keeps it from being unbearable. it's hard to believe, though, that this weekend is finally here, labor day weekend. this is unofficial end of summer. everyone we talked to plans to do that, soak every last minute of this up before they have to go back to the real world and back to school. the sun is smiling down on ocean city today. >> we're just hanging out and enjoying the sun. >> favorite thing to do is probably go in the water and build sand castles with my brother. >> we're just enjoying the beach. going in the water, playing in the sand and just enjoying the day. >> reporter: but a cloud is hanging over these kids and their parents. this is their last weekend at the shore this summer. >> i'm happy and sad 'cause i love school and i love the summer. >> one last hurrah. we need to be able to say, you know, summer is over but at least we can spend the last couple days here instead of at

>> that's true. >> let's get a check of our holiday forecast. >> over to adam joseph live at the big board and praying for good weather this weekend and monday, too. >> yeah, all of the pressure has been put off my shoulders. this is going to be a perfect holiday weekend. in fact, today another hot day. we were expecting it to only be in the 80's but the sunshine really took control again today, so we excelled to 93 degrees which is a record tying high for this date in philadelphia. the old 93 was from back in 2008. this marks the day six of the present heat wave and the 34th time philadelphia has hit 90 or better this year. as we take a look at the heat index, the numbers have started to come back down. that northeasterly wind trying to do its job to dry the atmosphere how. feels like 84 in allentown, 81 in wilmington with storms there. 87 in millville but it still feels like 92 in philadelphia and at the shore mid 80's presently. as we look at double scan live radar we have a couple of downpours and thunderstorms

scattered through the region. this cluster in central parts of chester county moving away from west chester in that northeasterly to southwesterly direction near route one heading towards oxford. 32 lightning strikes in particular area and then up in the lehigh valley, five lightning strikes here and you can see a downpour around route 100 between macungie and bally and also on the split of 78 and as you hit that northeast extension south of allentown near schnecsville. this is a cold front trying to push through. high pressure to the north dewpoints dropping into the 40's and 50's and that will siphon in that dry air for the upcoming holiday weekend so it will be an amazing holiday. warm temperatures, sunny skies, low humidity. alicia we'll show you those numbers coming up in that full accuweather forecast. i want to hear no complaints at all this weekend. >> nothing. >> exactly. >> okay. remember, you can take

>> at this point i'm barely keeping my head above water. two or three cancellation as day, two or three new rentals. >> reporter: brian runs the 44 room roadway inn in center city. he says conflicting information from the papal visit officials has so confused would be pilgrims his bookings have gone from a high of more than 90 percent to now just about 50 percent. he says out of towners are canceling because they don't know if for instance, their car can be parked in this nearby garage. >> we've gotten two answers. we can use the garage if we get the cars in thursday or friday by 6 o'clock. recently we were told the garage has to be emptied friday. so, we don't know really what to tell those guests. >> reporter: frustrated he's offering discounts to local businesses who want to keep staffers nearby so they don't have to navigate any center city congestion. across town a bright spot. amtrak said today it is adding 41 trains during the papal weekend both for the northeast corridor and from harrisburg.

that will add about 35,000 extra seats. some of the trains are being leased from railroads in new jersey and maryland. >> some of our extra trains will actually operate using new jersey transit or marc equipment and we'll also be adding a stop at hamilton where we don't normally stop in hamilton, new jersey, again, through an agreement with new jersey transit. the name of the game is to be able to move as many people into and out of philadelphia so we can get people to the event. >> reporter: they're also monitoring reservations and if there's more demand they'll put more cars onto some of their existing trains. now back to that online release of 30,000 tickets to the public in order to see the pope on the two days he's here in september. that online event it was take place on tuesday and wednesday. we were hoping to pass on some of the nuts and bolts of where you have to go and how you sign up for all of that. unfortunately we haven't got that information yet. hopefully we'll have it at 6 o'clock when we return. live at 30th street station, john rawlins channel6 "action

afternoon. access to it blocked off on surrounding streets. going to be closed now most of it through monday morning. the inner drive through tuesday morning. definitely a spot to avoid. you've got gridlock around the area, septa bus detours as well. it's a mess anywhere around the ben franklin parkway as we get ready for made in america. also watching a crash on the southbound roosevelt boulevard near bridge street in the inner drive. that's a good spot to avoid. normal delays at this point on 95. if you're headed do you know 95 in delaware and southbound past the newark tolls there's a crash taking out three lanes but surprisingly delays there headed toward maryland don't look too bad at the moment and down the shore on the garden state parkway northbound past the great egg tolls, watch out for a crash just pushed off to the side. let's grab the ipad do the commuter report on this friday afternoon before a holiday weekend. this is not where you want a crash. 42 southbound in deptford. luckily it's minor in nature but plenty of slowing leading toward it on the southbound side of 42 headed down the shore this afternoon. we'll check it again, brian and alicia, coming up in the next half hour.

[cheers and applause] it was a day filled with cheers of joy and cheers of support outside the county clerk's office in rowan county kentucky. william smith and james have been trying to get a marriage license since june when the supreme court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage. after six visits to the clerk's office, today they can finally move forward. >> this means everything at least for this area. civil rights. >> reporter: meanwhile the

county clerk kim davis is spending her second day in jail. a judge held her in contempt of court for refusing to issue the licenses. davis who has been married four times says she's denying the licenses because of her religious beliefs. that led to a tense encounter earlier this week. >> why. >> under whose authority. >> under god's' authority. >> reporter: today her husband says she has no regrets and no plans to resign. >> yeah i've spoken to her over the phone and she's in good spirits. she will be there until however long it takes. >> the judge in this case plans to revisit the issue next week meaning davis will be in jail at least until then. he said he's watching to make sure the other clerks in the office continue to issue licenses to gay couples. >> thousands of refugees have begun walking from hungary's capitol heading west now that staying at home is just too dangerous. those refugees began marching from budapest vowing to reach

the austrian border on foot. that came after hungarian police blocked them from taking trains. most of these refugees are syrians who are trying to escape a bloody war. they're trying to eventually reach germany or other places in the west since hungary is more likely to return them to their home countries. meanwhile in syria the two-year-old boy whose lifeless body has become the symbol of the migrant crisis was laid to rest today. he was buried along with his four-year-old brother and his mother. all three died when their boat capsized while they tried to cross from turkey into greece. the two-year-old's body washed up on shore and that image has gone viral on social media. the father of that family survived the accident and was there for the funeral today. >> well, the economy added fewer jobs than expected in august but unemployment is the lowest it's been in years. the august jobs report showing the u.s. added 173,000 jobs last month. that's far lower than the

218,000 expect of expected. but the unemployment rate fell .2 of a point to 5.1 percent, the lowest since march of 2008. this is a key report for the federal reserve which is expected to debate raising interest rates when it meets in two weeks. and look at the closing numbers on wall street. red arrows across-the-board not the way we like to start a holiday weekend here. the dhow jones losing 272 points. at one point during the day it was down more than 300 points. the nasdaq down about 50 points and the s & p 500 also down about 30 points on the day. kraft heinz is expanding its recall of kraft singles. the company says a problem with the packaging is affecting 10 times as many cases as originally thought. the company is now recalling 335,000 cases because a thin strip of the plastic can stick to the food. the company says it has gotten five reports of people choking because of the problem.

the company recalled an additional 36,000 cases of singles back in july so take a look at what you're serving before your holiday barbecues this weekend. >> you got it. and speaking of the weekend, time to get a check of what is in store weather-wise. >> and over to mr. popular, adam joseph with a look at the holiday forecast. making some friends on this one. >> that's only because the weather is going to be so nice this weekend. as we look at sky6 live right now in cape may, you can see the flag blowing pretty good here. you got to watch the rip current risk this weekend. the wind is going to consistently pull in out of an easterly direction. that will pile up the water. it could create some rip current risk and it's going to keep the water warm so watch that. as we're watching some of the folks enjoying a very nice afternoon at the shore. as we head inland it's been a couple downpours around on double scan live radar. there was a loved near glassboro and salem parts of cumberland county that swung through central and southern parts of delaware but those have pretty much fallen apart. right now we just have a

couple left over in south western parts of chester county here moving away from unionville, just a couple of lightning strikes with this particular storm. it's just some brief heavy rain as it's passing over 41 and then south towards route one and oxford and also near georgetown and quarryville, a little flareup there with some red and some heavy rain but again, most of us dry this afternoon. as we take a look at this september heat, we were 95 on tuesday, 93 on wednesday, 96 yesterday, 93 today. to have four straight days in a row with temperatures in the 90's for the beginning of september, you have to go back 42 years to have it start that warm with four consecutive days of 90 or above so it's pretty rare to see a string of hot temperatures like this in september. as we look at the winds, you can see them funneling out of the east-northeast right now, 13 trenton, 13 allentown, 16 miles an hour in philadelphia, 18 miles an hour on the boardwalk and that wind will eventually help dry us out with respect to the

humidity tonight and the weekend. and as we look at satellite it's a cold front swinging through. that cold front will continue to migrate to the south and west as we go through the rest of the overnight hours. as we take a look at the game of the week here for high school huddle, yes, football is back. partly cloudy rather muggy and the game of the week the golden hawks versus the falcons at 7 o'clock, 79 degrees and then dropping to 73 at 10 o'clock tonight. then beyond that, as we get past the midnight hour temperatures will drop into the lower 60's, a little better up in the lehigh valley than the last let's say five nights, 69 on the boardwalk, 68 in dover and it does turn comfy and clear after a few scattered evening thunderstorms. saturday showing tomorrow morning sunshine takes control. that's the trend as we go in the afternoon. hardly a cloud in the sky so as we take a look at the weekend kickoff here in the city, low humidity, 85 tomorrow, breezy, bright at the shore, 77 and in the poconos sunny and pleasant with a temperature of just 76 degrees. your four day at 4:00

problem with their roadside tributes. >> but we begin at 4:30 with a search for a gunman who shot up a frankford home. nearly a dozen shots were fired and at least two hit a young man and a pregnant woman. vernon odom talked to the mother to be. he's live in northeast philadelphia with more on this story. vernon. >> reporter: brian, at this hour tonight, a team of detectives from the northeast detective division are scouring lower frankford trying the find those two suspects who opened fire last night on a pregnant woman and her male friend. it is quieter than normal here along the 4100 block of paul street today. last night around 10:00 it was trigger happy chaos. two people are shot in front of this house police say when two gunmen opened fire for from around 30 feet away. a 23-year-old pregnant woman was wounded a 21-year-old man was also hit. police say there were a total of 11 shots fired.

both victims were rushed to temple hospital. he was in surgery for hours overnight. both will survive. she is eight months pregnant. the unborn child as far as doctors can tell was not harmed. here's the voice of the female victim. >> sitting down. then i heard gun shots and i got shot. after i got in the house, i realized i got shot. the baby is fine. >> reporter: no problems with that, hm? >> no. >> reporter: police say the suspects fled in a white cadillac. at this hour detectives are looking at surveillance video from around the neighborhood as they try to develop more leads. >> two guys and they see one with a gun. we do believe there was two different caliber guns out there from the evidence that we collected. >> reporter: brian, tonight police say they will release that surveillance video when they have enough that will be helpful to them in getting the word out to the public. in the meantime they would like the public's help to help solve this crime. live in northeast

philadelphia, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "actiochannel6 "action" >> vernon thanked thanks very much. philadelphia police looking for two men who viciously beat a plan outside a liquor store in juniata has month. surveillance cameras captured the assailants back on august 17th. then without warning the men ambushed him. police say the vic testimony was not only kicked and punched, he was hit in the head with some kind of object. he was treated for injuries to his head and face. if you recognize either suspect here or the tow truck one of the men arrived in, please call east detectives. >> we're learning more now about the deaths of a jersey shore family earlier this week. authorities in monmouth county have now confirmed that 35-year-old linden bahari fatally shot his girlfriend and their two children before setting their long branch home on fire on tuesday. police say he then turned the gun on himself. prosecutors have officially

ruled the deaths of 29-year-old amanda morris as well as her four and seven-year-old sons homicides. investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the murder-suicide. a bicyclist remains in critical condition after being lit by a car in bucks county this morning. chopper 6hd was over the 2200 block of street road in bensalem. that's where the accident happened just after 9:00 a.m. though police have not released many details, they do say the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. >> the parents of a lehigh county woman killed in a crash are once again distraught after someone removed the roadside memorial in her honor. joan and albert dicky dixon say they've maintained the memorial here at lower macungie township since their daughter alexandra's death back in 2007. it stood at the spot where the 21-year-old was fatally struck by an suv. but this past sunday, they say they noticed the whole thing was gone including a cross that was posted more than

12 feet high. in its place this note. they called it distracting and dangerous. the township says it has no ordinances that prohibit roadside memorials. >> we have developing news out of texas right now. firefighters have just rescued a teenager from inside a locked safe. before noon the 16-year-old somehow locked himself in the unused safe at a high school in santonio. firefighters drilled holes through the safe and set up a fan to provide air circulation. it took them about three hours to get the teenager out. he was not injured. no word on why he was in there in the first place. >> that's right. now he's got one heck of a story to tell. >> uh-huh. >> all right, let's talk about the weather because that's pretty much the best story. >> it really is. >> labor day weekend going to be flawless from start to finish. lots of sunshine, dropping humidity and temperatures stay a little above average which isn't a bad thing because you

still have that feeling of summer. the highs so far for today, 90 in the lehigh valley, the same for lancaster, 92 in wilmington and 91 in millville. a record tying high in philadelphia of 93 degrees. the front was a little slower, the sun was a little more abundant but to the north and east trenton and toms river only in the low he to the mid 80's which should have been across much of the area today as that front progressed through a little bit quicker. so, the heat wave continues but not for atlantic city as we take a look right now, 81 degrees there but very tropical feeling with your dewpoint at 75 degrees with that wind out of the east at 11 miles an hour and that easterly wind will keep those water temperatures very warm the entire weekend. 78 off the new jersey coast, 80 off the coast of the beaches in delaware and in the bay, near 80 degrees, so that's the good part of hitting the ocean 'cause it will be warm. however, with that easterly wind all weekend, there will be a moderate risk for rip currents so just watch for that if usual heading to the

shoving one another to the ground. fortunately none of the kids were injured in all of this. two teenagers in north carolina are learning a very serious lesson about sexting. they were facing felony charges and a 17-year-old could be required to register as a sex offender. he's accused of sending his 16-year-old girlfriend naked pictures of himself. but many are questioning the law because the 17-year-old is being charged as an adult for exploiting a minor himself. the sheriff hopes this case is a lesson to other kids. >> it's not something that the sheriff's office targets. it's not something we're going to target but if it's something we come across it is a violation of the law and we're going to charge somebody for it. >> now, the 16-year-old was facing similar charges but she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge and agreed to a year probation. her boyfriend's court date is set for later this month. >> to big talkers now and a straight couple in tennessee wants to get a divorce but the judge is saying no dice.

man and wife have to stay that way. why? try to follow the reasoning. the judge in hamilton county say it's because of the supreme court's ruling on same-sex marriage. the judge claims the supreme court's decision on same-sex marriages has "derailed tennessee's ability to determine what constitutes marriage and weakons tutses divorce and is asking the highest court in the country to clarify when a marriage is no longer a marriage. safe to say he didn't agree with that decision. so, the couple is going to try to file again. maybe with another judge but his suggestion to them when he wouldn't let them get divorced, try and reconcile. not sure how that one is going to work out. to ohio where the city of dayton is apologizing to a man who says he was wrongfully pulled over for making eye contact with a police officer. that officer, though, says he didn't signal properly before turning. >> i'm not doing nothing. >> okay. >> because i have a plate,

headed down toward the a.c. expressway and eventually the shore and the good news is our crash southbound by route 41 that we mentioned during the last half hour that was on the shoulder is now completely out of there so cross that off the list. but in delco on 95 northbound by 452 there's a vehicle fire. fire crews on the scene taking out the left lane giving you slow speeds coming out of delaware headed towards the blue route. vine street expressway eastbound by broad street the crash is completely off to the side. doesn't matter. still jammed in both directions here along the vine and of course the ben franklin parkway right there is still closed. now inner and outer drives and even more closures take effect because of made in america starting tomorrow morning. so, already septa buses are detoured but the subways will be running every five minutes this weekend. they're trying to help tout get to the concert. let's give you a little good news. on the ben franklin bridge westbound side, as i mentioned earlier in the week, the right lane has reopened after having been closed all summer. that's going to help us out as we all head back to school next week and in norristown the northbound lane

a lot of clouds around and a few of those downpours, temperatures there in the upper 70's. high pressure is anchored right now in southern parts of canada on the border of northern new england. that high will be the muscle maker and really squash a lot of the cloud cover and that humidity to the south and west through your saturday. so for tonight, it's still muggy through the first half of the night slowly dropping humidity after midnight. partly cloudy, 61 to 69 degrees. and we'll call it holiday perfection with that dome of high pressure over new england and the midatlantic creates sinking air. you can't get clouds to form when the air sinks. that's a good thing here for the next three days. if you inn you're heading to the shore a moderate risk for rip currents so watch that. listen to the lifeguards. 77 degrees because of that persistent wind coming in off the water so it will be very breezy at the shore throughout the weekend. is that knee, beautiful, upper 70's the next two days, 81 on your labor day, and if you're heading into the mountains,
