hundreds of people rescued from the raging water. president obama signed an emergency declaration. freeing up aid for south carolina. we have full team coverage. rob mas yan know is in charleston, south carolina. good morning. >> good morning. it's been four days of relentless rain. it's stopped for now. look at the iconic streets here in charleston. still flooded. this city, still shut down. this entire state, really, reeling from the devastating floods. this morning, south carolina under siege. >> this is an unprecedented event. >> reporter: relentless rain. an additional five inches along the coast possible today. more flash flood mag jor concern. >> we haven't seen this level of rain in the low country in 1,000 years. that's how big this is. >> reporter: hundreds of evacuations. nearly 30,000 without power.

officials about rate issing 600 members of the national guard. as rivers reached their highest level in decades. this high school football fielding look like a stadium pool. the conditions fatal, with at least seven deaths so far across the carolinas believed to be related to the storm. drones capturing the swollen roads from above. nearly 75 miles of i-95 shut down in both directions. officials urging residents to stay off the roads. in columbia, watch as one man loses control of his pickup. a good samaritan wading out to rescue him. kicking out the back window and staying with the driver until crews could arrive. trained rescuers not even safe. >> we've had a west columbia firefighter swept away. they've lost visual contact. >> reporter: not one, but two firefighters swept away. both okay now. >> we've recoverered our firefighter. he's in the truck with me.

total devastation. >> everything that i own has been destroyed. >> reporter: people wading across streets to see what's left in their home. that's a bed frame wrapped in that tree. >> i've been here since 1986. i have never seen anything like this in columbia, south carolina. >> reporter: this man using his own boat to help with rescues. >> i was stomping on the roof and listening to see if anybody thumped back. we found a note that said we're in the attic. >> reporter: officials warning be prepared to be without drinking water for days. after water mains broke. >> it's hard. everything. my card. my pictures. >> reporter: overnight, we caught up with kelly, who grabbed anything and everything she could, as water came rushing in. >> i was throwing stuff on beds to try to, like, save stuff. >> reporter: the water pouring in so fast, nearly covering her. she'll spend today salvaging what she can.

>> with the holidays coming up, it will be sad. >> reporter: there's a boil order here. the flood waters in some of the most inundated areas have already started receding. amy? >> good news, alex. record rain. more than two feet in some areas. ginger, unfortunately, even though we heard the bit of good news,s the not over yet. >> we have about 24 hours more to deal with. the rain from south carolina into north carolina. imminent danger from wilmington to charleston. it takes us to noon tomorrow until we finally see things drying out. the rivers still rise. they still crest and flow over. by tend of the week is when we can really say, ah, things have cleared up. you can still see a lot of the wild life coming through as the flood waters too. snakes, ail garrlligatoralligat

to watch for. there's a low stuck in place, grabbing the tropical moisture. sending south carolina and north carolina a lot of moisture. totally separate from the b bermuda storm. it's racing off toward europe. that is what we're tracking. we'll have more coming up. we turn to the desperate search for a cargo ship that vanished in the bahamas on thursday with 33 people on board. that ship got caught in hurricane joaquin. a category 4 storm at its peak. winds topping 115 miles an hour. linzie janis has the latest from miami. good morning, linzie. >> reporter: good morning, george. the ship was going from jacksonville to puerto rico. this morning, many families of the crew wondering why it ended up in the middle of the hurricane. the company that owns the "el faro" saying the captain was very experienced and wouldn't put the crew at risk. the search is on for survivors.

this morning, exclusive video inside the desperate search for the crew of the "el faro." sunday, rescuers honing in on a 225-mile stretch. >> we found there was thousands of pieces of debris. >> reporter: the coast guard also uncovering a container and oil sheen believed to be from the vanished cargo ship. and this life ring confirmed to be from the "el faro." the multiagency search for the 33 missing crew members now spanning 70,000 square nautical miles. roughly the size of michigan. on board the vessel, 28 americans, five poles, 391 containers carrying about 300 trailers and cars. the crew sending a distress signal at 7:20 a.m. thursday morning. at the time, it was near crooked island in the bahamas.

staff members. the humanitarian organization doctors without borders outraged, blaming the u.s., calling the air strike a war crime. and demanding an independent investigation. martha raddatz has the latest from washington. >> reporter: good morning, amy. the pentagon has acknowledged the u.s. launched an air strike that night in kundus saying that u.s. special forces helping afghan troops were coming under fire. they acknowledge that the air strike may have inadvertently hit the hospital. several questions remain. how close were the troops to the hospital? and was there any other way to get help without an air strike? and did the military know there was a hospital in the vicinity as they were circling overhead and take the risk of those inside any way. doctors without boarders said they had given the coordinates to the u.s. military numerous time. president obama has offered

and crying. and -- he -- he asked everyone to move to the center of the classroom. so we all kind of just like, army-crawled to the center. >> reporter: to say that 18-year-old anastasia boylan feels lucky to be alive doesn't do justice so how overwhelmed she feels to be here. you're thinking you might not make it out of the room? >> i didn't. i didn't think i was going make it. the last thing i remember praying was that my family and my loved ones and that the family and loved ones of my peers would somehow know that we're all okay. >> reporter: from her wheelchair inside the oregon hospital that helped save her from a gunshot wound to the back, she recounted the nine minutes of hell inside umpqua community college last thursday when chris mercer opened fire. she said the gunman even spoke

couple of seconds. and that he would be with god soon. and then he shot him. >> reporter: she played dead as he called out to her and kept her eyes shut. and then, it was over. >> all of a sudden, i heard that one kid in my class say that he was dead. he's dead. he's shot in the head. everything's okay. >> reporter: you made it. you're safe. >> i will never, ever take for granted a second, a minute, an hour, a day. ever again. >> reporter: such a strong woman. she still has some numb necessanumbness from the gunshot near her spine. she expects to make a full recovery. >> our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the roseburg community. we move on to an urgent manhunt in dallas. a woman who allegedly master minded a murder for hire.

for how they parent. 35% of moms feel judged for baby feeding style. 48% for working status. 53% because of discipline methods. 50% of mothers said it's okay to spank. and while modern moms may feel harshly judged by their peers, 86% who responded to the survey say they try not to judge other parents. they believe there is no one right way to approach motherhood. here with me, lindsey powers, editorial director for yahoo! parenting. is this specific to millennial moms. gen x moms. is it singular to these generations? >> we have surveyed more than 1,000 moms. it is actually growing. with facebook, you know, you're no longer comparing yourself to your parents and neighbors. you're comparing yourself to ever pers

every person you have ever met. parents are sensitive about discipline, their working status, and the behavior of their kids in public. 1 in 2 moms are jumed about that. >> i thought it was a new york thing. it is nationwide. the survey didn't focus on shaming. you found out what people feel about discipline and divorce. >> we found 50% of moms are okay with spanking. and a mom that we spoke to said her husband supports it more. it's something she'll do if her kid is in a dangerous situation. >> that's a surprising number. >> it's an old-fashioned thing to do. parents are embracing it. it's a good way to catch your child's attention, if you need the to break them out of something. 25% of parents said that they do think about divorce every once in awhile. more than 40% said, no way divorce is not an option.
