he went to the hospital. we're still working to learn his name and just how badly that person was injured. a small earthquake shook part of new jersey early this morning. the u.s. geological survey said the quake had a magnitude of 2.7 which is classified as

currently 81. association your evening planner on this friday night, if you're out on the ton, it's going to be warm. at 7 o'clock, 82 degrees. by 8 o'clock, 80, 9 o'clock 78, and by 10 o'clock, 76 degrees with overnight lows dropping down into the 60's. so, seasonably warm overnight. humidity will still be low. future tracker showing we're heading back to the 90's over the weekend. tomorrow afternoon philadelphia up to 90 degrees. humidity is still not that high tomorrow. however, on sunday, it will get more humid and by 1 o'clock, we should be back up to 90 degrees. so, if you're heading to the eagles preseason game at the linc, dress for the hot weather and stay hydrated. drink lots of water. it will be hot and humid. the kickoff temperature 90 degrees by the fourth quarter 93 degrees and it looks like it will get even hotter next week and this heat wave could be extended. i'll have all the details on that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. sharrie. >> okay, cecily thank you. speaking of the eagles, for the first time in a long time

it is football friday in philadelphia. the eagles will take the field on sunday for their first preseason game against the indianapolis colts but today we learned several key players will not suit up with the rest of the birds. jeff skversky is live in south philadelphia. jeff this isn't uncommon during preseason games but i'm sure some fans will definitely be disappointed. >> yeah, sharrie, eagles fans that want to see sam bradford make his debut in a and eagles uniform you're going to have to wait until next saturday. sam bradford will not play in the preseason opener sunday against the colts at home. mark sanchez will start tim tebow and matt barclay will see extensive time at the quarterback position. eagles head coach chip kelly says the coaching staff wrestled with the decision whether or not to play sam bradford. ultimately clip decided to keep him on the sidelines. bradford not thrilled about it. he wanted to shake off the rust and test out that left knee that underwent 2acl surgeries but this is not a

set it has nothing to do with the condition of his knee. chip and sam both say he's a hundred percent. they're just trying to be very cautious here. >> sam will not play. that's my decision. he really wants to play. i don't think he's happy with my decision. he's been out here for two weeks done a nice job. he'll get his first work against the ravens when we get a chance to train with them for a couple days before we play. >> obviously i wanted to be out there. i was preparing to be out there but, you know, this morning he kind of sat down and explained it to me and it's up to him. i'll be ready to roll next week, get out there play against the ravens. >> and how about this for a birthday present? on tim tebow's 28th birthday today chip kelly informs him he will get extensive time on the football field. tebow has been out of football the last two years. another guy who will not play on top of bradford will be zach ertz. he underwent surgery at a and hopefully he'll be ready for week one. we're live at the novacare

traffic this weekend on the delaware memorial bridge. contractors are painting the towers on both spans. that means the right lane of the bridge into new jersey will be closed all weekend. the left lane of the bridge into delaware will also be closed until sunday at 3:00 p.m. officials are asking any drivers to plan accordingly. there will be closures that affect next weekend as well. >> time now for the "action news" traffic report. >> all right, matt pelman standing by in the "action news" traffic center with more traffic news. hey, matt. >> yes, and so we are carefully watching the speeds, brian and sharrie, at that delaware memorial bridge this afternoon and they're not so hot. as you can see just 11 miles per hour northbound on 295 on the approach to the bridge coming out of delaware you're looking at a solid jam on 95. basically the whole way from the delaware service area up to 295 and then 295 is at a crawl over into new jersey. adding insult to injury if you're coming out of new jersey there's a crash on the southbound new jersey turnpike approaching route 40. bottling things up there.

and then you continue to be slow across the span of the delaware memorial bridge, and like you said, it's going to be happening the next couple of weekends, it's been happening for awhile, a lane out in each direction on the dmb. in delco blue route 476, southbound was already jammed and then there was a crash here on the southbound lanes by the route one media bypass taking out the left lane and part of the right lane. traffic squeezing by on the shoulder but it's a solid jam coming down from approaching villanova through this point lima springfield. you know we're going to be parked on the vine street expressway. eastbound side off the schuylkill the whole way out to 95 where the 95 jams are heavy again. if you're headed into new jersey, the walt whitman bridge is jam packed the length and then once you get on 42 no relief because southbound approaching 130 there's a crash with speeds in the teens. headed toward that, let's grab the ipad do the commuter report on this finally friday afternoon. if you're trying to dodge the crowd on 42 and the a.c. expressway by using route 40 harding highway think again. no luck there. traffic jam in mays landing on

in china but the death toll from the explosions has increased to at least 56. this is new video from an american who was watching for shooting stars on the roof of his apartment building when the warehouse full of ha hazardous materials blew up. he recorded both blasts before running for safety. >> i didn't know if the building was going fall down the i thought you a dead. i thought we were going to die. >> back at the scene of the explosion where an incredible rescue played out earlier today. a 19-year-old firefighter was pulled from the rubble alive after more than 30 hours. there are still a few small fires burning and hazmat teams are testing the air quality. chinese officials, though, are insisting it's safe. >> volkswagen is recalling 420,000 vehicles in america because of a problem with front air bags that might prevent them from deploying in a crash. the recall affects eight models in all. that includes the jet tax passat and tiguan model years

the eagles season preview we're looking at very hot conditions. definitely drink lots of water. beer dee hydrates you i hear. and monday the peek of the heat wave, 94 degrees and then on tuesday still steamy with an afternoon thunderstorm, 92 degrees. last night i said that the heat wave could be ending on thursday. now it looks like it could actually be extending through next week so it could be another long heat wave. >> we'll keep our eyes on that, cecily. thank you. body art enthusiasts heading to the wildwoods convention center this weekend. the sixth annual tattoo expo is under way. more than 300 artists are there to show off their work and compete. visitors will find live music an tattoo swimsuit contest. the expo runs through sunday night at 8:00 p.m. >> we've got some breaking news now we want to head to and get some pictures for you. chopper 6hd is live over this, what's a car accident that has happened in cinnaminson.

this accident happened in the southbound lanes on route 130 and at this point we are being told because of this fire and this crash, lanes are closed in both ways between wynnewood road and andover roads. as you can see this fire is burning as we watch now this car on fire from the crash. we're told one person has been hospitalized as this happened this afternoon. >> now we're told the driver of the car apparently hit a power pole here in the area and was able to get out on their own. then person was taken to our lady of lourdes hospital for what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries, but boy, what a scene there on route 130 as that car is still in flames. and it does not appear at this point as though there are first responders on the scene just yet or have not determined that it's safe enough to approach that car given the presence of power lines in the area. but again, route 130 closed in both directions right now between wynnewood road and andover road in cinnaminson burlington county. we'll keep our eyes closely on this one and bring you updates

>> ♪ >> local veterans powered pass their disabilities to complete the first portion of the wounded warrior soldier ride this morning. the action cam was in south philadelphia as they took off from the novacare complex. veterans will bike 40 miles over the next -- the weekend as parts avenue three day retreat focused on healing and camaraderie. wounded warrior organizers say the ride is meant to help veterans dealing with lost limbs and chronic pain. >> and now to another look at our breaking news this afternoon. in cinnaminson new jersey, chopper six live over this accident on route 130. a car on fire after hitting a power pole. lines are down. first responders are on the scene but are working to make sure those lines are safe before approaching that car and extinguishing that fire. we've got an update for you on this road closure coming up as "action news" continues. >> ♪

tribune writer experienced. why she wishes a storm like katrina would hit her city. >> we'll show you the rest of this guy's snatch and shuffle straight ahead. >> we want to begin with breaking news out of cinnaminson new jersey. we want to take you to live pictures brought to us by chopper 6hd. you can see this vehicle is on fire here. we're being told that a person was driving along route 130 when they crashed into a utility pole and the vehicle then burst into flames, also knocking down some of the power lines in the area. you can see that the downed wires. at this point we don't see any firefighters or emergency personnel getting too close to this as we presume that they have some concerns of safety for themselves with these power lines that are down. but we want to let you know that this affecting traffic in this area, cinnaminson new jersey along route 130. we're being told that 130 is closed both directions between wynnewood road and andover

road. as for the person who was inside this vehicle they were taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. so that person is said to be okay. but again, this fire still happening as this car is burning. it is affecting traffic in both ways. of course we will bring you more information as we get it here during the 4 o'clock newscast. now to montgomery county where authorities are looking for a postal prowler. someone has apparently been stealing from mailboxes in towamencin township leaving residents vulnerable to identity theft or even worse. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live for us at one of the areas that have been impacted in the neighborhood there. vern, what's the latest? >> reporter: sharrie, it's known as one of the rawest forms of i.d. theft. it's done right here at curbside. that's your mailbox right on your curb. residential mailboxes in towamencin a lot of them were hit hard overnight earlier this week. thieves stole outgoing mail placed in the box for pick up

and delivery by the postal service. at least nine boxes have been targeted according to police. identity theft in its rawest form. >> they're looking for any kind of identification, credit card numbers, people give gift cards and birthday cards things like that. that's what they look for, checks, you're paying your bills by check, now they got your identifying numbers. >> reporter: this rash of mailbox thefts was uncovered when neighbors found the discarded envelopes of other residents in a trash barrel. police are warning township residents to check their bank statements and credit card accounts to ensure that fraudulent purchases or cash withdrawals have not been made against their accounts. >> we've identified about nine victims so far but there could be others out there. because if you're putting mail out you're not going to know until wherever you were sending it doesn't show up. >> reporter: local residents david bowers now checks his accounts every day after what he believers was a similar case of i.d. theft six months ago. someone stole his i.d. and wrote a check for more than

$2,000. >> thank god, you know, i got it in time but i had to change my checking account, i had to get all new checks, high to notify everybody who was -- i had to notify everybody gets paid monthly. >> reporter: another neighbor says he's been on guard for this kind of rip off. >> i try to put the mail out for the day. if it's a big check i'll take it up to the post office. >> reporter: you don't trust the overnight -- >> no, i never leave it overnight. >> reporter: brian, so far police are not been able to find any surveillance video that might provide them with some leads. live in towamencin township montgomery county, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> all right, vern, thank you so much. police are looking for a man who stole a van filled with prescription drugs from outside a west philadelphia pharmacy. the suspect took the vehicle at 57th and chestnut just after 10:30 this morning.

he later crashed it at 42nd and girard and bailed on foot. investigators recovered the van but were unable to find the thief. it's unclear at this point if he took any of the drugs inside. police in toms river say this new jersey mom was caught driving drunk with her six-year-old child in the car. 37-year-old jennifer hyman crashed her jeep into another vehicle on bay avenue tuesday night. fortunately nobody was seriously hurt but after the crash authorities allege that hyman attempted to kick the police officer who put her in handcuffs. she is now charged with dwi, resisting arrest and child neglect. >> well, police need your help finding a burglar who literally slipped past security in south philadelphia. cameras captured the nimble thief scooting under the gate outside of the namsung bakery along the 1600 block of washington avenue last movement he apparently waited for a bread delivery before making his move. once inside police say he cleaned out the register,

stole the tip jar and then took off. detectives are also looking for a thief with happy feet. watch this. surveillance video shows a couple walking into the on tray byon restaurant back on july 26. as the woman uses the bathroom, the man shuffles spins over to a stranger's purse. seconds later he grabs her wallet and dances away while stuffing it under his shirt. if you recognize the suspect in this theft inside the bakery, call philadelphia police. >> perhaps you just recognize his dance moves. 122 cats and kittens are being treater at the spca in north philadelphia today: all of those felines rescued from a home in henryville. authorities say the owners had planned to open a shelter but were unable to keep up with the rapid reproduction.

most of the rescued cats are less than four months old. some of them have already recovered enough to be adopted. >> and that's good news. >> yeah. >> a good home for them. >> that's the reason why you have to get your animals spayed and neutered. >> neutered, right. cecily we're in for a great weekend. >> yes, it's going to be a hot weekend that's for sure and today definitely warmer than yesterday but not oppressive. let's go live on sky6 taking a look at the scene in center city and look at that sunshine. it's 86 degrees. the dewpoints are higher than yesterday. yesterday we had dewpoints in the upper 40's and low 50's. 57 degrees. but still that's pretty low for this time of the year so the humidity really not a factor. the heat index matches the air temperature of 86 degrees with winds out of the southwest at 9 miles per hour. cape may on the beach looking beautiful out there. 78 degrees with winds out of the south-southwest at 13 miles per hour. and the ocean temperature 76 degrees and if you are heading to the shore this weekend, wow, enjoy it. the weather will be beautiful
