bracing for another possible terror attack by the islamic state. here at home, extra security is in place for the philadelphia marathon. officials stress there is no known credible threat against the city, however. 7:00, sunday morning, trish hartman is on the parkway for the philadelphia marathon. chris sowers outside with the forecast for the marathon, the eagles game or whatever you have planned outside. let's start with trish, trish we understand things are a little behind schedule because of the extra security this morning. >> reporter: that's right, we're hearing there are long lines to get into this area. we're here at the start/finish line at the base of eakens oval. anyone who enters the secure zone has screened and searched. it is 7:00 a.m. right now, you can see the wheelchairs are lining up, now the wheelchair athletes and the hand cycles.

the elite are lined up behind them, behind them, a sea of thousands of runners who participate in this half and full marathon. runners head toward city hall. they run 6 miles in center city and then they run out on mlk anne kelly drive through manayunk. like we mentioned before, many have been wondering about security given the recent violence overseas. in a statement released last week, the race director said organizers received a number of questions from runners about the security measures after the terror attacks in paris. she said expensive plans were put in place after the boston marathon bombings in 2013. even more recautions are taken this weekend on top of that, they have not been talking about the details of those precautions just for security reasons. anyone have to be screened. officials are encouraging people not to bring bags, especially

spectators if they do, they will be searched. runners had to use clear bags for security reasons. we found many runners interesting the secure zone this morning are confident about the measures put in place. >> i trust the police force they will be out there to protect us. >> safety has been solid here, no worries at all. >> now those runners were there nice and early when there were no lines at the security. now we're hearing there are extensive lines at the security checkpoints to get into the start finish line. 30,000 runners are participating in the race between the rothman 8k and between the half and full marathon that we are waiting for them to get underway right now. the leaders of the full marathon will cross at 9:20. folks waiting in the security line this is a chip timed race,

so your race time will not start on the clock until you start -- cross the start line, your time won't be affected, but, of course, many runners are anxious to get in here and get started on the rails. we are waiting for the wheelchair race to start and the elite behind them and everybody else will starting point very soon. trish tresh channel 6 "action news." >> the -- trish hartman. >> the long security lines a sign of times. let's go outside to meteorologist chris sowers. >> reporter: when i came out here, five minutes ago, there was not much of a breeze at all. the front has pushed through. we'll see the temperatures cool off a little bit. the winds will increase over the next several hours out of the northwest 10 to 20 miles per hour. the numbers themselves are not that bad, 52 degrees in philadelphia, close to the normal high for this time of the

year. it's 7:00 a.m. that's nice and mild. with the winds it feels a little chilly. for folks watching the rails you'll need a light jackets and gloves early on. for folks running it, short sleeved shirts is all you'll need. 45 in allentown. 43 in reading. 50 for millville. these are sustained winds out of the west/northwest close to 15 miles per hour. some of the gusts are as high as 25 miles per hour. we'll continue to see the winds throughout the day. double scan live as the front is pushing through, a wave of low pressure is developing off the delmarva. that will pull north that means part of the area could see rain later this afternoon. here's what to expect today. northwestern suburbs it will be brisk and windy, you'll experience a combination of sun and clouds. for interior sections of south jersey that includes the city of philadelphia, expect mainly cloudy skies, breezy, peeks of sunshine. for the jersey shore it's going to be a cloudy day and windy

athletes were supposed to take off because of the tightened security. there was a crowd of people at the security checkpoint they are waiting for that to clear. the benjamin franklin parkway is closed for the marathon, there are other road closures along the route. you can hear the opening ceremony is getting underway. remember no cars allowed along the marathon route. trish hartman will be back at 7:30 a.m. with another live report. brussels belgium residents are in the second day day of threat leaves. the -- levels. subways are closed and officials are urging all sports competition and all large activities in public be canceled. that includes the closing of malice and other commercial centers.

new this morning, police say a man and woman were arguing 495 junction, during the disagreement, the woman jumped out of the car, she was hit by another car. she was pronounced dead at the hospital. 495 was closed during the investigation, but it has reopened. new word of a deadly accident a man hit a pole the driver was thrown from the car and killed. the driver tried to make a sudden turn at woodward street and lost control and hit a pole. part of the car careened into on coming traffic striking a second car. a third car in the southbound lanes was involved. the drivers of the other cars suffered minor injuries. the eagles play tampa this afternoon at the linc. the birds can end the day in a

the elite runners are next. >> the security line crosses 17 at the benjamin franklin parkway. all those people were still coming in, you couldn't get the race started. >> reporter: when they start running they will contend with a strong stiff wind. i was just outside, the wind was blowing so hard my eyes were tearing up. right now the action cam is live looking at the benjamin franklin parkway you can see the next set of runners getting ready to take off. some of them look chilly right now, but believe me as they get going they will be fine. temperatures in the 50s, the winds are starting to whip around out of the northwest at 15 to 25 miles per hour. makes you feel cooler than the 15-degree temperature would suggest. double scan live, we don't have any precipitation in the area, as you look toward the lower right-hand side of the screen we're starting to see shades of green develop.

you can see mayor michael nutter high fiving the racers as they go by. this is the philadelphia marathon, the second wave has taken off. there was a delay because of the long security lines. there was a long line of people crossing 17th street at the security checkpoint there. everybody was delayed by 15 minutes. you can see everyone looks excited to get going. the philadelphia marathon now underway. in chicago through the falling snow you can see the flames after a fire broke out halfway up one of the city's tallest sky scraper.

the blaze happened on the 50th floor of the hancock center. some people escaped by using the stairs, all 50 flights. several residents say alarms never went off. the blaze appears to have been accidental. the iconic hancock center was completed in 1970. the alter and pulpit used by pope francis have a new poem. they want to holy martyrs church in orland. >> the 6abc thanksgiving day parade is almost here. scouts are doing there part collecting donations. 6abc dunkin' donuts annual food drive will brighten the holidays for those in need.

>> reporter: welcome back everyone, we'll start you out with the travel forecast. the huge snowstorm is up in canada, the trailing cold front has hit the eastern seaboard. there will be wet weather from jacksonville to the carolinas an portions of south jersey. could see a little bit of rain. there's the front right there. it pushed through the western portions of the keystone state this morning. 33 in pittsburgh. same number for buffalo and binghamton. we're showing 52, but that number will drop as the day wears on. here's the cold stuff across the great lake states, 11 degrees in chicago. that's not driving south and east, it's pushing this way. it will be a quick shot warming up on the front range. by the time we get into tuesday and wednesday we'll see a nice warm up with high temperatures

blown the horn for another wave. they are making their way through the start-finish area at the base of eakens oval. the rails started at 7:15. there are thousands of runners making their way through. organizers say the delay was because of couple of things. there was heavy volume of security check points there was a big delay at the 18 theth street checkpoint. a lot of runners staying in the hotel were using that one. they are trying to reroute them to one of the five other security check points. when the race went off at 6:55. the wheelchair athletes kicked off the race to sweet caroline a tribute to the boston marathon. security is tight different the recent terror attacks in paris and other places yoafer -- overseas.

there. some of the gusts are 20 to 25 miles per hour. it's cleared philadelphia, but has not made it to south jersey just yet. that will be the focal point of a few showers later on. you can see the shades of green developing off the coast. showers already starting to work from south to north through cape may and eastern portions of atlantic county. that trend will continue over the next several hours. philadelphia will stay dry. all areas north and west will be dry, as well. 52 degrees will be the forecasted high, which will be two degrees below average at 54. we started out at 50 this morning. now all areas are starting to cool down with the passage of the front. 43 in reading, 40 in lancaster. allentown, 45. 30 for the poconos and 50 for south jersey and delaware. temperatures running anywhere from 8 to 20 degrees warmer than the same time yesterday. that will come to a screeching halt later this evening.

huge storm across the great lake states and northern portions of the ohio valley. that low is pushing to the north up into the southern prove -- prove -- provinces of canada. we have a small wave of low pressure developing along the front that will drift north as the front continues to slide through. we'll allow for wet weather along the shoreline. you'll get 20 miles inland you will not see anything at all. along the coast expect to see showers today. the surface maps looks like. frontal system comes through it will be breesy and we have the -- breezy, we have the possibility of higher gusts. the winds will relax a little bit tomorrow but it will be cold with high temperatures struggling to get up to 44 or 45 in the city. north and west you're not getting up to 44, 45 tomorrow. future tracker later today.
