as we look at the winds continue to be a factor all day today. as we look at storm tracker 6 live double scan, you can see the heavy rain ban from overnight has pushed into the north an western areas above philadelphia past allentown and now we're dealing with lighter spotty stuff coming in off the ocean during the early morning hours. satellite is showing you that coming into view. controversial it's not as bad as yesterday. coastal flood warning is in effect today and tomorrow through 6:00 p.m. ocean high tide between noon and 2:00 p.m. up and down our local coastline also and the waves will be running 6 to ten feet. we're looking another round of moderate to major tidal flooding in the back bays and along the oceanfront and up in the tidal delaware river as we go through the high tide today and another one after midnight tonight. the wind advisory is ilong the coast, but gusts today could go

as highs 50 miles per hour. right now we've got 41 at the airport in atlantic city and 33 in wildwood. even inland it's on the blustery side. temperatures, 51 degrees in philadelphia. in the 40s in allentown and trenton and reading. 60 in sea isle city. as we roll through the day today, it's going to remain cool similar to yesterday. 54 degrees by noon, the high at 3:00 p.m., 57 degrees, occasionally there could be a pop-up sprinkle or shower. a lot of day will be cloudy and damp, windy and mainly dry. alicia we have improved forecast coming up for you as we look ahead in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast and next week's workweek, i'll have the details on that and the latest on hurricane joaquin coming up. >> we'll take all the improvements you can give us, david. a tree fell on top of a row home in the city's lawncrest section on crystal street at 4:00 a.m. the ground was so saturated it

can't support the tree roots. fortunately nobody was hurt and thankfully not much damage to the home, either. rain and wind whipped waves continue to pound the shore. shore bracing for more flooding with winds up to 60 miles per hour. townsend inlet bridge is closed because of high waves. the beach was replenished for the first time since super-storm sandy. foicialtion -- officials say all the work has paid off. >> the beach is designed to withstand this, and it is exactly what it's doing. avalon officials placed a crew of firefighters on standby in case residents needed to be evacuated. the action cam was along

say sexually assaulted and robbed a temple university student. now, police need your help to find him. septa surveillance video shows the suspect on the broad street train line near the off campus crime scene. police say he used a gun to terrorized student. >> forced the victim behind a construction pod or dumpster in the 1400 block of carlisle street where he robbed her and then sexualitily assaulted her her -- sexually assaulted her. >> police thing the man carried out other robberies at gunpoint, as well, before attacking the temple student. if you have any information call 911. >> we're learning more details about the mass shooting at a community in oregon. umpqua community college confirmed chris mercy -- mercer

was a student at the school. he was wearing steel plated armor and had 6 guns. he had gave paper and computer thumb drive to someone on campus before the shooting, they were loaded with hate-filled writings. >> it's been a devastating day, devastating for me and my family, shocked is all i can say. >> shock and a lot of sadness there asinine people were killed in the rampage. they ranged from 18 to 67. the victims included several freshmen and a teacher. >> an investigation is underway after a u.s. airstrike in northern afghanistan that may have killed several people at a million facility. doctors without borders say three staff members were killed when their hospital was struck in kurdus.

it happened while u.s. was engaged in a fight with the taliban. 30 others are missing. 30 years ago, was the trial of oj simpson that captivateed everyone. the former football star was acquitted in the murder of his ex-wife nicole brown and ron goldman. he was ordered to pay $33 million to the goldman and brown families. simpson is currently in jail for an armed robbery conviction in las vegas. >> a highway exit on interstate 84 in ballooning grove pennsylvania has been named for slain state police corporal brian dixon. governor tom wolf dedicated the exit on friday.

the bahamas offers a brief glimpse of the power and destruction of hurricane joaquin. the slow-moving storm and high winds and torrents of rain battered parts of the about bah. communication has been cut off to lightly populated islands there. so far no reports of deaths or injuries. the coast guard will resume searching for a cargo ship caught in hurricane joaquin and not heard from in at least a day. that ship was heading to puerto rico from jacksonville florida when it went missing yesterday. the crew reported power problems and said the ship was beginning to list. there are 33 crew members on board the ship including 28 americans.

windy and cool and damp, a temperature of 351 in philadelphia. the 40s in the lehigh valley. 60 in sea isle city. rolling through the day, it's going to stay on the cool, the windy and the cloudy and danch danch -- damp side. 3:00 p.m., the high is 57. one thing i'll say about the rain, it is easing up. we won't have those heavy downpours, in fact while we'll have spotty activity, a lot of region will be cloudy and dank. when i come back we'll have the latest seven day forecast and the hurricane joaquin track. alicia, things get better in the seven day. >> that's good news. parts of north wildwood began flooding before the high tide moved in. trish hartman was in north wildwood last night and has the details. >> reporter: angry winds and

stinging rain pounded the beaches in avalon. officials say gusts up to 60 miles per hour could bring down power lines overnight. the townsend inlet bridge connecting avalon and sea isle city is closed because of high water. >> do not drive on flooded streets or flooded intrerks -- intersection you put yourself and first responders at risk. >> reporter: these beaches were rereplenished since super-storm sandy. >> our beach held up and designed to withstand it. >> reporter: we saw businesses in avalon sured up with sandbags and residents are ready, too. >> we parked at the municipal parking lot a couple of lots down. >> reporter: in north wildwood boats were pulled out of the water at grassy sound marina. folks grabbed groceries and

snacks. >> it's picking up quite a bit. >> we have a hobby cat on the beach in stone harbor and we had to get it off the beach. >> we grew up with this kind of stuff. >> reporter: coastal flood warnings are in effect. in avalon the fire department has an extra crew on standby in case anybody needs help. trish hartman channel 6 "action news." >> residences in ocean city, cape may county, are keeping an eye on things, as well. the early high tide swamped the shore, water over bulkheads, many streets i am passable with knee-high water. this couple had to vample to find a -- scramble to find a new venue for their wedding.

meanwhile, governor chris christie stirred up controversy when he talked about the potential for flooding along the jersey shore. he singled out the residences of margate which refused to put up a protective dunes. >> towns like margate, you are amongst the most selfish people in the state of new jersey. if this hurricane had come to shore, the damage that would have been done to lives and property in margate, i hope it's worth the vanity act you're engaging in. >> the state wants to take the beachfront by eminent domain. the mayor said they are protected by a sea wall. and it is a shame that the governor made that statement

about them. go to 6abc.com for the latest reports from the shore along with videos and photos of flooding. new this morning, a deadly highrise in the apartment building in the chestnut hill section of philadelphia cost a man his life. the action cam was on the scene at the chestnut hill to your on the 7600 block of stenton avenue. firefighters rushed to the building after getting a call that a fire broke out in the unit of the top floor of the 18 story structure. crews pulled an unconscious man from the apartment, the victim in his 50s was pronounced at the hospital. firefighters evacuated the buildings during the blaze. the residents have been allowed to return. so far there's no word on a cause. new this morning, a man has been taken to a delaware hospital after getting hit by a car while walking on a bridge. the action cam was on the scene on the 1400 block of north washington street in wilmington. police say the man in his mid 30s was walking across the bridge in the rain when he was

struck. medics performed cpr at the scene and transported the man to christiana hospital. so far no word on his condition. the driver of the car stopped immediately and did remain at the scene. philadelphia police have released new surveillance video that they help will lead them to the suspect in the temple sex assault case. the pictures were released moments before and after the attack near the campus monday. vernon odem has the details. >> reporter: cu tell police who this -- cut police who this man is and where they can kind him? it is suspected he is the person who sexually assaulted and robbed a temple university student she had just come from the library with a friend. they parted ways when she was set upon by a gun-wielding man. >> forced the victim behind a construction pod or dumpster in

the 1400 block of carlisle street where he robbed her and sexually assaulted her. >> it happened close to write live. that's what made me the most nervous about it. >> reporter: this is septa surveillance video from the broad and erie station after the assault. this second video is prior to attack a few blocks away. police hope the clarity will lead to key tip calls. else a suspect in several earlier gunpoint robberies in the section of town. >> this is our suspect in our particular incident, robbery, rape, 1400 carlisle street, as well as at least one of the other incidents. >> reporter: the attack on the student has rattled the temple university student. students hope the video will help police make the collar. >> i live on park avenue, it's

>> storms from unusually powerful waves attracted scores of surfers to the beach in south carolina. you one surfer told a reporter, the waves are the best he had seen all year. the surfers are the only people who found a good side to the storm. that's typically the case. the high winds caused flooding in the area and officials are concerned about beach erosion. they got pummeled in south carolina. >> reporter: that is the case as the storms move in from the south. the hurricane is on the way to the north, it will not spare us today down the shore as we are looking at coastal flooding concerns. looking at storm tracker 6 live double scan, one bit of good news as we go in closer, the heavy rain from yesterday and overnight is now pushing to the north of the region and things are starting to diminish and dry

out in places like allentown and reading and lancaster and philadelphia. only seeing just spotty precipitation at this point. you can see additional stuff coming in over atlantic city and surf city and through the morning especially over the next several hours, i think we'll be in and out of the light nuisance showers. generally speaking the rain is drying down a bit, but we're cloudy, cool and feeling a bit damp. as we look outside, we are down the shore with the heavy surf coming into cape play. that will be the issue today and most of tomorrow. future tracker 6 picking up the rain story. between now and noon we'll diminish the current rain. if we see light sprinkle as spotty showers they will be closer to the coach as they spin in off the coastline. 6:00 more of the same. cloudy and damp and cooler inland. most of the active showers likely down the shore. we go into 11:00, 11:30 we start

to dry out. the winds are a big issue. gusting up to mid 40s and gusts up to 50 miles per hour closer to the coast. 6:00 p.m. it's blustery and the wind coming in off the ocean it will continue to exacerbate the flooding issues after high tide at lunchtime and midnight. i'm posting sprinkles and showers around the region. today will be mainly dry with cloudy conditions and occasional shower popping through. the high temperatures, staying chilly north to south. mid 50s, allentown and trenton. 57 in philadelphia. the closer you get to the shore, low 60s. down the shore, the flooding is an issue. high tide is 12:24, i think between noon and 2:00 is where

the center of the flooding willl be this afternoon. high tide in the early afternoon hours is a concern, we're hoping it will be less intense than the last couple of high tides than what we'll see today. winds will gust 40 to 50 at the shore, waves 6 to ten feet, damaging beach erosion a possibility. if you're out of town inlandslide if philadelphia. bring along a coast and brace for breezy and windy conditions, 55 at 5:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m., 53 degrees and clouds and scattered sprinkle around. sunday, a lot of clouds and not a lot of rain tomorrow. hurricane joaquin is making its move away from the bahamas. the eye of the hurricane is
