stolen car led the police on the chase. a car stop that went awry but in the end the police got their man. the big story on "action news," the police chasing a suspect through the streets of philadelphia. live in the 1900 block of pratt is our "action news" reporter and can you describe what happened there tonight? >> jim, police say the 34-year-old suspect tried to outrun the officers in a stolen car. he crashed right here, just steps from this house. police say the driver of this white audi led them on a chase before crashing on the 1900 block of pratt. the car was reported stolen four days earlier. the police say it all started when two officers spotted the stolen car. when they went to question the 34-year-old suspect the traffic stop took a violent turn. >> the driver of the police

vehicle approached the driver side. the passenger of the police vehicle approached the passenger side, and that's when the driver took off at a high rate of speed, striking the officer on the passenger side and dragging him several feet down the street. >> first coming down this way and he turned on jackson, and that's when he started going this way and zooming like 100 miles per hour. >> the suspect collided with this black s.u.v. before jumping the curb of this neighborhood street filled with children. >> when they crashed on the corner. >> and witnesses say the suspect took off on foot but captured by the police moments later. the injured officer has been taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. that suspect is facing an array of charges tonight including assault on an officer. reporting live in frankford for channel 6 "action news," jim? >> thank you. and more breaking news tonight, this one from west philadelphia where an ambulance and a car collided.

at least two people were injured and rushed to penn presbyterian hospital. one in critical condition. the scene of the crash is 51st and spruce. it happened at 8:30 tonight. the ambulance is from a private company not a philadelphia vehicle. and they are not saying if the ambulance was responding to an emergency or who had the right-of-way. a doctor from pennsylvania hospital is ok tonight after enduring a frightening ordeal today. the doctor was abducted as she went to her car early this morning. across the street from the hospital at 8th. and two men led her on an odyssey going to a.t.m.s and ending at a wawa where the clerk came to her aid and alleged abductors drove away in her car. they had her phone and that allowed the doctor's husband to track them.

both apprehended. the police in delaware say they arrested a man of carjacking a 71-year-old woman from a wawa. ordeal at 11:15 last night in new castle county. detectives allege that norris farlow pointed a gun at the victim in the wawa parking lot, got into her car with her, drove her around until ending up at another wawa on memorial drive where she gave him cash and got away. police say they also arrested farlow's alleged accomplice, 51 year old john johnson today. both held on multiple felony counts. and mourning a young man gunned down in a corner store. the vigil for 22-year-old maurice mcdonald was held outside of the grocery in the mantua section. he was murdered yesterday at

8:30 in the morning. other people were in the store, but they seemed to target mcdonald. it is official the next official police commissioner is number two, richard ross. and mayor-elect jim kenney formally announced today that ross is his choice. and ross said he and kenney will make a good team. >> we're just two regular guys you know, that's who we are. we're not ashamed to acknowledge that. from far ends of the city, but think very much alike. come from humble beginnings, and happen to have the opportunity to work along side him and his team in this city. >> and ross says he intends to expand the use of body cameras and limiting police stops to when there is a reasonable suspicion opposed to stop-and-frisk. and shots at a strip mall tonight in sharon hill at 6:45. two suspects shot a man who was

sitting in a car in front of the family dollar store. and investigators think they were trying to rob him. the victim is at the hospital and suspected to survive. the suspects are still out there. there is extra security tonight at the college in collegeville in the wake of the robbery overnight in a campus dorm. large at collegeville police is chad pradelli. what are officials saying? how are students reacting? >> it is a small campus and armed robberies are practically unheard of. one happened early this morning and i spoke with one every time victims. just before 3:00 a.m., two men, one armed with a gun and the other a hammer entered the dormitory suite and robbed several students.

carmin was asleep and one the armed men told him to be quiet. >> i was too shocked to look around. i wasn't going to do anything. >> what did they take? >> nothing from me. >> and friends say an xbox and other electronics were stolen. and he says he did not get a good look at the suspect, the room was pitch-black and the robbery only lasted a few minutes. >> it was shocking. still sinking in i guess. it was real quick and i didn't really realize what happened until after it happened. >> the victims contacted school security and police responded. and the students say they were alerted by an email about an hour after the robbery. fortunately none of the victims were injured. >> they just warned us about what went on yesterday and said keep your doors closed, keep your windows closed and everything. they are just trying to make us secure. >> i think everyone feels pretty safe. i think most feel it is

down the street shows the blast over the rooftops. one person was killed, 15 others rushed to the hospital with injuries, and one person still missing. stunned neighbors quickly rushed outside to help. >> and i thought it was an airplane crash, a bomb, i don't know. >> the crash leveled a two-family duplex and damaged several surrounding buildings. right now investigators are saying only that a gas episode played a role in the explosion. surveillance video captured the final fateful moments of a business jet that crashed into an ohio apartment building yesterday. tonight we have learned all nine people aboard were killed. seven passengers all from a florida real estate company. nobody was inside of the apartments in akron and no one on the ground hurt. surveillance video showed the veinvestigator that the plane ce in low and banked to the left.

and the -- it is not known what caused the crash. "healthcheck" at 11:00, more than 100 mean are suing a pharmaceutical company claiming incorrectly packages of birth control resulted in pregnancies. and they were flipped 180-degrees in the pack meaning they may have been taking placebos instead of contraception. and 115 women seeking millions of dollars in damages, some wanting to be paid for paying for the cost of raising a child. they say that they only know of a single case after defective pill pack sold to a patient. concern is brewing that the world's biggest beer merger
