a frontal boundary off to the north and it's guiding that rain more or less in our direction. clouds are getting thicker, some of the spotty precipitation is marching through and later tonight as the front gets closer to us and we'll start to see a band of heavy rain come through. satellite shows you the cloud cover along with the speckled showers that pop up and get closer to us. it's also warm and muggy out there, up to 81 in philadelphia and 79 in allentown un80 in wilmington, this is out of frontal boundary, now the flow is off the ocean rather than the northeast, the dew point is up to 70 so muggy out there, feeling a bit like summertime in the afternoon, high of 82 degrees, well above average. the overnight low is still mild, 72 degrees and overnight we are looking at the rain coming

through, a quick look shows you that between now and all the way up to 5:00 we see bands of the heavier rain starting to form and some sets up north and west of philadelphia later today and late tonight and in the overnight hours, we start to get hammered with the rain, when we come back we'll talk about the progress of this round of rain and how much to expect and sara we have a tropical storm down near the bahamas that is looking like it will cut up the coast, and will that be a factor for us later in the week? coming up. crews are still busy restoring the ben franklin parkway to its original state following the papal visit, the stage is taking days to break down and remove. john rawlins is there to give us an update on the progress today. >> reporter: as far as drivers are concerned, there are still detours, especially outbound or westbound from city hall but

a georgia high school is mourning the death of two students involving a state police car, the two girls that died were passengers in the vehicle that collided with a patrol car over the weekend, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. preliminary findings show that the teen's car turned into the panel of police car, funerals for both girls are planned in

we are following the investigation into attacks on two female temple university students, police say that both women were robbed and assaulted on campus within a two hour period, and the first student was robbed and shots were fired on thompson street at 10:00 last night and then at midnight a 20-year-old student was raped on the 1400 block of carlyle street. the sexual assault victim had left the library when she heard footsteps, a man with a gun pushed her against the wall and sexually assaulted her. and these believe that two separate suspects are behind the attacks. two car companies could be facing recalls because they used airbags used by takata, it could affect tesla, volvo and

muggy afternoons today feeling more like summer still. >> yes, and here we are well into fall. stormtracker 6 live double scan shows you we are beginning in this warm and humid air mass to squeeze out a little precipitation and if i go in tighter, it's not real impressive but scooting up through burlington county new jersey and camden county and a bunch over by salem county crossing the lower delaware river into wilmington, you can see a couple of showers beginning to well up, that is the continued case through the afternoon and evening and then heavier rain making an appearance. as we look outside, a nice picture from chopper 6 hd from the channel 6, 6 abc zoo balloon, the flying is nice because the wind is not strong.

81 degrees in philadelphia, the temperature climbed through the morning and dew point is at 70 and it feels extremely humid and light at 6 miles per hour, 80 in trenton and 79 in allentown and 81 in millville and 77 in cape may, new jersey, future tracker 6 picking up the showers i showed you and by 2:00, 3:00, they could well up in more pronounced showers but will be spotty and in the evening most of the rain is north and west of philadelphia, and farther into the evening hours, some additional rain is from the south and this is a heavy hitting rainfall totalling an inch or more and may even be thunder mixed in. i would keep your eye on the forecast before heading down to the game. lehigh valley, mostly cloudy and a high of 80 and down the shore

mostly cloudy skies and 76 and we'll see the showers building in and you have some nearby inland from you. 82 is the high in philadelphia and the way temperatures are marching we could wind up a degree or two above that and mostly cloudy skies and humid and showers are possible through the afternoon into the evening and later tonight it gets rainier, with the heavier rain breaking out and maybe a rumble of thunder, look at the overnight low down to 70, that is not too far below an average high for this time of year, tomorrow in the overnight hours, the rain comes pounding down and in the morning it looks like most of the heavy stuff is over the northern and western suburbs and could be lingering poor drainage flooding and then the end of the rush hour and things wind down a bit. and then cloudy and damp with a sprinkle or shower and it looks like there is a lot less rain involved. tropical storm joaquin formed

and some of that could come in our direction, this latest track came out an hour ago and far different than this morning's broadcast, then it looked like the remnants would head straight inland and give us rain and now the track is slowing down and now this is where it will be at 8:00 sunday morning and it looks to stay off the coast, some of the spaghetti plot models are bringing it inland and most of the models have it off the coast, and we hope that the way it winds up and it looks like saturday and maybe sunday are the days affected. 82 and hupd today with showers, and steady rain tonight and tomorrow morning, tomorrow cloudy and damp and 76 and cool on thursday and friday ahead of the approach of that storm, as we get into saturday, that is when we watch the coast, if the storm is close you have and we

started when school officials found a gun in what appeared to be a backpack, not surprisingly the school went on lockdown and an arrest was made at this time and moments ago we found out that it's a 15-year-old and it was actually a toy gun found in the backpack, we mention no shots were fired from law enforcement, once again it was a toy gun and no injuries were reported. more information from this story coming up on "action news" at 4:00, but the information we got moments ago was that a 15-year-old was somehow involved in this thing and from what we are told it was a toy gun, more coming up on "action news" at 4:00. walter perez, channel 6 "action news news.". >> walter, thank you. police are investigate ago tacks on two temple university students overnight. katherine scott is live now with
