>> sunday night, i'm sarah bloomquist, walter has the night off. breaking news. an off-duty officer is killed in a motorcycle crash in northeast, philadelphia. plus a baseball fan is killed when a tumbles over the railing at atlanta turner field during a game. and we begin with breaking news out of northeast philadelphia, where an off duty philadelphia police officer has been killed in a hit-and-run. this happened just about an hour ago on the roosevelt boulevard at devereaux street. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live now on the scene with the very latest. annie. >> and sarah, philadelphia police confirmed this was of off-duty police officer that was on his motorcycle. you can see it still remains here at the scene as officers are still out here processing the scene at roosevelt and devereaux.

this happened around 4 p.m. that is when the off-duty police officer on his motorcycle collided with a vehicle on the roosevelt boulevard. again at the intersection of devereaux. we are told that medics rushed the off-duty officer in critical condition to aria torresdale hospital where he was pronounced dead 5:00. , just a short time later of the vehicle he collided with took off and was located soon after the crash near bustleton and harvestton and police tell us an arrest has been made. now, we're still learning details about that arrest. again, we're told that vehicle did take off at the time. they're not releasing the name of the police officer, but they do tell us that he did work out of the twelfth district. this is another big loss there for the philadelphia police department it was just last sunday i was reporting on another off-duty police officer that died in a crash. that was sergeant rafael ali. this is another police officer that died in a crash.

of course, we're waiting for more information about the details of the investigation. we'll bring them to you as soon as they are available. for now reporting live in north east, annie mccormick, "channel 6 action news," sarah. >> a story we'll be following throughout night, thank you, annie. to delaware county now a very close call for a police officer there. the officer was shot twice by a suicidal man overnight. his bulletproof investigate saved his life. >> this is what happens. thank god for the investigates. >> showing his wounds on the front lawn 45-year-old ridley park police officer mark hanley ais amazed. the 14 year veteran and married father of two was shot twice once in the chest his bulletproof vest caught that one and once in the leg. that missed vital organs and bone. >> twelve hours late to sand here, someone was looking out for me. >> this man, darryl berts fired the shot that hit the officer.

it all started when the call came out just after 1 a.m. for a suicidal man inside a norway wood apartment complex in 600 block of hoe hawk. hanley and partner tried talking to burt. >> the subject after a few minutes opened the door and officers tried to get in. at which time the subject shut the the door and shot through the doors. >> the swat team moved in hanley fellow officers pulled him out of harm's way into an ambulance and police evacuated the complex while bert remained arms inside. >> i heard the shot and came back to the living room and then i heard flashing light and came out here. >> we ran outside, what is going on? >> a cop got shot. >> the standoff ended with burt shot in the elbow and officer han lynn is known for his service. he's a lifetime member of the fire department and serves as a chief. he is shaken and plans to go to work as soon as owe possible, with his vest.

>> it's something we always are told it could happen at any time. >> bert was atrained this afternoon. bail set at does 50,000 cash. >> in south jersey a teenager is questioned in connection with a deadly hit-and-run kletion involving a pedestrian late last night. police say the 69-year-old victim took a cab to a diner in vineland. when the restaurant turns out to be closed he decided to walk home. he was crossing delsey drive around 10:30 p.m.. that's when a pickup truck struck and killed him. the teen being questioned told his father he thought he hit a deer. no word on whether charges will be filed. >> action cam was on the scene in north philadelphia after a car slammed into a storm front west lehigh and north 9th street. this happened noon today and the business, which is a tax filing center was not on at the time. no word tonight on any injuries. and a little league team from outside harrisburg put up quite a fight today in the
