the fbi on this one. >> reporter: indeed, jim. you know many here in san bernadino, california and across the country he have been calling this terrorism since became painfully apparent this attack was well orchestrated and precisely carried out. the fbi has maintained they have a specific set of criteria by which the word terrorism is used. tonight it appears that criteria has been met. >> there's a number of pieces of evidence that has pushed this off to cliff to say we are now investigating this as an act of terrorism. >> reporter: that official designation by the fbi comes other heels of two days of handling. federal investigators unwilling to call this mass can kerr an acts of terrorism despite the early confession it was clearly well planned. today 33 say the evidence leaves no doubt. >> what i'm ready to confirm is there are some telephonic connections between these two individuals at least one of these individuals and other subjects of our investigation.

>> reporter: those others possibly isis leaders. we learned today that tashfeen malik posted on facebook moments before the attack began pledging her allegiance to isis. it's possible investigators say there she and farook may have also met those leaders in person during recent travel to saudia arabia and pakistan. two cell phones have been crushed and discarded in a nearby dumpster. >> we have retained those cell phones and we do continue to exploit the data from those cell phones. >> reporter: that apartment was also a chaotic scene today. reporters from around the world scrambling to get inside broadcasting images of a seemingly normal life. the fbi says it had cleared the scene. meanwhile the fbi's main concern today how this couple flew under the radar. neither the subject of any investigation or focus by intelligence. at a separate news conference a short time later in washington the director of the fbi and the u.s. attorney general urged the public not to panic.

>> what we hope will you do is not let fear become disabling. but to instead try to channel night an awareness of your surrounding. >> reporter: now, to that end the fbi did say today that in the vast majority of these cases the public that sees something says something and that is what disrupts these plots very often, very clearly in this case nothing was said to any authority beforehand. that begs the question who knew what. and even though the fbi has said tonight that the evidence does not suggest a larger cell or larger network at this point, they have not ruled out more arrests including the man who they say they know bought at least two of the guns there farook and malik used inside that building behind me wednesday morning to carry out this deadly rampage, 14 dead, jim, 21 remaining injured and several of them still tonight in critical condition. we are live in san bernadino, california, brian taff, channel6 "action news."

warrington. eva, what are the details here? >> reporter: well, jim, that bucks county math teacher is behind bars tonight accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student that started some time this summer. the penn ridge school district where he works says it is fully cooperating with authorities. penn ridge north middle schoolteacher joe becker walked silently into the magistrate office. hours earlier he was teaching math in a classroom. >> teachers are entrusted with the responsibility, a very important responsibl responsibif teaching young children. this defendant abused his position and violated that trust when he engaged in the conduct he did with one of his students. >> reporter: becker is facing charges for having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student that started in july and ended just last month. the 30-year-old teacher is accused of asking for and receiving pictures and videos

from the student behavior that he admitted to detectives according to court documents. detectives moved quickly on this case after the student's parents came to police. >> we had information that he was asking the victim while this was under investigation to lie to her parents and to destroy some of the evidence. >> reporter: in court today, he apologized and said he was a good person. >> we'd like to spare the victims from having to testify so any incriminating statements that a defendant might give can be helpful to the commonwealth. >> reporter: the judge set bail at $250,000. becker walked quietly out of court today: any comment at all? he had no comment. now, investigators are concerned that there could be other victims because becker taught at two other high schools in this area. they're asking any other victims to contact bucks county detectives. becker is due back in court on december 14th.

in warrington bucks township -- bucks county, eva pilgrim channel6 "action news. jim. >> eva thank you. a 30-year-old man from norway has been charged with calling in bomb threats to philadelphia international airport. police say that svein johannsen made two calls to 911 yesterday afternoon. police say it was all a hoax. a search turned up nothing dangerous. authorities say johansen apparently missed his flight and was trying to catch a rescheduled flight by slowing everything up at the airport. johansen is charged with making felony terroristic threats. philadelphia police think a killer who murdered a plan on thanksgiving morning may have links to a second crime earlier in the day. at 5:00 a.m., 21-year-old ryan kelly was gunned down in the 3500 block of almond street in port richmond. >> i heard the scream. it's got to be from the bar or another neighbor. got up the next morning it wasn't. >> reporter: police say ryan was shot in the chest and

pronounced dead at the hospital. detectives have recovered a white mazda six that left the scene that morning. they're investigating whether the homicide is connected to an armed robbery that happened an hour earlier where al white mazda six was spotted. police are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. eight months of training have paid off for 55 police recruits. members of class 373 marched into mcgonigle hall at temple university this morning for their police academy graduation. they were sworn in after they pledged to uphold their duties. the class includes recruits from the philadelphia police department, the philadelphia housing authority and the falls township police department. new at 6:00 tonight members of a delaware county family who recently fell on hard times got quite a surprise today. all thanks to the generosity of their community. rick williams has that story.

>> you hear about these things butter you never think it's going to come home. >> reporter: eleanor garrett is talking about her recent bout of bad luck. she and her daughter jennifer who suffers from a serious health condition found themselves behind on rent and unable to pay mounting medical bills. just this week they were evicted from their home and with noplace to go, they were forced to live on the street. >> it was very cold and it was very wet. >> reporter: ridley officer corporal jason mcdevitt saw the family camped outside this ray more and flanagan yesterday. >> she just looked to be hungry and thirsty. >> reporter: in normal circumstances this would have been a routine stop. but the ladies touched his heart so he decided to help. >> i went to wawa also got them a couple drinks, couple sandwiches, something to eat for the rest of the day. some hot soups 'cause they were definitely cold. >> reporter: but the story of a good deed doesn't end there. in this case it turned out to be one that will show just how far a community will go to reach out to those who need it most. a passerby saw corporal

is. >> he knows he messed up. and so we are going to help him through this. we're with him. we're going to help him through this but right now he's probably in a personal bad spot. kind of as he should be. >> most high school football teams in our area are done for the year. tomorrow night at rowan university the williamstown football team will play one more game a game that means more than the steatite tell at stake. here's jeff skversky. >> reporter: every time the williamstown football team takes the field, they honor darius boyar. their former starting center drowned in july right before his senior year. boyar was just 17 years old. >> i got the news saying that he passed away. i didn't want to believe it at first. couldn't believe it. i broke down. >> reporter: at boyar's funeral the williamstown football team made a promise also a they stood over his casket get to the steatite tell game for boyar.
