tonight is the 3600 block of jasper street in the port richmond section of philadelphia. this was the scene late today of a deadly double shooting. two men were fatally shot in the head. "action news" reporter christie ileto is live at the scene. christie what do we know so far? >> reporter: well, jim police have spent the last three hours combing through this home where they say two men were shot inside. when medics arrived just after 3:00 both victims were pronounced dead and now family and friends struggle the make sense of the gun violence gripping their neighborhood. weeping fills the 3600 block of jasper street. police confirm two males were shot and killed inside this port richmond home and are now searching for whoever pulled the trigger. the identity of the victims nor their ages have been released but residents who didn't want their faces on camera tell "action news" they

had no idea the shooting had happened until a flood of cop cars swarmed their neighborhood block. >> the detectives came up and asked us if we flu who this other guy in the house was with the boy that got shot. there's two of them in there he said and we didn't know. we told him no, we didn't know. >> reporter: you didn't hear any gun shots whatsoever. >> nothing, nothing. nobody seen nothing or heard nothing. >> reporter: now, today's double shooting means that the city has now is you is your pase number of homicides from last year. >> a judge sentenced 18-year-old michael shelley to 11 and a half to 23 months in the bucks county jail. the former bucks county technical high school student was convicted of homicide by vehicle in the death of 16-year-old minete zeka last december. shelley drove around a stopped school bus there its stop line

out and lights flashing. the sentence includes five years probation. a woman from delaware county faces dui charges after a fiery head on crash on i-295 in west deptford. police say 26-year-old eileen dougherty of boothwyn was driving knorr northbound in driving northbound in the southbound lanes when she slammed into pickup truck. this happened around 4:30 this morning near exit 20. mark rohrbach managed to jump ouch his vehicle before it burst into flames. transportation security administration is adding a new dimension to its regiment to keep air travelers safe. it is now using dogs to sniff not just luggage but people as well. live at philadelphia international airport tonight, "action news" reporter john rawlins. john. >> reporter: well, jim, the airport has had bomb sniffing dogs here for years. they have been behind the scenes checking on baggage and cargo and there sort of thing. now it's philadelphia's turn

for something called psc, passenger screening canines. >> good girl, good girl. >> reporter: meet kina and alex. they are a team. kina is a lively short hairered pointer who can't wait to get up the steps to get to work with alex her t.s.a. handler. >> kina i think she's rambunctious. a lot of energy. >> reporter: as travelers file past kina has been trained to give a sniff for chemical vapors associated with explosive. if you should meet kina and alex andy or any other other teams assigned to the airport smile but don't pet. >> they may sniff around your feet your ankles but they won't be too enthused. we ask you keep on doing what you're doing. go through the line like you normally do. don't stop and try to play with the dog. >> reporter: a dog's nose is much more sensitive. they can pick up several expose sieve components. the t.s.a. uses a pizza shop comparison. >> when you walk in you would smell a pizza.

rawlins channel6 "action news. jim. >> thank you john. philadelphia mayor elect jim kenney reaffirmed his compliment to expanding community schools today. kenny along with city council president darrell clarke called on businesses nonprofit organizations and citizens to reinvest in public schools. just the two returned from a trip to cincinnati. that city has transformed all of its public schools into family service centers. it is a model that kenny and clark say they want to follow saying schools should be a place for basic healthcare and family support as well as education. >> ♪ this is new at 6:00 and frankly it is an extraordinary story. doctors at penn are preparing two people from our area for kidney transplant surgery but the match wouldn't have even happened if not for a misplaced ad. >> reporter: and jim the woman receiving the kid flee says she can't even put into words how grateful she feels. as for the donor he says the fact that that ad was misplaced felt like a sign. 32-year-old nina saria says she wasn't comfortable at first with her husband posting a craigslist ad to find her a kidney donor. >> i'm a very private person and i didn't like that idea to put out this story and i also didn't want people to feel bad for me. >> reporter: kay felt helpless. nina went into kidney failure more than a year ago due to an autoimmune illness. she needs dialysis three times a week. he figured a post on craigslist was worth a shot: somehow that post popped up when glen calderbank of west berlin new jersey was searching for construction supplies. >> out of nowhere just an ad said looking for a brave person and it just left it, i thought i was a brave person, i was wondering what they were

looking for. >> reporter: when he realized it was for a kidney, it hit home. his first wife jessica also had kidney failure. shea she waited for two years for a transplants. she received a kidney and pancreas from a cadaver but her body later rejected the organs. she died in 2011. >> he felt my pain and my -- my struggles. our struggles and our family struggle with the kid. >> i definitely think it was a sign. >> reporter: a sign to give the gift of life. glen is a match. surgery is scheduled for december 1st. >> it's more than a gift. it's being reborn again. >> reporter: and glen and nina hope their story will help others learn more about becoming a organ donor. we have more information about the gift of life on 6abc.com. reporting live in university city, ali gorman, channel6 "action news.

>> good news here. the miss america pageant will be seen here on channel6 through 2018. the new three year broadcast deal was announced today. the miss america pageant began in atlantic city in 1921 as a way to extend the summer tourist season for the week after labor day.

it moved to las vegas the patched did for six years before coming back to atlantic city in 2013. for the 11th year in a row families from an atlantic city school are the beneficiaries of some corporate generosity and the goodwill of the new jersey state police. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic has there story. >> reporter: instead of investigating card counters or a theft at one of atlantic city's casinos, these new jersey state police detectives from the casino gaming bureau spent the morning loading up thanksgiving baskets at the pennsylvania avenue school with donations from shop rite, td bank and other businesses, the goal is to put a whole turkey dinner on the table for at least 125 families at the school. >> troopers are cops working towns are always concerned about the citizens and this is the good way for us to get out and say, hey, we're here, we're here for more than just police work we care about what's going on. >> coming from the dominican republic i know what it's like to go through the holidays without a plate of food so

scan showing that we don't have any flurries out there. no rain out there and plenty of sunshine today. the action cam taking a look up and this really tell us the story. blue skies and sunshine but you see that flag, that flag is blowing in the wind and, yes, we had some wind chills today. so the accuweather highlights will show you that it's feeling a little bit like winter and tonight will be the coldest night so far this season. today, though, the high only 43 degrees. that's 10 degrees below normal the coldest day since early april and tonight with the clear skies, the winds diminishing a lot of good radiational cooling so that will allow temperatures to drop very quickly. overnight lows below freezing. philadelphia 30. the boardwalk in atlantic city 30. millville down to 20 allentown 23 and reading and lancaster 24 degrees so bundle up tonight but warmer air will be moving in as we head through the holiday week. currently philadelphia 40 degrees. allentown is already dropped down to 32.

trenton 35. millville 34. wilmington 34. and the poconos 27 degrees and you factor in the breeze, we have enough of a breeze that the wind chill feels like 19 in the poconos, feels like winter up there. feels like 29 in millville. 34 in philadelphia. and it feels like 30 in reading. so you definitely do want a winter coat if you're heading out. so satellite6 along with action radar showing here's that band that brought some of the lake effect snow flurries to the poconos to the northern lehigh valley and then as you look out to the west you can see some clouds rolling across western pennsylvania. even some flurries there. that's a weak upper level disturbance moving through early tomorrow. don't be surprised if you see some clouds early in the morning but then high pressure takes control and this high pressure will be my grating up tmigrating upto the north and e. that will keep things very quiet, very dry and it will also be gradually warming us up. tomorrow though the chill remains, the high only 49 degrees. that's 4 degrees below

average. mostly sunny skies with a few clouds again in the morning butter then as we head into wednesday this high pressure continues to work up to the northeast. that means temperatures up to where we should be for this time of the year, 53 degrees mostly sunny skies and this high pressure is very broad so we will be storm free on wednesday east of the rockies so great weather for traveling and that high pressure will bring us winds out of the southwest as we head through thanksgiving and black friday and that brings us a dramatic warmup. so the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, loads of sunshine tomorrow. still chilly, though, the high only forty nine degrees. that's 4 degrees below average. on wednesday if you're traveling no major problems, dry condition and seasonal conditions with a high of 53 degrees. last year the day before thanksgiving we had a coastal storm with rain and snow. thursday much warmer right in time for thanksgiving. the afternoon high 64 degrees and if you're heading to the parade you may want to actually take off some layers as you head through the morning. partly sunny. it warms up quickly at
