keeping an eye on the cleanup area residents. most seemed impressed by the progress today but still trod have their neighborhood back, though some found the benefit in the road closures. >> it was nice walking in the streets without any traffic, you know, and just riding your bike, you didn't have to worry about traffic. >> reporter: and the parkway remains shut down basically from 21st here to eakins oval. mayor michael nutter at a press conference today didn't put an exact time on when the parkway would be reopened. he says once crews get done it will reopen. live along the parkway, chad pradelli channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you chad. leftover pallets of water were given out free to pilgrims. but they were left on the parkway. word gout out and some people helped themselves loading up their cars, even baby strollers. dwayne autrey told "action news" he's taking water to his church to help the homeless. >> they also received texts that they giving out water so this will help our cause.

>> wawa provided the water. a spokesperson told us some of the excess water went to the salvation army and other community organizations. let's go live to "action news" reporter david henry at city hall. david, mayor michael nutter met the media today. what did he have to say. >> reporter: not surprisingly jim he declared it a success. the city is now coming back to normal but still basking in the glow of a remarkable and historic weekend that for some on one hand this was a very uplifting treasured experience but for others on the other hand maybe frustrating and disappointing for some. >> it was not the same. we did less business than a normal weekend. >> reporter: all along the 13th street restaurant district there is disappointment. many reporting sales off by 50 percent or more. although he some did pick up new customers. >> all new customers, yeah, we definitely did not see a lot

of regulars. it did seem that most of the city kind of had cleared out. >> reporter: and it appears most who came to see the pope brought their own food. >> we ate what we had with us. we shared, a lot of people talked, a lot of people had brought food so it was really kind of like large family meal. the million plus crowds never materialized. many residents left the city and others never bothered coming in blaming the tight security restrictions. mayor michael nutter blamed the media. >> i think the reporting on any number of aspects of this was detrimental to the mind-set of many philadelphians and others. i think that in some instances you all scared the (bleep) out of people. >> reporter: but it was the mayor who set the tone sternly warning people about long walks restricted areas, tow zones, checkpoints and street closures. new jersey officials all but urged people to stay away. >> there are not enough parking spots in camden city, in camden county or in this region to accommodate the

year's super bowl. verizon said its networks be handled 12 times the normal traffic. the "action news" facebook page has the most talked about moments from the papal visit. please join the millions of people who watched the pope greet bobby hill and who saw the pope laugh as he met pope baby. you can experience these moments and many more on the "action news" facebook page. philadelphia police are investigating an accident that one of their vehicles was involved in this afternoon. the crash happened just before 1 o'clock on city avenue near bryn mawr avenue in wynnefield. both the officer and the other driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. not clear yet who was at fault. authorities have identified 53-year-old kevin brown as the victim killed in a home invasion in montgomery county last night. prosecutors say brown, his wife and two other family members were inside their home on philmont avenue in lower

moreland township when a group of men broke in. investigators believe it was a targeted attack because only brown was shot. law men have not released a motive. brown later died at the hospital. and philadelphia police are investigating an accident last night in wissinoming that saw a 13-year-old boy killed by a forklift. a forklift that was being driven by a young girl. "action news" reporter john rawlins explains. >> you could tell by the top one and these ones that this was just done today. >> reporter: john grogan distraught uncle of the dead boy saying where workers hastily repaired a hole where kids may have gained entry to this industrial z the family of ethan shoemaker grieving. he was one of several 12 to 14-year-olds who entered this building. insides they started driving forklifts, there was a collision a teen who was there but did not want to be identified described the crash. >> ethan stopped and the girl,

she swerved and the forklift, it got pointy things on it so it tipped over and he was trying to get out and his head, everything was smashed. >> reporter: ethan shoemaker was dead at the scene last night. the family believers the property owned by the newman paper company should have been better secured to resist curious teens. >> kids are going to be kids. it should have been more -- well more secured. >> reporter: better secured you been. >> better secured. it's a multi-million dollar company. >> reporter: newman paper issued a brief statement saying we are saddened by the loss of the young man's life and offer our condolences to the family. ethan was described by his under a jennifer as curious, fearless and loyal. >> he's warm hearted. he's always there for you even if -- like if you -- you could say you're not his friend but he'll still be there for you if you still need him. he's so -- he's tough as nails. >> reporter: there is an ongoing investigation by

northeast defendants ha detecti. it is not sure if anyone will be charged or whether it will be ruled an accident. john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> state police are investigating a one-car crash on the pennsylvania turnpike that claimed the life of a penn state student. 19-year-old vitalya cepo died when the car she was riding in crashed in charles town chester county. six other students in the vehicle were all taken to the hospital. they were returning to state college after collecting donations for thon. she was a sophomore from branford, connecticut. police in new castle delaware are asking for the public's help to identify this man. they say he was caught on surveillance camera making purchases with a stolen credit card number. the 62-year-old victim called police when she noticed fraudulent charges made at retail stores and gas stations in and around newark and new castle. anybody with information is being urged to contact new castle county police.

in rome at about 4 a.m. our time before pope francis landed he spoke candidly about his american tour. the pontiff said that he was surprised by the warmth of the american people but his comments were not without controversy. he said that women could never be priests. the pontiff also said conchi yen shuts objection is a human right. that was an answer to the question about the kentucky clerk kim davis who refused to grant marriage licenses to gay couples can. for the first time pope francis said church officials who covered up priest sexual abuse are guilty of wrongdoing. once on the ground if rome pope francis tweeted his appreciation. the tweet from at pontiff x read with my heart felt thanks may the love of christ always guide the american people. #god bless america. no matter how you look at it this past weekend was a triumphant one for philadelphia archbishop charles chaput. he met the media today and "action news" reporter vernon odom was there.

>> first of all it wasn't a publicity stunt. >> reporter: philadelphia's archbishop bristled today as some reporters asked whether the pope's apology yesterday at saint charles seminary to five local victims of sexual abuse by priests was simply "window dressing." as some activists the claim the pope has still not signed onto a zero tolerance policy. >> we deeply regret the past. we committee ourselves to a better future. people are angry, they want to say we're not doing anything except symbolic things and i understand their anger. i don't know how to get through that except that we keep trying and we will keep trying but the pope is very sincere and i hope people understand that. >> reporter: one reporter noted the presence this past weekend of cardinal justin cardn rigali. he was never accused of covering up the pedophile scandal. >> the church is happy to

season. reports also say the eagles will sign caleb sturgis to take his place. all clip chip would say earlier in the day before the reports came out was that parkey suffered a leg injury before the jets game yesterday. he still played in the game. parkey's kickoff yesterday fell short of the end zone eagles finally have their first victory of the season they beat the jets 24-17 but the -- i'm having a hard time today, hm, but the performance was far from perfect. the birds failed to score a single point in the second half. sam bradford continues to be a bit of a concern. he finished 14 of 28 for only 118 yards. he was off the park on a lot of throws threw three games this season bradford has thrown just three touchdown passes. near the bottom of the nfl in passer rating. this afternoon chip kelly tells us he's still a believer. >> he's doing a good job. there are some throws sam wants back.

he will be no one's headache until next year. the nationals suspended their closer for his fight with teammate bryce harper. the dustup occurred in yesterday's game against the phillies. the former philly had words for harper for not hustling then a fuse blew. nats have suspended papelbon four games. papelbon has dropped that appeal. the two suspensions take us to the end of the season. after the game last night papelbon talked to the media. >> i can't allow that to happen in the middle of the game. you can handle that after the game, allow the manager to handle that so, you know, in that light of it i'm correct me if i'm wrong. >> he apologized so whatever. i really don't care. >> how about this. the sixers opened training camp tomorrow. yes, it's that time of year. today media day. otherwise known as say cheese day. the season opener is a month from today october 28th in boston. sixers may not be ready to

like we're going to get a lot of it. tonight no rain out there. we had a few sprinkles near downingtown earlier this evening. there's lots of clouds though but early at a the action cam taking a look at washington square and seeing a lot of peaks of sunshine and we actually managed to make it up to 83 degrees today. it was warm and muggy. that's 10 degrees above normal. but the weather highlights will show you that, yes, we are definitely in need of rain and the first round will be moving in tuesday night into wednesday morning. but the past 48 days we've only had two days with more than a tenth of an inch of rain. back on august 20th we got kind of a drop in the bucket, .13. remember september 10th, though, close to 5-inches of rain in philadelphia. doesn't look like we'll get that much tuesday night into wednesday morning butter future tracker showing in general about one to 2 inches of rain, closer to 3-inches across the poconos and actually central pennsylvania could get more than 4-inches of rain. right now, though, it feels like summer. 80 degrees in philadelphia,

it's definitely on the muggy side with dewpoints in the 60's. millville 79, allentown 78. wilmington 79 and trenton currently 76 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar showing we are dealing with some clouds. there are about three players on the weather map that will have a big impact on our weather. first of all there's a cold front moving in from the midwest. also, there's an area of low pressure over the gulf of mexico that's providing some flooding rains over florida and there's also a tropical depression, so what this means, we have a soggy setup this week. that low pressure causing the heavy rains over florida will be pulled up by that slow moving cold front tuesday night into wednesday morning and then that tropical depression which will likely become tropical storm joaquin could impact our weather friday into saturday. so, let's take it one storm at a time. future tracker showing 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon lots of clouds with a few spotty showers. as we head into the nighttime hours, this is when the atmosphere really gets saturated so by 10 o'clock, some heavy rain across the

northwest suburbs and that will be moving to the east overnight and 6:30 tomorrow morning we do have the potential for some pockets of heavy rain for your morning commute. then this is what we could be dealing with over the week. right now it's tropical depression number 11 likely to become tropical storm joaquin. it's pretty weak right now. maximum sustained winds 35 miles per hour barely drifting west at 6 miles per hour but the latest from the national hurricane center brings it close to our coast over the weekend as a tropical storm. five days ahead of time the computer models can be way off, so this is just a heads up. i'll track it as we head through the week but we do have the poe he tench for some heavy rain, some high winds and some coastal flooding and beach erosion if that storm heads to our coast on saturday. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, it's a pretty unsettled one. it will be humid tomorrow. if you thought today was muggy, wait until tomorrow. dewpoints likely around 70 degrees with some afternoon showers. the high 83 degrees.

so, another very warm day. that heavy rain tuesday night into wednesday. wednesday rainy and windy. we're looking the potential for wind gusts at the coast 40 miles per hour. on wednesday night the steady rain should be over but there could be some lingering showers. on thursday, behind that round of rain, it gets chilly. the high only 63 degrees. windy and cloudy with a couple showers. on friday it's still cool and breezy, 63 degrees, some rain developing and on saturday, again watching the potential for a coastal storm, a tropical storm depending on the track. we could get some real heavy rain especially along the coast, 66 degrees. whatever lapse on saturday, sunday should be better. partly sunny, 68 degrees and hundred sun mixing with clouds with a high of 70 degrees. so, we need the rain. be careful what you wish for. could be a very wet week. >> all right, thank you cecily. law enforcement officers in delaware are receiving some
