massive gunfight with one suspect already lying dead in the street identified as syed farouk. they moved in though see what was in the vehicle. the tension was almost unbearable, 14 people just murdered in another mass shooting. what they found in the back seat was suspect number who, also dead. it is wednesday night and the big story is the almost unfathomable tact there is another mass shooting in america, this time in the city of basan bernardino, california 60 miles east of los angeles. the police say there were three suspects. two of them dead, won a woman. and the lawmen detained a third person who is again a possible suspect. again, the big question now, was this an act are terrorism? the chaos at 2:00 p.m. our time

with word three people wearing masks opened fire inside of a building that houses programs for the developmentally disabled. it turns out that the gunmen invaded a holiday party for county officialings and in a rented hall. first responders found hundreds of panicked people in the building. with gunfire ringing in their ears they were herded out. they didn't know who was a victim and who was a gunman. 14 killed, 17 injured and three gunmen escaped. loved ones of survivors were relieved but terribly shaken as they awaited word. and this father shares a text from his daughter inside. >> shooting at my work, people shot. in the office waiting for cops. pray for us.

i am locked in an office -- >> san bernardino police, the f.b.i., the a.t.f., the county sheriffs and local police from miles around were focused on one mission, find the gunman. apparently they did. they tracked down the dark-colored s.u.v. and engaged in a massive gunbattle in the heart of a residential neighborhood. and it started with a lone officer who suffered a gunshot wound, but then within minutes they were hitting the with gunfire. and they had a second suspect dead in the vehicle and the authorities say that second suspect was a woman. the police continued their search for a third suspect. later tonight lawmen said in a news conference they obtained a third individual and they got a search warrant to search that pers

playing dead before an event like this. several survivors in the paris incident and south carolina say they were not shot because they were pretended to be dead. it is hard for the shooter remember, of course, if he or she shot a person. and acting dead may be a last resort. it is difficult, but you should watch the youtube video. and a history of violence in the united states involving mass shootings. abc news reporting there is at least 56 mass shootings so far this year, where at least three people have been killed. that is an average of more than one mass shooting a week. the f.b.i. has studied active shooter situations like today from 2000 to 2013 and found they are becoming more frequent as well. in that timeframe the f.b.i. identified 160 mass shootings, excluding crimes related to

gangs or drugs. 1,043 victims were injured or killed. we are joined by jack, who is senior fellow at the center for the study of terrorism and the former deputy assistant secretary in the department of homeland security. jack, there has been no indication of the motive of the gunmen or who they were. weeks after the terror attacks in paris, you know many americans are thinking isis, is it a reasonable possibility? >> i think it is reasonable and has to be examined care flly. and when i heard about this i was struck by the similarities. more than one shooter. movement in a place, movement out of the place, possibly to go to a second location, a second

the schuylkill expressway shutdown in both directions. chopper 6 live over the scene between montgomery drive and girard avenue. officials say that just 1:10 ago a truck traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lanes and hit another vehicle. two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. the expressway is a mess. the bodies of a new jersey mother and her 3-month-old baby have been found, both in cumberland county. 34-year-old neidy ramirez and her daughter, genesis, were recovered at a boat ramp in the rural part of fairfield township.
