minutes. >> breaking right now, police in bangkok say they have arrested a man in connection with a bomb that killed 20 people nearly two weeks ago. this is video of the bomb as the tore through the crowded area near a shrine earlier this month. thailand police say they raided an apartment used by the suspect and discovered possible bomb-making materials. they have not released the identity of the suspect, but they say he is a foreigner. a news conference is scheduled later today. a suspected drunk driver is behind bars after hitting a bicyclist riding ray -- along the benjamin franklin parkway. this is the scene logan square after midnight. a man and woman riding bikes on the parkway when the car hit the woman. the crash threw her from the driver windshield to the under the front wheels of the car. the woman is in serious condition. new police, are searching

for a suspect after a man is pistol whipped and shot in the germantown section. the action cam on elmwood street. police say the assailant approached the victim after he got out of the car. the suspect pistol whipped the man and shot him in the leg before running off the victim is in stable condition. police are searching for the person behind a violent home envision vacation in -- i invasion in south philadelphia. it is believe the suspect is a teenager. sharrie williams has the story. >> she is doing fine, but upset. >> reporter: residents in south philadelphia are rallying behind one of their home as the homeowner came face-to-face with the burglar. it was tuesday, early even when police say a man climbed flue an open window of a home in the 700 block of south 222nd street. little did the burglar know the

homeowner was home. she walked into the room and startled him. george leon is with the south of south town watch. >> he wasn't prepared for an actual home invasion. >> reporter: while the homeowner was tied up, the intruder went room to room stealing the electronics, he stole her bicycle, he used it to flee the scene. the tiedup homeowner ran down the block to the coffee shop for help. they called police. the neighbor said the neighborhood which is known as "the graduate" hospital area is typically a safe one, but this home invasion is concerning. >> it's scary, i have a family and two little girls and my wife at home, if somebody breaks in with us, the same thing could happen to us. >> reporter: the police say even

elite new hampshire prep school was found not guilty of felony rape. he was found guilty of four misdemeanor sex charges. he admits to kissing the girl, but said he didn't have sex with her. labrie will have to register as a sex offender. a tsa agent is charged with sexually assaulting a woman at the newark airport. once inside the, the agent fondled her. faces numerous charges. tsa announced he has been fired. a historic bridge in perkisie bucks county is off limits to certain vehicles, if you drive over the walnut street

bridge chances are you know why. >> it's was cracking all over the bridge. around perkisie the walnut street has become known as the liberty bell you see the trouble underneath. andy is one of two thousand drivers who use the 100 year old span every day and snapped pictures of the 73-pound of concrete that popped out of the bridge earlier this month. >> do you feel safe? >> i don't know how safe i feel. >> i don't feel safe when i am parked on it waiting for the light to turn green. >> reporter: the county own bridge was set to be replaced in 2001. borough officials say penndot puzzle funding. the bridge has been deemed historic it's caught up in red tape. >> when you have a historic resource, there are some groups that would prefer it to be

rehabilitated than replaced. they are going through a feasibility study to see if it can be rehabilitated instead of replaced. >> reporter: the fire department uses the bridge to get from the headquarters on the north side to the calls on the south side. >> if they cannot get across the callowhill bridge they have to go to 2313, 6 miles round rip to get to the south side of town. >> reporter: there are new significant delays to fire response, the federal government said the project likely won't start until 2018. folks around here hope the bridge lasts that long. jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." >> now to politics, former maryland governor martin owe mali has slammed -- male

the packers this afternoon. getting wet this morning, it should clear out in time for the game. we have couple of more showers across the gulf coast states. there's that cluster there. other than that most of the country is nice and quiet. the pattern is about to change. the jet which has dropped to the south across the mid atlantic and the northeast has allowed for the comfortable cool conditions especially during the morning hours, that is pushing off the coast. we'll get another ridge or heat punch high off the carolinas, that means another heat wave is on the way. normal high temperatures 84. we'll see high temperatures 8 to ten degrees above average. erika continues to churn in the carribean. there's cuba and the dominican republic. the center is right there, spinning on them the coast of the cuba. the wind sheer continues to rip

this thing apart. storm system is on life support at this point. the winds at 40 miles per hour. it's barely a tropical storm and it has to go over the mountainous terrain of cuba. the it will be downgraded to a depression and regenerating in the gulf of mexico pushing in tallahassee, pensacola that will be the strike point if it goes on the current track. we have rainfall totals that could exceed 5 to 6 inches in the southern tip of florida. i think it will be remembered for the rains than anything else, the winds will not be too big of an issue. lehigh valley, 86 degrees. jersey shore, delightful on the sand. moderate risk for rip currents. nice sea breeze kicking in,s 82 is the forecasted high.

it's 70 years since the ends of the world war ii a veteran of that conflict helped start a wall of honor for his retirement community comrads, tamala edwards has the story in this week's art of aging. one of the main hallways of britany point estates in lansdale is filled with wartime photos of the so-called greatest generation. >> this would not be here if it hadn't been for me. >> reporter: that would be nick charles, in 1942 a junior at temple university. when world war ii broke out, he wanted to serve and fly. nick was commissioned as a dive bomber for numerous missions and rescued from the pacific and awarded the silver star. >> we took terrible losses. >> reporter: when the war ended

nick came home to start a family and new life. he stayed in the navy for 20 years serving with distinction. when he moved to britany estates in lansdale he built a wall of honor for the world war ii vets. >> that was a generation that gave their lives for their country. this is a reminder of what some people did for them. >> reporter: 173 world war ii vets registered, nick is one of 19 who are still alive and he is proud to share their stories. >> we tell our families, who live in this area, if you would like to bring your grandchildren in here, because we have all the records all the service records and everything is right here. >> reporter: tamala edwards channel 6 "action news."

news," breaking news, one person is rushed to the hospital and dozens of others are driven from their homes after a fire in philadelphia at bustleton section. developing a sheriff's deputy in houston is shot and killed while pumping gas, authorities are calling it a cold-blooded killing. plus, all eyes are on erica, the storm appears to be weak we cannenning after pounding the dominican republic. first, though, let's go outside to chris sowers with our forecast. >> reporter: nine straight weekends we're talking sunshine and comfortable conditions. speaking of comfortable. let's show you the numbers out here right now. this is beautiful. i'm standing out here, there's the slightest breeze out of the west. we have a clear sky and the sunshine is shining down, nice and refreshing. poconos 50. millville, 55.

big time especially in philadelphia. we've seen 28 days so far this year with 90 degrees or higher. we may add 5 or 6 by the time we get through this upcoming week. i'll have the details in just a bit. >> we begin with breaking news, a fast-moving fire forced dozens out of their homes in the bustleton section after 3:00 a.m. the action cam was there as firefighters battled smoke and flames to goat that fire under control. a young man was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. no word on what may have sparked the fire. rescue crews pulled a woman out of the delaware river near penns landing. officials say the woman fell into the river after 4:00 a.m. police have not released the circumstances of how the woman fell into the river. we'll bring you more information once it comes into the newsroom. developing this morning, a massive manhunt is underway in

houston, texas t after a sheriff's deputy was shot and killed while pumping gas, we have learned that authorities have taken in a person of interest. authorities say deputy goforth was in uniform when a man approached him from behind and fired multiple annual shots. once the deputy fell to the ground, the suspect kept shooting. he died at the scene. officials say it appears to be an unprovoked execution-style killing. >> i've been in law enforcement 45 years, i don't recall another incident this cold blooded and cowardly. again, authorities have taken a person of interest into custody no word on their connection to the case. this surveillance image shows a glimpse of the man police think is responsible, but so far no arrests have been made. here at home, a man is dead after a shooting at a highrise apartment complex in camden. shots rang out at the north gate

one apartments on the 400 block of north 7th street. a man in his 20s was hit in the chest. medics rushed him to the hospital where he died. no arrests have been made and there's no word on a motive. a community in burlington county is mourning the loss of a popular middle school teacher, 29-year-old allison mcginnis was hit by a pick up truck and killed. her death comes after one of other own students died a week ago in another accident. >> reporter: the focus of the investigation going forward is why the driver lost control of the truck. meantime, the teacher was mourning the loss of one of her students in a traffic accident when she herself is killed exactly one week later at about the same time. state police identified the woman who was killed while jogging along 206 asal -- as

allison mcginnis from southampton township. she taught english at hell an fort -- helen fort in pemberton. >> she was more than just not just my daughter, but all the the students, she was more than a teacher she was their friend. jamyia passed away from her injuries. yesterday her mother passed by the sight of the accident, she got caught up in another traffic block aid, she learned that her teacher had been killed.

rise. officials say 20 people have been killed by the storm that hit dominica. erika hit the island nation with almost 12 inches of rain in less than ten hours. the sunshine state is still under the state of emergency. >> every family stop and think about your family, your parents, your siblings and kids and grandkids and say how do i get them ready. >> it's almost a decade since a hurricane made landfall. wilma was a category three storm that killed 22 people and cost $21 billion in damage. in new orleans along the gulf coast it's a day of remembrance and celebration. ten years ago today hurricane katrina made landfall. we go live to new orleans with more on the historic city has changed. >> reporter: good morning, eva,

hurricane katrina took hundreds of lives and forever changed many more, but today people are celebrating something the storm couldn't destroy their resilient spirit. it wouldn't be new orleans without a party and this morning there is good reason to celebrate, hundreds more restaurants, a burgeoning tech industry, a billion dollar medical center and higher graduation rates. >> the spirit much stronger than any storm. >> reporter: former president george. >> reporter: bush praised new orleans' school reform on his visit to the city. president obama's visit thursday highlighted the city's recovery. these apocalyptic scenes ten years ago, part of the city under 20 feet of wurt -- water after the levees failed, thousands were left stranded.

yesterday, a delightful 85. now we're down in the 50s north and west. tanersville, 50 degrees, slatington, 57. pottstown, 57. center city the warm spot at 70. cinnaminson, 59. gandys beach 64 and buena, not too shabby 55 degrees this morning. satellite and radar, we keep it clear this afternoon just couple of cumulus clouds later on, that's about it. now there's a system to the west, today is quiet. the system to the west will start to interact with the weather later tomorrow afternoon. some of the showers and thunderstorm activity, most of it should stay across central pennsylvania. this model has some of it pushing across the western suburbs before it fizzles out and we see the cloud cover from it, sunday night into monday morning. we could see beneficial rains at least for parts of the area later this weekend. right now it's the poconos that has the best chance of seeing the wet weather.

tropical storms warning up for bahamas and eastern cuba and turks and caicos islands as erika continues on its journey toward the west. it's passing dominica and haiti it is to the south and will make the turn toward the north and eventually northeast getting into the gulf of mexico. right now it is a minimal tropical storm of winds only 40 miles per hour. so it's barely holding on to tropical storm status. the spaghetti plots are still not in agreement as it continues to show it turning toward the north and some turning toward the west. this would be a worst case scenario the waters are warm here, this storm could have a chance to reform with the waters this warm it could turn into a problem if it takes this track. if it takes this track up through here, the mountains will
