the pontiff did not neighboring to broadway and he was a hit on 5th avenue tonight as he made his way to st. patrick's cathedral. his journey to america continues. thursday nights and the big story on "action news" tonight is the second leg of the pope's journey that will bring him to philadelphia. the pope flew from washington to jfk airport late this afternoon and the assembled crowd on tarmac called out in joy. somebody even gave the pope a plush golf himself and he seemed to enjoy it even if he was a tad embarrassed. from there it was helicopter ride to the wall street heliport and then back into the fiat and finally jeep rangler popemobile up to vespers at st st. patrick cathedral. let's go to sarah bloomquist. sarah for francis an american catholics it keeps getting better. >> reporter: it's amazing jim,

>> just steps from the officer involved shooting relatives gather todd remember jeremy mc dole he their collective voice expressed sadness and anger. >> anger over this. >> after a 911 call reporting mc dole shot himself police responded to the 1800 block of tulips 3:00 yesterday afternoon and investigators say they found mc dole in wheelchair armed with a 38 caliber gun. second later, four wilmington officers opened fire. >> when mr. mc dole goon remove the weapons from his waist the officers engaged him and as a result of the injuries mr. mc dole sustained he lost his life. >> you can clearly see on there it's overkill. for somebody in a wheelchair you couldn't handle it better than did you it i don't understand it. >> police and state attorney general office are investigating and tonight governor jack markle the city mayor and police commissioner
