in the olney section of the city. a bus struck two pedestrians who are now in the hospital. one victim is a woman age 91. the other one her nephew age 68. the woman is in very critical condition. wednesday night, and the big story on "action news" tonight is the latest on a late-day accident involving a septa bus. it happened at fifth street and godfrey avenue in olney at 5:00 this afternoon. the bus ran over both the woman's legs. "action news" reporter chad pradelli live at einstein medical center where both victims are being treated. chad, what's the latest on the victim's conditions? >> jim, 91-year-old mary gable remains here in critical condition. at last check, she was in surgery as doctors fight to save her legs and her life. philadelphia police say the 91 year old woman and her 68-year-old nephew crossing fifth street on godfrey when the

septa bus made the left turn. the front of the bus didn't hit the two, but the back tires ran over the woman, crushing her legs and torso. >> from witnesses, they believe that the female that was walking west on godfrey crossing fifth had the green light, which means that the septa bus, which was traveling east on godfrey at fifth also had the green light. >>the victim lives a block away from the accident. neighbors identified her as mary gable, an energetic and spiritual woman who loves the use of the very legs crushed in the accident? she is healthy, strong as a bull. she polka dances and goes to the hospital and visits the sick and does polka dances, and she always shows me how she walks like a penguin. >> and her nephew who takes care of her escaped injury. >> i knows he is devastated.

>> and the accident was captured by septa's surveillance system. >> the pedestrians have the right-of-way whether it is red or green. you have to come to a complete stop and do whatever it takes to avoid striking a pedestrian. >> and the name of the septa driver has not been released. a spokesperson for the transit agency tells me that septa is cooperating and assisting in the investigation. live in olney, chad pradelli channel 6 "action news." jim? >> thank you, chad. investigators still haven't released the name of a psychiatrist found dead today. the victim a 55-year-old woman living on withers way. the victim's daughter discovered her body. less than an hour later a man called the police saying he is responsible. he has been arrested at a home in the autumnwood development. a vigil held tonight for a

local dirt bike riding legend. dozens on bikes gathered to remember the 23-year-old who was killed one year ago today. tyler was sitting in his car when he was shot nine times. and the case remains unsolved. the police in haddon township are trying to unravel a mystery. how did 3-year-old brendan creato die and was his death the result of foul play? live in haddon township is "action news" reporter dann cuellar. dann, residents must be extraordinarily concerned. what the are the authorities saying? >> well jim, with the findings of the medical examiner said to be inconclusive they have to wait up to a month for the results of the toxicology tests. you can imagine that there is growing anxiety with this mystery that seems to be growing and residents wondering what is it all about. >> 911, where is your memergenc.

>> i just woke up and my 3-year-old is missing. >> and in a calm voice. d. jfrme d.j. creato is telling him his son is missing. >> i don't know where he is. i guess he unlocked it and left. >> and three hours later they would find brendan creato's lifeless hoed -- body in a wooded area. and today they reported that the medical examiner could not determine the cause or manor of the child's death. that did nothing to relieve the nervous tension around here. >> i am nervous because i have a 5-year-old. of course it's something we're all thing about and we'd like no know what's going on. >> i think it is perplexing to everybody. and i think that's what makes it so painful. people want answers. >> today the investigators went back to the park looking for anything they may have missioned the day before. and also retraced the roots from the cooper street apartment to

the park trying to figure out how the child ended up there. >> how did it happen? by the hand of another? natural cause? we don't know. we are still pretty shook up by it. >> tonight residents attending a farmers market. >> we told people to come out to the market to be together to feed their soul with food and eat together. and everyone is speechless and really doesn't know what to say about what happened. >> so far d.j. creato declined to speak with reporters, but his mother tells "action news" that he is innocent and he is just as heart broken as anyone else. live here in haddon township, dann cuellar for channel 6 "action news." >> thank you, dann. former philadelphia naacp president was remembered today in the celebration of life ceremony. family, friends and dignitaries gathered at bright hope baptist church in north philadelphia.

among them the former governor ed rendell and mayor nutter. and he was described as a sometimes agitator usually fighting the right cause. and today would have been his 66th birthday. after nearly eight years as philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey announced he is retiring. he says the city's new mayor needs the freedom to choose his or her own commissioner. ramsey, who was 65, came out of retirement back in 2008 to lead the philadelphia police department. he will step down on january 7, the anniversary of his swearing in. but he still plans to be active in law enforcement. >> time to move to a different level and i think i can have a big impact nationally on issues that are facing law enforcement today. >> a native of chicago and served in that department near highway three decades from there he became the chief in

washington, d.c. his worked earned him an international reputation. last year he was selected by president obama to co-chair a committee on policing in response to civil unrest around the country. today the president issued a statement thanking ramsey for his service and wishing him "a restful retirement." "action news" reporter annie mccormick live at police headquarters. have you spoken to a variety of people who have working relationships with the commissioner. what are they saying? >> jim, some of those people with working relationships also at times didn't always see eye-to-eye with the commissioner but do respect him. we also talked to members of the community. they are talking about what type of impact that commissioner ramsey will leave behind. >> we had a good working relationship. sometimes we banged heads but we did it in private. >> saying one thing he will always agree on is how charles ramsey helped the families of the police officers killed in

the line of duty during his ten tour. >> i have never seen anybody do what he has done for officers who were killed in the line of duty and nature families. >> john, a former homicide detective and head of the citizens crime commission also commended the top cop. >> he can deal with the citizens and media and politicians. you may not always like his decisions, but they were probably right and he stood by them all the way. >> and he moved more police on to foot and vice in the worst areas. and in the 311 system adding transparency. and expanded through social media and officer's body cameras. and last year unrest on police shootings, and president obama named ramsey co-chair. and the black lives matter protest and the protests for brown shot by the police on mayfair are an ongoing presence at ramsey's speeches.

and tonight residents acknowledged there are tensions but had this to say about ramsey's work. >> i think one of the better decisions that he did make was making the philadelphia police force more transparent and it went a long way with mostly african-american men. >> he was up against a lot when he came there. and so wow, i don't know. he did his job. he did the best he could do. >> and for deputy commissioner richard ross to get a glowing recommendation from ramsey today, but that decision is up to the next mayor. reporting live outside of police headquarters, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." j jim? >> thank you. a labor dispute spilled on to the streets, gather along outside of the convention center. they are angry they have not been able to work at the venue
