visit planning. accuweather is tracking rain and cloudy conditions throughout much. week. the big story on "action news" this noon is the money mental cleanup effort -- monumental cleanup effort after the pope. now roads are reopening, security barriers are coming down and crews are picking up the trash left behind by hundreds of thousands of people. we have live team coverage as the city returns to normal. karen rogers will have street closures and transportation issues coming up. let's begin with katherine scott on the benjamin franklin parkway. >> reporter: hi, rick, this time yesterday the parkway looked different it was packed with people, now it's cleanup time. they have made a lot of progress, there's work left to do. the cross street of the parkway is open, there's lots of equipment and vehicles they are

breaking down, quite a bit of stuff all the fences and structures, all the infrastructure to clean up after yesterday's papal mass. cleaning up after hundreds of thousands of people is not easy feat. crews are out today trying to restore the parkway to it's prepope appearance. >> i'm honestly really impressed how fast they are cleaning things up. >> i thought it would be worse than it is. i didn't think i would be able to walk through the streets. >> reporter: streets department vehicles are clearing away the trash and the debris the crowds left behind. while many roads are reopening, much of the parkway is closed including eakens oval while crews breakdown equipment to pack it away. for some getting to work wasn't easy. pallets of water sat in piles on

the parkway. wawa handed out water for free to keep people hydrated. word got out about the free water and people parked their cars and loaded up, bringing baby strollers and dollies to help with transport. dwayne said he is taking his water to the church to help the homeless. >> this will help our cause. >> reporter: and back here live on the parkway, by 21st street there's a few people walking around, there's a lot of pilgrims in town taking a look around the sites of philadelphia. they meant to get a look at the parkway now that it's opened up. as you take a look at the parkway you can see there's a lot of stuff left to do. crews have been working since the papal mass ended, it took weeks to put it all up, it will take a little time to take it d.

scot scot channel 6 "action -- . some streets are shut down and public transportation is getting back up to speed. karen rogers is here with the latest on traffic and transit. >> reporter: rick what we have seen is the progression of this moving faster than we were told it was. this is one of the last places schuylkill expressway completely open as well as on and off ramps. the ben franklin bridge is open. also 676 northbound and the admiral wilson boulevard leading ben franklin bridge. no problems here. we have the vine street expressway open, as well the ramps that has improved over the past several hours. regional rails on a saturday schedule they are making all symptoms, that's a change from the weekend. it's getting back to normal. 20 minute delays expected across the board with regional rails.

subway is running on time, but it's a weekday schedule, 5th, 15th, city hall reopened things back to normal there. patco is on a special schedule uncomfortable be programmed for that and some -- prepared for that, the septa buses still detoured in places along the benjamin franklin parkway. new jersey transit access link suspended that doesn't go back until tomorrow. the rest of the new jersey transit is looking okay. this is the so-called traffic box area, early when we went on, three-quarters of it has been taken out. right now we have broad street restricted in front of city hall. they have staging there. and the benjamin franklin parkway we have restrictions there, they have started to open the outer drive, inner drive in some of those areas. i talked to the police a little

bit ago. they told me most of the area is all opened up back now, the main issues remain on the benjamin franklin parkway. the changes with mass trans i want will be more regular starting tomorrow morning. >> meantime the pontiff left philadelphia last night. "action news" was there for a final wave goodbye before he boarded shepherd one. he told reporters the united states surprised him, especially the warmth of the of people. he is back at the vatican hopefully getting much-needed rest after an historic 6 day three-city tour. the world meeting of families was the original reason for the pope's visit. organizers thought it would generate sales of $390 million. some philadelphia business owners say they did not reap the

benefits. mark vetri said he was thrilled about the pope's visit, but he was not happy that they rolled up the carpets to welcome everybody who visited, but rolled us up out of view david henry will have that story at 4:00 p.m. mayor nutter told reporters there were few calls to the business resource center over the weekend which he said it was a good indication that businesses had very few problems. he touted it as a big success. >> city of philadelphia and our region will be basking in the glow of this successful event

and series of event for months and years to come. >> philadelphia's archbishop charles chaput celebrated a an exciting weekend for catholics and many others who enjoyed the papal visit. vernon odem is live from at this time this afternoon with more. hey vernon. >> reporter: hi, rick for the most part, the afternoon -- afternoon -- archdiocese leader is calling the week a-okay. this morning after all the festivity, the philadelphia archbishop found a new challenge in the wake of the world meeting of families. >> from the prospective. church the most important work of the world meeting of families begins now. i heard almost a million people, more than a million people.

>> reporter: the archbishop said there were 20,000 registered delegates at the congress tripled the previous record. >> some of our friends who tried to come were trying to get in when it was almost over. >> reporter: the arch bishop said the pope was towmped by his reception in philadelphia over the weekend. he was challenged by the reporters on the sincerity of the pope's apology to the sex abuse. the archbishopstled at that and acted like he was almost insulted and gave a terse answer. check back with 6abc.com as the roads reopen and the cleanup

continues. you'll find more on the events and the pope's historic visit to philadelphia. we're following news from montgomery county where police are searching for suspects in a deadly home home invasion. it happened on 2300 block of philmont avenue. officers found a shooting victim critically injured on the front lawn. the man was taken to abington hospital where doctors pronounced dead. anyone with information contact lower lower moreland police or montgomery county detective's. voters are deciding whether to raise taxes in 7 new jersey school districts including longport, atlantic county, northern burlington county regional animal eagles wood and island heights in ocean county. taxpayers decide whether to support $100 million in school construction and renovations. any work approved by voters will be eligible for subsidies from

a couple of weeks, dewpoints are moving back up. upper 60s in dover, millville, the airport in atlantic city. 69 in trenton. 71 in cape may and we are turning muggy, anything over 60 is considered humid. as we look at the rest of the afternoon if we can manage to get sun out from behind the clouds we have a shot of 83. if we stay socked in we'll be in the 70s. a muggy 71 overnight tonight which sets us up for another unseasonable warm afternoon tomorrow. rick, in the forecast starting tomorrow and especially overnight into wednesday there's a chance of much-needed rain i'll show you that on future tracker 6 coming up. >> there's much more still to come on "action news" at noon. it is sentencing day for the women who helped two convicted killers who escaped prison in new york. three boy scouts survived a plane crash. find out how they walked away

joyce mitchell sobbed in court and lives with regret everyday. the judge ordered her two to eight years behind bars. the state of new york had to pay nearly $23 million in overtime to authorities during that 20 day manhunt. richard matt was eventually killed, david sweat was recaptured and returned to price prison. world leaders gathered at the united nation to address the middle east. president obama and russian vladimir putin will meet face-to-face to discuss a peace plan in the ukraine. we'll have that story live from the u.n. on "action news" at 12:30. republican presidential

frontrunner, donald truck sailed he will reduce rates for lower and middle income families and corporations. meantime the latest poll numbers show carson is gaining on trump. marko rubio and carly fiorina are tied for third at 11% each. cnn said it will allow joe biden to make a game day decision. he can declare his candidacy the day of the schedule october 13 debate and participate. hillary clinton, bernie sanders and martin o'malley and jim webb have been invited. three boy scouts assigned up to take a 35 minute flight on a beach craft plane in order to get their aviation badge. the pilot was a member of the church the boys attend. everything was planned until they were two miles from landing

rain coming this week, it is much-needed, huh? . it is, there could be a decent shot of it especially overnight tuesday into wednesday. storm tracker 6 live double scan shows we're dry, just a little blip here or there. we could have an isolated shower popping up in the center of burlington county and pushing inland. as we look outside we have a beautiful picture in fairmont park of one of our many colonial structures across region. the only thing that could make it better if there was sunshine pouring down the buildings. we have not seen much of that today. 75 degrees, the dewpoint is 67. it is definitely muggy out there and more so than it's been in a while. winds out of the east/northeast at 8 miles per hour. 75 in wilmington. 72 in trenton, allentown and reading and lancaster. up to 79 in millville. down the shore we're getting into the upper 70s.

there's a shot we get up to 80 or above that across the region before we done this afternoon. satellite and radar is showing how the clouds are trying to thin out much to have the west. him if we punch through the clouds well reach the low 80s. the rain is staying out to the west. future tracker 6 is tracking the possibility of light showers up from south jersey and into philadelphia around 6:00 p.m. it shouldn't have a major impact on the commute. up in allentown, cloudy, humid, close to 80 in the lehigh valley. we'll go 79 that may depend on how much sun we get through the clouds. cloudy down the shore, 77 degrees, not that there's a lot of people trying to swim this week, but there are rip currents in the water and that's a significant issue, better to stay out of the ocean. warm and muggy, 83 is the high,

if the clouds win out, a little better today we stop in the upper 70s or 80. today cloudy, a spotty shower can't be ruled out. 71 degrees and humid overnight tonight. and then we get into tomorrow. it looks cloudy to start out through the morning into the afternoon there's a chance of a few more pronounced showers. as we get into later tomorrow night, the shower activity becomes drenching rain. the latest model run has this clearing out fairly quickly on wednesday morning. we'll see about that some models have kept it in play on wednesday. in any event at some point tuesday into wednesday we're looking at a good downpour. 83 today warm and muggy. 83 tomorrow. with showers. hopefully we clear out with most of the rain on wednesday morning that would get us dry for the union cup match at ppl park and the phillies game. low 60s thursday and friday,

now the race is on to get the parkway cleaned up as the city returns back to normal. a philadelphia teenager was killed in a crash after he and his friends took a forklift for a drive. the president obama said he is not holding back in his address at the u.n. the problems he addressed on the stage before a meeting with russia's president. pope francis has come and gone, now the philadelphia crews clean up the mess the masses left behind. the parkway was transformed into a cathedral after the giants crowd door mass. after the crowds disappeared that was all that was left massive trash on the city's busiest thorough row fair. >> reporter: rick it is an all out effort to clean the parkway. looks like they are focusing on clearing the main
