the newest trove of hillary clinton's e-mails released overnight. >> from the mundane to those deemed classified 7,000 e-mails have been released. our political unit poring through the documents all night. >> abc's bazi kanani is live in washington, d.c. with what's been uncovered. good morning, bazi. >> reporter: good morning, phillip. good morning, reena. now there really was no smoking gun from this release but clinton's critics are still pouncing saying it only further proves she should have never been using a personal account for government business. the e-mail controversy still swirling around hillary clinton. the state department releasing another batch of her personal e-mails monday night, 7,000 pages, 125 of them censored because of information that is now classified but was not at the time the e-mails were sent. also revealed, at least one analyst at the state department's computer help desk didn't know about clinton's personal e-mail account.

republican candidate seems to be picking up steam here, republican carly fiorina was in third place in that monmouth university poll at 10%. reena. >> a lot of those folks trying to get in the top ten with that debate with fox news. thank you so much. also, breaking overnight, severe weather cutting power to thousands of people in arizona. >> a line of strong thunderstorms roared through arizona last night dumping more than an inch of rain in less than an hour and shut down sky harbor airport and damaged the roof of one of the terminals. high winds snapped utility poles in some city streets looked more like creeks than roads. the flooded roads stranded a number of drivers including a mother and her 1-month-old baby girl. she had the sense to pull over and get out of the car. firefighters took them to safety nearby. in south carolina, more than 100 families are out of their homes after nearly 6 1/2 inches

of rain fell on charleston. 3 to 4 feet of water flooded homes and closed streets and a mudslide closed a major highway. well, you can see that storm system swirling off the coast of south carolina. the remnants from what was tropical storm erika now making its way into the atlantic. the family of a woman killed on a san francisco pier in july is filing a lawsuit. the death of kate by an undocumented felon from mexico sparked outrage among those to be named in the suit being filed today are the san francisco sheriff, the bureau of land management and immigration and customs enforcement, the gun the suspect used was stolen from a land management agent's car. we're learning more about the suspect charged with killing darren goforth ambushed last week. shannon miles who appeared in court yesterday spent four months in a psychiatric clinic after being found mentally incompetent to stand trial. president obama has condemned

goforth's murder calling it affront to civilized society. he was shot 15 times. his funeral this friday. new images confirmation that isis has destroyed one of the most significant pieces of architecture in the world. the before and after images show that main buildings of a 2,000-year-old semple in the town of palmyra is gone. there were conflicting reports about the extent of damage to it. last week we learned extremists blew up another ancient treasure nearby. a county clerk in kentucky has lost another round in her fight against same-sex marriage. the supreme court refused to hear the case brought by clerk kim davis. she has refused to issue licenses to same-sex couples on the basis of her religious beliefs. davis has now lost at every level in federal court. gay couples who have been turned away before say they will meet davis at the door this morning. well, president obama is in alaska to deliver a message about climate change. it's real and action is needed

now. later today he'll go hiking on a glacier as he announces steps to make sure the u.s. can operate in the arctic year round. they include new coast guard ice breakers and more funding for scientific missions in the arctic to observe climate change. most investors are happy to turn the calendar to september this morning. the dow jones industrial average lost nearly 1200 points in august, both the dow and the s&p 500 were off more than 6%. it was the worst month on wall street in more than three years. and investors are still worried about china's economy and the fed's interest rates. labor day travelers will see falling gas prices. the average price for a gallon, $2.51. that's down 13 cents from last week and nearly a dollar cheaper than this time last year. >> good news. still ahead,ny new connection uncovered between lack of sleep and the common cold. virtual visit. pope francis delivering his first message to the american people before his historic trip
