city rebuilding and remembering and planning a big party for tonight. the eagles prepare for their third game of the preseason, a tuneup in green bay. developing overnight a fire chased dozens of people from a northeast philadelphia apartment building. the fire started in the basement of beechwood gardens in bustleton. the fire alarm went off alerting residents to get out. one young man overcome by smoke was taken to the hospital. smoke and water damaged ten apartments. one resident escaped with his wife and is parrots. >> she looked in the hallway and saw smoke. we got out and we have an alarm system that went off. it's a terrible feeling. >> apparently smoke was coming from the basement and raised up through the buildings. >> the red cross is helping residents waiting to learn the extent of the damage.

>> reporter: former president bill clinton will commemorate the anniversary today. in true new orleans fashion a big parade and party tonight. for "action news" i'm bozi kasanani. >> nydia han was in new orleans ten years ago, she brings you that tomorrow morning. a sheriff's deputy was murdered while pumping gas, 47-year-old darren goforth was in i couldn't know form when a -- was in uniform when a man approached him from behind and shot him, he kept shooting him after he fell to the ground. it appears to be an unprovoked

execution-style killing. the surveillance image shows a glimpse of the man police think is responsible. authorities have a person of interest in custody, no word as to how the person is connected to the shooting. so far no arrests have been made. police are searching for the person behind a violent home invasion in south philadelphia and they think the attacker who roughed up and tied up his victim is a teenager. "action news" sharrie williams has the story. >> she is doing fine, of course, natural upset. >> reporter: residents in south philadelphia are rallying behind one of their own as a homeowner came face-to-face with a burglar. it was tuesday early evening when police say a man climbed into an open window of a home in the 700 block of south 22nd street. little did the burglar know the homeowner was home. she walked into the room and startled him. george leon is with the south of

south town watch. >> he didn't according to police to be prepared for an actual home invasion, he used a phone cord we believe to bind her. >> reporter: while the homeowner was tied up, the intruder went room to room stealing electronics, he stole her bike and used it to flee the scene. the tied up homeowner ran down the block to the coffee shop for help. they called police. the neighbor who lives nearby said the neighborhood is a safe one, but the recent theft and home invasion is concerning. >> i have a family and two little girls and my wife at home, somebody breaks in with us, the same thing could happen to us. >> reporter: residents met with police officers from the 17th district the advice that was given even while you're home keep your alarm on if you have one. of course, police are looking

city skyline, it's nice and refreshing. humidity levels will increase tomorrow, really it's monday when you start to notice the change in humidity. comfortable finish to the workweek, we started out close to 90 degrees, actually monday and tuesday had humidity, as well. and then the cold front came through wednesday, thursday, yesterday very nice with highs in the low to mid 80s. this morning we started out in the 40s in the poconos upper 40s and low 50s well north and west, now they are in the 06s. saints dairvetdz davids, 67. boon -- buena, 72 and glassboro, 68 degrees. high pressure planted over top of the delaware valley this morning that's what's keeping us clear from any cloud cover. if you look across the great lake states we have clouds exhibits of moisture that's a cold front that will pull north of the viewing area. there could be just enough

moisture as it swings through close enough to trigger a date late-day shower or thunderstorm across poconos tomorrow. today, sun an clouds, quiet overnight tonight and mainly clear tomorrow morning. just like this morning lots of sunshine expected. the system passes on by to the north. if this pans out, this would be fantastic. we need rain, western suburbs see showers or quick hitting thunderstorm. the only issue, i don't buy into this. this is more up here. within a half-hour's time it's gone, the air is nice and dry and it evaporates all the moisture from the west. if you're lucky you pick up a shower or thunderstorm across the western suburbs, but most of us stay dry. tropical storm erika, the hurricane hunters came in and they found several areas of

rotating winds with this complex of showers and thunderstorms. the main circulation is right here near the eastern shore of cuba. the track takes it like this and towards the north and the east putting it into the gulf of mexico. they expect it to weaken into a tropical depression as it goes over the rugged terrain of cuba, it will reagain rate and push -- regenerate and push i understand understand -- inland. rainfall total over the next three days will range 3 to 5 inches across the southern tip of florida. i think you'll see more in tampa and orlando, as well. i think the storm will be known mainly for its rains as opposed to strong, gusty winds. sun and clouds for the poconos today. 678 degrees, maybe a late-day thunderstorm for tomorrow high of 82. for the jersey shore, the only issue down there this afternoon would be this right here,

firefighters battling wildfires in washington state in oregon are taking on a new threat. a rare, late summer wind storm. winds are fang the flames. -- fanning the flames. the largest wildfire has scorched 22 square miles and killed three firefighters and destroyed 45 homes and dozens of other buildings. the wind storm is bringing rain to towns in the path of the fire.

>> new overnight police are looking for the man who pistol whipped a man on elmwood street. the shooter approached the man after he got out of a car, he pistol whipped the man and shot him in the leg before running off. the victim is in stable condition. a man is dead after a shooting at a highrise apartment complex in camden.

shots rang out on the 400 block of north 7th street around 11:30. a man in his 20s was hit in the chest. medics rushed him to the hospital where he died. no arrests have been made and there's no word on a motive. police in bangkok say they arrested a man in connection with the bomb that killed 20 people. this is video of the bomb tearing through a crowded area. police in thailand raided an apartment used by the suspect. they have not released the identity of the suspect, but they say he ises a foreigner. a news conference is scheduled later today. happening today there's an emergency meeting in paris to rethink train security after a thwarted attack on paris-bound train. three young americans are being hailed as heros after overpowering a man and pinning

him to the floor. questions were raised how someone was able to board the train carrying an assault rifle and amunition and box cutter and gasoline. french prosecutors filed charges against ayoub el-khazzani. a california man is hailed a hero after saving a baby from a fiery crash. three people including the baby were inside the car. 40-year-old who lives nearby heard the crash, ran to the car and found the baby lying in the street. >> i could hear the baby crying. so the wires were going up over the little suv. i got in there, got next to the door that was open the baby is on ground. >> sanchez said he tried to help the other two inside, but the car caught fire.

the baby is expected to be okay. the husband of the woman who survived the shooting on live tv in virginia is sharing details of what happened to his wife. chamber of commerce director vicky gardener was being interviewed by allison parker and her photographer adam ward. the three were caught off guard and shot by a former station reporter. >> he shot three times at my wife and she was trying to dodge everything, he missed twice and then she dove to the ground curled up in a ball that's when he shotter her in the back. >> both parker and ward died at the scene. gardener remains hospitalized after undergoing two surgeries. the shooter identified as vester flanagan shot and killed himself while on the run from police.

at helen fort middle school. >> she had an impact on her students. >> reporter: in recent days mcginnis was mourning the loss of one of her students who was injured in a traffic accident august 2. her mom who spoke with us by phone said mcginnis was the first to come visit her daughter in the hospital. >> she was more than, not just my daughter, but all the students. she was more than a teacher, she was their friends. >> reporter: the girl passed away from her injuries on august 22. yesterday she went by the site of the traffic accident and got caught up in a traffic blockaid on 206 it was the site of where her teacher was killed. >> i was shocked that her teacher passed away at 2:00.

along cumberland and beat street along the delaware river. a suspected drunk driver is behind bars after hitting a bicyclist riding along the benjamin franklin parkway. this was the scene logan square after midnight. police say a man and woman were riding bikes when the car hit the woman. the impact threw the woman from the windshield to under the front wheels of the car. firefighters pulled the woman out before rushing her to the hospital. the woman is in serious condition. former pro bowl wide receiver and philadelphia eagle irving fryer is trying to clear his name. earlier this month, a burlington county jury convicted him in a mortgage fraud scheme. he salt down with rick williams to tell his side of the story. >> i did not do this. >> a sentiment former nfl wide receiver and form 6abc sports analyst repeated over and over during our interview. >> i wasn't awear of what he

the spaghetti plots, what they will do is take the storm north of cuba and reform it once it gets to the florida keys and eastern portions of the gulf of mexico. it may redevelop into a tropical storm before it makes landfall in the panhandle of florida. this will probably stay nothing more than a remnant low that will bring beneficial rains to the peninsula and the island of cuba. even the torrential downpours, 6 to ten inches of rain that the dominican republic and haiti just saw, you won't see them that intense. sun and clouds, 86 degrees is the forecasted high for allentown and bethlehem. jersey shore, sunny, sea breeze kicking in later this afternoon. 82 degrees, uv index is extremely high. make sure you're applying the sunscreen. be on the look out for the rip currents. make sure you're paying close
