homes because of a large fire. the overnight crash on broad street that damaged 6 cars. the big news is labor day tragedy in center city. a man and woman both in their 20s were both killed. annie mccormick joins us more with more. annie. >> reporter: and rick, that's right we did talk to police at aid, they are not releasing the names. victim but they are from the philadelphia region, but they were in the city this weekend specifically to see made in america festival. just after 4:30 a.m. police responded to a grizzly scene at broad and afternoon. this cab hit two pedestrians, a 25-year-old man and woman. the impact threw them 100 feet from the taxi. the woman was pronounced at the scene the man died shortly after

at the hospital. a witness said the taxi driver was going 50 miles per hour 25 miles per hour over the speed limit it is not confirmed just yet. >> allegedly, and again, this is preliminary, the witness approximated their speed being over the speed limit. that has not been confirmed. >> reporter: the 41-year-old cab driver stopped and was taken to the hospital due to chest pains. he is cooperating with police, they are awaiting toxicology results from the blood work. >> the good thing here, he didn't leave the scene. he did the right thing, he didn't make it an apparent crime by not leaving the scene. he stayed there. >> reporter: and police said this is very early in the investigation. we did reach out to rosemont cab company who owned the cab involved in the accident.

they had no comment. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> developing news from southwest philadelphia where a fire has damaged five homes. the blaze happened at 9:30. one person was injured in the fire, red cross is helping 22 residence from the five homes who were affected. the cause is under investigation. a woman was shot with a bb gun on kelly drive hit in the leg walking near boathouse road in fairmont park after midnight. she noticed a group of four or five men standing beside a water fountain when she was shot in the leg. police believe it was a random attack. police are looking for the vandal of vandals that flipped a car. they lifted the car around 4:00 a.m. nobody was hurt. several cars were damaged

and a driver was arrested for dui after a crash on south street. the driver slammed into two vehicles causing the vehicles to smash into four other parked cars. the impact was so strong two vehicles were stuck together and the tow truck had to pull them apart. nobody was hurt. it's a warm and sunny labor day as we check the scene out from sky6 live hd showing you the view at the jersey shore, the beach is packed in atlantic city. a lot of folks are soaking up the unofficial end of the summer. let's head outside the studios to david murphy. >> reporter: lots of sunshine, there's limited cloud cover anywhere around the mid atlantic region. you have to go south of washington torched -- torched to find that. there's a slowly approaching cold front toward the east that will not have any impact on us

the attack. a texas woman is charged in the murder of a dentist in a dallas parking garage. kendra hamper was shot to death when she arrived home last week. crystal cortes has allegedly confessed. she reportedly told police she was paid five hundred dollars to drive the gunman to the scene. >> she was so helpless she couldn't do anything, they just shot her. >> cortes is being held on a capitol murder charge. police are looking for the shooter and other suspects. the kentucky clerk who refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses is fighting to get out of jail. she stopped issuing all marriage licenses in june after supreme court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.

a federal judge ordered her to begin issuing the licenses and found her in contempt when she disobeyed for religious reasons. the minnesota dentist who killed cecil the lion in zimbabwe broke his silence. he said he had known of the lion's significance he would have never hunted. he shot and killed it with a bow and arrow. else expected to return to his dental practice tomorrow for the first time since june. one family's weekend holiday was interrupted during a vacation in california. a 3-year-old boy fell into the skimmer and trapped in up to his waste. crews had to use an electric drill to chip away the concrete.
