states overnight and we're also watching joaquin. the storm is strengthening swirling in the atlantic. a hurricane watch is in effect right now for parts of the bahamas. still far away but it is one to keep an eye on. >> that entirely different storm system already causing problems on the eastern seaboard drefshing rain, falling right now here in new york city. you can actually see where all this rain is coming from on that radar. again, unrelated to joaquin, rain stretching from the mid-atlantic to new england. >> okay, so here's what these downpours are leaving behind. some dramatic pictures. this home surrounded by water in virginia and also in virginia on the campus of james madison university, this scene, rain submerging parts of the campus. >> busy few days ahead for our team of meteorologists. >> accuweather's justin povick is tracking it all for us. justin, good morning. >> reena and kendis, thanks. good morning. we continue to track a strengthening tropical system. this again joaquin traveling its

way off to the west, expected to turn a quite strong over the course of the next couple of days and this is very important for two reasons, first off we already have heavy rain falling throughout the north ice. this is going to set the stage for future flooding. widespread amounts of 3 to 6 inches possibly 10 inches throughout the week. reena and kendis, back to you. >> justin, thank you. also breaking overnight the state of georgia has executed the only female inmate who had been on death row. kelly gissendaner died by lethal injection at 21 minutes past midnight after the supreme court denied a third appeal. gissendaner who graduated from a theology program in prison sang "amazing grace" before the drugs took hold. gissendaner got the death penalty for helping to arrange the murder of her husband. the killer's life was spared in a plea deal. >> well, the pope is wading into another issue.

lawyers for kim davis says that she met with pope francis last week. now, the vatican releasing a statement saying they will not confirm nor deny the meeting which reportedly took place at the vatican embassy in washington. it lasted about 15 minutes. lawyers say pope francis told davis to stay strong and gave her a rosary. davis spent five days in jail for defying a federal court order to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. the head of planned parenthood has defended her organization in a contentious hearing on capitol hill. cecile richards said less than 1% of clinics donate fetal tissue for medical research. she said that videos released by anti-abortion groups were doctored to appear that tissue was sold. >> the outrageous accusations leveled against planned parenthood based on heavily doctored videos are offensive and categorically untrue. >> some republicans want to pull federal funding for planned

parenthood. some even criticizing richards $500,000 salary which some democrats called sexist. >> well, russian president vladimir putin is getting support for his move in syria from an unlikely source. donald trump. he says he has no problem with russia's recent military buildup. >> there is a war of words between trump and the clintons. it's heating up. abc's stephanie ramos is joins us from washington with more on this. stephanie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, kendis and reena. former president bill clinton is lashing out at donald trump after months of fiery verbal tacks towards hillary. clinton now defending his wife. clinton versus trump. this time it's bill taking a swing at the gop presidential contender. >> you shouldn't be able to insult your way to the white house. >> reporter: in an interview with cnn, the former president firing back at the donald after months of attacking hillary calling them fat tree -- >> she's the worst.

>> reporter: he defended his wife's tenure pointing to the iran sanctions saying her deal was controversial but well done. he added trump's criticisms would be broken down in a general election and the facts would easily come to light. >> the day after you take the oath of office. >> it's yours. >> you can't level an insult or have -- you're not in an episode of "survivor." you're actually supposed to show up and run the show. >> reporter: meanwhile, trump made peace with fox news. >> i'm back. >> after saying he would boycott the network. he reflected on the conflict in syria praising vladimir putin in his support of president bashar al assad. it took top billing at the u.n. general assembly. >> putin is taking over what we started and going into syria and he frankly warrants to fight isis and i think that's a wonderful thing. >> trump also says russia's president is getting an "a" in terms of leadership. as for former president bill clinton he'll hit the campaign

trail in support of his wife to let as many people know she's the right person for the white house. back over to you, kendis and reena. >> love his declaration on "the o'reilly report," i'm back. thanks, stephanie, reporting from washington. the state department will release about 6,000 pages of new clinton e-mails this afternoon that will bring the total amount released to just under 40%. the u.s. military is carrying out three more air strikes on taliban positions around the afghanistan city of konduz. so far forces have not been able to retake the city from the islamic fighters. fierce fighting raged through the night before the taliban retreated under fire. doctors without borders says the city's health care facilities have been overwhelmed by the injured. president obama is warning that the fight against isis will not be won with weapons alone. speaking at a u.n. summit he said that ideas, jobs and good governance are the key to

defeating isis. this is as a new report finds 250 americans have joined isis this year. that's double the number from last year. okay, and this about the president. he has held a second private meeting with cuban leader raul castro. they met yesterday here in new york city. it was the first time a u.s. president has spoken with his cuban counterpart. on american soil in more than 60 years. they spoke about ways the two can work together and mr. obama raised the issue of human rights in cuba. before that meeting president obama hit the hotel gym at the same time as interim manager of the boston red sox, a guy on the right, tory lolello. he asked when he was leaving because it was tough for he and the team to get around of the president apologized for the inconvenience and kind of stalked the president in that. he said he meant to go to the gym early to try to find the president then he scored.

it was as if halloween washed away in western virginia as torrential rains flooded the area sending plenty of pumpkins downstream. businesses and schools closed early. well, this morning there could be flooded roads in the mid-atlantic and northeastern states and rain-slicked highways from virginia down to the gulf coast. roads in the central midwest may also be wet.

if you're flying airport delays likeliest in boston. well, a fugitive from oregon on the run for nearly a quarter century has been captured. >> talking about paul jackson, arrested in mexico where he was live be under an assumed name. he accused of kidnapping and torturing two women in 1990. he was taken into custody after his case was featured on a show women are going to get their day in court. another one down, a really bad low life down. >> well, jackson fled after being bailed out of jail and had been missing ever since. he was booked into a jail in los angeles yesterday and will be sent to stand trial in oregon. well, a major drug bust for the u.s. coast guard in the caribbean. more than $40 million worth of cocaine and marijuana. the shipment was first spotted by a coast guard plane off the dominican republic. the coast guard says this is a record year for drug busts by the service seizing more than $4

reports that they were successful. >> reporter: there were more than 200 of them, skydiverers from nearly 30 countries all around the world but there was only one goal, to set a new world record. >> we're in the buildup phase right now and we've been practicing for the last two days. >> reporter: the task seemed almost impossible. 202 sky divers loaded up onto nine different planes. once hit altitude with the planes in perfect formation the skydivers jump like putting together a jigsaw puzzle they all get into formation then break and make a second formation, august of this in just 60 seconds. the old record was 121 people here they're trying for more than 200. >> it's a zero effect environment because everybody has to be right. >> there have been four or five attempts earlier, you know, a couple of years ago, but they
