but suspected. the word that fbi investigators have been reluctant to use until today. just about one hour ago at a news conference they made it plainly clear that what happened inside that building behind me on wednesday, was no random criminal act. it was in fact an act of terrorism. >> as of today based on the information and the facts as we know them, we are now investigating these horrific acts as an act of terrorism. >> reporter: those are the words from the fbi today as they officially take the lead on a now three day old investigation. that designation comes amid a flurry of new information that one or both of the shooters had pledged allegiance to isis. >> there is a number of pieces of evidence that has essentially pushed this off the cliff to say we are now investigating this as an act of terrorism. >> reporter: among that evidence facebook postings written by tashfeen malik vowing her support for isis leaders. those postings which were quickly deleted were put on facebook almost exactly as the attacks began.

also discovered by investigators two cell phones that they say had been crushed and put into a dumpster nearby the couple's home all of they say an effort to erase their digital foot printer. >> we have traced those cell phones. >> reporter: the fbi also said today that while it is possible that the couple met with terrorist leaders in person while in the middle east, they were at the very least in touch with others about their plans by phone and by e-mail. >> what i'm ready to confirm is there are some telephonic connections between these two individuals at least one of these individuals and other subjects of our investigation. >> reporter: now, in a separate news conference in washington, d.c. just minutes ago the director of the fbi said there is no evidence right now to suggest that farook and malik were part of a larger terror cell but yet investigators here and in washington are increasingly concerned that they had some

kind of help in particular in buying the guns. we know that two of those guns were bought by farook, two others were bought by someone else. today police say they know exactly who that person is and where they live but so far no other arrests here. of course stay tuned. for now, live in san bernadino, brian taff, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you brian. well, this tragedy has reignited the debate over guns in america. just like past tragedies measures to expand gun control in the wake of wednesday's shooting have failed in congress. a pew research poll over the summer shows that 85 percent of americans do favor expanded background check but yesterday a bill to do just that failed to advance in the senate. it was co-sponsored by pennsylvania senator pat toomey a republican and democrat joe mansion from west virginia. a separate bill that would stop anyone on the fbi's terror watch list from buying a gun failed by an even bigger margin. in the meantime gun sales

pilgrim will have more in a live report on "action news" at 5 o'clock. police are searching for the killer who murdered a man on thanksgiving morning. and they may lived the suspect to a second crime earlier that day. "action news" reporter trish hartman is live in port richmond at the scene of the deadly shooting with details on the investigation. trish. >> reporter: well, rick, it's been more than a week since police say 21-year-old ryan kelly was gunned down here in port richmond. now police are trying to see if this crime is linked to an armed robbery that happened earlier that morning because of a vehicle spotted at both scenes. a week after the thanksgiving day can killings in port richmond neighbors are still anxious for answers. it didn't take long to find people who knew the victim 21-year-old brian kelly several of whom said they heard a quick burst of gun shots in the 3500 block of almond street around 5:00 a.m. >> i heard the scream. that's got to be from the bar or another neighbor. i got up the next morning.

>> reporter: police say ryan was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. neighbors say he was walking home from a nearby convenience store and was shot less than a block from his house. a go fund me page has been set up to help the kelly family with funeral costs. in one week it has raised more than $11,000. austin there are no resays he's lived next door to the family for about 10 years. he says ryan was hard worker and always offered to help even shoveling his front walk when he started having health problems. >> always had a smile. i couldn't believe what happened. >> reporter: police say they don't have a motive and they aren't releasing the suspect description. detectives have recovered a white mazda six that left the scene that morning. they're now investigating whether the homicide is connected to an armed robbery that happened an hour earlier in the 4000 block of unruh street. the vehicle that was spotted at that scene a white mazda six. >> with all incidents like this we look at any other surrounding incidents that may have occurred in the area to see if there's anything that's

>> ♪ >> police have arrested a man and woman they say were impersonating police officers to rob people in south philadelphia. terrence jacobus and kelly rowan are charged in connection to two incidents on sunday. investigators say they flashed a badge a 21-year-old man on east passyunk avenue and ordered him to produce his i.d. when he complied they took cash from his wallet and drove off. less than two hours earlier they were also targeting a 23-year-old woman at fourth and jackson.

>> a second person died after a house explosion in north jersey. kamia henderson died from her injuries that she suffered during the blast back on november 11th. the explosion can killed a 24-year-old man and left a third person critical condition. elizabeth's mayor says an apartment behind the garage was getting electricity and gas service illegally. investigators are looking into the possibility that the gas line wasn't properly capped. >> pennsylvania lawmakers are back in harrisburg for the first time since thanksgiving as they get back to work on a deal trying to end the budget standoff. governor tom wolf has been working on a possible compromise with republican majority leadery leaders. they held a close door meeting today. the stalemate forced counties schools and social service agencies to borrow money even lay off workers even stop operating altogether. senators are expected to work through the weekend on a plan. >> the u.s. economy had another solid move hiring in

november. the labor department says employers added 211,000 jobs and retail was one of the sectors that led the way as stores added extra staff members for the holiday. the report also shows that more americans started looking for work in november and most of them found it. the unemployment rate held steady at 5 percent. the report makes it more likely that the federal reserve will raise interest rates this month. all right here's a look at the day's closing numbers on your friday. you can see how investors reacted to that jobs report. the dow is up 369 points and change. nasdaq also up 104 points, the s & p 500 up as well 42 and change for your friday afternoon. meanwhile fiat-chrysler is recalling more than 100,000 dodge darts. the company says the car can leak oil into a brake part that could affect the car's ability to stop. the problem has led to at least seven accidents and two injuries. the recall affects 2013 and 14 darts with two leader and two-point liter engines.

>> ♪ >> four cars collide in montgomery county this morning sending one person to the hospital and leaving a mess on the roadways. chopper6 was over the scene on the 2200 block of swamp pike in hanover township. that's where the crash happened about 8:45 this morning. police still have not said what caused it but they say five people were injured. that includes one victim who went to the hospital. police have not told us that person's name or how seriously they were injured. a police officer was hurt in south philadelphia this morning after someone slammed into the back of her cruiser. happened about 1:30 in the eastbound lanes of the schuylkill near the passyunk avenue exit. police say the officer went to the hospital with head and neck injuries. the action cam was there as officers took the driver who hit her into custody. they tested that person for dui but so far no word on whether they plan to file any charges. >> eight months of training

>> ♪ >> it is 4:30 and "action news" continues with major new developments out of san bernadino california. >> a short time ago the fbi confirmed wednesday's deadly shooting rampage is not a random act of workplace violence. they're investigating it as an act of terrorism. officials say the wife of syed farook tashfeen malik pledged her allegiance to isis on facebook just moments after the attacks began. investigators also discovered two cell phones that had been crushed and put in a dumpster near their home, an attempt to erase their digital footprint. the director of the fbi and attorney general acknowledged today the news of a terrorist plot on american soil is certainly unsettling. >> what we hope will you do is not let fear become disabling but try to channel it into an

awareness of your surroundings to get you to a place where you are living your life but if you see something that doesn't make sense you say something to somebody. >> he went on to say that authorities are still investigating the case trying to understand the motivation of the shooters and whether they were planning more attacks. let's turn now to brian taff live in san bernadino and brian, there was quite an unusual scene at the home of the suspects today. >> reporter: yeah, unusual is one word. surreal is another monica and that's a word that's been used by so many people to describe so much of what's played out here in san bernadino for the last 48, 72 hours. in facts it's the very word used by lieutenant mike madden last night the first police officer inside that massacre scene. he called it surreal. but it also applies to what happened today inside the apartment where farook and malik once lived before they died. take a look at this incredible video here today. dozens if not more than a hundred journalists inside

that apartment building just yesterday the fbi was combing that apartment for evidence. well, today apparently what happened is the landlord the man who owns that apartment took the boards off the door and allowed journalists to go inside. the fbi now says in hindsight that the scene was cleared that nothing inside was evidence but at the time the reporters who went inside weren't aware of that, did not know that. obviously highly questionable tactics employed by those dozens of reporters who went inside possibly compromising information. not to mention the fact that so much of what was in there was personal information about other people close to farook and malik, people who may have no connection at all to either this plot specifically or terrorism in general. so, quite a scene playing out there insides the red lands want just a couple miles from where i'm standing here today. let's come back out live. i want to show you the scene that's playing out behind me. it's just rather incredible

frankly. we've been watching so many activity in various parts of this city play out from a law enforcement perspective over the last couple days and yet this scene behind me the inland regional center where the massacre played out remains largely untouched frozen in time. all of those cars in the parking lot have been there since the massacre played out wednesday morning. their owners having run from the scene or having been taken away from that scene by police as they processed the scene. so, a moment frozen in time insides that building. we should also pointer out that investigators tell us that at this point all of the bodies, the 14 who died inside that inland regional center have all been removed from the scene now obviously their identities were made public yesterday but it did take some time to remove those bodies given that the apparently the sprinkler system had gone off and compromised that process, delayed it rather significantly. so, yes, guys, unusual is one word, surreal is another to

u-turns out the gun was actually a bb gun. two men were area rivered in connection to the scare. still not clear if they are facing any charges. the lockdown was lifted before 9:00 a.m. victims of child sexual abuse have a new place to turn for help. al state of the art medical facility opened today at the philadelphia safety collaborative in juniata park. the mission is to minimize the trauma for sexual abuse victims by providing an alternative place for follow-up visits and treatment instead of an extra trip to the hospital. the center will be staffed by children's hospital of philadelphia and saint christopher's. the doctors will be trained to provide court testimony on their evaluations. >> a montgomery county community is preparing to welcome a majestic parade to town next week the anheuser bush budweiser clydesdale horses will trot through west conshohocken. today leaders announced a number of road closures and designated parking areas to accommodate the crowds. all spectators are urged to bring at least one winter clothing item or a canned good

a friday night. matt pelman back in the "action news" traffic center with an upday. matt, hello again. >> hey, glad our commercials are a little bit lighter fare. good afternoon everybody. problems on the pennsylvania turnpike since last we spoke. an accident happened in the eastbound lanes approaching the willow grove interchange. that's the exit for 611. the crash is just letting the right lane by. so, as you can see coming east of fort washington you're looking at speeds that continue to drop now 14 miles per hour. you may want to stay local this afternoon instead of on the eastbound turnpike use roads like 63, county line or even bristol road. eastbound turnpike at a standstill coming away from for the tractor-trailer washington because of there crash near willow grove. this is 95 southbound side a little bit extra heavy from approaching academy down to bridge street but our crash there i mentioned during the last half hour is gone. so the lanes are opened. it's just plenty slow as you can see here in northeast philadelphia. this is a live look at the vine street expressway right by the schuylkill expressway. la brokehad a broken down vehicn

festive. >> ♪ >> reporter: that and it sounds like it i tell you. i've got these beautiful little snow queens i'm calling them lined me. take a look at their outfits and their hats definitely keeping them warm despite we don't have a chill in the atmosphere. this is the betsy daily dancers from berwyn pennsylvania and they range from ages from 1718 years old. they're dancing to let it snow. unfortunately no snow in that forecast. we'll talk to a couple of these dancers in a second but take a look at the numbers right now. it is beautiful. the last two years during this parade it was chilly, it was rainy but not tonight. in philadelphia right now our temperature coming in at 52 degrees. up in the lehigh valley it is in the upper 40's, 49 in trenton and in atlantic city your temperature coming in at 50 degrees. as we look at the satellite and radar, not much happening here in the midatlantic, the northeast or even in the deep south. large high pressure is over the ohio valley and you can see it is basically taking up
