woodland in southwest philadelphia where police caught the suspect around 3:00 p.m. here he is being escortd into a police station. barkin says he doesn't know the driver or the specifics of the dispute over money but he can't imagine why anyone would want to hurt keegan, a father of three. >> you know, make me very sad, you know. he -- he is not person to lie or cheat somebody or whatever. he's always honest. >> reporter: we just checked and abington hospital says kagan is in fair condition. there's no name on the suspect right now but we're told he will face charges in philadelphia on weapons charges and of course charges here in montgomery county for the shooting. we are live in glenside, jeff chirico channel6 "action news." >> thank you jeff. parts of the tri-state area will experience their first frost this weekend. we will likely see temperatures in the 20's at least in some places. live at the "action news" big board is meteorologist cecily tynan. cecily, too cold too soon but what are those frigid facts

and figures? >> jim or weather is running about a month ahead of schedule this weekend. today, though, it felt like the middle of october. 63 degrees currently in philadelphia. our high 66 just 1 degree below the average high for this time of the year but if you look across the midwest and the great lakes, we're looking at temperatures in the 30's and 40's and this is the air mass that's gradually going to be moving in throughout the overnight hours. so, this shows really the scope of the cold air, about a thousand miles across from freeze warnings to frost advisories. freeze watch is here for the northwest suburbs and the pine barrens of new jersey and where we don't get a freeze we'll likely see frost. future tracker showing tomorrow afternoon temperatures in the 60's, temperature in the mid-50's, feeling cooler with brisk winds out of the northwest. on sunday, more cloud cover, afternoon highs struggling to make it up into the low 50's and overnight is when you'll really feel that cold air. this air mass is coming straight down from canada and

"action news" reporter trish hartman is live near time and

gold jewelers on south 19th street in center city. trish, what's the latest here? >> reporter: well, jim, the owners of time and gold went with detectives earlier this afternoon for interviews and we're told that's a standard part of the investigation. in the meantime police have been here for much of the day trying to figure out who is behind this brazen jewelry heist that spanned three properties. time and gold owner danny shows us the safe with gaping holes where he says $250,000 worth of gold and diamond jewelry was swiped. >> it's like a part of a movie. it's just straight from a movie. police say sometime between wednesday night and thursday morning someone broke into a vacant business two doors down from the jewelry store on neathth street using the cellar door. the thief or thieves then cut through the walls to enter four seasons cleaners next door stealing about $100 from the register. >> they actually took the time to move the clothes that were blocking them to make the hole to another rack so not -- they didn't even toss it on the

floor or anything. >> reporter: then shop owners say the suspects cut through a second wall giving them access to the back of the jewelry shop's steel safe. >> police think this was an organized calculated crime. take a look. these are two pieces cut from the back of the safe. the suspects would have needed special tools with special blade in order to cut this. >> it's got to be very upsetting. >> reporter: customers were shocked to hear the news. the husband and wife owners say they run the shop themselves and don't have insurance for this store. >> i came from broad and girard and over there i have all insurance there and everything and was guard and i thought i come , who it's the best part in philadelphia. >> reporter: now, police are still looking at surveillance footage from area businesses to see if there's anything helpful. they also hope to remove that safe from the business as forensic evidence. live in center city, trish hartman channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you trish. investigators released new surveillance video of the suspects in the armed robberies of two students at

temple university. police believe the same two men were responsible for both crimes early yesterday morning. at tenth and susquehanna they pointed a gun at the victim and stole his 2005 cadillac. three hours later, police say they robbed another temple student of his debit cards at 15th and montgomery. you can get another look at the suspects at 6abc.com. one man died this afternoon after he became trapped underneath his car in devon. police were called to the 200 block of lancaster avenue at 2:30. the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. he was the only person in the vehicle. investigators are trying to figure out what caused the accident. a jury is now deliberating the fate of demolition contractor griffin campbell. he is charged with six counts of third degree murder in the center city building collapse. prosecutors allege that he left a brick wall unsupported before it crumbled onto a salvation army store in 2013.

june 5th, 2013. six people were killed, 13 others were hurt. campbell's attorney said that he was used as a pawn by the developer and the architect who hired him. for one final time, a u.s. airways plane took off today from philadelphia international airport airport. in fact, the u.s. airways name is no more. $57 million effort to replenish a large section of the jersey shore. the army corps of engineers is widening the beaches building dunes and improving storm drains in sea isle city. part of strathmere and ocean city will be included in the project. in sea isle the beaches will be up to 300 feet wider at high tide when the work is done. a swat team responded to their parkside section of philadelphia today after a report of gunfire and a car accident. police found one vehicle crashed into a utility pole and another with heavy front end damage just down the road. it happened just before 12:30 along the 800 block of north holly street. investigators have not said if anybody was actually shot. in new castle a delaware national guard airman received the bronze star for his brave actions in afghanistan. technical sergeant aaron webber helped to eliminate more than 1500-pound of enemy

explosives. he gathered crucial information that led to the capture of four high valid targets. philadelphia firefighters were on the special mission today to save lives in strawberry mansion. with ladders in hand they went door to door installing free smoke detectors. commissioner derek sawyer was joined by volunteers from the insurance society of philadelphia. this effort is expected to reach up to 240 homes. a first grader embraced his favorite police officer in camden today. officer alicea is your surprised seven-year-old jayden with a brand new bike for his birthday. the pair became good friends after the officer was assigned to foot patrols near jayden's school at york ship elementar elementary.
