making news in america this morning -- heading home. pope francis arriving in rome this morning after his historic trip to america. the final moments before departing. and the wave from his plane. we're live with the details. >> good morning, it is 4:00 a.m., monday, september 28. the ben franklin bridge reopened 15 minutes before they said it would. we have other spots to tell you about. >> one is the benjamin franklin parkway for a massive clean up a after the parade and mass, we'll have live team coverage. >> the eagles won, fans are breathing easy after aevaluating the jets for an 0-3 start.

eventually. i'll have that coming up, karen. >> reporter: it's nice to talk about roads and bridges, looking live at the schuylkill expressway. it has reopened, it reopened last night. this is the ramp to the vine which is open at this point. the vine street expressway open and looking good. we see flashing lights off to the side, some of the ramp also closed. the vine street express way opened, the ben franklin bridge open, the schuylkill expressway open, the vine open, the ben franklin bridge open. we have regional rails running on saturday schedules, the regional rails you can take them today, but they are on a saturday schedule. all the stations have reopened in the area, they are make lg all the regular symptoms. there's a lot going on with traffic we'll walk you through it one step at a time.

last night we found many folks walking across the ben when it was still closed as we did throughout the papal weekend, many heading back to their cars parked in new jersey after attending the papal malice. officials say the accelerated opening of the ben franklin bridge should allow for a normal commute of the bridge, they planned to open the bridge as quickly as possible after the pope's visit. the september tap is operating on a saturday schedule keep that in mind as you head out the door. we found plenty of riders exiting the broad and pattern street station after pope francis celebrated mass on the benjamin franklin parkway. septa officials estimated 40,000 passengers were brought into the city yesterday. with a lot times were estimated about an hour getting on the subway. about 700 volunteers helped to

guide people to their trains which helped tremendously. worshipers say despite the wait to get home they had an unforgettable experience. >> mass was incredible, i'm getting goose bump also talking about it right now. it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. >> it was one of the best experiences i ever had in my life. i'm glad i drove 6 hours 0 to get here and see the holy father have mass. again, septa regional rails are operating on a saturday schedule, patco is using a special schedule today and if you use the ben it's opened to vehicular traffic. >> thank you for that. with so many people in town for the papal visit, philadelphia international airport is feeling the rush. the lines going through security were longer than usual.

travelers were asked to arrive 3 hours before international departures and 2 hours before domestic departures. katherine scott is on theted she now? >> reporter: if you take a look at the parkway, you can see it's pretty empty. there are crews breaking down all the structures that have been up. we have seen the occasional car come through, coming by slowly. there's work being done here, mainly the vehicles we're seeing along the parkway are fork lifts. there's water pallets on the side of the road. crews were bracing down the seating. thousands of chairs set up for

people with tickets. many thousands more stood, but they are making progress. while work is being done, roads are opening up, as well. penndot opened 76, vine street expressway is opened, but there are ramps closed. crews are taking out all the barriers from the weekend. as that happens we'll see more and more roads open back up. some are open, but there's a lot of ground to cover. a lot of trash to clean up along the parkway. they are waiting for the sanitation trucks to get that done. pleasant of work left to do. by way of traffic we're mainly see forklifts, every now and then we'll be seeing cars come through, if you come through use caution because there's a lot of work being done. live along him parkway, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> now, pope francis left

behind so many memories for so many people who florkd to -- flocked to the parkway. he rode in his pope mobile before his final parade before the mass. the mass capped speaking to sex abuse victims. the 78-year-old pontiff is the first jesuit pope. the mass was the centerpiece hearing the words of the pope his scripture and homily was special. >> i enjoyed when the pope asked for people to pray for him. it's humbling and shows the type of person he is. >> pope francis is an amazing man, he is so humble. the way he lights up when he see children. it is wonderful experience. >> france spent ten days in the western hemisphere visiting cuba, washington, d.c., new york

city and philadelphia. >> not long after the mass, the pope made his way to philadelphia international airport. vice president joe biden left the send off delegation, before he boarded the plan he said a heartfelt farewell. it was -- it is hard to leave, pray for me, i pray for you, too. >> here's what it sounded like from the cockpit of the plane, shepherd one. >> thank you for everything. we're waiting for when prayer force one will be back from rome.

and we still have no limits on carbon pollution which can lead to more asthma attacks in children but senator toomey has voted repeatedly to let polluters keep releasing unlimited carbon pollution into the air. and took more than one million dollars from the polluters. tell senator toomey to vote for the clean power plan, because unlimited pollution shouldn't be a right. but playing outside should be.

i-95 the split to the vine, the ramp to the vine street expressway, still closed. the vine itself is still open. i talked to state police, it's a process, the vine is in the process of reopening these ramps. you got to be careful did you see that guy. >> reporter: stop at stop signs, don't try to rob a bank, there's a lot of things you should not do. 64 in philadelphia, 61 in quakertown. we're milder, south jersey, low 60s. same thing in the state of delaware. if you're running errands, early is the time to do it. as we get to noon we'll be up to 78 and the high is 83 and it will be muggy and slight chance of a spotty shower. >> only "action news" was there
