bursting with excitement. >> reporter: brian and sharrie pope francis is expected here in new york city in a few minutes but the security for his visit is already in place, nypd has an extra 6,000 officers on the street and 3700 miles of barricades and 2500 feet of fence for a visit that is expected to last 39.5 hours. people are ready to see pope francis in new york city. the way it's set up it will be hard to see him. >> we hope to see him. i want to see him in person. >> streets were closed down causing major gridlock and the pope is expected to attend a prayer service at saint patrick cathedral, where tickets guests will file in to greet the pontiffs. in times square people can't help to share the excitement. >> it's like going to the movies, but a lot more electric. >> he wants the best for the

world, he is politically motivated. earlier pope francis spoke to politics, being the first pope in history to speak to a joint meeting of congress. >> i am most grateful for your invitation to address this joint session of congress in the land of the free and the home of the brave. hospitals moved into high gear for their preparations for the pope's arrival. one has a new app, allowing patients to make virtual doctors visits if they can't get this there in person. >> extra supplies are arriving for days and at pennsylvania hospital they inflated 500 air mattresses for workers staying over and for parents of infants in the neo nato care unit. the details are endless. >> when we started out we had a list of 187 tasks or issues we needed to address and we are now down to five, eight portable shower trailers are moved into the university of pennsylvania, and pen presbyterian hospital.

it's hospital has $1.25 million in extra medication, a four or five-day supply and they are offering language translation services. meanwhile at jefferson university hospital, they launched their new just connect app just in time for the pop's visit. jefferson is inside of the traffic zone and they explain if patients cannot get to them they can see patients via a mobile device, anybody can sign up and sign on for an emergency visit. the app is best for your urgent but not emergent. >> runny noses and cough, and some people have diarrhea or

his ministry, but don't get too used to this scene. the pope will not be on the ground much longer although he may get in the car, he is just making his way over to a helicopter for the short hop into manhattan for that leg of this historic journey and the mass at st. peters and st. patrick's in the heart of manhattan. the helicopter is the same helicopter marine one that the president used to fly back and forth from the white house and joint base andrews. >> as we look here again, it's the young children, the children have truly been a priority on the steps where he has landed. to be greeted, they are being sure to include young people and it appears from where we see the expression from pope francis, he has so much joy when he sees the

young people and vice versa, the young people are cheering him on and we are aware that a group of high school students are to sing a classic song from sinatra, new york, new york. we are anticipating that will happen at some point. not the kind of song you expect to hear in church but the song you expect to hear in streets of manhattan. this papal visit thus far the smiles and ear to over grins, many priests and bishops and religious lay people that are ecstatic and besides themselves to greet this man. that is the scene from earlier in washington, d.c., where there is division andderition in recent weeks and months, no matter the aisle, they were overjoyed to see this pope today and some of them were brought to

tears by his mere presence and his remarks that were not sheepish, for a lack of a better word, he ventured into some controversial areas here. we hear the cheers as he makes his way through the crowd that are eagerly awaiting him and many are waiving the vatican flags, there is the pope, he emerges himself into the crowd and doesn't hold back at all, if the camera was to give us the vision of him to the right, he instanley hugged the first person there, people gravitating to this pope without a doubt. >> everyone is trying to get the papal souvenir, the selfie with pope francis, we'll continue our live coverage now that the pope has arrived in new york city.

center in center city. >> thanks vernon. >> some people are trying to get an aerial picture of pope francis, but the faa wants to remind everyone, drones are not allowed. the no drone zones are in effect here in philadelphia over the weekend, not just the parkway, they are banned from the entire city. the flight restrictions means you could land in trouble with the law and perpetrators could facesiveal or criminal charges. a mass was celebrated in saint augustine in center city. they welcomed a large concontinueient from pope francis' city, they were all here from argentina, and mass was delivered in spanish and everyone was invited to a luncheon afterward. merchants laid out a generous spread of food so

city? double scan live radar shows another beautiful fall day, feeling like summer and temperatures in the low 80s and no signs of any precipitation on double scan. 80s in philadelphia right now as well as allentown, upper 70s, lancaster, reading, wilmington and trenton and at the shore cooler with the wind off the atlantic, matching the ocean temperature of 71 degrees, high pressure is to the north and somewhat of a dirty high and typically high pressure is supplied, lots of sunshine. and clouds are busting in from the west and in from the south and in addition to that high to the north we have low pressure to the south spinning back moisture off the atlantic, and winds coming in out of the easterly direction. around this low, and between that low and the high it will send a wind off the water much of the weekend, that will cause beach erosion and coastal flooding, both saturday and sunday. inland though on future tracker
