converge on the delaware valley, but the air is so dry dry, the shower activity will never make it into the delaware valley. a lot of it will evaporate. 3:00 p.m., 89. 6:00 p.m., forecasting a high of 90 degrees. looking ahead, the humidity increases. another heat wave is on the way. it will last along time and on top of that it will stay dry. i'll have the details in just a few minutes. >> now to our breaking news, a police officer was shot in delaware county responding to a report of a suicidal man. it happened at the mohawk apartments in norwood. trish hartman is live following the story all morning long and at crozer-chester medical center in upland where the officer was taken. trish you have more on the officer's condition. >> reporter: nydia, the officer was identified as mark hanley a

police officer with the ridley park police department. police say it started when officer from several departments responded to the mohawk mannor apartments in norwood around 1:00 a.m. for the report of a suicidal man. officers were speaking to the man through the door of the apartment, when he fired shots through the front door hitting the officer in the chest and the legs. he was wearing a bullet proof vest which deflected the shot to the chest. he was pulled to safety by other officers and rushed to crozer crefort medical center. the -- crozer-chester medical center. the apartment building was evacuated, the residents are back in their home. we spoke to the chief about the risk officers face when responding to calls like this one. >> you go in blind, you don't

know what the person is thinking they are not in the right state of mind, they can do anything, it's a high risk for an officer to respond to. >> reporter: police say the suspect was shot in the elbow and taken into custody and to the hospital for treatment and psychiatric valuation. he will be charged at the norwood police department. mark hanley with the ridley park police department is in stable condition at the crozer-chester medical center. trish hartman channel 6 "action news." >> police in cumberland county are investigating a deadly hit-and-run. police say the man was hit by a pick up truck around 10:30, the 18-year-old driver went home and told his parents he thought he hit something. his parents called police who took the teen in for questioning. there's no word if charges will be filed. mean thyme, -- in the meantime,

officer took an intoxicated woman into custody after driving through the road block at the scene. police think the driver that hit this couple was drunk. the driver hit the couple's car causing it to flipped over. both the victim and his wife had been freed from the car and taken to the hospital where the man died. a man has been charged in the capitol murder of a killing of a sheriff apes deputy in texas. shannon miles has been charged with shooting darren goforth who leaves behind a wife and two children. a family friend got choked up while reading a statement from his widow. >> he was loyal, fiercely so and he was ethical, the right thing to do is what guided his

of once tropical storm erika. the whites and greens those are the thicker cloud tops. look toward the upper left-hand side of the screen. you can seem the curly cue spinning in a counter clockwise fashion that's drawing all the moisture up the peninsula from miami and jacksonville and orlando you'll see three to five inches of rain. there's no storm surge, the winds are not too much of a factor. 20, 30, miles per hour. just a good soaking for the state of florida. honestly we could use that here in the delaware valley. unfortunately we have a huge area of high pressure sitting over top of the carolinas that will prevent the moisture from getting up here. looks like we stay dry for the next several times l several days. millville, 75. atlantic city, # 5. allentown, 71. along with the building heat, the humidity will become a factor later this week.

cloud tops. you can see most of the action pulling out of the cuba into the florida keys and into southern florida. the spaghetti plots take it up the spine into the peninsula and the southeast states. it will have a hard time getting into the north because of an area of high pressure. unfortunately we'll mills out on much -- miss out on much-needed rain. this is what ripped up tropical storm danny and now erika. this is wind sheer, the winds blow in the opposite direction in which the wind is traveling. in an el nino year we have a ton of sheer in the atlantic and the caribbean. there's a storm coming off the coast africa, once it encounters the sheer it gets ripped apart and doesn't look like a threat to the u.s. mainland. >> here's back to school tips.

police say he is in stable condition at the crozer-chester medical center. it started at 1:00 a.m. when officers from several apartments responded to mohawk mannor apartments in norwood for a suicidal man. they were speaking to the man through the front door. >> the subject opened the door, the officers tried to get in, at which time the subject closed the door and shot through the door. >> reporter: the officer was wearing a bullets proof vest and the vest deflected the bullet but he was shot in the leg. he was pulled to safety. the apartment building was evacuated as officers tried to take the suspect into custody. norwood police chief said responding to calls like this one are risky.
