good morning, saturday, october 3. eva pilgrim is off, i'm alicia vitarelli. let's get you to the the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, chris sowers is off, and meteorologist david murphy joining us saturday morning. >> reporter: we're all catching up from the pope coverage. that coastal flooding will be an issue. as you mentioned we have a high tide rolling in a little after lunchtime. the water will be high enough at high tide we're seeing the water coming back in and starting to create flooding issues, even now. as we look at storm tracker 6 live double scan, you can see there's a little bit of precipitation around, not much. an hour or two ago we had more around philadelphia. but this is pushing up to the north. the heavy stuff is long gone. the only thing coming off the ocean is light nuisance showers. that's going to be the case the rest of the day. cloudy cool and feeling damp with the sprinkles and showers coming in. nothing like the rain of the last couple of days. we have a coastal flood warning

today and tonight and through 6:00 p.m. sunday. the next high tide between noon and 2:00 p.m. up and down the coast. as i mentioned we'll build toward that increasing flooding several hours priority -- prior to the high tide. there's more flooding coming of a midnight during the high tide. another one tomorrow afternoon will give us problems. we have 350-mile an hour gusts possible along the coast and windy gusts not so bad, but significant down the shore and in philadelphia up around 30 miles per hour. the temperature cool, 52 degrees in philadelphia. hadn't moved that far since dawn this morning. 49 in trenton. in the 40s in allentown and reading. 61 in sea isle city. as we roll through the day, 57 degrees is the high today. look at how far below the average high of 71. alicia, at least the rain is diminishing. things get better tomorrow and

monday, i'll have the details in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. >> now, more on the flooding fears for some people at the jersey shore they have become a reality for others. it is now, wait and see if their property will be spared. check out this brand new video, a home knocked over and shuttled into the bay. see it peeking up right there. it happened overnight during flooding at the jersey shore. john rawlins is live at the shore in middle township. he has more on the flooding all the damage that was the left behind after those heavy rains yesterday, john. >> reporter: hi, alicia, first of all, we should say with the rain and wind and tidal issues we have routine problems you see at the shore. as for the elephant in the room. let's look over here. that's the unusual aspect here. behind me is not a boat it's not a pier, it is at least a position of a house.

we'll tell you what we know about it in a moment, but first first -- strong onshore winds, rain and high tides, a bad weather trifectaummels shorepoints while bay side water bubbled up through storm drains. dozens of blocks saw knee deep flooding, water was on the white horse pike in absecon forcing its closure. in north wildwood, this eatery surrounded by water at 3:00 a.m. veterans of previous events knew to move cars and small craft. >> had a hobbie cat on the beach. had it get it off the beach. a house in the grassy sound air

of middle township appeared in pearl. by nightfall the situation deteriorated as the house slid into the water. this morning as the sun came up, it appears the house is largely submerged in the bay. so there it is right now, it's a live picture of the house or a portion of the house, we contacted local police here they had no comment today saying they wouldn't have anything to say until monday, hopefully that will change overnight weekend. we are told by talking to residents that building is from a half mile north of where i am standing. it was built on a pier structure and slipped away from it's moorings. we understand it was not occupied at the time. as we get more information we'll pass it along. live in middle township, john rawlins channel 6 "action news." >> that's a shame, john, thank

you so much. the rain-soaked ground is blamed for causing this tree to be uproot the overnight. it fell on top of the row home in lawncrest. it happened on the 1700 block of crystal street around 4:00 a.m. nobody was hurt and thankfully not much damage to the home. we could hear the wind whipping there. officials in ocean city maryland are trying to determine whether or not this storm has cost them a significant portion of their beach. they won't be able to make a complete assessment until the storm passes, but the rains and high winds caused flooding in the area and threatened much of the shore resort beach area. a full beach remen some time could cost the -- replenishment could cost the beach -- the city

up to $10,000. a person died in south carolina. the governor under people in low-lying towns to flee their homes. once the rain ends there may be more flooding because the ground is too saturated. strong winds threaten to take down trees and water. the coast guard will resume their search for a considering ship caught in hurricane joaquin. 28 americans make up the 33 crew members, that ship longer than two football fields have not been heard from for at least a day. the crew reported power problems and said the ship was beginning to list. this cell phone video gives you an idea of the storm at power, uprooting trees and flooding there. a reporter went with a crew into the belly of joaquin.

>> reporter: lightning fills the darkness of sky. a few hours into the journey sunlight reveals clouds and thunderstorms on the horizon. >> we're about to punch into the eye wall going into the strongest part of the hurricane feeling winds in the excess of 150 miles per hour. we'll experience severe turbulence and there's more to come. >> reporter: as we get tossed around inside the cockpit our seasoned pilot assures us we're in good hands. >> is it safe? >> you're have been safe in the 130. >> reporter: we're 7,000 feet above the northern bahamas in the center of hurricane joaquin. this storm has been difficult to predict, but the weather data retrieved will improve the forecast grate e -- greatly. multiple drop sounds are released into the sky sending

back wind speed and storm pressure in real time. joaquin is pushing north. as we make several passes over the storm, a missing ship is stranded in rough swells we dropped to 600 feet to help search, but thick clouds an poor visibility prevents us from finding the vessel. cnn biloxi. incredible video david murphy here with the accuweather forecast. joaquin looks like he's not coming to town in this area. >> reporter: it will stay off the coast as far as we are concerned. it is starting to pull away from the bahamas which is good news because it's been parked there for the last couple of days. as it moves toward the north you can see the eye of the hurricane reappearing there. it's a category three storm and starting to make the move to the north. as we take a look at the latest track from the national weather

service, 125-mile an hour wind means this is a category three storm. you can see the recent track. it started out to the north an went into the bahamas and starting to push toward the north. as we look at the projected track it's well off the coast. this track is farther away from the previous track. it will be a category one storm and the winds will push heavy surf in on the the jersey and delaware coastline as we go into early next week. it's pretty much a miss for us. there's a model track that brings it toward atlanta and raleigh, but you can see the majority of the models are trending this out to sea. alicia as we go into the week, that storm will be so far away the breezes die down we'll get improvement in the seven day around here, i'll have the details coming up. >> you can track the wet weather on the go download the

storm tracker 6 live app. it is free through the google play or apple app stores. developing out of afghanistan this morning doctors without borders say three their staff is dead and 30 missing after the hospital was bombed. the aid organization said the bombing took place at 2:10 afghan time. afghan forces have been trying to take back the city recently overrun by taliban. u.s. forces acknowledged they conducted an airstrike and they may have accidently hit a medical facility. new this morning, a deadly highrise fire at an apartment building in the chestnut hill section of philadelphia. the action cam was on the scene at the chestnut hill to your -- tower on stenton avenue. a fire broke out in the unit on the top floor of the 18-story

structure. crews pulled an unconscious man from the apartment. the victim in his 50s was pronounced at the hospital. firefighters evacuated the building during the blades. the residents have been allowed to return. so far no word on a cause. there's much more to come on "action news" saturday morning. pope francis took over philadelphia last weekend with his presence and his spirit. if you didn't get a chance to see him, the franklin institute has the perfect exhibit for you. meteorologist david murphy returning with more on the coastal storm triggering flooding in parts of the area, the jersey shore is taking a hard punch from this, the second punch from joaquin appears to be averted. you're watching "action news" saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. we'll be right back.

9:15 saturday morning, pretty damp and dreary out there for you. meteorologist david murphy is here, we'll only hit 57 degrees. a lot of people posted on social media, saying we have the ac on a couple of days ago now we're cranking out the heat. >> reporter: i'm holding ground trying to not to put the heat on and holding out for the 70s. may lose that argument in my house. we are mainly dry after a rainy overnight for the last couple of

days 678 we have additional sprinkles and showers moving across the coastline and atlantic city and southern burlington county. philadelphia in the process of drying out. there may be drizzle around, fi give you the wide -- if i give you the wide view allentown is getting a sprinkle popping through. this is all you'll get the rest of the an occasional light sprinkle. as we look outside we have cloudy skies, of course, the cameras are bouncing a bit because of we have strong winds off the ocean. that's creating heavy surf and coastal flooding. as we look at future tracker 6 between now and noon you can see it's the same pattern we just showed you, just a few spotty sprinkles and showers around. more of the same up to 6:00. the best chance of rain is closer to the coast where we have the strong winds coming in continuing to exacerbate that problem. 11:00, cloudy and cool and damp.

the winds will be gusting through the day, as well. they will be stronger closer to the coast. but even in philadelphia, noon, 34-mile an hour possible and more of the same up until 6:00 p.m. some of these gusts down the shore could get to 50 miles per hour. we have the wind advisory in effect until 6:00 p.m. 57 is the high in philadelphia. wilmington, 55 in allentown and trenton. 56 in reading. atlantic city might get up to 64 degrees. next high tides, well the next one is in the process of buildings right now. it to himself out in atlantic city at 12:30 p.m. there's another one after midnight tonight and early sunday afternoon. all these of these have concerns with the coastal flood warning in effect until 6:00 p.m. after this tide starts to settle and we get the water down below flood stage. we had severe flooding and we're expecting that potentially today.

gusts 40 to 50 miles per hour. wave heights 6 to 10 feet. major coastal flooding we're seeing that with the horrific story of the house floating into the bay. damaging beach erosion continuing over the next 24, 48 hours. if you're heading out on the town. bring a coat. i don't know that you'll need an umbrella. there might be a sprinkle or shower around. 55 by 7:00. 53 by 11:00. tomorrow, more of the same, cloudy, sunny breaks later in the day. perhaps digging into philadelphia, basically dry tomorrow. hurricane joaquin is a category three. still looks like it's going to miss us off the coast. a category one up around our latitude. that's weird because they usually overrate into tropical storms or depression. 67 degrees on monday, entirely

noon, the wind still a concern for most of us. eva pilgrim is off, i'm alicia vitarelli. we head out first to david murphy in for chris sowers with the accuweather forecast. >> reporter: alicia it's cool and uncomfortable with the winds blowing across the terrace right now. take a look at storm tracker 6 live double scan, the heavy rain from overnight is gone and we've got a couple of isolated nuisance sprinkles pushing in off the ocean. that's all we'll see the rest of the day the light nuisance stuff and spotty. we have a coastal flood warning in effect through today and tonight into sunday up until 6:00 p.m. there are three more high tides that have our focus of concernment next one between noon and 2:00 p.m. waves running 6 to ten feet. there's another one after midnight tonight and one sunday afternoon. wind advisory in effect with gusts as high as 50 miles per

hour along the ocean frnlt -- oceanfront along atlantic city, wildwood and rehoboth beach. even in the i-95 corridor, the winds are strong. temperatures are cool, too. 52 in philadelphia currently. still still in the 40s in trenton, allentown reading an lancaster. 60 in sea isle city. the temperatures are not changing that much. we'll get a high of 57 well below the average high of 71. the overnight low is cool, there could spotty bits and pieces of drizzle and shower activity overnight tonight. looks like the rain is less of a problem today and alicia it will be less of a problem tomorrow. plus, temperatures will start to inch back tomorrow afternoon. i'll have the details in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. >> all right, david, thank you. in the meantime, the damage has been done for some people wiping off the lens still rain going on we'll switch live to "action news" reporter, john

rawlins. john, hurricane joaquin will miss the shore, but the storm leaving it's own legacy and that poor house sinking over there. >> reporter: i'm not sure we need a hurricane. it's bad enough as is. for the most part we have to say that the rain and the wind and the tides have produced mostly routine issues, though, not entirely. now we look behind in the house you were speaking. not routine at all. this has been in the making for a day. the remains of the house that are submerged in the bay came from about a half mile away apparently built along a pier and there was some sort of failure. this picture is from a facebook posting yesterday. this house is in the grassy sound area of middle township. reportedly it slipped its moorings. nightfall much worse with the stuck tur lifting. it appears much of the house is

submerged in the bay. surely there is a frustrating, but fascinating story. elsewhere, rain win and high tides brought more conventional problems. there were reports of widespread street flooding and street closures. this is atlantic city at 1:45. this is spruce and maryland avenue in north wildwood. this lone seagull was taking it in. this sort of weather make it tough to get around. those who can stay inside. those who go into work have to deal with it. >> you have to watch yourself and not fall. the water this morning was still up, i had to walk through it to go to work this morning. >> trying to use the umbrella it was hard, windy, i'm all wet. >> reporter: well, slow getting around because of the all the road closures. back to our house that is lurking out there in the bay,

not a good morning out there, we contacted the local police here to see if they had anything they could tell us about it, they wouldn't have anybody available until monday. we reached out to the county's emergency management folks. it's a frustrating story to see how the house failed and ended up where it did. alicia. >> townsend inlet bridge connecting avalon and sea isle city is closed because of the high waves. the storm was a test for the breench -- beaches replenished since super-storm sandy. officials say you will the work appear to have paid off. >> our beach held up, it's designed to withstand this explts when it -- and that's whs doing. rainfall amounts vary across the viewing area. keep track of what's going on in

neighborhood using 6abc.com. we're updating it with the latest reports from the shore along with videos and photos of the flooding. also new this morning, a man has been taken to a delaware hospital after getting hit by a car while he was walking on a bridge. the action cam wassen 0 the scene on the -- was on the scene on the 1400 block of washington street in north wilmington. he was walking across the bridge when he was struck. medics performed cpr and transported him to christiana hospital. the driver stopped and remained at the scene. police released a video of a man they say sexually assaulted a temple university student. septa video shows the suspect clearly on the broad street line near the off-campus crime scene. he used a gun to terrorize the

female student. >> forced the victim behind a construction pod or dumpster in the 1400 block of carlisle street where he robbed her and, sexually assaulted her. >> police think the man carried out other robberies at gunpoint in the same area before attacking that temple university student. call 911 with any tips. we are learning details built alleged gunman in thursday's shooting rampage on a oregon college campus. this as the tight night community tries to come together after the tragedy. we have more from roseburg oregon. >> reporter: surrounded by gunfire, this woman tells abc in an exclusive interview she tried to save her close friend. >> you could hear, pop pop in the other classroom, but it was too late.

just breathe. >> reporter: she was among the nine victims shot and killed at a quiet community college in roseburg, oregon. amid the chaos there are more stories of heroism. >> he ran back into the buildings. the army vet pulled it fire alarm and survived seven gunshot wounds. >> he said it is my son's birthday today. >> reporter: investigators say the gunman 26-year-old chris harper mercer was enrolled in the class he targeted. witnesses say he asked the victims about his religious relief before firing. they are investigating whether the attack was motivated by religion. mercer was found with 6 guns and owned seven more purchased legally. >> i care about the families that he has affected. >> reporter: at this memorial

early this morning we had something to show you, the only thing we have to show you is light nuisance showers rolling off the ocean and shooting up toward the north. not all of these will make it into philadelphia and the northern and western suburbs. right now the northern and western suburbs, i-95 corridor basically dry. maybe a little drizzle on your windshield. sky 67 showing the clouds lifting up a little bit. you can see the tops of most of the buildings. 52 degrees, cool in the upper 40s in trenton, lancaster. 58 in millville. milder in cape may, 60 degrees, we have winds out of the northeast and that's adding to the chilly feel. in terms of rain doesn't look like there will be a whole lot around today. between now and noon, a few sprinkles and showers. a lot of down the shore a struggle to get to philadelphia. more of the same until 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. tonight. cloudy and cool not particularly

a comfortable day with the wind blowing, but far less rain around than the last couple of days. up in the lehigh valley, spotty rain possible, 55 degrees. down the shore, 64 the high. milder, windy and damp. the big issue down the shore is the wind coming onshore off the ocean and continuing to exacerbate problems with the next coastal flooding. next high tiled in atlantic city, 12:24 and after midnight at 1:00 a.m. sunday afternoon all these are covered by coastal flood warning. we'll have major flooding leading up to and descending away from the three times. mid 50s in allentown and trenton. 57 in philadelphia. 06 in millville. and low to mid 60s down the shore. if you're heading to the phillies they are playing two after being rained out last night. the numbers are not changing

very much. that's the 4:00 p.m. temperature at the beginning of game one. this is 9th inning of game two. windy and chilly, maybe damp but not a lot of rain down at the ballpark. you get a lot of baseball for the price of one if you feel like going and fending the cool, windy condition. down in dover, they will get the racing in, 63 degrees is the high. sunday, 67 degrees, very good chance of being dry in dover. tomorrow looks like there will be very little rain around. cloudy skies and sunshine breaking in the picture especially in the northern half of the region. hurricane joaquin is breaking away from the bahamas it will be way out to sea as it passes us early next week. today's high in the 50s, 57 degrees, damp at times, but mainly dry. damp and breezy tomorrow, 63.

philadelphia. someone called a coincidence, she is calling it divine intervention. ali gorman has the story. >> reporter: 62-year-old deborah is resting comfortably at jefferson university hospital. she is catholic and believes it may have been divine intervention. >> i think so. >> reporter: it just so happened the day pope francis arrived is the day she got the call she had been waiting for four years, a kidney was available. the couple knew getting to the hospital from their home in south jersey would take intervention. fortunately they say it's a scenario they anticipated. >> we had a contingency plan we worked out prior prior to the w. >> reporter: she said new jersey state police along with a ambulance they were given an escort over the closed ben
