>> good morning, it is 7:00 a.m. this saturday, october 3. eva is off, i'm alicia vitarelli. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news" this morning. a teresa -- tree succumbs to the heavy rains overnight. new details in the mass shooting at a west coast community college. we'll have the latest information in a live report from oregon. david murphy has a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. umbrella up, rain jacket on.

seeing improvement. >> reporter: we'll not have the volume of rain we had yesterday, it's cool and windy at times. i have a wind break on the terrace, every now and then the winds tugs at the umbrella. the rain is pushing toward new york state. all we're left with ask a lights nuisance shower that's what i have on the terrace. cloud cover will be an issue all day today, the volume of rain coming off the ocean a lot less, occasionally we'll see sprinkles and showers around. still have the coastal flood warning today through sunday. moderate to major flooding possible, the high waves 6 to ten feet. the next high tide noon to 2:00. the neck one after that, is after midnight. a wind advisory in effect along the coast with gusts 40 to 350 miles per hour adding to the fun, right? yeah, right. wind gusts 28 miles per hour in

philadelphia. reading not as windy, but blustery. down the shore the current guss are coming in between 35 and 40 miles per hour. 351 degrees is the current temperature in philadelphia. bundle up as you head outside. only in the 40s in the northern suburbs. as we roll through the day, 54 degrees by noon. 3:00 p.m., 57 degrees and that is your high today. bundle up if you're heading out. when i step inside, things get better tomorrow and even better as we roll into the workweek. alicia. >> in the meantime, a tree fell on top of a row home in lawncrest section overnight on crystal street around 4:00 a.m. the ground is so saturated it can't support the tree roots. nobody was hurt and not much damage to the home, either. rain and wind whipped waves continue to pound the jersey shore. the storm has caused flooding up and down the jersey coast. shore towns bracing for more

flooding triggered by wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. the townsend inlet bridge is closed because of the high waves. the beaches were replenished over the summer for the purpose of the first time since super-storm sandy. >> our beaches held up and designed to withstand it and that's what it is doing. >> avalon officials placed an extra crew of firefighters on standby in case residents needed to be evacuated. heavy winds battering the shore there, heavy winds and waves reaching up to ten feet high. governor chris christie is telling residents the state is prepared to deal with the coastal flooding. he was in sea isle yesterday. the state of emergency declared by governor christie remains in

place, we showed you the flooding and beach erosion caused by the heavy rain. we are not getting the amount of rain that we thought we were going to get, but we'll have moderate to major flooding in cape may, atlantic, cumberland an salem. so we need to be prepared for that. >> governor christie said shelters are in place if evacuations orders are issued. download the storm tracker 6 live app it's free through the google play or apple app stores. to other news, philadelphia police have released video of the man they say sexually assaulted and robbed a temple university student. now police need your help camping him. septa surveillance video shows the suspect on the broad street train line near the off campus crime scene, police say he used a gun to terrorize a female student.

>> forced the victim behind a construction pod or dumpster in the 1400 block of carlisle street where he robbed her and sexually assaulted her. >> police think the man carried out other gunpoint robberies in the same area before attacking the temple university student. if you have any information call 911. new this morning, a killer remains on the loose after gunning down a man on a chester street. the action cam was on the scene on the 1400 block of ruth l.bennett place. when officers arrived after midnight they found a man lying in the street. he had been shot repeatedly and pronounced at the scene. police are looking for motives and suspects. we are look -- we are learning some disturbing details about the alleged gunman in thursday's shooting rampage on the oregon college campus as the tight in knit community tries to

roseburg, oregon. amid the chaos, there were more stories of heroism. >> he ran back into the buildings, i don't know what happened to him. >> reporter: 30-year-old army vet pulled the fire alarm and survived 7 gunshots wound. >> he said it is my son's birthday today. >> reporter: the gunman chris harper mercer was enrolled in the class he targeted. he asked the victims about their religious beliefs before firing. the sheriff's office is investigating whether the attack was motivated by religion. he was found with 6 guns and owned seven more purchased legally. >> whatever drove him to do it, i don't care i care about the families he affected. >> reporter: and you can see in the memorial behind me there's a sign that says pray for roseburg. so many people are responding to

that. the hero you just saw in the piece, his go fund me page has receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations just in the last 48 hours that will help his recovery effort. reporting live in roseburg, bandy hicks, channel 6 "action news." alicia. paying it forward in the face of heartache. thank you so much. republican presidential candidate jeb bush is taking heat for comments he made discussing the mass shooting. he said in answer to the question about the attack, that quote stuff happens. president obama reacted to the comment should say if the american people should decide if american shootings every couple of months is stuff. jeb bush said he was not talking about the shooting, but the crisis in general.

the shooting is not about guns but about mental illness. you can't solve those problems with no gun laws no matter how stringent the law would be. doctors without borders say three staff members were killed when their hospital was struck in kunduz while u.s. forces engaged in in a battle with the taliban. 30 others are missing following that airstrike. the temple owls are on a roll as they keep their undefeated status for another week. plus, concerns before a cargo ship that was lost at sea during hurricane joaquin. >> reporter: we're off to a cool, windy, somewhat damp start. a lot less rain around than yesterday.

the bahamas offers a brief glimpse of the power of hurricane joaquin. torrents of rain battered parts of bahamas, leveling houses and uprooting trees and cutting off communications to several less populated islands. no reports of deaths or injuries. the coast guard will search for the cargo ship caught in hurricane joaquin and not heard from for a day. the ship was heading to port -- puerto rico from jacksonville, florida. there are 33 crew members on board the ship including 28 americans. >> reporter: that's scarey.

hurricane joaquin is in the bahamas but pulling away from the about a bahamas which is gos for them. the rain is starting to miss out on us, as well. as we look at that two mentional view, you can see there's light nuisance sprinkles and showers popping through philadelphia. the heavy rain has pushed to the north. going in tight we have speckled spotty precipitation, a little more coming off the ocean, a lot less rain around than yesterday. i think there will be good portions of the day where we are cloudy windy and cool. maybe feeling a little damp, but not as much active rain around. as we look outside, we have sky6 live hd at the shore, once again, the cameras wiggling and bouncing because we have strong gusty winds across the region at the shore. look at the heavy, rough surf. beach erosion an issue today as

well as moderate to major coastal flooding. in the 40 40s in trenton be -- and lancaster. milder down the coast, but nobody is feeling comfortable. the heavy rain is pushing off to the north and west of us. on future tracker 6 by noon, most of the area is beginning to dry out. if we had lingering shower activity today it's going to be mainly down by the shore. you can see this in and out of the picture up to 6:00 p.m. still maintaining basically dry conditions, but where you see the clouds we have to allow the sprinkles and showers. obviously this is not the same rain profile with he had before. in allentown, spotty windy rain possible. the down the shore spotty showers on and off throughout the day. the strong winds and coastal flooding continuing at times of high tide and the next high tide is early this afternoon after

lunchtime in atlantic city and generally between noon and 2:00 p.m. up and down the coastline. another high tide after midnight tonight and another one sunday afternoon. a coastline flood warning is in effect until 6:00 p.m. sunday. we have concerns about the next two high tides, even that tomorrow could produce decent amount of coastal flooding. the high in philadelphia, cloudy, windy, 57 degrees, the occasional rain not a washout today. winds northeast at 20 to 2030 miles per hour inland higher than that along the coastline. 56 by 2:00 p.m. the high 57 by 3:00 p.m. the numbers not changing too much today. cloudy and windy and damp. phils will play at 2:00 p.m. 56 degrees at the first pitch. that's the 4:00 p.m., this 54 is the 9th inning of the second game which could be around 10:30. it will be hovering in the mid 50s, windy and damp during the game. i would bring along a rain

again, everyone, david murphy here showing you storm tracker 6 live double scan. a much better picture than yesterday and even thursday. we have heavy rain to the north and west of us, continuing to move away, the only thing popping in is light, nuisance shower. most of the day will be dry. we're tracking a buoy on the inland side of cape may gusting up to 31 miles per hour. sustained winds of 20. we'll see the strong winds coming off the ocean giving problems along the shore. we have coastal flooding today and tomorrow. there are three more high tides that have us concerned. the first one around noon and ending around 2:00 p.m.

depending on where you are up and down the local beaches. flooding has been bad enough with the waves 6 to ten feet. major flooding that the flooding issues could begin hours before the high tide in the local community and continue for several hours afterwards. we have bad problems with property damage and i felt street flooding yesterday we expect -- and a lot of street flooding yesterday and we expect it today at high tide and along the delaware bay and the delaware river, alicia. >> temple's football team is 4-0. the best record in almost 40 years. jamie apody has more on the owls win and demarco murray testing his hamstring before the eagles showdown with washington. >> reporter: the pesky hamstring, desean jackson ruled

jersey shore, the action cam in abdomin -- absecon, atlantic county where there was flooding on the white horse pike. in north wildwood, a shopping cart floating down the road at 26th and delaware avenue. a home on grassy sound check this out just up spruce avenue in north wildwood falling victim to the floodwaters. cesily tynan showing us this picture on her facebook page last night at 5:00 p.m. this how it looked 7 hours later at high tide. as you can see it fell into the water there, that home likely a

2:00 p.m. up and down the coast and another one after midnight. the flooding will build back in before the high tides hit. current windy gusts are in the 30s across the beach areas and someplaces inland. 45 miles per hour gusts at beach haven. temperatures are cool, 51 degrees in philadelphia. 40s in trenton, allentown and reading, 60 in sea isle city. as we roll through the day, chilly, 57 degrees is the high at 3:00 p.m. main line cloudy skies today although at times there could be a pop-up sprinkle or shower. when i step inside things get better tomorrow and better heading into the workweek. we'll have that and the track on hurricane joaquin. >> parts of north wild began flooding before the high tide moved in. towns up and down the jersey shore were preparing for the floodwaters. trish hartman was in north wildwood last night and has the details. angry winds and stinging rain

we're updating it from the latest reports from the shore and videos and photos of flooding. a deadly highrise fire at an apartment building in the chestnut section of philadelphia has cost a man his life. the action cam was on the scene of the chestnut hill to your on stenton avenue. a fire broke out at a unit on the top floor of the 18 story structure. crews pulled an unconscious man from the apartment. the victim in his 50s was pronounced at the hospital. firefighters evacuated the buildings during the blaze. residence have been allowed to return, but so far no word on a cause. new this morning, a man has been taken to a delaware hospital after getting hit by a car while walking on a bridge. the action cam wassen the scene of the -- was on the scene of the 1400 block of washington avenue in wilmington. the man in his 30s was walking

across the bridge when he was truck. medics performed cpr and transported him to the hospital. no word on his condition. the driver of the car that struck him stopped immediately and remained at the scene. today marks 20 years since the oj simpson double murder verdict that captivated millions when the trial was broadcast on tv. >> we the jury find the defendant not guilty of the crime of murder. >> reporter: the former football star was acquitted in the murder of his ex-wife nicole brown simpson and her friend ron goldman. a civil court found him liable. he was ordered to pay $33 million to the goldman and brown families. simpson is in jail for an armed robbery conviction that happened in las vegas. a highway exit has been

♪ >> rescue workers in guatemala are combing through the debris from a huge mudslide hoping to find survivors, one man was pulled alive 15 hours after the mudslide hit. 26 bodies were found, several children. 600 people could be missing. many people were sleeping when the mudslide struck. heavy rains are blamed for triggering the mudslides. two men are in critical condition after their boat capsized in stormy waters near new york city. the vessel had five men aboard when it flipped over in the jamaica bay section. two swam ashore and alerted

police. the nypd coast guard rescued three others, two in the water and one holding on to the boat. it was a nasty day out there yesterday. >> reporter: it's going to be another windy one today, but not as wet. not a day for boaters. storm tracker 6 live double scan we are drying out compared to the last couple of days. we look at storm tracker 6 live, light nuisance showers clearing philadelphia and pushing up to the north. areas you don't see green you can see drizzle this morning. generally speaking dry most of the day and a lot less rain than than the last couple of. as we look outside, we have cloudy skies down the shore, there's cape may, new jersey, the surf is heavy today and the coastal flooding still an issue down the shore. future tracker 6 let's cover the rain for you, as we go through the morning up to about noon, it does look like we continue to see the rain thin out, there might be sprinkles and showers left over south of philadelphia. and through the afternoon mainly

dry up to 6:00 a couple of coastal showers possible. maybe something pops here and there, around the immediate region, generally speaking we are looking at drier conditions with cloudy skies out there. wind gusts are an issue as we are looking at them in the 30s. 40 miles per hour in wildwood and continuing up to noon with gusts as high as 50 down the shore, the models showing them more like the 30s and 40s. by 7:00 p.m., there you see the higher gusts closer to the coast. inland it will be windy, but not as gusty. it stays cool and cloudy. 53 degrees by 11:00. 2:00 p.m., 56. 57 degrees is the high this afternoon probably at 3:00 p.m. windy, cloudy, damp at times. high temperatures cool in allentown. mid 50s there and in trenton. 62 in cape may that have this a. 64 in atlantic city. again, coastal flooding is a problem at times of high tide this afternoon and tonight and maybe sunday, as well.

the next high tide in atlantic city is technically at 12:24, the frugd flooding could begin several showers before this time and there's another high tide after midnight tonight and sunday afternoon. generally the high tides are half to an hour on either side of the times i'm showing you depending on where you are up and down the coast. gusts today, 40 to 50 miles per hour down the shore, waves running 6 to ten feet that means more major coastal flooding in spots and damaging beach erosion continuing as well. if you're heading on the town in philadelphia. bring along a jact, -- jacket, it's going to be windy and cool. 55 degrees by 7:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m., 53 degrees. we have clouds and sunny breaks up north, but not a lot rain on

future tracker 6. down near the bahamas we have hurricane joaquin. look at the eye, you can see it's very pronounced there. the storm is pulling away from the bahamas, things will get better there. the storm stays off the coast. it's a category one hundreds of miles off the coast. we'll get heavy surf down the shore from that, but that's it. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, today's high, 57 degrees, winds and damp, dry for a good portion of the day. tomorrow, cloudy and breezy, mostly dry, high of 63. monday breezy and starting to get milder. we'll get up to 67 degrees there. we're in the low 70s, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday, next chance of rain is probably friday night into saturday. we'll see how the long range models handle that over the next seven days. >> new jersey governor chris christie wore a fleece jacket for the media briefing on the

weekend storms. just so you know it was not the fleece. he said he still has the blue fleece inscribed with his name that he wore during the recovery of super-storm sandy. he decided to wear other fleeces given to him by towns across the state. >> given hurricane joaquin wasn't come ashore i didn't think it was appropriate to break out the heavy arrest -- artillery of the fleece. >> he said he will wear the blue fleece in case of emergency instead of the one that was given to him by the folks in camden county. we'll be right back.

>> a recap of our top stories, flooding roads in parts of the jersey shore. this home in north wildwood has become a sad sinking victim. flooding. the high tide after it collapsed into the water overnight. taking a live picture this morning, sky6 live hd in atlantic city. the winds are blowing the camera around, the waves are kicking up. the only people excited about that today, the surfers. meteorologist david murphy joining us now with another look at the accuweather forecast and, of course, concern about the coastal flooding. >> reporter: it is winds rocking the camera around part of the problem. today, alicia you can see we have coastal flood warning for high tides today and sunday at 6:00 p.m.
