to savor every last second. and pope francis touched down on american soil. it was not just that crowd there to greet him, at the bottom of the step was the president and first family. and now the pope's visit is underway. tuesday night, jim is off and i'm brian taff. the big story on "action news" is the arrival of pope francis. tomorrow he will be in washington, and then off to new york city. and then it all wraps up right here. we have team coverage tonight. dann cuellar with more on the crowds already arriving in philadelphia. and annie mccormick with details on the late ess esst round of t. and rick williams and monica malpass spent the day in washington. >> good evening from washington, d.c. we are at catholic university where they are preparing for much-anticipated papal mass tomorrow. >> as many as 25,000 of the faithful are expected to attend. this is his 10th foreign visit,

pope francis with a speech on immigration and really just freedom right there on saturday afternoon. trucks hauling concrete barriers arrived on city avenue tonight. they will be put in place for the city avenue closures taking place on saturday and sunday. the northbound side will be shutdown from lancaster avenue all the way to the schuylkill expressway and the southbound side shutdown between belmont and lancaster avenues of the pope does not arrive in philadelphia until this weekend but thousands flocked to the city for the world meeting of families. the conference, which is the reason that the pope is coming in the first place got underway today. and at the basilica of st. peter and paul tonight you have the story from there. >> that's right. the city packed with pilgrims from all over the world endescribing the sights and sounds. for many of them it is a spiritual event which began this evening with a mass of the world meeting of families. ♪
