some of the structures are still upright, they're working to get that elevated broadcast booth right there taken down. you can hear the hammers pounding away but these crews have been working around the clock and it appears they have a couple days left. the sounds of blowers, and street sweepers echoed down the parkway this afternoon as crews began disassembling the papal infrastructure. >> should take us four days to get it down and if the weather holds out it should work out. >> reporter: roughly 500 stage hands and other crews will take up the floor boards and bring down the main stage and production facilities. for many of them it's been a busy two weeks. >> the most guys we ever had on one site and it was also the most i guess prestigious thing i ever did. >> reporter: feels good. >> yeah, finally. glad i was part of it. >> reporter: those who live on the parkway awoke to a much different scene. gone were road blocks and much of the trash left behind was cleared, a welcome sight for those looking to get their

also are busy cleaning up today but what a different scene there. you can hardly see any signs of yesterday's papal mass on independence mall. meanwhile the archdiocese of philadelphia is reacting to and reflecting on this past weekend. archbishop charles chaput and others held a news conference this afternoon. vernon odom was there. he's live at the archdiocesan headquarters in center city. vernon i imagine they're taking a bit of a victory lap. >> reporter: they're trying to, brian. by most accounts, the record breaking world meeting of families and the post bombshell visit over the weekend are a source of pride and success but indeed there are critics: as he met with reporters today, philadelphia archbishop hailed the city's overall hailing of the pope's visit and said he felt a deep disappointment of ticket holder whose never got into the parkway mass yesterday because of tight security measures but he was on the defensive as reporters questioned the pope's sincerity after he left with

five local victims of clergy sexual abuse hearing their stories and apologizing later condemning the pedophile priests as he met with hundreds of bishops from around the globe. >> it wasn't a publicity stunt. there was a genuine interest on the part of the holy father to represent the whole church in expressing sadness and apology in cases where there was sexual abuse by members of the church and he sincerely meant that. >> reporter: the archbishop emphasized it was the federal government calling the shots on the metal detectors and searches that prevented thousands of ticket holders from getting into the parkway mass on time. >> i don't criticize but if we had it our way it would have been simpler but our way might not have been the best way because it might have led to disaster. >> reporter: sharrie, the secret service is taking the heat for all the added security this past weekend but they don't care. top police brass sources tell me they didn't buy into it

either but they had no choice but to go along with it. live in center city, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> all right, vernon they had adopted it. that's their perspective. septa is getting back to its normal schedule today. officials there gave us their final tally on the number of people they moved through philadelphia this weekend. nearly 29,000 passengers used regional rail on saturday. 34,000 passengers used regional rail sunday. septa said it also moved more than 40,000 passengers on the broad street line to south philadelphia after the papal mass to get them to parking lots set up by the world meeting of families. >> and so far it's thought that an estimated 900,000 people came to philadelphia for the papal visit but still small businesses tell us they suffered this past weekend. case in point de nick's at reading terminal market tweeting this. never before seen, no line at at 2:30 in the afternoon on a

saturday. at one point the famous sandwich shop posted this is picture saying "if you can get to the reading terminal by 7:00 p.m., you can have all of this bread. help us feel better about this. sad state of affairs for them and other businesses offering deep discounts just to get people in the door. and then celebrated philadelphia chef and james beard award winner mark vetri writing a pretty raw facebook post saying philadelphia officials got it all wrong and cost people a lot of money. he says "instead of engaging the citizen and businesses around this great city in welcoming the pope they have instead decided to roll out the red carpet for everyone making the pilgrimage and roll us up in the carpet to place in storage until monday. today mayor michael nutter firing back. >> this was never billed as, you know, a huge economic impact event or the big money maker. what we said was going back to literally the first question

yellows that's an indication of drier air but two tropical pieces of energy we're tracking one over the gulf of mexico one in the atlantic, this will be impacting our weather as the week wears on. so, we'll talk about what we can expect for the rest of tonight and for the week ahead. a spike in the humidity, you've already noticed that today. two rounds of rain that we're tracking followed by a big cooldown. we'll have all of the details coming up with the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. brian. >> melissa thanks so much. and. brand new at 4 o'clock we know the name of a man killed during a home invasion in montgomery county last night. prosecutors say 53-year-old kevin brown was inside his home on philmont avenue in lower moreland township. he was with his wife and two other family members when a group of men broke in just after 11 o'clock at night. brown was the only one shot. he and his wife got out of the house through a window but brown later died at the hospital. investigators say he was targeted but still have not said who did this or why. >> a woman says her gas pedal got stuck today in king of

prussia and it set off a chain of crashes and eventually caused her car to flip over. chopper six was over the scene just after 12:30 on mall boulevard. police say the woman told them she he could not get the car to stop and that sent her crashing into several vehicles and a pole. she eventually hit the side of the fairfield inn damaging the building and knocking over trees. the good news there, no one was injured. >> now to the "action news" traffic report. as things are beginning to get back to normal around the region this afternoon. >> yes, slowly. let's go live to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. hi, matt. >> hey, guys. nobody is more tired of talking about papal closures than this guy right here. but give me just a couple more days and we should have everything reopened. for now we're still looking live at the ben franklin parkway, a couple tents still up, police still blocking off the parkway as you can see and as chad was telling us basically between 21st street and eakins oval the parkway is shut down. this hasn't been so

problematic today because i think so many people took the day off or were given the day off from work. it's going to prove more problematic tomorrow as more people head back to work and people that normally go down the parkway possible to get to the river drives will have a hard time. for now ben franklin parkway does remain shut down as do some of the adjacent streets. on the big picture though overall volume is pretty light this afternoon. we have had a few accidents, one in holmesburg along frankford at solly involving a bus. had one along allegheny involving a motorcycle but that's clear. on the main line in wynnewood watch out for one along lancaster avenue a at wood win road. in wilmington watch out for app downed pole shutting down northeast boulevard this afternoon between 28th and 30th. stick with market street, business 13 as an alternate. let's grab that ipad do the commuter report on this monday afternoon. not exactly a normal monday as a lot of people still have off

will stop drilling for arctic. the company says it didn't find enough crude to justified continued exploration. the the withdrawal comes six weeks after the u.s. gave the company approval to drill there. shell has been under fire for that project from environmental groups. analysts say this move also shows the company could be preparing for a long period of low oil prices. now a look at the days closing numbers on wall street. a down right missable way to start the work week, the dow off 313 points to close at 16,000. the nasdaq off 142 and a half. the s & p down just about 50 points on the day. >> nasa scientists have strong evidence that liquid salt was there flows on mars during the summertime. the findings come from the mars reconnaissance orbtory. it shows dark narrow streaks that flow. while water is essential to life scientists will have to do some more exploring to see

if any might actually exist on that planet. >> i think we'll have some water on our planet or at least in our neck of the woods in the next couple days as we get a check of the accuweather forecast. >> let's get the details from meteorologist melissa magee in for adam today. hi, melissa. >> hi, sharrie, hi brian. yeah, much needed water across the delaware and lehigh valleys and more than likely you're going need those umbrellas as we go throughout the day on tuesday. currently outside in philadelphia very warm start to our work week. 82 in the city, 82 in wilmington. off to the north and west you have the upper 70's from lancaster up to allentown at this hour. along the coast with some southeasterly wind 78 in cape may. the call from accuweather, we're track something spotty activity. looks like a lot of that moisture will stay north and west of the 95 corridor. otherwise it's warm and humid. dropping down to 63 in allentown, 71 in philadelphia. and 66 in millville for the overnight low. now, fast forward into what's ahead. we've seen a dry stretch so we definitely need the water. the rain we've seen so far not

a whole lot, only two of the last 48 days we've seen more than a tenth of an inch of rainfall. one of those days august 10th we had .13-inches. and september 10th with 4 points 75 and looks like we have several opportunities for more precipitation on the way. here's satellite6 along with action radar. a fair amount of cloud cover overhead. there's a weak cold front off to our north and west moving across the upper midwest dropping across that region. then we have this area of low pressure, this area of tropical moisture out across the gulf of mexico and also some moisture out along the atlantic which is tropical depression 11 and those will impact our weather as we go throughout the week ahead. first we're tracking some spotty activity. future tracker6 showing you 2:30 tomorrow afternoon with that tropical moisture, an area of precipitation that we're tracking coming out of the gulf of mexico some spotty activity as we go throughout the afternoon hours but it looks like the heaviest of that rainfall moves in as we

get into tuesday afternoon and into tuesday night and this will linger as we go throughout the day on wednesday. so, as far as expected rainfall, tomorrow night into wednesday, we're calling for one to 2 inches of rain but looks like we could have locally higher amounts than that especially north and west of philadelphia. and then tropical satellite showing you tropical depression 11 moving at about 35 miles per hour to the west-northwest and this will more than likely impact us as we get into late friday noon saturday. still up in the air as to where that moisture will happen but it does look like we're tracking two rounds of rain this week. the four day at 4:00 showing you it's humid tomorrow an afternoon shower is likely, spotty in nature. 83 its a wet day on wednesday, windy, too, a high of 74 and much cooler as we get into thursday and friday with periods of rain that we will be tracking, guys, so definitely a soggy week ahead. >> all right. we need it. >> we need it. >> yes, we do. >> you agree. >> no complaints. >> melissa, thanks. still ahead, a local worker injured on a tower

foreign diplomats about 1100 pictures of the dead. saudia arabia first said 769 people died. the stampede happened thursday just outside mecca the holiest site in the islamic world. saudi officials say two waves of pilgrims converged on a single narrow road which ended with people being suffocated and trampled. >> from our delaware news room a power plant worker had to be rescued today when he got hurt on a tower three stories high. the action cam was in edgemoor at the calpine power plant. that's where the worker got hurt on a cooling tower around 10 o'clock this morning. firefighters and paramedics were able to get him down and take him to the hospital. they have not told us the man's name or how badly he was injured. >> governor tom wolf officially endorsed his former chief of staff katie mcginty for the democratic nomination for u.s. senate in pennsylvania. wolf hired mcginty after defeating her during last year's gubernatorial race. she is expected to face a tough primary against

congressman joe sestak and braddock a pennsylvania mayor -- braddock, pay mayor john fetterman. whoever wins will take on sitting republican senator pat toomey. >> pennsylvania turnpike officials say they are planning to test a program that would make busy interchanges completely cashless. the turnpike will try the system at the delaware river bridge in bucks county and the beaver valley expressway in western pennsylvania next year. drivers will either use their normal e-z pass or have their license plate scanned by cameras then pay a monthly bill. the turnpike commission chairman says the cashless system will need upgrades to the interchanges as well as safe guards to protect driver's data. a proposed pipeline through 118 miles of pennsylvania and new jersey. they gathered at the penn preserve in mercer county. that's one of the properties

and we still have no limits on carbon pollution which can lead to more asthma attacks in children but senator toomey has voted repeatedly to let polluters keep releasing unlimited carbon pollution into the air. and took more than one million dollars from the polluters. tell senator toomey to vote for the clean power plan, because unlimited pollution shouldn't be a right. but playing outside should be.

>> we begin with details about a forklift accident that claimed the life of a teenager last night. john rawlins talked to the young victim's family dam he joins us live from wissinoming with more on what we learned about this today. john. >> reporter: hi, brian. a family is absolutely heartbroken this is the 5100 block of comly. last night a group of five to six kids ages 12 to 14 entered the building behind me. inside they found industrial fork lifts which could be switched on. the kids started driving those fork lifts. there was a collision and a boy died. a grieving family trying to get details of the incident that caused the death of a 13-year-old family member ethan shoemaker. according to police and family he and a group of friends entered this industrial space crawled under a fence and according to a uncle through a hole in this fence and entered through this yellow door which was said to be unlocked. at that point the group came upon several fork lifts which they drove.

when according to a boy who was there but asked not to be shown on camera, there was a collision. >> ethan stopped and the girl, she swerved and the forklift, it got pointy things on it so it tipped over and he was trying to get out and his head, everything was smushed. >> reporter: ethan shoemaker was pronounced dead at the scene. upset family members believe the property should have been better secured. >> kids are going to be kids. it should have been more -- well more secured,. >> reporter: better he secured. >> better secured. it's a multi million dollar company. >> reporter: newman paper put out a brief statement saying in part it was saddened by the loss of life but added there was an ongoing police station. the family described ethan at will as outgoing and at times adventure some. >> he was always there. you could say you're not his friend but he would still be

there for you if you need him. he was tough as nails. >> reporter: well, there is an ongoing investigation by detectives into the death not clear if anyone could be charged in this case. osha has been in contact with police but at this point it does not believe to be that this incident is within the jurisdiction of that federal agency. live in wissinoming, john rawlins, channel6 "action news." >> a sad situation, john. thank you. a montgomery county man is facing a number of assault charges in connection to a horrific case of child abuse. the district attorney's officers says nicholas knocked three teeth out of a four-year-old boy's mouth back in july. when the mother returned and found her son severely injured, she went straight to upper perkiomen police. after investigating the case police determined kernechel not only punched the child intentionally he had also abused the boy in the past.

his bail has been set at $100,000 cash. well, police are investigating an accident involving one of their truck enforcement vehicles in wynnefield. officers tell "action news" the police suv and another car collided on city avenue near bryn mawr avenue just before 1:00 this afternoon. both the officer and the other driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. it's not clear yet, though, how the accident happened. >> now to meteorologist melissa magee with the accuweather forecast on a day that much like the rest of the weekend cloudy but rather warm today. >> it was very warm today. >> and humid. >> and humid. we talked -- >> our hair. >> the humidity is sticking around as we go into the next couple of days guys and we have some changes on the way so we'll show you those clouds. here's sky6 live in hd looking at the center city skyline. it is mostly cloudy. we have seen pockets of sun, enough sun to get our temperatures in the lower 80's. currently it's 82 in philadelphia. the dewpoint at 66 so that's where that humidity comes in.

security barriers. people who live in fairmount were relieved to see many of the roads already clear this morning. >> i'm honestly really impressed with how fast they're cleaning everything up. i kind of thought that it would be a lot of more hectic walking to work and it hasn't been. you still can't really get down the parkway but it's better. >> they're doing their best. the cleaning crew you can see them working right now. everything is getting done and i think it will be back to normal hopefully by next week maybe. >> or before that. meanwhile today mayor michael nutter blamed a lack of communication between philadelphia and neighboring towns for security information that leaked out before the plans were made final. >> el were, the weekend could any other have been any better for a family who drove if the pope's hometown of buenos aires to philadelphia in a 1980 volkswagen, in van. after their 13,000-mile journey, alfredo walker his wife noel and their four children received a special invitation.

pope francis invited the family to saint charles borromeo seminary on saturday. the walkers say the pontiff felt like an old friend talking with them and even embracing their children. the best part they say when pope francis first saw them, he asked if they were the family who drove 13,000 miles to meet him and then laughed and called them actually crazy. how about that alicia. >> he is the best. and you know what, this guy's got a lot of laughs and chuckles going around because we know pope francis kissed a lot of babies here in philadelphia with his affinity for the little ones but this cutie, little four month old named quinn now affectionately known as pope baby is the one that social media cannot get enough of. the infant dressed up like the pope, big hat and all got a holy chuckle from the pontiff. her father daniel madden tell us "action news" he was at the papal parade saturday on the ben franklin parkway with his wife dana when the pope spotted their little girl and she was hoisted up for a big

we look live here in west conshohocken. it's not too bad, just a little bit sluggish coming away from the blue route into the conshohocken curve. still have a police officer there on the shoulder because of that earlier fender-bender but we've seen much worse afternoons on the schuylkill and, hey, it's opened which is better than this weekend. have an issue on the northeast extension. if you're coming southbound away from lansdale there's a broken down vehicle taking out the right lane so expect slowing as you come from lansdale and head towards plymouth meeting this afternoon. in abington right by the abington memorial hospital watch out for a crash along 611 near woodland road. also in marple township close to veterans park at lawrence road at warren boulevard and still one on the main line along 30 lancaster avenue by wynnewood road. of course they're still busy cleaning up along the parkway. so the ben franklin parkway does remain shut down in both directions, again no end date given on that but because of it you can still expect some dee he tours on some of the septa buses. the regional rails are still running on a saturday schedule.

tomorrow night. clouds overhead but enough sunshine to pop up to 82 at this hour. 82 in wilmington, incident in the poconos, 78 in allentown, the lehigh valley, 77 in beach haven and along the coast in sea isle city in the upper 70's. here's satellite6 along with action radar. several features that we are tracking for you as this week wears on. this cold front stretched out across can today, back across the great lakes and the midwest. this will be slowly working its way eastward and as it does so, it's going to tap into some tropical moisture, areas of tropical moisture that we're tracking for you. the first area out across the gulf of mexico that will stream northward and interact with this cold front and also a tropical depression along the atlantic that will impact our weather as we get into the end of this work week here so here's the setup. going to be a soggy one this week. the slow moving cold front that works its way eastward this gulf low that moves in tuesday night into wednesday and this will work its way northward so we're tracking moisture from that and also the tropical depression along

the atlantic, this will more than likely impact our weather as we get into late friday and into saturday but it all depends on where this area of low pressure out along the atlantic sets up shop and where this cold front will eventually move across the region. so we're definitely going to track it for you. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight, warm and humid, isolated shower likely north and west of that 95 corridor. otherwise we're dropping down to 63 in the suburbs and 71 in philadelphia with that southeasterly wind. here's the moisture. future tracker six showing you 2 o'clock tomorrow some spotty activity breaking out. and as that moisture continues to ride northward and the front comes in from a westerly direction you could see the heaviest rain moves in along that 95 corridor, points to the north and west, especially by tuesday night. so, two rounds of rain that we're tracking this week. tuesday night into wednesday we could find anywhere from an inch to 2-inches of rain. it will be turning gusty, anywhere from 25 miles per hour in the city and as high as 40 miles per hour at the

coast. then friday into saturday another one to 3 inches of rain on the way and possible coastal flooding. again it all depends on where that area of low pressure interacts with this frontal boundary. the exclusive accuweather forecast showing you tomorrow is a humid day high up to 83. it's a wet day on wednesday, windy, too and at 74. much cooler on thursday. even wet and windy, a high up to 63. breezy with some rain around on friday. just 63 degrees, 66 as we get into saturday as we watch the coast. then the upper 60's, lower 70's as we get into sunday and into monday, guys, so definitely rounds of rain on the way. much needed but have those umbrellas red ha ready. >> all right will do. >> what's the deal is coming up next.
