caught on camera dragging an officer by the hair on the ground. >> it is friday night and the big story on "action news" is the chaos that broke out involving more than a hundred high school students. four officers were hurt as they tried to break up yesterday's fight and today police are looking for more teenagers who were involved. >> "action news" reporter vernon odom live outside william allen high school with us for thforthe latest. >> reporter: four local police officers have been treater and released from the hospital following yesterday's violence here in the neighborhood surrounding william allen high school where tonight a lot of the students are condemning the rioters. the security level was way up outside allen high dismissal time today. as school and police officials made sure they could preventer a repeat of yesterday's violence. a riot scene where 100 students were caught up in the fighting. four officers were injured including the female officer you see here knocked to the ground.

at this hour five students have been arrested and charged at least three of them female. many of their fellow students are disgusted. >> the chaos behind me. >> reporter: what about it? >> it's immaturity really. they have no respect and i can understand why they name allen as the most worst school. >> reporter: for too many students we saw after school today, this was an opportunity to profanely mug for the news cameras. allentown's mayor and the police chief say more arrests are imminent on charges including aggravated assault and riot both of which are felonies. >> their officers showed remarkable restraint when their own personnel safety was at risk. violence against police officers cannot be tolerated. the perpetrators of this violence will be held accountable. >> we'll continue to investigate this until everybody that was involved has been identified. >> reporter: many police and students say the trouble makers represent only a fraction of allen student body. >> i think it was horrible. 'cause the kids that did that to look cool try to impress their friends and stuff. >> it's very unhackst

new castle county police want to get the word out to you. aware of it. >> reporter: jessica win was just weeks into motherhood when her health took a bad turn. >> sitting on the couch feeding him and i looked down and noticed that my leg was swollen. >> reporter: she was initially told she had a superficial blood clot and center home. but within hours she was back at the hospital. >> started up here. >> reporter: the hospital at her home in dallas, texas, said the massive clot couldn't be removed. jessica was put on blood thinners and told no more running. >> no more running, no more skiing, no more hiking, no playing around with my newborn baby. >> reporter: then a relative connected her with dr. deepak at penn medicine. he discovered jessica had may thurner syndrome. it's when an artery in the pelvis lays on top of and compresses a vein. some doctors say the condition is wear. the doctor doesn't agree.

>> may-thurner present is probably present in what we think maybe 25 percent of the female population. >> reporter: he says for most people it never causes symptoms. but weight gain or inactivity could raise the rick for trouble. so does pregnancy because as the baby grows, there's less room causing more compression. the doctor broke up the clot with a device that sprays it with powerful drugs then vacuums it out. he also put a stent into the vein to keep it opened. jessica was on blood thinners for awhile but now just takes a baby aspirin and she was cleared for all activities. >> i'm running again and walking again and doing anything and everything. >> reporter: but jessica does wish she had been more aware of the risk for clots. she urges any woman who is pregnant or any new mom with swelling in her throwing get it checked out right away. ali gorman, channel6 "action news.

halloween, temple game. let's see what the forecast is. >> weather should be perfect. also the ben franklin bridge run on sunday it's looking really good and this is a live shot from drone6. it's flying over fairmount park. it's really great shot. you can see the foliage is peaking. you can also see some rowers on the schuylkill and actually matt pelman should use this for traffic. you can also see traffic conditions on the schuylkill expressway. this is really going to be a great weekend to get out and do some leaf peeping because we are at peek. now the fall foliage is past peek in the northern lehigh valley and the poconos but right along the i-95 corridor, the foliage is peaking still at moderate across south jersey and southern delaware. so, in addition to your neighborhood, good places to go, take a look at the color french creek state park, nockamixon state park, valley forge national park a great place to go and mercer county park and take a look at the fall foliage as it's peaking this weekend. temperatures show it feels like fall again. 60 degrees in philadelphia.

average high is 62. the past two days temperatures in the 70's so certainly a big change. allentown 57 wilmington 57, trenton 59 and cape may currently 56 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar showing what's going on, we saw a good amount of sunshine and some clouds bubbling up in the heat of the day and now the clouds are beginning to break up. we've got high pressure out to the west. what this high pressure will to, it will work to the east as we head through the weekend so that will allow some more clouds to stream in and also bring us warmer air for the second half of the weekend. so, future tracker showing tomorrow morning 10 o'clock in the morning we've got bright sunshine. temperatures across-the-board pretty much in the 40's so a chill in the air. as we head into the afternoon with a cloud cover temperatures even a little bit cooler than today at 4:30, 57 degrees in philadelphia, but with that cloud cover it will keep temperatures from dropping very quickly for halloween night. so, it won't be bone chilling for trick-or-treaters, it will be a little bit cool, lots of clouds winds will be on the light side at 6 o'clock

>> ♪ >> "action news" continues with meteorologist adam joseph, jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. >> ♪ >> hello again. here's what's happening on "action news" tonight. new details after a philadelphia police officer was injured trying to arrest a suspect. and rutgers university's camden campus is offering free tuition to new jersey families. plus after a string of church arsons in a saint louis area police finally make an arrest. >> now the details. a philadelphia police officer is recovering tonight after being injured earlier today during a chase. he was actually hit by another officer as they were trying the make an arrest. "action news" reporter jeff chirico is live at presbyterian hospital where that injured officer is being treated tonight. jeff. >> reporter: hey, rick, that officer was run over by a police van as he struggled way suspect in the middle of the street. now, police say that suspect is actually an uber driver.

chopper six over the scene around 1:30 this afternoon at 55th and pine. that's where the officer was hurt. now, the incident began several blocks away at 53rd and police. that's where police saw a man smash the windows of a parked car with a baseball bat. police approached him but the suspect got in his car and took off. eventually officers in an unmarked police pickup saw the suspect parking his car nearby. the suspect ran and a plainclothes police officer chased after him. now, police spokesman explains what happened next. >> as he grabbed him he fell into the street into the roadway and the uniformed officer in the van driving westbound was not able to stop quick enough and he runs over the leg of the one officer. >> reporter: police have not released the suspect's name but believe the suspect is a driver for uber and lyft. those are app based ride services. they're not sure why he went on the rampage but he will face charges including vandalism and reckless endangerment. now, as for that officer,

we're told he has a fractured foot and fractured toes. we are live in the powelton section of the city, jeff chirico, channel6 "action news." >> thank you jeff. new program at rutgers university camden will help new jersey families afford a higher education if grants don't take care of a student's expenses the school will then pay for the rest itself. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic live on campus with just how this program works. hi, nora. >> reporter: hi there, monica. this program is the first of its kind in new jersey and could be a game changer for students who thought they'd never be able to afford college. imagine what it would be like to earn a rutgers university degree at no cost. it doesn't seem possible but it will be next year under a new program offered to low income students at rutgers camden called bridging the gap. >> we are looking to make education affordable and to service the students that we do which are low income first generation students. >> it's putting a rutgers degree within their reach. >> reporter: here's how it

works. after applying for state and federal financial aid grants students with a family income of $60,000 a year or less will have the rest of their tuition and fees paid by rutgers. those with family income between 60 and $100,000 are eligible to have half their tuition and fees paid. those costs are usually about $14,000 a year. that sounds great to prospective students and parents touring the campus today. >> i think it's very exciting especially for like a single parent trying to save for college is difficult so, yeah, i'm definitely going to look into that. >> it's going bring rutgers camden a little bit higher on my list for colleges. probably fourth probably like second now second to first. >> reporter: this pie lot program will be for high school graduates you must be a utz sit 10 and attends classes at rutgers camden. >> i think it would be a good incentive for kids who didn't think they could go to school. >> reporter: almost two-thirds of the students here work between 20's and 40 hours a week with tuition

costs covered the goal is to give them more time to focus on school and avoid crippling student loan debt. >> i wish i could be in that program. >> reporter: lexi will owe $70,000 in loans when she graduates. >> yeah, they're all settled in debt after school and it's expensive. >> reporter:. >> that would have left hand me tremendously yeah. i go and seek out every program there is. >> reporter: now, bridging the gap does not cover the cost of room and board but 80 percent of the students here commute and if enrollment here jumps next year because of this unique program, well, rutgers officials say they're prepared to handle it. live in camden, i'm nora muchanic, channel6 "action news." rick. >> all right, nora, thank you. a former philadelphia mayor took the stand in day two of chaka fattah jr.'s trial. today john street took the stand and fielded questions from fattah jr. who is representing himself in court. street testified about his business relationship with fattah jr. and his role as a photographer for street's mayoral campaign. >> i was really, really busy.

i didn't -- i wasn't supervising or micro managing him. i just -- you know, i was doing what i did and he took a lot of pictures. >> fattah jr. is charged with bank and tax fraud. he claims he's being targeted by fbi agents who want to end his father's career. congressman fattah is also facing separate corruption charges. police in chester on the scene of a deadly shooting tonight. just before 4 o'clock this afternoon shots were fired around fifth and franklin streets near the william penn homes. police tell "action news" that the gunman was in a car when he shot two people. one of the victims died. the other was shot in the leg and was rushed to crozer-chester hospital. police are still searching for that gunman. philadelphia police are searching for at least two women who snatched more than $8,000 from a woman's purse. authorities released this surveillance video today showing the thieves at work in china town. according to police the suspects approached the victim near the reading terminal market last month after she withdrew money from an atm.

the suspects began talking to the victim and asked to see her purse. it wasn't until later that the victim realized $8,200 in cash was gone. >> developing news out of saint louis now. federal investigators say they've arrested a person for setting several church fires. he is 35-year-old david lopez jackson. in the last two weeks, seven churches were set on fire and mostly black neighborhoods. all the fires originated at the exterior door of each church and also happened when the churches were empty. a person was rescued after a building collapsed in new york's midtown manhattan and another victim was killed when part of that building collapsed this morning. crews will be demolishing a building to make way for a luxury boutique hotel. the injured worker had been trapped beneath the rubble for hours. it's not exactly clear what collapsed but scaffolding and net regular still up on the building. >> october is national fire prevention month. in camden firefighters want to

make sure residents know thousand stay safe. they held a fire prevention awareness day at the salvation army kroc community center. firefighter shared tips on preventing fires and showing offer their equipment and protective gear. today's event was presented by the camden city council and the mayor's office. dozens of people marched through downtown wilmington calling for justice. jerry mcdole's family and community members wants to know more about his death. mcdole who used a wheelchair was shot and killed by police last month. authorities say they fired when mcdole tried to pull a gun from his waist band. the four wilmington police officers involved remain on administrative leave. >> time to get a look at traffic for you on a friday night. >> one more time, matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. hey. >> it's not exactly a treat as we head home this friday night but we've seen trickier friday nights, too, rick and monica. as we look live at 95 men see of volume, no accidents just a whole lot of traffic in both directions by the betsy ross bridge. on the big picture you see

>> national weather service trying to determine if tornadoes touched down in texas today. damage was reported in some small towns near santonio. the winds were so strong a trailer ended up on top of the roof of a hotel and near austin folks are dealing with flash flooding. many had to evacuate their homes.

more than 10-inches of rain fell there in a two-hour span. >> federal investigators in south florida still trying to pin down the cause of yesterday's airplane fire. the commercial airline are burst into flames just before takeoff yesterday in fort lauderdale. the dynamic airways flight was headed to venezuela when the pilot in another jet spotted fuel leaking from the plane. all 11 passengers were able to escape but four remain in the hospital. the airline says the nearly 30-year-old plane is up to date with all of its maintenance requirements and even had a new engine. the university of louisville is in the headlines again tonight but this time it's because of controversial halloween costumes. a picture shows the university's president and staffers dressed in sombreros and thick mustaches at a party. the president sent out an apology to the school's latino community after the picture went public. the school's basketball team is currently under investigation over allegations of staffers hiring an escort service to provide sex for

>> students in new jersey got a lesson about the weather today from one of our "action news" experts. meteorologist chris sowers met with seventh graders. he talked to them about the upcoming winter season and showed them how he creates the forecast using weather models. >> what's not going to be hot is the temperatures as we go tonight into the first part of the weekend. then we start to bring them back up as we get into the first week of november. >> that's cool. >> as you look at double scan live radar around the region all is quiet. we had a little bit of cloud cover that passed through late in the morning early in the afternoon but overall the sky is clear at this point. in fact we will confirm that on drone6 which is flying high above fairmount park. you can see the boathouse row

there on the left, the schuylkill river and notice the glowing trees with the longer wave lengths of light as it's almost sunset at this point. and also in addition to that, we are peaking in the delaware valley this weekend with that fall foliage. absolutely breath taking view there. as we look at the almanac in philadelphia dark the high temperature was just 60 degrees. a couple degrees shy of the normal of 62. the low temperature 46 degrees and there it is, the sun setting in a few minutes from now at 6:01 and then by the time we get into sunday it will be setting before 5 o'clock. 57 allentown, 59 in trenton, upper 50's to the west, to the south and right along the shore anywhere between about 56 and 58 degrees. satellite will show we did see that eruption of some of the cloud cover briefly especially north and west of philadelphia today but overall they have pretty much dried up. they're still hanging on farther to the west because in this region, temperatures were only in the 40's today. you combine that with the late

october sunshine and it kind of bubbles up those clouds as that unstable air moves in with that colder air. tonight plenty of stars but you will notice a quick drop in temperature with that relaxing wind out of the northwest. 30 by tomorrow morning in the suburbs, to 40 degrees for center city. and future tracker by 10 o'clock tomorrow morning we are still only in the mid 40's even a few hours after sunrise and note that any cloud cover is way toot west in the morning hours but the clouds will quickly increase during dug the afternoon hours tomorrow at 4:30. we're only getting into the mid and upper 50's for your halloween so it will be a chilly one for trick-or-treating in the low 50's but at least it's going to be dry. in addition to the evening hours of saturday at the linc we got temple-notre dame, lots of clouds, a southerly wind three to 6 miles an hour. the kickoff temperature at 52 and by the fourth quarter it will be dipping into the upper 40's. in addition to that this week, we fall back on saturday night before you head to bed.

daylight saving time ends. also a good time to check the smoke detector batteries as well and again with that, the sun is going to set at 4:59 on sunday. sunday itself we're going have winds out of the southwest. we're going to start with clouds so it's opposite to saturday. saturday you start with sun, sunday you start with clouds with temperatures much milder in there 50's and by the afternoon on sunday the sunshine returns and much warmer in the mid to upper 60's. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, we get that jump up in temperature the second half of the weekend and then on monday, a new system arrives. philadelphia to the south has the best chance of seeing rain on monday of 66 degrees but after that departs, the sunshine takes control for the rest of the first week of november. tuesday, wednesday, thursday a stretch of indian summer with high temperatures way above average in the low to the mid 70's. overnight lows in the 50's so a great week ahead after a little bit of rain for some of
