street station taking out the right hand lane and back to passyunk, the schuylkill expressway is looking clear now and about an hour ago we had a storm on the schuylkill and nice high speeds across the region, where you see the lower speeds is where you see the storms popping up. be careful on 202 and 422 as well as the pennsylvania turnpike, lincoln drive is closed between kelly and rittenhou rittenhouse. taking a look at 95, the northbound lanes of 95 were flooded earlier between the vine street expressway and allegheny, that is since cleared out the way but as we see storms move through again we can expect to see the flooding again. we'll keep an eye on things and bring you an update in the next half hour. >> thank you. there is a new list of america's top colleges and one local school came in at number one and another dropped in the rankings. and hundreds of thousands of people are forced out of their

. from our delaware newsroom, four people were seriously hurt after getting hit by a car in newcastle, it happened at the same spot where someone was hit and killed two weeks ago, police say that a car headed east hit a man and woman at 11:30, that driver did stop but the two victims are in critical condition today police have not yet told us their names. >> police in northwest philadelphia are looking for the people that broke into a home behind a chinese restaurant, it happened on the 5600 block of walnut street, police say that two armed suspects got into the back of the restaurant and stole several items and some cash and took off. police did not say how much they got and no one was injured. still ahead an update on the

taff along with sharrie williams, breaking news from atlantic city, new jersey, the faa says that a small plane crashed into the atlantic ocean just before 3:00 this afternoon, the single engine went down 20 miles offshore and the aircraft was reportedly traveling from michigan to atlantic city airport. it's not clear at this point how many people were on board or what conditions they are in right now, the coast guard is investigating but having difficulty flying helicopters because of weather conditions, stick with "action news" on air and online on this breaking news in atlantic city today. the other talker today. the weather, lets get the word from accuweather. are you looking live at a soupy center city skyline, you can see from the brilliant colors, storm tracker 6 we are not in the clear yet. lets get to cecily tynan. >> it's three weeks since

stormtracker 6 live double scan got a work out like this, we have rain to the west and south of philadelphia, the most intense cell right now is moving out of kent county delaware moving 20 miles per hour into cumberland county and 10 lightning strikes are associated with this, sea breeze and can ton all heading that way, not only does this have lightning and gusty winds it has pretty intense rainfall, we can skip over stormtracker 6 live double scan, and go to the rainfall rates, where you see the purpose, that is where the rain is falling at 2 inches per hour it's not there for an hour but if it was you would get 2 inches of rain, we have a flash flood watch for most of our viewing area, we are looking at the potential for 1 to 3 inches of rain than has caused localized

a manhunt and barnes was arrested in jessup maryland, police used his car's gps device to track him and he admitted to making the victim lie in his trunk bound up. he was lying in the backseat of his car next to his victim. it was revealed that the victim was quote, sexually exploited. the crime started out as a random robbery attempt because he needed money to get back to virginia to surrender to police there wanted for raping a girl in chester city a month before the german town incident. they have agreed to a 35 plus year sentence in exchange for the guilty plea. barnes will not have to -- he wants that 35 yours in prison

deal. rather than an absolute life behind bars, at the federal courthouse, i'm vernon odom, channel 6 "action news." police in camden are still looking for two men that burst into a home early this morning and stabbed a man, it happened on the 1200 block of landsdowne avenue before 4:00 a.m., the homeowner was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and a woman was also in the home but not hurt. police are trying to decide if the crime was random. a new jersey family is out of a home today and investigators say that the weather is to blame. their home caught fire when a fast moving storm caused power lines to break loose. katherine scott explains why neighbors say they could feel the electricity in the air. >> the whole house went up in seconds. >> you can hear the electrical charge pulsing as fire ripped through this barrington home, bob the manager of time-out

sports bar next door started recording on his cell phone. >> that is aluminum siding and it sparked the whole side of the house tonight was like an electrical shield was on the side of the house, firefighters were called to bell avenue at 3:30 a.m. after the passing storm snapped this tree pulling down power lines, when they arrived they say there was no activity or fire, firefighters notified the power company and were then called to another location and while they were gone the wire started to arc again. >> we heard a loud explosion and it seemed like a ball of fire. >> by the time they were back this home was completely energized it appeared that the wire dropped on the ground and hit either a water pipe or the gas pipe and the entire house was energized with electric. and we couldn't do anything until it was secured.

police helped six family members to safety, they were not injured. onlookers say they could feel the charge. >> the house was in an electrical charge like a science fiction movie and the firefighters were here and they were afraid to go in and the ground was burning and the gas was coming out of the ground. >> by the time they were able to extinguish the blade the fire sustained serious damage. in barrington, katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." meanwhile, firefighters in the first state were busy battling this enormous blaze in new casting county, the action cam was there as flames shot from the roof of the townhome on the unit block of christiana drive. it took 13 companies nearly two hours to get it under control. four people were hurt but it's not clear if the injuries were

serious. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. we want to revisit the breaking news we are passing along to you since the start of this newscast, we do have an update on the plane crash, 20 miles off the coast of atlanta city, new jersey, the coast guard tells "action news" that they have multiple resources combing the wreckage scene off the coast, initially there was indication they were having difficulty because of weather conditions but they have three vessels on site and in the air searching for survivors, again this plane a single engine mooney m 20, crashing 20 miles seests of atlantic city, new jersey, from michigan, bound for atlantic city airport. no word at this point of how many souls on board or the conditions of those individuals. three vessels and a helicopter in the air searching for the

now to meteorologist, cecily tynan, flooding is a concern today, the rain is more than welcome. >> we need the rain desperately, we have localized flooding but nothing widespread, all in all this is a good thing, stormtracker 6 live double scan showing that philadelphia and interior south jersey getting a break in the action, we have heavy rain now in parts of newcastle county and kent county, delaware, and this is all really drifting up to the north and east, and 13 lightning trikes in the past 15 minutes, it's producing thunderstorms and severe weather and heavy downpours, farther to the north
