is 10,000 more papal tickets in now in circulation, just after 4:00 this afternoon, 10,000 tickets were released for the festival of families, and tickets to the mass on the mark way will be put online for sale tonight and they started to sell pope francis merchandise tonight in center city. this is a means to help pay for the cost of world meeting of families. live on the parkway is david henry, what about the tickets released late this afternoon. >> reporter: you know 85% of the parkway is open to the public but you need the tickets to get in the secure zone down there, where the 10,000 tickets were up for grabs at 4:00 and they went within two minutes, 10,000 tickets for the saturday event went in a flash with

is "action news" reporter, sara bloomquist. >> reporter: jim, they were sworn to guard the city's prison, and now are looking at years behind bars themselves, accused of smuggling drugs and cell phones to inmates in prison it turns out the inmates and supposed drug suppliers were working for the federal government. >> today the u.s. attorney announced the indictments of two current and two former correctional officers. alarmed by an increase in contra ban, city prison officials asked the fed to investigate. >> after seizing these cell phones and drugs we knew we noted assistance. >> prisonerers working for the

federal government undercover asked for cell phones and drugs. >> during the meetings the reported associate handed the cash payments and the defendant smuggled the contraband and delivered it to an inmate. all six are charged with attempted extortion and attempted distribution of controlled substances. >> the philadelphia prison system has no place for staff that uses their power or position for criminal acts. >> he represents former prison guard mark thompson, whose mother is a former philadelphia police officer. >> it's a serious case and people should not bring those types of things in the prison but we don't have enough information now to indicate where we'll go as far as defending this case. >> now, the drugs were just placebos and not real, today three of the six defends entered

not guilty employee pleas sentencing guidelines should put them behind bars for three to four years, i'm sara bloomquist, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you sara. 42-year-old lamar poole, the philadelphia police officer killed in a hit and run crash was laid to rest today. mourners gathered at the first district plaza in west philadelphia for the funeral service, police say that poole was off duty when a vehicle struck his motorcycle and the driver was capture aid short distance away and charged with homicide by vehicle and dui. teachers in the upland school district were paid today. more than 300 teachers and staff agreed to return to work and return to school last week even though the district said they could not meet the first payroll but the paychecks came on time

today because the state covered the district's debt. congressman chaka fattah has taken to the internet to fund his defense. he was indicted on racketeering and fraud charges, legal bills are mounting and now fattah is crowd funding to fight the charges, the house economics committee approved the fund. he will use the contributions to hire the best lawyers to defend his name and work in congress. fattah's trial is scheduled for may. this coming saturday, the federal judge enforcement administration wants you to clear your medicine cabinet of unused or expired prescription drugs and take them to a designated drop-off point and it's called take back day. >> reporter: please don't think this is not happening in your

life. somebody you know is having a problem. tricia stout knows of what she speaks, she lost her 19-year-old, pam, in 2010 to a heroin overdose, it did not start there it started with an addiction to prescription drugs namely percocet and then oxycontin. >> she died in her grandmother's home. >> it's not a drug addict on the corner anymore it's our own kids. >> she speaks to teens and parents at schools about the growing academic of opiate drugs leading to heroin. >> it's a gateway to opiate addiction in this country because there are so many prescription opiates left in the medicine cabinet. >> i don't know how to not be her parent anymore even though she is not here. this is my way of doing that.

new at 6:00 they have dug up an impressive chunk of history in burlington county, new jersey. nora muchanic has the story. >> reporter: when construction crews in burlington city began digging next to memorial hall on high street, they did not expect to find this, four and a half foot long 1500 pound cannon. >> it will start to corrode over time. >> archeologists for historic

preservation came to examine the cannon, they say it was probably on a water vessel. >> it's not unusual to finite manies that date back this far. >> it may have been a decorative cannon they had at one time and just covered it up. >> the city owns the property and is home to american legion post 79, crews were digging to make a wheelchair lift to make the building handicap accessible. they are putting the project on hold to figure out exactly what they got here and if more excavation is needed. >> we have something here that is potentially historic and looks hist or can. >> there is no guarantee there is not a cannon shell in there, we doubt that but we'll move it carefully. >> the rusty cannon is gingerly

looks like we could get some rain. and we will, august 11 and is the last time philly saw a quarter inch of rain and we desperately need it. most of the area is quiet and tropically humid, a couple of locations with a downpour or two

around, lucky spots in burlington near marlton and north of 70 in medford as well as browns mills east of 206, no lightning with eeshl of these particular downpours, just some brief heavy rain. as you head way south on the garden state parkway, high temperatures, some areas saw records, a record high in allentown of 95 degrees, record tying in reading, 94 in trenton and 90 in wilmington and 90 in millville, down to the south temperatures because of a sea breeze were only in the mid to upper 80s, however sea isle city and places like beach haven and dover were only 85 to 88 degrees, when you factored in the extreme humidity, the southern areas including

millville still felt like 98 degrees, it didn't matter if you were in the 80s or 90s, everybody felt like the upper 90s with allentown and philadelphia feeling like 98 and trenton 97 on this september afternoon. but the beginning of the heat wave started today and ends today, we have a cold front to the northern and west closing in and that will eventually collapse tomorrow and a wave of low pressure will develop along the boundary to enhance the rain around here to turn it on the heavy side by thursday afternoon. but for tonight, tropical feeling just a couple of downpours around and low temperatures overall around the 70 degree mark in much of the area, and the shore the warmest spots near 75, future tracker tomorrow morning, a couple of downpours and scattered showers around to start and morning rush hour on thursday, fairly quiet during the morning hours and lunch time and a little after,
