we have high, thin clouds, this is not a bad day building. take a look at satellite. we have cloud cover in place, there will be sun breaking through at times today. i love the way the rain trying to push north encountering dry air holding it's grounds south of washington and the state of delaware. temperatures are okay, 63 a little cool. obviously similar numbers to what we've had the last couple of mornings. 59 in trenton. 57 in you're heading out the door early in wilmington. 68 in sea isle city. the winds are not that strong. down the shore 17 miles per hour sea isle city. philadelphia up to 10. we could go as high as 20 with slightly higher gusts as we roll through the day. by 8:00 a.m., 62 breezy. noon, breezy, but up to 71. 3:00 p.m., 75 degrees that will be your high. not too bad. windy and dry today. karen rogers will have the

latest of what's looking to be a diminishing chance of rain tomorrow that's ahead in the accuweather seven day. >> let's hit the roads right now we're wide open on the schuylkill expressway because it is shut down. we see no traffic. kind of an eerie shot. we only see this in snow coverage, nobody on the roads. it is shut down from the schuylkill expressway eastbound to the blue route westbound i-95 to route 1. schuylkill expressway looking live at montgomery drive nothing happening. closed at 10:00 p.m. last night stays closed as is the ben franklin bridge. we can see pedestrians walking about. no major problems going to out on the roads. you see that areas are closed, but seems like people have programmed for that. we were not seeing traffic yesterday. one thing i wanted to point out, the i-95 is open, the other highways and bridges are open. i-95 at cottman very light volume. the closures on i-95 are around

the pedestrian areas that are closed in the city. you're closed from washington to broad street in these areas. >> "action news" reporter, nydia han is live at eakens oval to start the coverage with a unique look at the papal stage. good morning, nydia. >> reporter: good morning, we certainly do have an extraordinary view on eakens oval. we know so many viewers have been anticipating the visit and we've been planning for this joyous occasion. now that the sun is up, take a look at at the stage here. members of the media and security folks and the faithful are arriving. i want to give you a behind the scenes prospective what it's like to cover such an extraordinary event in philadelphia's history. it is 2:00 a.m., our alarms went off at 12:45 a.m. this is the meade transportation center from -- media

transportation center from here we'll be wanded for security. we wanted to make sure that we would make the 4:00 a.m. bus in plenty of time to broadcast at 5:30 a.m. we're first in line, so we'll be on that. 3:05 a.m. i want through the metal detecter and from here we'll board the media buses. 4:15 we're on the bus for the parkway. take a look outside this has to be the safest most secure place in america. erin o'hern is here. we're rolling right now heading to the parkway. you can see the streets are clear, we have a police escort. we pass a number of jumbotrons along the way. there are 40 of them set up along the parkway so people can get a clear view of what's happening.

happens. >> reporter: the pope is is expected to arrive at 9:30 and go to saints peter and paul for a mass. >> this afternoon he'll deliver a speech on immigration from independence hall and the papal parade on the parkway followed by the festival of families at eakens oval. >> pilgrims who have been waiting to see the pope camping out in south philadelphia. these parishners are from the archdiocese of newark, new jersey. they stayed in tents. others stayed inside the church on the 2300 block of south 18th street. they will get up and get going and make their way over to where katherine scott is, live in logan square with a firsthand look at security and anticipated crowds there. >> reporter: it's early but people are here along the parkway. some were curious, others are

here because they want to get a good spot for when the pope arrives. some are here for the festival of families and others are waiting outside the basilica. they want to catch a glimpse of pope francis when he arrives to celebrate mass this morning at the basilica. there are concession stands and benches in the area. this is a popular spot to grab breakfast, you might see seem clumping their coffee it's a similar spot for people to hang out and congregate as they wait for the pope's arrival. look at the view, you can see this beautiful shot of city hall and the pilgrims making their way up the parkway. this will be a long day for some of these pilgrims. they walked here to go through security and making sure sure they have a prime spot to see the pope.

i've heard people talking about the energy in the city. the thousands who are here during the world meeting of family and those who stayed the weekend to hear the pope's message in person, even if they have to stand far away they say they want to be here and their families to be here to experience the moments with the other families from around the world. you can see people on the parkway this morning. it's going to be a long day, we've seen people bring chairs with them to make the wait a little more comfortable. but people are excited to see the pope this morning to celebrate mass, they are waiting aby the basilica. they are gathering. thanks, katherine. >> thousands plan to make their way to at this time on septa's regional rails. our john rawlins is among them,es live at the paoli train station, good morning, john. >> reporter: good morning, this is the paoli train station, you're right, thousands are

expected to use the septa rails. thousands will be using the train system to get into philadelphia. the busiest station will be here at paoli. it's been a slow start. we have still pictures from earlier today before the sun came up. the first three trains went off with 150 people each. it's been a slow start. the last train departed with 200 people. we'll have a big build as the morning goes on. let me scene set to your right my left is the train platform. the fourth train left five minutes ago, septa personnel is here ready for the next crowd to build. this is the staging area. if you're familiar with the train station you know this is the parking lot. no cars here today. the pill gramtion -- pilgrims will come to assembly. this square will hold 900

stairway. the red carpet has been rolled out for his arrival at 9:30 a.m. over here 40 yards to my left you see a group of people who have gathered for the pope's arrival. these are family members of the band the shanahan high school band that will be performing for pope francis from doylestown. there are 100 band members that will be performing for the pope. the delegation that is greeting the pope will be led by archbishop archbishop chaput. governor tom wolf and frances wolf and mayor nutter and lisa nutter will be here. one family was chosen to be here for the pope's arrival that is richard boyles who was shot in the line of duty 2008 in a north philadelphia shootout that killed his partner, 30-year-old

morning, alicia. >> reporter: go togood morning,t and tam, speaking of bishops, archbishops and cardinal's are arriving at the basilica of saints peter and paul. the crowd is slowly building there's a lot of excitement people have slept here on the the grounds in front of the basilica overnight just to get a glimpse of the pope as he comes in. they are coming from countries all over the world. about two thousand people will get a seat, two thousand lucky people will get a seat inside the basilica for the mass, they include people of faith across the region along with families, newlyweds this being the world meeting of families, some of them will be celebrating 50 years of marriage. that's a beautiful thing. we've been showing you this beautiful art installation outside the cathedral basilica. it's called the knotted grotto.

barriers on the edge. i was watching live as someone drove up, they got their security clearance and drove through, the schuylkill expressway is wide open for only emergency vehicles, it shut down from the blue route to i-95 westbound from i-95 to route 1. we're seeing the barricades and tents in place. the ben franklin bridge was closed at 10:00 p.m. last night doesn't open again until monday at noon. we're watching people get out and walking about. pedestrians only on ben franklin bridge. people are saying can i take the walt? yes, everything else is open. of course we have so many closures around the city. refusing -- reviewing that from south street to girard and delaware river to 38th street. this affect also mass transit -- affects mass transit, as well.

celebrate mastectomy afternoon. celebrate mass tomorrow afternoon. within a few hours this will be packed with the faithful. pope francis is expected to arrive around 7:00 p.m. for the festival and parade down the parkway around city hall in the famous popemobile i'm going to step up here, i'm on the shorter side, i have to step on a riser so you can see me. he likes to keep the popemobile open so he can see the people. i'll head over to katherine scott she is in logan square people are gathering there, katherine. >> reporter: they are, the pope's arrival is several hours away, but people have been coming here for hours, some people never left, they wanted to be here overnight they wanted to see the pope today.

as you look at the basilica there there's a group that's gathering hoping to catch a glimpse of the pope as he enters the basilica. there's been spontaneous singing, we've heard clapping, swell. people are here feeding off the energy of each other in logan square. people em who don't have -- people who don't have tickets are hoping to see him. i spoke to one woman from mount laurel. her mother is here from brazil. she said this visit so special and what it means to as many people. >> it's a dream to see the pope, because my mom come from brazil for this movement. we come very early get the train to be here, to see like 15

excitement continues to grow at atlantic aviation as we get closer to the pope's arrival an hour and 45 minutes away. behind me, the stairway is set up, shepherd one will taxi up to that at 9:30. to my left you'll see a crowd that has begun to gather. these are family members of the shanahan high school band from doylestown that will be performing for the pope upon his arrival. the mayor will be here, the governor, a police family, an officer who was shot and wounded in the line of service back in 2008. he will be greeting the pope and handing flowers to the pope with his family. all in all, they are expecting an joyous occasion before he finally departs about 15 minutes later to the basilica saints

the process of making their way to center city on septa's regional rails. >> our john rawlins is among them at the paoli train station. good morning, john. >> reporter: good morning, tam, some of the pilgrims behind me are coming through the security and getting ready to board what will be train number five to depart this morning from paoli. we have a slow start as i said about a half-hour ago. some of the trains only had 100, 150 people. the crowds are starting to build. this train will go off 350 to 400 when it departs. so people are starting to roll in here. so still not quite the numbers we anticipated.

i think there are about 7,000 reservations from out of paoli today. we'll see bigger numbers as the morning goes on. we spoke erl -- earlier with a number of pilgrims, one of them from grand rapids, michigan. >> it's a historic moment something we always wanted to do in our life. we didn't get a chance to see pope john last time he came to the united states. my mom saw him in puerto rico. so we have time to get over here and hopefully we can see him. >> reporter: they should have a good chance of seeing him. they have tickets i believe that will get them into the red zone they will be there early that's for sure. folks are building up, they are getting ready to depart the one train in a minute or two. these are happy pilgrims on
