take a look. this exclusive video shows the huge flames at broad street and girard avenue. >> and let's take a look at the scene after the flames were extinguished. chopper 6hd was there just before 3:00 this afternoon. as you can see the top of the cruiser is charred and the gas pump it was next to knocked over. >> let's get to christie auleto live. >> reporter: witnesses say a group of temple university police officers were filling up at this bp gas station when one of them drove off with the nozzle still in the tank knocking pump number 13 over and setting the cruiser on fire. these are the exclusive moments captured by an "action news" viewer after a temple university squad car goes up in flames at a gas station on girard and broad. >> i was at the other pump when it happened. >> reporter: derek tells "action news" he was standing 20 feet away.

>> another police officer got in his car and went to drive away and he still had his pump in his gas tank. the whole gas tank fell over. the brake didn't work i don't know what happened. after that the whole gas tank caught fire. >> reporter: police say the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes but forced those inside this mcdonald's next door to evacuate. >> scary 'cause this is next to the gas station. >> reporter: the temple university cop car was towed away and now police are investigating exactly how this happened. now, the gas station owner tells me it's unclear how much this damage will cost and for how long the pumps at the stations will be closed. however, the mcdonald's and the convenience store that are also in this parking lot are opened for business. reporting live in north philadelphia, christie auletto channel6 "action news." back to you. >> thank you for that report. philadelphia police are calling last week's deadly shooting in fairmount park an apparent crime of passion.

25-year-old shakoor arline and 32-year-old lisa smith both of philadelphia were found dead on friday. police say they were in a relationship with each other while carrying on other relationships as well. according to authorities the two were having a sexual encounter in the back of an suv when someone opened the rear door and then opened fire. both victims were shot in the head multiple times. "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is following this investigation and she'll have more details coming up at 6 o'clock. in delaware, police made an arrest in a murder that's gone unsolved since 1985. 50-year-old sandra hartzag now in custody in georgia accused of killing joseph braun in his wilmington home more than 30 years ago. police were tipped off to hartzag by relatives of her former boyfriend who was the prime suspect in the murder case until he died in 1997. she was found this week living in a trailer park and is now awaiting extradition to delaware. new castle county police say this is the first investigation solved by its newly created cold case unit.

>> after weeks of student protests and the football team's threatening to strike the president of the university of missouri has resigned. cheers rang out across campus after that announcement. protesters say president tim wolf failed to respond to racially charged incidents at the university but it came to ahead over the weekend when more than 30 african-american football players refused to take to the field for future games unless wolf stepped down. >> and i take full responsibility for this frustration and i take full responsibility for the inaction that has occurred. >> wolf's resignation is effective immediately. the football team will now resume all activities tomorrow. and there will be much more on this story coming up on world news tonight with david muir. that's at 6:30 after "action news" at 6:00. >> mystery surrounds a fire that damaged several homes in port richmond overnight. neighbors say this isn't the first time that fires have

plagued their community. "action news" reporter katherine scott talked to neighbors on memphis street today. >> i come outside and all i see is the fire. >> reporter: a loud noise woke up myra matos when she saw the flames on her port richmond block she got her family and started banging on her neighbor's for i started knocking on my next door neighbor's house. they were sleeping so i started banging and i asked for the phone to cull 911. >> i the time i came downstairs to get my son it was norred my house. >> it was matos' knocking that alerted them to the fire that broke out around 1:45 this morning on the 2900 block of memphis street. down the road residents were evacuated as other neighbors went door to door. >> my son heard the knock. we didn't. my son woke everybody up. >> reporter: "action news" viewer snapped photos as they ran from their home worried the fire would spread through the block. authorities say the blaze started in a vacant home. neighbors say there have been

multiple fires here in recent months. the colon family recently moved back in after three months of the last fire. >> we just came back a month ago and then it's this again. it's horrible. it's a bad feeling. i don't wish this on anybody. >> reporter: fire crews were back later this morning to wet down smoldering debris. people who live here are thankful for their neighbors who woke them up thankful no one was injured. >> the neighbors, the neighbors. couldn't do it without them. >> reporter: katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> firefighters in philadelphia also battled this blaze this morning in the brewerytown section of the city. chopper 6hd was over the scene. this is the 1500 block of north marsden street at about 7:00 this morning. no one in the home was hurt. the cause still under investigation tonight. >> a special committee has begun a series of hearings in harrisburg to discuss the fate of attorney general kathleen kane. senate panel is considering whether kane can still do her job without a valid law license.

it is suspended indefinitely as kane fights perjury and other charges for allegedly leaking secret grand jury material. well, today senators heard testimony from three district attorneys who said an active license is required for nearly every aspect of the official duties. the panel has been asked to issue a recommendation before thanksgiving. >> all right, time to talk about the eagles and eagles fans still basking in last night's overtime victory in dallas. the game ended just before midnight but today no one seems to be complaining. >> that's right. that's because the birds have back in the thick of things in the nfc east and today head coach chip kelly was full of praises for his players. >> sports director ducis rodgers joins us with more on the big win and the day after. little sleepy he today, aren't you. >> a little sleepy. >> it's all good. >> birds may be sleepy as well but they're feeling pretty good. chip kelly singled out sam bradford on jordan matthews for their performance last night. the birds back to points 500 but the victory comes with a huge loss. eagles announced rookie linebacker jordan hicks who has been their best linebacker

all season he is out for the season with a torn pectoral tendon. he made a huge play before he suffered that injury with the birds and cowboys tied at 14 he stepped in front of that pass and returned it 67 yards for the touchdown. that gave the eagles a seven-point lead. that lead though short lived. a few plays later matt castle running for his life just threw it up and dez bryant all 6-foot two of him sky high to make that catch. eventually went to overtime. bradford and matthews hooked up for a perfect play and the game winning touchdown. eagles won 33-27. after the game bradford recounterred the conversation he had with matthews in the huddle. >> i told him i got the call from chip and i came to the huddle and i said hey i'm coming to you. and sure enough he ran the route and the run after the catch was huge. >> i did my job. it's not like some irrelevant thing happened. i did what i was supposed to do dam i went out played hard made plays for my team. that's what they need from me

chester county southbound side approaching great valley. it's off to the side but still looking at speeds like 12 miles an hour approaching 29 to the work zone at 401. chester county a truck that overturned on the ramp from 100 southbound to the turnpike. that ramp is closed and we're hearing it may remain closed until 10:00 tonight. now you can get on the turnpike from the northbound side of 100 so you might have to keep going south and do the old flip-a-roo. while wind chill township on the new jersey turnpike southbound past exit two taking out a lane but speeds at the moment aren't too bad. by the malaga diner a crash along west boulevard near delsea drive inform wilmington another very slow afternoon in the northbound lanes of 495. 10 miles per hour because of that construction taking out a couple lanes by terminal avenue and we're getting set for an opening at the tacony palmyra bridge. if you're leaded out start heading for the betsy ross instead. we'll check it again rick and monica coming up in the next half hour. >> see you then. thanks matt. much more still to come on "action news" at 5:00 tonight.

>> a u.s. official says the death toll in a shooting at a regional police training center in jordan stands at five and could rise. jordanian officials say two americans are among the five confirmed dead. they were killed when a jordanian officer opened fire on foreign trainers today. a government spokesman says the officer was shot and killed by troops. authorities are investigating whether the attackers motive was personal or political. >> tonight's health check a new study released this afternoon could mean big changes in handling your blood pressure. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman is at the big board to explain the changes tonight. ali. >> reporter: yes, we talked about the early results of this study called the sprint trial in september. now, right now for people over the age of 50 the goal is to get the systolic blood pressure that upper number

under 140 but this new paper now recommends that the goal should be now under 120. now, in the test people with systolic blood pressure below 120 had significantly fewer heart attacks and strokes and fewer deaths overall than those aiming for 140 or below. now patients had to take three to four medications each to get their pressure down and there were more side effects including zero youse once such as loss of consciousness and kidney injuries but the doctors say overall its benefits out weighed the risk. lehigh county mother went to harrisburg today to push for more awareness of type one diabetes. debbie heal's drive began almost -- when she almost lost her 17-year-old son michael. she didn't know he had diabetes just there he looked very sick so she took him to the hospital. >> at that point it was determined that he had a blood glucose level of 600. a typical blood glucose level is between 80 and a hundred.

59 degrees. find your umbrellas. double scan live showing that we've got some rain on the way. you see it's not going to be missing us. we've got a pretty good patch of rain moving out of virginia. a lot of it is evaporating. the leading edge we have a lot of dry air at the surface. there's a coastal low and there's a piece of upper level energy. that will swung through in the e afternoon. tuesday will be a damp day with periods of rain. future tracker showing 11 o'clock tonight a lot of thick clouds with dry air at the surface. it's going to take awhile for the column of air to fully moisten for the rain to develop. it will move in after midnight and future tracker showing the morning commute is going to be a wet one especially south and east of philadelphia. this is where the heaviest rain will fall and then that second feature moving in across western pennsylvania and that will be moving in towards the evening commute. looks like the steadiest with that actually will be west of

philadelphia. so, this is what to expect the next 24 hours. the morning commute is going to be wet especially when you think of the leaves on the ground. it can slow things down. allow some extra imtoo. the steadiest and heaviest again will be southeast of the i-95 corridor. this will linger through the evening commute tomorrow and we're looking at a wide range in rainfall totals. anywhere from about a quarter inch to more than an inch of rain. really steadiest on where that coastal low sets up. speaking of the coast, we do have a new tropical storm, tropical storm kate currently it's in the ba bahamas with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles an hour. all the models take this out to sea between bermuda and the east coast of the u.s. so fortunately we will not have to be dealing with kate but hurricane season does run through the end of the month. so the five day at 5:00 tomorrow cloudy, breezy with periods of rain. a high of 63 degrees. so, it won't be all that cold. on wednesday veterans day, the sunshine gradually returns. it will be a mild day with a high of 65 degrees.

when black student groups complained when wolf did nothing to address increasing racial tension on campus. anger spread across the campus even the team football refused to play. elizabeth hur has the rest of that story. with tensions rising on campus university officials actually called for an emergency meeting today and it was at that meeting wolf made his resignation official explaining this is the right thing to do. wrapped up his press conference announcing that his team will get back to business and resume practice starting tomorrow. that is the very latest from here live in new york, i'm elizabeth hur for channel6 "action news." rick back to you. >> elizabeth thank you. in marks villa la two deputy marshals charged with killing a six-year-old boy were each held on $1 million bond this as family and friends of jeremy martus gathered for his funeral. norris greenhouse and derek stafford had a confrontation with the boy's father at his vehicle. then for an unknown reason the officers allegedly opened fire killing the little boy and seriously injuring his father t lawyers for mr. fuse say a police body camera shows he had his hands up and never posed a threat. >> president obama met one-on-one with israel's prime minister about the iran nuclear deal today. obama talked to the benjamin netanyahu in the oval office for the first time in a year. netanyahu is strongly opposed to that deal. neither man talked to reporters about that but they

did discuss a new security deal that could increase u.s. military assistance to israel. and abc has learned that the fbi has offered assistance to egypt and russia in that deadly crash of the airliner. investigators say the electronic intercepts of isis show that before and after the crash the terrorist group communicated with someone at the airport in egypt where that plane took off. they are now looking at surveillance video and employee records to try to identify that person and world news with david muir will have much more on the investigation into the metro jet crash. lat la officers accused in the murder of a young boy and the fallout from the university of missouri resignation. you can watch all that following "action news" at 6:00. >> turning to other news tonight with the fall in full swing a dangerous problem is popping up once again, deer darting out into traffic and into the path of cars. dozens of drivers have already had such encounters some of

them very dangerous. "action news" reporter david henry is live along the belmont plateau tonight in fairmount park with more on this story. david. >> reporter: yeah, rick, you know the deer population is flourishing in areas like fairmount park here so it's not just a suburban problem this time of year. city dwellers and suburban nights alike need to be ready to hit the brakes at any moment. business is you can ping up this time of year for wildlife conservation officers like jerry check. you probably noticed more dead deer on the side of the over the past few weeks. that's a because lover is in the air and deer are on the move and the bucks aren't worried about cars and trucks. >> they're chasing the dos around trying to mate and also the yearly buck are being dispersed so they need to find new territory. >> reporter: and that's why there are dozens of collisions between vehicles and deer every week in the philadelphia region. some have been deadly and there have been serious injuries. this was the scene in delaware city last night.

48-year-old jamie episcopo is in critical condition after she and her husband collided with a deer on route nine. now that the days are shorter it's dark during rush hour and that's when deer are most active, during the heaviest travel times of the day. the pennsylvania game commission is urging drivers to stay alert. if you see one deer, there's usually more. >> generally they'll be either chasing another deer or they'll be following several deer so you need to slow down and keep -- maybe put your flashers on and keep your eye out for another one. if you see one there's probably a few more. >> reporter: they're not just in the suburbs. there have been at least 20 near collisions in philadelphia over the past two weeks. >> there are plenty of deer inside the city of philadelphia with fairmount park's 9,000 acres of park lands dispersed throughout the city there are plenty of deer that motorists inside the city need to be wear of. >> reporter: now running season for deer usually peaks around mid-november so it will be a couple more weeks yet before they settle down and behave themselves.

live in fairmount park, david henry, channel6 "action news." rick. >> all right, david, thank you. still not clear what started a fire that injured three people and a firefighter in bucks county early this morning. this was the scene on 3-mile run road in east rockhill township. firefighters were forced to evacuate when the chimney collapsed and the rest of the roof caught fire. the three residents a firefighter were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. we have an update to a story about a missing fishing boat off the coast of new jersey. turns out that the vessel, the interlude was found this morning at its dock in somers point. the coast guard launched a search yesterday after someone placed a mayday call and said the boater was taking on water. officials say the skipper was able to get it back home without help. >> 'tis the season for pack cam catch thieves to target your purchases. philadelphia police are asking for help identifying one of those suspects in grays ferry. this surveillance video was taken in the 2600 block of dudley street on act 30. the suspect walks up, swipes

the package right from the front door and then walked away. if you have information about this man's identity you can contact police. authorities in moorestown, new jersey want folks to take a good look at the man and the car in these surveillance pictures. detectives say he broke into dan's dry cleaners in the 200 block of west camden of a early yesterday morning. the man allegedly used a brick to break the front door. he then cleaned out the cash register got in a car and drove off. if you have any information about this burglary you can also contact moorestown police at 856-91-4392. >> a change in policing strategy is paying off in norristown montgomery county. major crimes have plunged almost 20's percent under the new top cop's commands. mark talbot took over as norristown's police chief back in 2013. he came from reading berks county. he says norristown police are earning trust by pushing the message that arresting someone is the option of last resort. >> when the police are seen as legitimate i think more people

rolling. >> let's go to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. dark out there. kind of busy, too. >> you just mentioned being afloat. here's our ship floating down the delaware river southbound is where it's heading and we're watching the first cars roll across the tacony palmyra bridge into tacony following the bridge opening for that that southbound ship. returning to normal here but still a backlog on each side of the tacony palmyra. have a big backlog on 95 coming northbound out of the city through bridge street. but final that accident that's been out there all afternoon is cleared out of the way. in center city jammed solid in both directions on the vine street expressway. vine was scheduled to close again each night this week but now we're hearing it will not close tonight because of the rain that we're expecting so it will stay opened but right now it is congested. still have that overturned truck in chester county blocking the ramp from 100 southbound to the turnpike. get onto the turnpike via 100 northbound instead. emergency construction following an overturned truck in gloucester county still giving us delays on the southbound turnpike. south of 322. that's exit two. rick and monica, back over to you. >> thank you sir.

meteorologist adam joseph here now. today is his birthday. >> ♪ happy birthday. >> where is my gift now. >> i have a framed picture for you. >> of himself. >> signed with love, rick. >> put it on your dartboard. >> but happy birthday. >> it's been a great day. sunshine leading the clouds and we get some rain the day after. we're seeing a few showers trying to inch into southern areas not reaching the grounds near dover or cape may just yet but near baltimore and washington some light rain being reported. and it will be sometime before it actually reaches the grounds in our immediate viewing area. temperature-wise very typical for november 9th, 58 degrees in philadelphia, 57 in wilmington, 56 in millville and pretty similar right along the shore. you can see those winds draining in out of the north-northeast ahead of a low pressure center that is often of the carolinas. in fact not only do we have a surface low south of raleigh we have upper level energy near cincinnati. both of these will separate and stay apart as we get into

tuesday, so we'll get clipped by both of those tonight and tomorrow and then down to the south near the bahamas we have tropical storm kate. that will not be a player whatsoever. kate is going to be kicked out to sea and not affect the east coast over the next 24 to 48 hours. but future tracker will show the rain continues to be very sparse around philadelphia through the midnight hour. some light rain developing dover and millville, atlantic city as well as wildwood and first thing tomorrow morning for that rush hour it's going to be a little on the damp side so take extra time. the roadways will be slick. there's levers on the roads which can act as like black ice in the winter so you could slip and slide here but you could see the steadiest heaviest rain is south and east. there end that pushes away during the afternoon hours and there could be a temporary lull tomorrow afternoon and the intensity of the rain and then as that upper level low comes in tomorrow night, the rain could enhance once again especially north and west where that energy is as that passes by. so what to expect here throughout the day tomorrow? periods of rain, sometimes it

may be just drizzle, other times a steadier rain. a total of about a quarter to an inch. the heavier the rain would be closer to the storm near the coast with winds near around 30 miles an hour and as we give you one example here as to what models are saying as to how much rain, in atlantic city, the nam and the rpm showing well over 2-inches of rain while the gfs and the euro showing anywhere between a half inch and three-quarter center city because they are arguing how close the low is but we here think that it will be more like the euro and the gfs with the center of the low a little further off the coast. the rain totals won't be all that impressive. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, no matter what, it will be breezy and wet at times, tomorrow 63 and then for the veterans looking good, brighter, mild with temperatures above average at 65. still fairly mild thursday, another cold front comes through but much weaker than this next system. just a few scattered showers. and then we're dry here friday through the weekend and the beginning of next week.

>> it is monday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is breaking news from the new jersey turnpike in south jersey. one person has been killed and all lanes are now closed on the turnpike in woolwich township, gloucester county. this happened just a short time ago. about 25, 30 minutes ago. obviously a nasty accident. chopper six is over the scene. fire officials say they haven't transported anyone at this time which would suggest that the victim is still on the scene. as you can see emergency vehicles are dotting this landscape of the new jersey turnpike southbound in woolwich township. there is one fatality. details are now emerging. they are now evolveing into what sparked a fire at a north philadelphia gas station. this video was taken by an "action news"
