breaking news an off duty philadelphia police officer killed in a crash. >> it happened just a few hours ago in roxborough. the officer's truck mangled so badly the officer had little chance. trish hartman joins us live from the 39th district in tie tioga tioga-nicetown where the officer was assigned. >> reporter: police have not released the victim's name because the family is in the

process of being notified. the sergeant was a 32-year-old and ten year veteran of the police force. the crash happened around midnight in the roxborough section of the city on henry avenue. the officers say he lost control crashing the pick up truck he was driving into the tree. you can see from the video that the damage to the front of the cab is expensive. the victim was taken to einstein where he was pronounced dead a short time later. the officer's body was scorpted to escorted to the medical examiners office. this is the second officer to be killed the first robert wilson iii who was shot and killed in the line of duty during a robbery in north philadelphia. back here live, police say the crash victim was off duty and not on his way home from work. no word on where he was coming from or what caused him to lose

control. that's under investigation, live in tioga-nicetown, trish hartman, channel 6 "action news." >> this is brand new video of a tractor-trailer accident that closed down one lane on i-95. the big rig ran off the southbound lanes near the delaware border. the front of the truck ended up in the trees. pennsylvania state police blocked one southbound lane leaving one lane open so traffic could get by, we're working to learn about the condition of the driver, all lanes are open at this hour. 6:02 it is sunday morning, chris taking a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. it's been a winner of a weekend. >> reporter: another day of featuring low humidity levels and comfortable temperatures, a good amount of sunshine, depending on where you are, if you're down the jersey shore maybe see more in the way of clouds as the afternoon progresses, you'll see sunshine down there, as well.

bradford got his first game in green. >> he got to test out that surgically repaired knee and a lot of homes restings on the knee and that arm. jeff skeverski has more. >> reporter: nfl stars get anxious, too, sam bradford said he had butterflies going into his first preseason start for the eagles, sam bradford gets a welcome as he starts his first game. demarko murray making his debut against baltimore. bradford nailed on his left knee by suggs. bradford completes three of five passes and lays them on scween drive and murray scores, as well. eagles with a big win 40-17.

nothing turning threatening, it should be a nice afternoon around the delaware valley. here's the front off the coast, here's the second front that's approaching from the west. that's the canadian front. once this guy sweeps through that will set up a nice, dry stretch of weather from tuesday on, with low humidity levels and nice, comfortable temperatures. this will increase the threat of showers monday night into tuesday morning. future tracker will show you that. later this afternoon, combination of sun and clouds, really not too much to talk about. there's the slightest chance of a shower across south jersey, especially closer to the shore. it's only a 20% channels. most of us steer clear of any weather. then we head into monday morning, combination of sun and clouds, throughout the afternoon, sun and clouds. late in the day, showers approach the area with the approaching cold front you see how spotty this is most of us it falls apart before it gets into the delaware valley. there are showers late monday night into tuesday morning and

once the front clears the coast, the drier air starts to settle on in, and looks like the rest of the week is nice and dry, speaking of dry, the dry air is part of the reason why danny continues to weaken. hurricane danny has diminished into tropical storm danny with winds at 50 miles per hour. it's barely a tropical storm at this point. the reasoning for that, look at all the dry air in place. it wraps in the center of the storm and rips apart. danny is on life support right now. it will continue to pull west and ride over top of the windward islands. it will go over the dominican republic and puerto rico by the middle of next week. this is a much-needed rainmaker for the tropical arms. once it gets south of the turks and caicos islands, most of the models say no. 77 degrees, nice and comfortable

>> in britain a vintage 1950s military jet crashed into the ground during an air show killing seven people. it happened on the south coast of england. thousands watched in horror as the jet suddenly plunged to the ground. it landed on the road. seven people were killed, 15 others injured including the pilot. authorities don't know whether a mechanical problem caused the crash. a japanese island is growing thanks to a spewing volcano. a drone flew over the island 600 miles south of tokyo. it has begun to expand after an eruption grew two years ago. the video from the drone shows a crater in the island's center that is spewing smoke and lava. >> a panda at the national zoo

this sunday morning, a philadelphia police officer killed in a crash. his pick up lost control on henry avenue in roxborough. in a solemn tradition overnight, his body was escorted from the hospital. nydia is off, i'm eva pilgrim along with alicia vitarelli. trish hartman is in nicetown with more on the officer, trish. >> reporter: eva, e, and alicia, the victim's family is in the process of being notified, so police have not released his name. he is 32-year-old sergeant and ten year veteran of the district. the sergeant loss control of his

pick up on henry avenue near dupont street. he was taken to einstein where he was pronounced dead short willly after arrival. this is the second philadelphia police officer killed. the first being robert wilson iii shot and killed in the line of duty in march during a robbery in north philadelphia. the wilson was an officer with the 22nd district. now back here live, philadelphia police say the circumstances are under investigation, the officer was on duty and not on his way home from work at the time. police say the last officer from the 39 district killed was killed in a motorcycle accident of last year.

man in new jersey shot by two police officers is calling for a federal investigation. jerome reid was killed. >> justice was not served, my son did not have justice and i don't have no peace. >> reporter: surrendererred -- surrounded by community activists, jerome reid's mother mother -- >> they presented a weak case, as it played out in the south jersey times, instead of seeking justice, the prosecutor acted as a defense attorney for the officers to justify their actions. >> reporter: the officers shot reid after he divide orders after stepping out of the car

with his hands raised. the officer removed the gun from the glove compartment. he fired at reid with his service weapon. >> the officer took the gun out of the car, what was jerome going to shoot him with empty hands. >> reporter: according to prosecutors, the officers thought reid had a weapon or was going to take a weapon out of their hands. he was charged for resisting arrest and served prison time for shooting state troppers. albert kelly called for the public to accept the grand jury decision. >> i hope it puts a period at the end of the this sentence. some people's lives with it it will be, others who are hope are 0ing for a different outcome will be upset. >> it is alleged that his civil rights were violated and they will push for another investigation. >> we want and demand federal intervention in the case of jerome reid.

dewpoints remain nice and low all day long. it is another refreshing afternoon. it's going to be warm, but with dewpoints as low as what we're forecasting, it should be good. the decent rain we haven't seen much of they're two inches below where we should be. a drought is this color here. we don't have that across the mid atlantic. it is getting to the point where we need to see rainfall around here. unfortunately there's not much in the seven-day forecast. there's showers across the tennessee valley and one or two showers off the coast which could sneak into the coastal sections later in the day. with the exception of that most of the forecast is dry over the next 48 hours. future tracker 6, sun and clouds, smooth sailing overnight tonight, mainly clear once again, tomorrow morning, clear conditions, a few clouds, by tomorrow afternoon it will be

similar to today. combination of sun and clouds. with the approaching cold front one or two showers may develop late in the day by 5:30. dry air in place, approaching front, the showers disappear that's why dry conditions promote drought, when the atmosphere is so dry, showers that approach the area evaporate before they reach the ground hear. that will be the set up over the next couple of days. another update on tropical storm danny. nothing more than a rainstorm. winds at 50 miles per hour, we've seen severe thunderstorms of winds higher than this. it is roughly 500 miles east of the windward islands, pushing toward the west at 15 miles per hour. by thursday of this upcoming week it should be off the coast of the cuba, bringing beneficial rains to the carribean islands. pleasant today, 84 degrees is the forecasted high. jersey shore, expect a combination of sun and clouds, sticky on the water.
